  • In this paper, we develop the matching priors and the reference priors for linear combination of the means under the normal populations with equal variances. We prove that the matching priors are actually the second order matching priors and reveal that the second order matching priors match alternative coverage probabilities up to the second order (Mukerjee and Reid, 1999) and also, are HPD matching priors. It turns out that among all of the reference priors, one-at-a-time reference prior satisfies a second order matching criterion. Our simulation study indicates that one-at-a-time reference prior performs better than the other reference priors in terms of matching the target coverage probabilities in a frequentist sense. We compute Bayesian credible intervals for linear combination of the means based on the reference priors.

  • Existing studies have suggested Universal Curve only for supplemental damping by damper. Therefore net damping has been determined by means of arithmetic summation between intrinsic, aero-damping of cable and supplemental damping of damper. However linear combination approach by means of the arithmetic summation is not enough theoretical background. So validity of this approach should be verified in order to design adequate cable-damper system by engineers. This study establishes governing differential equation which can consider intrinsic, aero-damping and supplemental damping as well. And also analysis method is solved by combination of muller method and successive iteration method. Consequently, this study succeeds in verification for validity of linear combination approach. As a result of this study, linear combination approach is limitedly effective in case of low stiffness and optimum damping coefficient of damper, short distance from support to damper, lower vibration mode, low aero-damping, and normal windy environment. Whereas this study will be effective in case of opposite conditions, and existing studies or linear combination approach occur to further error. Meaning of this study presents exact solution for net damping of cable-damper system, and verifies linear combination approach by means of the analysis method. In the future, if monitoring of optimum damping coefficient of a damper against aero-damping is feasible on time, algorithm of this study will be available for control of cable and semi-active damper system such as magneto-rheological damper.

  • In this paper, we design neurofuzzy networks architecture by means of linear fuzzy inference. The proposed neurofuzzy networks are equivalent to linear fuzzy rules, and the structure of these networks is composed of two main substructures, namely premise part and consequence part. The premise part of neurofuzzy networks use fuzzy space partitioning in terms of all variables for considering correlation between input variables. The consequence part is networks constituted as first-order linear form. The consequence part of neurofuzzy networks in general structure(for instance ANFIS networks) consists of nodes with a function that is a linear combination of input variables. But that of the proposed neurofuzzy networks consists of not nodes but networks that are constructed by connection weight and itself correspond to a linear combination of input variables functionally. The connection weights in consequence part are learned by back-propagation algorithm. For the evaluation of proposed neurofuzzy networks. The experimental results include a well-known NASA dataset concerning software cost estimation.

  • Fisher's discriminant method has been applied to the problem of the classification of Korean potsherds, using their elemental composition as analyzed by neutron activation analysis. A combination of analytical data by means of statistical linear discriminant analysis has resulted in removal of redundant variables, optimal linear combination of meaningful variables and formulation of classification rules.

  • Back-propagation neural network (BPNN) is the most prevalently used paradigm in modeling semiconductor manufacturing processes, which as a neuron activation function typically employs a bipolar or unipolar sigmoid function in either hidden and output layers. In this study, applicability of another linear function as a neuron activation function is investigated. The linear function was operated in combination with other sigmoid functions. Comparison revealed that a particular combination, the bipolar sigmoid function in hidden layer and the linear function in output layer, is found to be the best combination that yields the highest prediction accuracy. For BPNN with this combination, predictive performance once again optimized by incrementally adjusting the gradients respective to each function. A total of 121 combinations of gradients were examined and out of them one optimal set was determined. Predictive performance of the corresponding model were compared to non-optimized, revealing that optimized models are more accurate over non-optimized counterparts by an improvement of more than 30%. This demonstrates that the proposed gradient-optimized teaming for BPNN with a linear function in output layer is an effective means to construct plasma models. The plasma modeled is a hemispherical inductively coupled plasma, which was characterized by a 24 full factorial design. To validate models, another eight experiments were conducted. process variables that were varied in the design include source polver, pressure, position of chuck holder and chroline flow rate. Plasma attributes measured using Langmuir probe are electron density, electron temperature, and plasma potential.

  • Students taking linear model courses have difficulty in determining which parametric functions are estimable when the design matrix of a linear model is rank deficient. In this note a special form of estimable functions is presented with a linear combination of some orthogonal estimable functions. Here, the orthogonality means the least squares estimators of the estimable functions are uncorrelated and have the same variance. The number of the orthogonal estimable functions composing the special form is equal to the rank of the design matrix. The orthogonal estimable functions can be easily obtained through the singular value decomposition of the design matrix.

  • Some pattern recognition methods have been used to characterize Korean ancient porcelainsherds using their elemental composition as analyzed by instrumental neutron activation analysis. A combination of analytical data by means of statistical linear discriminant analysis(SLDA) has resulted in removal of redundant variables, optimal linear combination of meaningful variables and formulation of classification rules. The plot in the first-to-second discriminant scores has shown that the three distinct territorial regions exist among porcelainsherds of Kyungki, Chunbuk-Chungnam, and Chunnam, with respective efficiencies of 20/30, 22/27 and 14/15. Similar regions have been found to exist among punchong porcelain and ceradonsherds of Kyungki, Chungnam and Chunbuk, with respective efficiencies of 7/9, 15/16 and 6/6. Classification has been further attempted by statistical isolinear multiple component analysis(SIMCA), using the sample set selected appropriately through SLDA as training set. For this purpose, all analytical data have been used. An agreement has generally been found between two methods, i.e., SLDA and SIMCA.

  • It is known that human disease and the economic traits of livestock are significantly affected by a gene combination effect rather than a single gene effect. Existing methods to study this gene combination effect have disadvantages such as heavy computing, cost and time; therefore, to overcome those drawbacks, the SNPHarvester was developed to find the main gene combinations. In this paper, we looked for gene combinations using an adjusted linear regression model. This research finds that superior gene combinations which are related to the quality of the Korean beef cattle among sets of SNPs using SNPHarvester. We also identify the superior genotypes using a decision tree that can enhance the various qualities of Korean beef among selected a SNP combination.

  • This article deals with the sensor-less control of a DC Motor via a SEPIC Converter-Full Bridge combination powered through solar panels. We simultaneously regulate, both, the output voltage of the SEPIC-converter to a value larger than the solar panel output voltage, and the shaft angular velocity, in any of the turning senses, so that it tracks a pre-specified constant reference. The main result of our proposed control scheme is an efficient linear controller obtained via Lyapunov. This controller is based on measurements of the converter currents and voltages, and the DC motor armature current. The control law is derived using an exact stabilization error dynamics model, from which a static linear passive feedback control law is derived. All values of the constant references are parameterized in terms of the equilibrium point of the multivariable system: the SEPIC converter desired output voltage, the solar panel output voltage at its Maximun Power Point (MPP), and the DC motor desired constant angular velocity. The switched control realization of the designed average continuous feedback control law is accomplished by means of a, discrete-valued, Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). Experimental results are presented demonstrating the viability of our proposal.

  • In the present work, the ratcheting behavior under uniaxial cyclic loading is analyzed. A comparison between the published and the results from the present model is also included. In order to simulate the ratcheting behavior, Two-Back Stress model is proposed by combining the non-linear Armstrong-Frederick rule and the non-linear Phillips hardening rule based on kinematic hardening equation. It is shown that some ratcheting behaviors can be obtained by adjusting the control material parameters and various evolutions of the kinematic hardening parameter can be obtained by means of simple combination of hardening rules using simple rule of mixtures. The ultimate back stress is also derived for the present combined kinematic hardening models.
