In this paper, we propose a novel approach predicting the fluctuation of stock index by finding a relation in various stock indexes that are represented by linear combinations. The important points are to select stock indexes related to predicting indexes and to find the proper relations in them. Since it is unattainable to use entire stock indexes relation, we used only data that are closely associated with each other. We used Genetic Algorithm(GA) to find the most suitable stock-index relation. We simulated the investment in years from 2005 to 2007 with each real index. Finally we verified that the investment money increased 230 percents by the proposed method.

In order to improve the performance of a chirp based transmission scheme, the cross-coherence property should be carefully considered. In this paper, we propose two pairs of combinations using multiple linear chirp (MLC) which can reduce the cross-coherence for improving IEEE 802.15.4a chirp spread spectrum systems. The simulation results show that the proposed MLC scheme can improve the performance by considering the cross-coherence.

The present work investigates the use of a rigid rocking block as a tool to reduce vibrations in a frame structure. The study is based on a simplified model composed by a 2-DOF linear system, meant to represent a general M-DOF frame structure, coupled with a rocking rigid block through a linear visco-elastic device, which connects only the lower part of the 2-DOF system. The possibility to restrain the block directly to the ground, by means of a second visco-elastic device, is investigated as well. The dynamic response of the model under an harmonic base excitation is then analysed in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the coupling in reducing the displacements and the drift of the 2-DOF system. The nonlinear equations of motion of the coupled assemblage 2-DOF-block are obtained by a Lagrangian approach and then numerically integrated considering some reference mechanical and geometrical quantities as variable parameters. It follows an extensive parametric analysis, whose results are summarized through behaviour maps, which portray the ratio between the maximum displacements and drifts of the system, with and without the coupling with the rigid block, for several combinations of system's parameters. When the ratio of the displacements is less than unity, the coupling is considered effective. Results show that the presence of the rocking rigid block improves the dynamics of the system in large ranges of the characterizing parameters.

Water pipeline network in local and metropolitan area is buried underground, by which it is hard to know the degree of pipe aging and leakage. In this study, assuming various sensor combinations installed in the water pipeline network, the optimal algorithm was derived by predicting the water flow rate and pressure through artificial intelligence algorithms such as linear regression and neuro fuzzy analysis to examine the possibility of detecting pipe leakage according to the data combination. In the case of leakage detection through water supply pressure prediction, Neuro fuzzy algorithm was superior to linear regression analysis. In case of leakage detection through water supply flow prediction, flow rate prediction using neuro fuzzy algorithm should be considered first. If flow meter for prediction don't exists, linear regression algorithm should be considered instead for pressure estimation.

Building structures generally have inherent low damping capability and hence are vulnerable to seismic excitations. Control devices therefore play a useful role in providing safety to building structures subject to seismic events. In recent years semi-active dampers have gained considerable attention as structural control devices in the building construction industry. Magneto-rheological (MR) damper, a type of semi-active damper has proven to be effective in seismic mitigation of building structures. MR dampers contain a controllable MR fluid whose rheological properties vary rapidly with the applied magnetic field. Although some research has been carried out on the use of MR dampers in building structures, optimal design of MR damper and combined use of MR and passive dampers for real scale buildings has hardly been investigated. This paper investigates the use of MR dampers and incorporating MR-passive damper combinations in building structures in order to achieve acceptable levels of seismic performance. In order to do so, it first develops the MR damper model by integrating control algorithms commonly used in MR damper modelling. The developed MR damper is then integrated in to the seismically excited structure as a time domain function. Linear and nonlinear structure models are evaluated in real time scenarios. Analyses are conducted to investigate the influence of location and number of devices on the seismic performance of the building structure. The findings of this paper provide information towards the design and construction of earthquake safe buildings with optimally employed MR dampers and MR-passive damper combinations.

This paper provides performance evaluations of various channel estimation schemes for Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) 3.0 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system under a fixed reception environment. ATSC 3.0 MIMO system can obtain high spectral efficiency and improved reception performance compared to conventional terrestrial broadcasting systems. The ATSC 3.0 MIMO defines Walsh-Hadamard and null pilot encoding algorithms and the amplitude and phase of MIMO pilots are different from those of single-input single-output pilots. At the receiver, linear and discrete Fourier transform (DFT)-based interpolations can be used for the channel estimation. This paper provides the various combinations of the interpolation schemes for channel estimation in time and frequency dimensions, and then analyzes the performance of the various combinations through the computer simulation. The results of computer simulation show that the combination of the linear interpolation in the time dimension and then DFT-based interpolation in the frequency dimension can obtain the best performance among the considered combinations.
The non-linear behaviour of integral infilled frames (in which the infill and the frame are bonded together with help of various interface materials) is studied both experimentally and numerically. The experiments were carried out on one-sixth scale two-bay and three-storey reinforced concrete frames with and without infill against static cyclic loading. Three interface materials - cement mortar, cork and foam have been used in between the infill and the frame. The infill, interface and the frame are bonded together is called integral frame. The linear and non-linear behaviors of two dimensional bare frame and integral infilled frame have been studied numerically using the commercial finite element software SAP 2000. Linear finite element analysis has been carried out to quantify the effect of various interface materials on the infilled frames with various combinations of 21 cases and the results compared. The modified configuration that used all three interface materials offered better resistance above others. Therefore, the experiments were limited to this modified infilled frame case configuration, in addition to conventional (A1-integral infilled frame with cement mortar as interface) and bare frame (A0-No infill). The results have been compared with the numerical results done initially. It is found that stiffness of bare frame increased by infilling and the strength of modified frame increased by 20% compare to bare frame. The ductility ratio of modified infilled frame was 42% more than that of the conventional infilled frame. In general, the numerical result was found to be in good agreement with experimental results for initial crack load, ultimate load and deformed pattern of infill.

CAD systems offer a variety of techniques for designing and rendering models of static 3D objects and even of mechanisms, but relatively few tools exist for interactively specifying arbitrary movements of rigid bodies through space. Such tools are essential, not only for artistic animation, but also, for planning and demonstrating assembly and disassembly procedure of manufactured products. A rigid body motion is a continuous mapping from the time domain to a set of positions. To relieve the designers from the burden of specifying this mapping in abstract mathematical terms, combinations of simple rigid motion primitives, such as linear translations or constant axis rotations, are often used. These simple motions are planar and thus ill-suited for approximating arbitrary motions in 3D-space. Instead, we propose the screw motion primitive, a special combination of linear translations and constant axis rotations, which has a simple geometric representation that can be automatically and unambiguously computed from the starting and ending positions of the moving body. Although, any two positions may be interpolated by an infinity of motions, we chose the screw motion for its relative generality and its computational advantages. The paper covers original algorithms for computing the screw motions from interpolated positions and envelopes of swept regions to predict collisions.

To solve the rule explosion problem in multi input fuzzy logic system, a method of converting a given fuzzy system to 2 layered hierarchical fuzzy system is presented where the collection of the THEN-parts of the fuzzy rules of given fuzzy system is considered as vectors of fuzzy rule. At the 1 st layer, linearly independent fuzzy rule vectors generated from the given fuzzy logic system are used and, at the 2nd layer, linear combinations of these independent fuzzy rule vectors are used for fuzzy logic units at each layer. The resultant 2 layered hierarchical fuzzy system has not only equivalent approximation capability, but less number of fuzzy rules compared with the conventional fuzzy logic system.

This paper is concerned with the use of a selforganizing map (SOM) to estimate the desired channel states of an unknown digital communication channel for blind equalization. The modification of SOM is accomplished by using the Bayesian likelihood fitness function and the relation between the desired channel states and channel output states. At the end of each clustering epoch, a set of estimated clusters for an unknown channel is chosen as a set of pre-defined desired channel states, and used to extract the channel output states. Next, all of the possible desired channel states are constructed by considering the combinations of extracted channel output states, and a set of the desired states characterized by the maximal value of the Bayesian fitness is subsequently selected for the next SOM clustering epoch. This modification of SOM makes it possible to search the optimal desired channel states of an unknown channel. In simulations, binary signals are generated at random with Gaussian noise, and both linear and nonlinear channels are evaluated. The performance of the proposed method is compared with those of the "conventional" SOM and an existing hybrid genetic algorithm. Relatively high accuracy and fast search speed have been achieved by using the proposed method.
