  • Electroluminescence(EL) from conjugated polymers has recently received great attention because polymer light-emitting diodes(LEDs) clealy have potential for applications such as large-area displays. The operation of polymer LEDs is based on double injection of electrons and holes from the elextrodes, followed by formation of excitons whose radiative decay results in light emission at wavelength characteristic to the material. In this paper, we fabricated the single layer EL device using $Alq_3$ as emitting material. According as turn on voltage could know about 5.5V in voltage-current characteristics and voltage rise, current could see that increase as non-linear. Current and ruminance can see that express similar relativity in voltage, and could know that ruminance is expressing current relativity.

  • The GaN thin film on the 8 periods InGaN/GaN multi-quantum well structure was grown on the sapphire substrate using metal-organic chemical vapor deposition. The nano-scaled triangular-lattice holes with the diameter of 150 nm were patterned on a polymethylmethacrylate blocking film using an electron beam nano-lithography system. The thin slab and two-dimensional photonic crystals with the thickness of 28 nm were fabricated on the GaN layer for the blue light diffraction sources. The photonic crystal with the lattice parameter of 460 nm enhances spectral intensity of photoluminescence indicating that the photonic crystals provides the source of nano-diffraction for the blue light of the 450-nm wavelength.

  • Photoelectrochemical solar cells such as dye-sensitized cells (DSSCs), which exhibit high performance and are cost-effective, provide an alternative to conventional p-n junction photovoltaic devices. However, the efficiency of such cells plateaus at 11~12%, in contrast to their theoretical value of 33%. The majority of research has focused on improving energy conversion efficiency of DSSC by controlling nanostructure and exploiting new materials in photoelectrode consisting of semiconducting oxide nanoparticles and a transparent conducting oxide electrode (TCO). In this presentation, we introduce monodisperesed TiO2 nanoparticles prepared by forced hydrolysis method and their superiority as photoelectrode materials was characterized with aids of optical and electrochemical analysis. Inverse opal-based scattering layers containing highly crystalline anatase nanoparticles are also introduced and their feasibility for use as bi-functional light scattering layer is discussed in terms of optical reflectance and charge generation properties as a function of optical wavelength.

  • We have constructed an interferometric microscopy using a Michelson interferometer and a He-Ne laser. The three dimensional image was obtained by the interference from the reflected signal by a sample surface and from the reflected signal by a mirror. The axial resolution obtained by Michelson interferometric microscopy is as good as that of the white-light interferometer, but the same fringe is obtained when optical path difference is half-wavelength. The image from Michelson interferometric microscopy was compared with the images from the various types of confocal microscopy.

  • WDM is an incredibly promising technique in which multiple channels are operated along a single fiber, providing the facilities of terabit per second bandwidth. Thus, the survivability of WDM networks becomes critical for the success of the next generation internet architecture. Despite the fact that the path-based proactive restoration scheme guarantees 100% restoration as it computes a backup light path while the primary light path is being set up, this method results in additional capacity consumption. In this paper, an ideal technique is proposed that modifies the active multi-backup paths method and results in a better restoration scheme. Based on a theoretical analysis, a new method is shown to reduce the number of hopes as well as the restoration time.

  • The scattered light intensity from a spherical particle passing through the cross-over region of two coherent laser beams, varies periodically. Photodetection of this light beams produces a periodic signal of varying amplitude. The phase of the signal varies with the particle size and refractive index, the beam crossing angle and wavelength, and the position and size of the scattered ligth collecting aperture. In this paper the phase variation with respect to the particle absorptive index of retraction, collecting lens size and beam crossing angle is calculated using both Mie scattering theory and reflection theory. The two theories show good agreement in phase predictions, especially for large absorptive indices and for small collection lenses. Both theories predict phase to be inversely proportional to the beam crossing angle.

  • The authors investigated the InGaN/GaN multi-quantum well blue light emitting diodes with the implements of the photonic crystals fabricated at the top surface of p-GaN layer or the bottom interface of n-GaN layer. The top photonic crystals result in the lattice-dependent photoluminescence spectra for the blue light emitting diodes, which have a wavelength of 450nm. However, the bottom photonic crystal shows a big shift of the photoluminescence peak from 444 nm to 504 nm and played as a role of quality enhancement for the crystal growth of GaN thin film. The micro-Raman spectroscopy shows the improved epitaxial quality of GaN thin film.

  • In the Orient, most references are made on the visual perception of the eye having the blue iris, even in the case where the reference should be made on the perception by the eye having the dark iris. In order to clarify the difference in the visual perceptions of a monochromatic light, an objective boundary wavelength between hues incident on the dark eyes was obtained and the correlation between the valuesalready reported as having been obtained with the blue eyes was examined. A significant difference was found in the subjective boundary wavelengths of hues depending on the difference in the visual sensitivity distribution on the dark and blue eyes.

  • A novel near infrared(NIR) absorbing dyes were synthesized by using bis-aldehyde formyl aromatic compounds and heteroaryl derivatives with the reactive methylene group. These dyes provided a range of the NIR wavelength region about 720 nm value. Also, the light absorbing properties of these dyes were investigated in our experiment results. In generally, these NIR colorants may be potential used for optical recording media, DNA sequencing probe and laser beam printings.

  • A gap surface plasmon resonator have received considerable attention because it can dramatically enhance the absorption of the electromagnetic field. However, whereas most of studies were just focused on the absorption within a narrow range of wavelength, few studies have been performed for the broadband absorption in the visible range. Therefore, in this study, we discuss methods that can induce broadband light absorption using gap plasmon resonance in visible regime. The gap plasmon resonator will offer great potential for appplications to solar cells and bioimaging.
