Lifting Load Recording and Management Method of the Lift for Construction Based Sensing Information

  • While buildings in recent days become taller and larger, many problems occur during the management of construction. Particularly, as the vertical movement of manpower and materials during construction has become longer while the lifting frequency and load increase, the need for a good lifting management practice is also increasing. Therefore, this study presents a real-time lifting performance monitoring system that can store and manage lifting records for construction management. Through review of literature and preceding studies related to construction lift, the concept of lift planning and operation management was understood, leading to the development of a system to monitor lifting operation and performance information. This system enabled quick measurement of the lifting performance during construction phase while responding to changes in the project schedule. To verify this system, a case study was conducted in which the current status and characteristics of the sensing-based lifting performance were derived.

  • Procurement and lifting scheduling of modules and resources in modular construction, where modules that are manufactured from factory are delivered and assembled on site, is a crucial factor that determines the efficiency of the whole construction. However, previous studies have barely acknowledged the significance of resource procurement process and lifting of modules in modular construction. Therefore, this research aims to derive factors that are in need of improvement for successful implementation of procurement and lifting efficiency, and visualize them according to their importance and performance on improvement through IPA(Important Performance Analysis).

Relationship Between the Number of Hip Abduction Performance With Contralateral Adduction in Side-lying and the Lateral Pelvic Shift Distance During One-leg Lifting

  • Background: The gluteus medius (Gmed) plays a critical role in maintaining frontal plane stability of the pelvis during functional activities, such as one-leg lifting. Side-lying hip abduction (SHA) has been used as a dynamic test to evaluate Gmed function. However, the abduction force of the lower leg against the floor is not controlled during SHA. Therefore, hip abduction performance with contralateral adduction in the side-lying position (HAPCA) can be proposed as an alternative method to assess performance of hip abduction. If the number of HAPCA is related to the lateral pelvic shift distance, a new quantitative measurement for hip abductor function may be presented. Objects: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the number of successful HAPCA and the lateral pelvic shift distance during one-leg lifting. Methods: Thirty healthy participants were recruited, and lateral pelvic shift distance was measured during one-leg lifting test using two-dimensional analysis. The number of successful HAPCA was counted when participants touched both target bars at the beat of a metronome. Results: There was a negative correlation between the number of HAPCA and lateral pelvic shift distance during one-leg lifting (r = -0.630, p < 0.05). The number of HAPCA accounted for 39.7% of the variance in the lateral pelvic shift distance during one-leg lifting (F = 18.454, p < 0.001). Conclusion: The number of successful HAPCA is significantly correlated with lateral pelvic shift distance during one-leg lifting. This finding suggests that HAPCA can be proposed as a new measurement for hip abductor performance and more research is needed on its relationship with hip abductor strength.

  • Lifting plan in conjunction with the overall construction plan will be established. It is being created by executive director of the Corporation and other such as an experienced site manager. But, written lifting plan based on the limited information and experience is causing some problems such as decreasing productivity, workability loss, delay. The reasons for the problems are lack of prediction of construction execution, inappropriate materials on the past performance, individual experience, limits of knowledge, lack of technical materials, shortage of advisor. Therefore, to solve the problems, we have to overcome the situation in which we depends on lifting planner's experience and intuition, limited information by accumulating objective and reliable materials. Because unorganized lifting plan will lower efficiency of lifting equipment and make reducing construction period difficult. In this study, influence factors on lifting plans will be derived through reviewing literatures and lifting plan cases. Derived influence factors will be classified as components and classes, classified influence factors are assessed suitability. Also, Decision making items are derived from the factors. Finally, tower crane lifting plan process will be suggested from the result.

  • As the damage caused by disasters increases rapidly around the world, it is necessary to develop the technology for equipment to reduce human injury. Therefore in the support of fire safety and 119 rescue and rescue technology research and development project, in the "Development of a power assist device for a fireman to rescue humans(2015 ~ 2018)" for life saving restoration, we are developing equipment that satisfies the lifting performance considering the disaster environment and the disaster response scenario(Amount of load over 100 kg, height of over 1 m, height over middle 60 cm, speed over 0.2 m/s). In this study, we propose a lifting performance and environmental test method to evaluate the usefulness of the power-assisted device and analyze and verify detailed specifications of the device through dynamics analysis of the lifting performance test. This study suggests that the proposed test method can be applied practically to evaluate whether a stable performance of a power-assisted device is achieved.

  • This paper proposes a dual lifting and its cooperative control system with two different kinds of floating cranes. The Mega-erection and Giga-erection in the ship building are used to handle heavier and wider blocks and modules as ships and off-shore platforms are enlarged. However, there is no equipment to handle such Tera-blocks. In order to overcome the limit on performance of existing floating cranes, the dual lifting is proposed in this research. In the dual lifting, two floating cranes are well-coordinated to add up the lift capabilities of both cranes without any loss such that virtually a single crane is lifting, maneuvering and unloading. Two main constraints for the dual lifting are as follows: First, two barges of floating cranes should be constrained as a rigid body not to cause a relative motion between two barges and main hooks of the two cranes should be controlled as main hooks of a single crane. In order words, it is necessary to develop the cooperative control of two floating cranes in order to sustain a center of gravity of the module and minimize the tilting angle during the lifting and unloading by the two floating cranes. Two floating cranes are handled as a master-slave system. The master crane is able to gather information about all working conditions and make a decision to control the individual hook speed, which communicates the slave crane by TCP/IP. The developed control system has been embedded in the real floating crane systems and the dual lifting has been demonstrated five times at SHI shipyard in 2015. The moving angles of the lifting module are analyzed and verified to be suitable for hoisting control. It is verified that the dual lifting can be applied for many heavier and wider blocks and modules to shorten the construction time of ships and off-shore platforms.

Development of a hydraulic power transmission system for the 3-point hitch of 50-kW narrow tractors

  • High performance small and mid-sized tractors are required for dryland and orchard operations. A power transmission system is the most important issue for the design of high performance tractors. Many operations, such as loading and lifting, use hydraulic power. In the present study, a hydraulic power transmission system for the 3-point hitch of a 50 kW narrow tractor was developed and its performance was evaluated. First, major components were designed based on target design parameters. Target operations were spraying, weeding, and transportation. Main design parameters were determined through mathematical calculation and computer simulation. The capacity of the hydraulic cylinder was calculated taking the lifting force required for the weight of the implements into consideration. Then, a prototype was fabricated. Major components were the lifting valve, hydraulic cylinder, and 3-point hitch. Finally, performance was evaluated through laboratory tests. Tests were conducted using load weights, lift arm sensor, and lift arm height from the ground. Test results showed that the lifting force was in the range of 23.5 - 29.4 kN. This force was greater than lifting forces of competing foreign tractors by 3.9 - 4.9 kN. These results satisfied the design target value of 20.6 kN, determined by survey of advanced foreign products. The prototype will be commercialized after revision based on various field tests. Improvement of reliability should be also achieved.

Development of the Design System for the Lifting Lug Structure (탑재용 러그 구조의 설계 시스템 개발)

  • Due to the rapid growth of ship building industry and increment of ship construction in Korea, several hundred thousand of lifting lugs per year, have been installed at the lifting positions of ship block and removed after finishing their function, therefore, appropriate design system for strength check or optimal design of each lug structure has been required in order to increase the capability of efficient design. In this study, design system of D-type lifting lug structure which is most popular and useful in shipyards, was developed for the purpose of initial design of lug structure. Developed system layout and graphic user interface for this design system based on the C++ language were explained step by step. Using this design system, more efficient performance of lug structural design will be expected on the windows of personal computer.

  • The purpose of this study was the analytical safety evaluation on the super-structure of precast modular bridge using standardized modular members and robotic construction during the transportation routing and lifting conditions. In order to evaluate the safety performance of the bridge system, 3-D full scale Finite Element (FE) of 40 m standardized modular block was developed in ABAQUS, followed by the analytical study to classify the structural system according to steel girder structures: 1) modular bridge block lifting method including the steel girder system; 2) modular bridge block lifting method without the steel girder system. The results from the analytical study revealed that the maximum stress of each modular member was within the maximum allowable stresses during lifting condition. However, the stress concentration at the connected area was more critical in comparison to the behavior of 40 m combined modular blocks during lifting time

  • In this paper, a new image compression technique, which uses lifting scheme and pyramid vector quantization, is proposed. Lifting scheme is a new technique to generate wavelets and to perform wavelet transform, and pyramid vector quantization is a kind of vector quantization which dose not have codebook neither codebook generation algorithm. For the purpose of realizing more compression rate, an arithmetic entropy coder is used. Proposed algorithm is compared with other wavelet based image coder and with JPEG which uses DCT and adaptive Huffman entropy coder. Simulation results showed that the performance of proposed algorithm is much better than that of others in point of PSNR and bpp.
