This study was conducted to find characteristics of photosynthesis for dwarf and street tree cultivars of Hibiscus syriacus L. Characteristics of growth and flowering on some cultivars were investigated. The photosynthetic capacity for the cultivars was also measured. Bulsae showed the best height increase; Soyang represented the lowest growth. Baektanshim ${\times}$ Kyungbuk1 had the largest number of branches and leaves. Sundeok and Bulsae were the best in terms of height and width of flower, Soyang showed the smallest flowers. According to the analysis of chlorophyll content (chlorophyll a, b, total) for the cultivars, there was little difference between Sundeok and Bulsae. Based on light response curves for cultivars, it was found that Baektanshim ${\times}$ Kyungbuk1 and Soyang had lower light compensation and light saturation points than Bulsae and Sundeok. Cultivars Baektanshim ${\times}$ Kyungbuk1 and Soyang were also low in dark respiration, photosynthetic capacity, and net apparent quantum yield. In conclusion, it is recommended that cultivars Baektanshim ${\times}$ Kyungbuk1 and Soyang might be used as a dwarf type due to photosynthetic capacity.
The $Ca_2SiO_4$ phosphors doped by La with 0.1 wt%, 0.3 wt%, 0.5 wt%, and 1.0 wt% concentration were prepared by sintering at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 90 minutes in N2 atmosphere. The phosphors were ground in powdered form and were grouped in $100{\mu}m$ size, then the samples had been exposed to low energy X-ray and UV light. The TL glow curves were measured by heating the phosphors at $10^{\circ}C/s$ rate. There was no significantly meaningful correlation between the TL intensity and the doping level. The intensities of the TL peak measured from X-ray irradiated samples doped with 0.1 wt% were relatively strong. The activation energy and the frequency factor were 0.434 ~ 0.516 eV and 0.5 ~ 0.56, respectively. The intensities of the TL peak measured from UV irradiated samples doped with 0.3 wt% were relatively strong. The activation energy and frequency factor were 0.415 ~ 0.477 eV and 0.5 ~ 0.53, respectively. The TL process were found to be the 2nd order for both X-ray and UV irradiation. The TL intensity was increased linearly with the increase of the radiation dose. In summary, the $Ca_2SiO_4 phosphors developed in this study showed good TL characteristics at low energy X-ray and UV light. We believe they will be used as TLDs in near future for personal and environmental radiation detection dosimetry.

We performed a new high-resolution spectroscopy of AG Vir for 4 nights from 25 March 2004 using the BOES (Bohyunsan Optical Echelle Spectrograph) attached to the 1.8-m reflector at Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory, and obtained a total of 59 spectra where all orbital phases are covered. To get the radial velocities of the binary system, both method of the CCF (Cross-Co..elation Function)and the BF (Broadening Function) were applied to the analysis of all the observed spectra. From these, the CCF could calculate the radial velocities of the primary star alone, while the BF could determine those of the primary and the secondary components. New absolute dimensions were deduced with the combination of our spectroscopic orbital elements ($K_1=90.5km/s$와 $K_2=258.8$) and the photometric solutions of Bell, Rainger, & Hilditch (1990): $A_1,=1.99M_\bigodot,\;M_2=0.62M_\bigodot,\;R_1=2.21R_\bigodot,\;R_2=1.36R_\bigodot,\;L_1=13.17L_\bigodot,\;and\;L_2=3.47L_\bigodot$. Our absolute parameters are larger and brighter than those derived from Bell, Rainger, & Hilditch (1990). We re-analyzed all the previous radial-velocity curves of AG Vir and, as a result, can see that its system velocity scatters largely up to ${\pm}8km/s$. However, we, at present, cannot determine this as the light-time effect due to the third body, which was suggested as a cause of the orbital period changes by Qian (2001).
The killing of male germ cells by radiation and other toxicants has recently been attributed to apoptosis, but a critical evaluation of the presence of the different features of apoptosis in each epithelial stage has not been performed. In this study, mouse testes exposed to radiation were examined by light microscopy and terminal transferase-mediated end labeling (TUNEL) with periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) stains to determine whether the cells were apoptotic according to several criteria. Apoptosis was easily recognized by the presence of peroxidase-stained, entirely apoptotic bodies. In the TUNEL-positive cells or bodies, the stained products correlated precisely with the typical morphologic characteristics of apoptosis as seen at the light microscopic level. The changes that occurred from 0 to 24 hours after exposing the mice to 2 Gy of gamma-rays (2 Gy/min) were examined. The numbers of apoptotic cells reached a peak at 12 hours after irradiation and then declined. The mice that received 0-8 Gy of gamma-rays were examined 8 hours after irradiation. Dose-response relationships were generated for each stage of the epithelial cycle by counting TUNEL-positive cells. The dose-response curves were linear- quadratic [y=(-0.014${\pm}$0.009)$D^{2}$+(0.31${\pm}$0.697)D+0.3575. Where y=the number of apoptotic cells per seminiferous tubule, and D=the irradiation dose in Gy, $r^{2}$=0.9] and there was a significant relationship between the frequency of apoptotic cells and the radiation dose. Although the maximum response was produced by 8 Gy, even 0.5 Gy induced marked changes. These changes were most pronounced in B spermatogonia of stage V and the spermatocyte at the mitotic cells of stage XII.

The o/w emulsions were prepared with saccharide surfactants which were sucrose monostearate(S160), sucrose distearate(S110), and POE(20) methyl glucose stearate(SSE20). And for emulsion the oils used were n-hydocarbon, squalane(SQ), liquid paraffin(LP), octylpalmitate(OP), octylstearate(OS), alkyl benzoate(AB), isostearyl benzoate(ISB). The structures of o/w emulsion droplet were investigated by laser light scattering and the fractal dimensions were calculated from light intensity curves. Increasing of concentration, chain length, and nonpolarity of oils, fractal dimensions of emulsion droplets were found greater. In general fiactal dimensions were varied from 1.7 to 2.8 and its structures were fractal But the fractal dimensions of octadecane( $C_{18}$), 50, and LP emulsified with S110 and S160 were varied from 3.0 to 3.2 and its structures were more dense. The overall fractal dimensions of S110 and S160 were varied from 2.1 to 2.6, that of SSE20 were varied from 1.5 to 2.1. So it was found that the structures of SSE20 system were less compact than that of S110 and S 160 system, because the hindrance effect of polyoxyehtylene group of SSE20 was stronger than that of sucrose of S160. The strucures of emulsion droplets changed according to the nature of emulsifiers and to compositions of oil substances which they contained, and the structures were found similar when the hydophilic moiety of emulsifiers was same.

The visual characteristics of the World Cup emblem play an important role in conveying culture and identity, highlighting the key elements of the Games, and strengthening the brand image. This study first investigated the visual elements and theoretical background of the emblem through previous studies. Second, the selection of symbolism, shape, and color was the subject of the study. Third, based on the shape-related theory based on the '100 National Cultural Symbols', the analysis was performed using the 'IRI Color Matching Image Scale' as a tool, and a final conclusion was drawn. The World Cup emblem uses a lot of ethnic and living symbols, and the living and ethnic symbols are expressed in a combination. In the beginning, there were many symmetric shapes, but after that it changed to an asymmetric shape. The curved expression form is more used than the straight expression form. And most of the color arrangement image scale distribution shows light, dynamic and modern color arrangement characteristics. In the future, the World Cup emblem design will continue to use national and living symbols. The shape of the emblem should use curves and asymmetric designs, be intuitive, and directly reflect the theme of the competition. In addition, the national flag color should be used as the main color, and other colors should be used as secondary colors. The combination of colors must match the light, dynamic and modern color characteristics of the IRI color scheme image scale.
We present the analysis results of the simultaneous multifrequency observations of the blazar 4C +28.07. The observations were conducted by the Interferometric Monitoring of Gamma-ray Bright Active Galactic Nuclei (iMOGABA) program, which is a key science program of the Korean Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) Network (KVN). Observations of the iMOGABA program for 4C +28.07 were conducted from 16 January 2013 (MJD 56308) to 13 March 2020 (MJD 58921). We also used γ-ray data from the Fermi Large Array Telescope (Fermi-LAT) Light Curve Repository, covering the energy range from 100 MeV to 100 GeV. We divided the iMOGABA data and the Fermi-LAT data into five periods from 0 to 4, according to the prosody of the 22 GHz data and the presence or absence of the data. In order to investigate the characteristics of each period, the light curves were plotted and compared. However, a peak that formed a hill was observed earlier than the period of a strong γ-ray flare at 43-86 GHz in period 3 (MJD 57400-58100). Therefore, we assumed that the minimum total CLEANed flux density for each frequency was quiescent flux (Sq) in which the core of 4C +28.07 emitted the minimum, with the variable flux (Svar) obtained by subtracting Sq from the values of the total CLEANed flux density. We then compared the variability of the spectral indices (α) between adjacent frequencies through a spectral analysis. Most notably, α22-43 showed optically thick spectra in the absence of a strong γ-ray flare, and when the flare appeared, α22-43 became optically thinner. In order to find out the characteristics of the magnetic field in the variable region, the magnetic field strength in the synchrotron self-absorption (BSSA) and the equipartition magnetic field strength (Beq) were obtained. We found that BSSA is largely consistent with Beq within the uncertainty, implying that the SSA region in the source is not significantly deviated from the equipartition condition in the γ-ray quiescent periods.

Benthic diatoms are very important primary producers in understanding estuary ecosystems and their productions are largely varied by their photo-physiological characteristics. The short-term effects of increased temperature on the photosynthetic and photo-physiological characteristics of cultured different species of benthic diatoms (Navicula sp., Nitzschia sp., Cylindrotheca closterium, and Pleurosigma elongatum) were investigated by measuring their PSII-fluorescence kinetics using a Diving-PAM. Photosynthesis versus irradiance curves were measured every two hours at six different temperatures (10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and $35^{\circ}C$) for twenty-four hour. The effective quantum yield of PSII ($\Phi_{PSII}$) for most of the species showed a decreasing trend with increased temperature. The relative maximum electron transport rate (rETRmax) was significantly increased up to the optimum temperature level and then sharply decreased. Relative to the values of other parameters, the maximum light use coefficient ($\alpha$) was not substantially changed at lower temperature levels (<$30^{\circ}C$) but significantly decreased only at higher temperatures (30 and $35^{\circ}C$). The light saturation coefficient ($E_K$) mirrored the rETRmax temperature response. In regards to the temperature acclimation abilities of the four species with time, Navicula sp. and C. closterium acclimated to short-term changes in temperature through their photo-physiological adjustments.
Several triterpenoid saponins from root of Pulsatilla koreana Nakai (Ranunculaceae) were studied and their biological activities were reported. It is difficult to analyze triterpenoid saponins using HPLC-UV due to the lack of chromophores. So, evaporative light scattering detection (ELSD) is used as a valuable alternative to UV detection. More recently, a charged aerosol detection (CAD) has been developed to improve the sensitivity and reproducibility of ELSD. In this study, we developed and validated a novel method of high performance liquid chromatography coupled with a charged aerosol detector for the simultaneous determination of four triterpenoid saponins: pulsatilloside E, pulsatilla saponin H, anemoside B4 and cussosaponin C. Analytes were separated by the Supelco Ascentis$^{(R)}$ Express C18 column (4.6 mm ${\times}$ 150 mm, 2.7 ${\mu}m$) with gradient elution of methanol and water at a flow rate of 0.8 mL/min at $30^{\circ}C$. We examined various factors that could affect the sensitivity of the detectors, including various concentrations of additives, the pH of the mobile phase, and the CAD range. Linear calibration curves were obtained within the concentration ranges of 2 - 200 ${\mu}g$/mL for pulsatilloside E, anemoside $B_4$ and cussosaponin C, and 5 - 500 ${\mu}g$/mL for pulsatilla saponin H with correlation coefficient ($R^2$) greater than 0.995. The limit of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) were 0.04 - 0.2 and 2 - 5 ${\mu}g$/mL, respectively. The validity of the developed HPLC-CAD method was confirmed by satisfactory values of linearity, intra- and inter-day accuracy and precision. This method could be successfully applied to quality evaluation, quality control and monitoring of Pulsatilla koreana.
Organic dyes, because of their many advantages, such as high molar extinction coefficients, convenience of customized molecular design for desired photophysical and photochemical properties, inexpensiveness with no transition metals contained, and environment-friendliness, are suitable as photosensitizers for the Dye-sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC). The efficiency of DSSC based on metal-free organic dyes is known to be much lower than that of Ru dyes generally, but a high solar energy-to-electricity conversion efficiency of up to 8% in full sunlight has been achieved by Ito et al. using an indoline dye. This result suggests that smartly designed and synthesized metal-free organic dyes are also highly competitive candidates for photosensitizers of DSSCs with their advantages mentioned above. Recently, the performance of DSSC based on metal-free organic dyes has been remarkably improved by several groups. We had reported the novel organic dye with double electron acceptor chromophore, which was a new strategy to design an efficient photosensitizer for DSSC. To verify the strategy, we synthesized organic dyes whose geometries, electronic structures and optical properties were derived from preceding density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculations. In this paper, we successfully synthesized the chromophore containing multi-acceptor push-pull system from triphenylamine with thiophene moieties as a bridge unit. Organic dyes with a single electron acceptor and double acceptor system were also synthesized for comparison purposes. The photovoltaic performances of these dyes were compared, and the recombination dark current curves and the incident photon-to-current (IPCE) efficiencies were also measured in order to characterize the effects of the multi-anchoring groups on the open-circuit voltage and the short-circuit current. In order to match specifications required for practical applications to be implemented outdoors, light soaking and thermal stability tests of these DSSCs, performed under $100mWcm^{-2}$ and $60^{\circ}C$ for 1000h.
