The objective of this paper is to propose a classification of Korean taste terms, especially Korean taste adjectives, from the perspective of cognitive science. The classification of Korean taste terms is here grounded in the definition of 'taste sense', 'flavor' and 'taste' which is usually employed in disciplines of cognitive science. There have been a large number of domestic researches in field of taste terms. Accordingly, a lot of research findings on the classification of taste terms have steadily been released showing the differences among researchers. These different classifications are largely based on the fact that researchers have applied their subjective criteria rather than their objective in order to categorize taste terms. According to previous studies, it is well-known that, in everyday usage, the term 'taste' covers a much wider range of qualities than those perceived through the taste receptor cells alone. In addition, we take it for granted that as much as 80~90% of taste comes from olfactory modality. It is also important to note that the texture and temperature of food, the color of food, the sounds of food, and atmospheric cues have an essential effect on taste perception. Many scientists have already pointed out that taste evaluations are influenced by a number of individual and sociocultural factors. Eating and tasting are important parts of our everyday life, so that linguistic approaches to taste perception seem to be of great significance. We can assume that a classification of taste terms from the perspective of cognitive sciences may shed light on the perceptive mechanism through which we perceive taste. It should be noted that this paper is an advanced work prepared for the follow-up study which will try to make a geometric model of word field 'taste terms' existing or probably existing in the mental lexicon of human beings.

Pre-storage ultra-violet (UV) light treatment on fresh produce is known to inactivate the contaminated microorganisms, activate the defense system, and delay ripening extending the shelf life. As UV light emitting diode (LED) becomes available at a relatively low price, continuous or intermittent UV treatment during chilled storage is possible in a container or package. This study attempted an in situ UV LED treatment on fresh produce stored under a refrigerated container in order to see its potential in the fresh produce storage and further optimize its application conditions. The effect of in-container UV LED irradiation on the quality preservation of shredded carrots was investigated in the air and modified atmosphere (MA) conditions. Two sets of experiment with Escherichia coli inoculation and with natural microbial flora in the air (two 30 minute on-off cycles of 1 $diode/dm^2$ per day at a location above 2 cm) showed a clear and significant effect of the UV LED irradiation on the suppression of microbial growth: 280 nm was the most effective by maintaining a lower microbial count by at least 0.5 log (CFU/g) throughout the 6 day storage period. The carotenoids content of shredded carrots subjected to UV LED treatment at 365 and 405 nm in the air was higher than that of the control shredded carrots. In MA condition of $O_2$ of 1.2~4.3% and $CO_2$ of 8.4~10.6% being indifferent with LED wavelengths, 280 nm UV LED irradiation was also effective in inhibiting the microbial growth. While there was no observed difference in the carotenoids content between untreated and UV LED-treated shredded carrots in MA, UV LED irradiation at 365 and 405 nm was slightly better in DPPH radical scavenging activity. The use of UV LED in storage container or package seems to give the benefits of preserving the microbial and nutritional qualities of minimally processed fruits and vegetables.
This study was conducted to obtain the fundamental data for the processing of carrot juices and know the effects of blanching conditions, acid and alkali treatments and sterilization on the quality factors of carrot juices. The result obtained was as follows. 1. Blanching condition, $100^{\circ}C$, 5min. was the most effective for the Brix, amino-N content, suspended solid, light transmittance and yield of carrot juices among $90^{\circ}C$, 15min., $95^{\circ}C$, 10 min., and $100^{\circ}C$, 5min. 2. 0.05N-acetic acid solution was the most effective blanching solution for the suspended solid, light transmittance, viscosity and yield of the juices compared to 0.05N-citric acid and 0.03N-hydrochloric acid solution. 3. The color changes during the processing of carrot juices caused by blanching process rather than sterilization process. 4. The ${\beta}$-carotene in carrot juices was very stable and about 80 % of it was remained in the carrot juice which had been blanched, extracted and sterilized at $115^{\circ}C$ for 30min. 5. Alkali treatment for the juice from acid - blanched carrots formed discoloration after sterilization. 6. Relative content (%) of sugars in raw carrot juice we re ribose, 8.51%; fructose. 10.15%; glucose, 12.25%; sucrose, 49.53% and oligosaccharide, 19.56%. When the carrots were blanched in boiling water, the contents of monosaccharide and disaccharide decreased slightly but that of oligosaccharide increased slightly, however, when the carrots were blanched in acid solution, and then neutralized and sterilized, relative contents of ribose and sucrose decreased remarkably but that of oligosaccharide increased considerably and those of glucose and fructose increased slightly. 7. Nineteen sorts of free amino acid were detected from the carrot juices and the mains of them were threonine+asparagine, alanine, serine+glutamine, aspartic acid, arginine, and glutamic acid.
A land resources survey in the semi-arid area, Mula in S. E. Spain, of $400km^2$ is compiled. The basic aim of the project is to investigate the intrinsic qualities of the land resources of the area by means of applying an integrated method of natural resources survey mainly concerning with analysis and synthesis of land complexes, each of them represents an area or a group of areas with similar patterns of landforms, soils and vegetation, based on a geomorphological approach. The area is characterized by a linear arrangement of relief pattern with an asymmetric homoclinal repetition of slope attitudes elongating WSW-ENE, dipping steeply on the NW sides and gently on the SE sides, which have been resulted from the post-Alpine folding of the Triassic to Cretaceous limestone, the Eocene limestone, the Oligocene sandstone and the lower Miocene limestone and marl, and the post-lower Miocene faulting, tilting and subsequent differential erosion of the Miocene sedimentary formations. An integrated body of information in geology, landforms, soils and vegetation, which are significantry interrelated as an environmental complex, has been obtained. Using this data, 26 land complexes developing on the various situations of landforms, such as folded mountain ranges, tilted tablelands, bevelled cuestas, degraded hill-lands associating with enormous foots lopes, undulating terrains and terraced or flat plains, have been differentiated, mapped and described. The soils of the area are mostly light colored calcic lithosols which have been derived dominantly from the marly parent materials and developed into remarkable slope catenas in some places depending on the relief conditions. The land uses of the area are mainly characterized by the perennially irrigated cultivation of citrus orchards along the terraced alluvial deposits fringing the Segura and Mula River, and the dry-land cereal cultivation on gentler slopes. Pioneer dry-land cultivations within the shrubs on steeper slopes are restricted to the unchannelled tributary drainage floors. The availability of water is a fundamental controlling factor for existence of native and cultivated vegetation as a whole, and a number of active processes including sheet wash and gully erosion, especially on the scarp slopes, are the other important factors to be considered in conservation and management of the land in the area.

This study was carried out to clarify the effect of CHO-CO and PO film on air temperature in greenhouse and Korean melon fruit characteristics and yield. On January 8 in 2017, the maximum, minimum and average air temperature in greenhouse covered with CHO-CO film were $38.9^{\circ}C$, $13.4^{\circ}C$ and $20.1^{\circ}C$, respectively. At the same date, the maximum, minimum and average air temperature in greenhouse covered with PO film were $40.0^{\circ}C$, $14.9^{\circ}C$ and $20.3^{\circ}C$, respectively. On August 7 in 2017, the maximum, minimum and average air temperature in greenhouse covered with CHO-CO film were $47.2^{\circ}C$, $23.1^{\circ}C$ and $32.4^{\circ}C$, respectively, and the maximum, minimum and average air temperature in greenhouse covered with PO film were $50.3^{\circ}C$, $23.6^{\circ}C$ and $34.0^{\circ}C$, respectively. The results of investigation of qualities and yields of Korean melons from May 26 to August 15 in 2017 were as follows. The fruit weight of Korean melon harvested in CHO-CO film's greenhouse was 371.6g which was 22.2g less than that of PO film greenhouse. The sugar contents of Korean melon harvested in CHO-CO film greenhouse was $14.5^{\circ}brix$ which was $1.4^{\circ}brix$ greater than that of the fruits harvested in PO film greenhouse. The chromaticity (a-value) of fruit skin of Korean melon harvested in CHO-CO film greenhouse was 12.3 which was 1.5 greater than that of the fruits harvested in PO film greenhouse. The marketable yield rate of Korean melon harvested in CHO-CO film's greenhouse was 89.4% which was 8.0% higher than the fruits harvested in PO film greenhouse. The yield of Korean melon harvested in CHO-CO film's greenhouse was 2694kg per 10 a which was 26% more than that harvested in PO film greenhouse. In conclusion, the CHO-CO film could be effective to produce Korean melon in high temperature season.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of Dulegil in Bukhansan National Park in dispersing peak climbing hikers, characterize each section of Dulegil and suggest ideas of improvement. This study was conducted based on the survey completed by visitors in all 21 sections of Dulegil. After the construction of Dulegil, the number of visit to Dulegil grew and it was analyzed that Dulegil attracted new visitors given that the rate of young people(aged 19~30) who visited for the first time was quite high. Regarding the frequency of peak climbing, 7.6% of the respondents said "decreased" and 46.2% said "increased", showing that Dulegil's effect to disperse peak climbing hikers is nominal. Seven qualities were evaluated regarding Dulegil's level of satisfaction. Out of those seven, the quality of recreational place and taking a walk achieved high scores of 3.74 and 3.61 respectively. The quality of culture and history scored the lowest with 3.09. The analysis on the characteristic of each section of Dulegil, reason of visit, and the visitors' level of satisfaction showed that Dulegil is now regarded as a place where they can improve their health through light exercise and walking. In addition, a positive effect can be expected for a long time since there are different ways of utilizing the resources of the National Park, such as getting in touch with nature, preserving ecology, learning history and enjoying beautiful landscapes. If infrastructure and programs specific to each section of Dulegil were improved in a long-term perspective, it would be effective to encourage peak climbers and enjoy the lower parts of the mountain.
This study was carried out to investigate the export rate of suspended sediment by different precipitation intensity after forest road construction for torrential streams on three different watersheds with various forest road density(Watershed A : 6.67m/ha, Watershed B : 5.52m/ha, and Watershed C : control) in the Experimental Forest of Kangwon National University. The results were as follows. 1. Closely related to the the amount of rainfall in both 1994 and 1995, the average streanfkiw rate was less than $0.25{\times}10^4m^3/day$ during May and June and $5.0{\times}10^4m^3/day$ during July and August. More than $25{\times}10^4m^3/day$ of streanflow rate was occurred twice in 1994 and seven times in 1995. 2. The amount of suspended sediment in three watersheds was less than standard of drinking water(25mg/l) before road construction with daily rainfall of 74mm, 92mm, and 120mm in 1994, also after road construction with daily rainfall of 21mm and 47mm in 1995. But, under the 192mm of daily rainfall, Watershed C did not show the difference in the amount of suspended sediment, however, Watershed A and B produced 1,525mg/l and 775mg/l, respectively, which is 61 and 31 fold of stabdard of drinking water, and construction to export for 35 hours after rainfall. 3. The maximum amount of suspended sediment was less than the standard of drinking water with light rainfall before and after road construction. Under the 192mm of daily rainfall, the maximum amounts of suspended sediment in Watershed A and B were 13,150mg/l and 2,690mg/l, of 526 and 108 fold of standard of drinking water, respectively, showing obvious water pollution by sedimentation. Results of the study indicated that the forest road construction had great influence on the sedimentation, and getting increased by higher road density and heavier rainfall. Therefore such practices as vegetation covering and soil erosion control facility should be established accompanying with forest road construction to prevent from sedimentation.
The temperature fluctuations was investigated in cold distribution chain of radish sprout, typical of commercial practice. Although the temperature of distribution chain was maintained below 5$^{\circ}C$ in precooling and packaging steps, and 10$^{\circ}C$ in transporting, temperature of loading step increased up to 18$^{\circ}C$ at market. Based on this investigation, the simulated cold distribution conditions were consisted of precooling and packaging step; 5$^{\circ}C$ for 12 hours and transporting and loading steps; 5$^{\circ}C$, 10$^{\circ}C$, 20$^{\circ}C$ and $^{\circ}C$ for 6 hours, and storage and market steps; 5$^{\circ}C$ and 10$^{\circ}C$ for 17 days. The radish sprouts were cultivated at 25$^{\circ}C$ and dark condition for S days and placed in light condition for greening. They were packaged by 25 ${\mu}m$ ceramic film after precooling for 6 hours in 5$^{\circ}C$. The fresh weight loss and visual quality of radish sprout decreased with the increase of the temperature in transporting and loading steps. The carbon dioxide content of packages increased, but the oxygen content decreased rapidly in 1day after storage, as the temperature of transporting and loading steps increased. The ethylene content in packages increased fastest in higher temperature of transporting and loading steps treatment, and showed highest in 5$^{\circ}C$-30$^{\circ}C$-10$^{\circ}C$ treatment (temperature of precooling and packaging steps for 12 hours - temperature of transporting and loading steps for 6 hours - temperature of storage step for 14 days) followed by 5$^{\circ}C$-20$^{\circ}C$-10$^{\circ}C$ treatment. The high temperature of transporting and loading steps resulted in deterioration qualities and atmosphere conditions in packages of sprout. These results suggested that the temperature fluctuation in distribution should influence the shelf-life of radish sprouts, even thought the periods of fluctuation was just 6 hours.
One of central issues in the Literature and Science discourses during the Victorian era is the relation of physiology to psychology. Many thinkers tackle the question of whether or not psychic phenomena can be reducible to their physiological bases. For instance, Victorian physiologist William Benjamin Carpenter claims that there should be a boundary between physiological and psychological qualities. Yet, his contemporary writer Grant Allen contends for the reduction of psychology into physiology. In the essay, I discuss Grant Allen's work Physiological Aesthetics (1877) so as to eventually problematize his physiological reductionism. I especially highlight the paradox of his physiological aesthetics. In order to clarify my argument, I introduce two concepts: evolutionary aesthetics and physiological reductionism. On the one hand, Allen argues for the development of aesthetic appreciation. The gradual evolution from gaudy to serene colors, for instance, reflects the fine differentiation of sensory organs. He believes that the existence of varied aesthetic pleasures corresponds to the evolution of sensory nerve structures. Nonetheless, Allen ironically gives more weight to the commonality of aesthetic experiences than to this teleological ordering of aesthetic experiences. He argues that there is no fundamental difference among humans in terms of their aesthetic assessments. Furthermore, there is even no essential distinction among plants, animals, and humans in light of their aesthetic appraisals, he states firmly. Although he asserts the gradual advance of aesthetic feelings caused by the intricacy of nervous systems, he simultaneously trivializes the evolution of aesthetic appraisal. In the essay, I highlight this paradox in Allen's physiological aesthetics. It should be underscored, lamentably enough, that Allen seeks biological purity by erasing fine lines among physiology, psychology, and sociality. He estranges aesthetic experiences from subjective variations and their socio-cultural contexts. He makes great efforts to eliminate individual differences and socio-cultural specificities in order to extremely biologize aesthetic experiences. Hence, Allen's physiological aesthetics is marked as the politics of physiological purification.
