  • Line transect sampling in a sighting survey is one of most widely used methods for assessing animal abundance. This study applied distance data, collected from three sighting surveys using line transects for finless porpoise that were conducted in 2004 and 2005 off the west coast of Korea, to four models (hazard-rate, uniform, half-normal and exponential) that can use a variety of detection functions, g (x). The hazard-rate model, a derived model for the detection function, should have a shoulder condition chosen using the AIC (Akaike Information Criterion), as the most suitable model. However, it did not describe a shoulder shape for the value of g(x) near the track tine and underestimated g (x), just as the exponential model did. The hazard-rate model showed a bias toward overestimating the densities of finless porpoises with a higher coefficient of variation (CV) than the other models did. The uniform model underestimated the densities of finless porpoise but had the lowest CV. The half-normal model described a detection function with a shape similar to that of the uniform model. The half-normal model was robust for finless porpoise data and should be able to avoid density underestimation. The estimated abundance of finless porpoise was 3,602 individuals (95% CI=1,251-10,371) inshore in 2005 and 33,045 individuals (95% CI=24,274-44,985) offshore in 2004.

A building roof detection method using snake model in high resolution satellite imagery

  • Many building detection methods mainly rely on line segments extracted from aerial or satellite imagery. Building detection methods based on line segments, however, are difficult to succeed in high resolution satellite imagery such as IKONOS imagery, for most buildings in IKONOS imagery have small size of roofs with low contrast between roof and background. In this paper, we propose an efficient method to extract line segments and group them at the same time. First, edge preserving filtering is applied to the imagery to remove the noise. Second, we segment the imagery by watershed method, which collects the pixels with similar intensities to obtain homogeneous region. The boundaries of homogeneous region are not completely coincident with roof boundaries due to low contrast in the vicinity of the roof boundaries. Finally, to resolve this problem, we set up snake model with segmented region boundaries as initial snake's positions. We used a greedy algorithm to fit a snake to roof boundary. Experimental results show our method can obtain more .correct roof boundary with small size and low contrast from IKONOS imagery. PDP ITO 패턴유리의 결함 검사시스템 개발 (Development of Defect Inspection System for PDP ITO Patterned Glass)

  • The formation degree of sustain (ITO pattern) decides quality of PDP (Plasma Display Panel). For this reason, it makes efforts in searching defects more than 30 un as 100%. Now, the existing inspection is dependent upon naked eye or microscope in off-line PDP manufacturing process. In this study developed prototype inspection system of PDP 170 glass is based on line-scan mechanism. Developed system creates information that detects and sorts kinds of defect automatically. Designed inspection technology adopts multi-vision method by slip-beam formation for the minimum of inspection time and detection algorithm is embodied in detection ability of developed system. Designed algorithm had to make good use of kernel matrix that draws up an approach to geometry. A characteristic of defects, as pin hole, substance, protrusion, are extracted from blob analysis method. Defects, as open, short, spots and et al, are distinguished by line type inspection algorithm. In experiment, we could have ensured ability of inspection that can be detected with reliability of up to 95% in about 60 seconds.

확률적인 소실점 추정 기법에 기반한 강인한 송전선 검출 방법 (A Robust Power Transmission Lines Detection Method Based on Probabilistic Estimation of Vanishing Point)

  • We present a robust power transmission lines detection method based on vanishing point estimation. Vanishing point estimation can be helpful to detect power transmission lines because parallel lines converge on the vanishing point in a projected 2D image. However, it is not easy to estimate the vanishing point correctly in an image with complex background. Thus, we first propose a vanishing point estimation method on power transmission lines by using a probabilistic voting procedure based on intersection points of line segments. In images obtained by our system, power transmission lines are located in a fan-shaped area centered on this estimated vanishing point, and therefore we select the line segments that converge to the estimated vanishing point as candidate line segments for power transmission lines only in this fan-shaped area. Finally, we detect the power transmission lines from these candidate line segments. Experimental results show that the proposed method is robust to noise and efficient to detect power transmission lines.

Baseline-free damage detection method for beam structures based on an actual influence line

  • The detection of structural damage without a priori information on the healthy state is challenging. In order to address the issue, the study presents a baseline-free approach to detect damage in beam structures based on an actual influence line. In particular, a multi-segment function-fitting calculation is developed to extract the actual deflection influence line (DIL) of a damaged beam from bridge responses due to a passing vehicle. An intact basis function based on the measurement position is introduced. The damage index is defined as the difference between the actual DIL and a constructed function related to the intact basis, and the damage location is indicated based on the local peak value of the damage index curve. The damage basis function is formulated by using the detected damage location. Based on the intact and damage basis functions, damage severity is quantified by fitting the actual DIL using the least-square calculation. Both numerical and experimental examples are provided to investigate the feasibility of the proposed method. The results indicate that the present baseline-free approach is effective in detecting the damage of beam structures.

A Dissimilarity with Dice-Jaro-Winkler Test Case Prioritization Approach for Model-Based Testing in Software Product Line

  • The effectiveness of testing in Model-based Testing (MBT) for Software Product Line (SPL) can be achieved by considering fault detection in test case. The lack of fault consideration caused test case in test suite to be listed randomly. Test Case Prioritization (TCP) is one of regression techniques that is adaptively capable to detect faults as early as possible by reordering test cases based on fault detection rate. However, there is a lack of studies that measured faults in MBT for SPL. This paper proposes a Test Case Prioritization (TCP) approach based on dissimilarity and string based distance called Last Minimal for Local Maximal Distance (LM-LMD) with Dice-Jaro-Winkler Dissimilarity. LM-LMD with Dice-Jaro-Winkler Dissimilarity adopts Local Maximum Distance as the prioritization algorithm and Dice-Jaro-Winkler similarity measure to evaluate distance among test cases. This work is based on the test case generated from statechart in Software Product Line (SPL) domain context. Our results are promising as LM-LMD with Dice-Jaro-Winkler Dissimilarity outperformed the original Local Maximum Distance, Global Maximum Distance and Enhanced All-yes Configuration algorithm in terms of Average Fault Detection Rate (APFD) and average prioritization time.

애자의 소음 분석을 통한 애자 고장 탐지 가능성 연구 (A Study on Possibility of Detection of Insulators' Faults by Analyses of Radiation Noises from Insulators)

  • 애자는 송전선 시스템에서 전기적으로나 기계적으로 매우 중요한 소자이다. 송전선 시스템에 설치된 이후 애자의 열화 등에 의해 고장이 난 애자를 찾아내기 위해 애자로 부터의 방사 소음을 측정하여 분석하였다. 대상으로 한 제품은 2종류의 현수 애자, COS, 2종류의 Line Poster, 피뢰기이며, 이들 제품의 정상 상태와 고장 상태의 방사 소음을 각각 측정하여 시간 파형, 주파수 스펙트럼, 피크 검출의 결과를 서로 비교하여 그 차이점을 제시하였다. 또한, 이를 바탕으로 방사 소음으로부터 고장 상태의 애자의 검출의 가능성 및 그 방법을 제시하였다.

  • In milling process, monitoring and diagosis system is very importent to accomplish factory automation. In this study, to drvelope on-line tool breakage detection system in face milling operation, analysis and experiment were performed. The tool breakage detection experiment was performed in machining center and the effectiveness of the detection tool breakage detection alorithm and the usage of feed drive current as a detection signal were verified.

3D Building Detection and Reconstruction from Aerial Images Using Perceptual Organization and Fast Graph Search

  • This paper presents a new method for building detection and reconstruction from aerial images. In our approach, we extract useful building location information from the generated disparity map to segment the interested objects and consequently reduce unnecessary line segments extracted in the low level feature extraction step. Hypothesis selection is carried out by using an undirected graph, in which close cycles represent complete rooftops hypotheses. We test the proposed method with the synthetic images generated from Avenches dataset of Ascona aerial images. The experiment result shows that the extracted 3D line segments of the reconstructed buildings have an average error of 1.69m and our method can be efficiently used for the task of building detection and reconstruction from aerial images.
