  • The purpose of the study was to examine the effectiveness of Neuro Feedback training by observing the pre and post brainwave measurement results of about 50 (experimental group 25. comparative group 25) subjects who have shown psychological difficulties in studying. attention deficit, and personalities. The study took place at Neuro Feedback training Center B. in between the months of July 2006 and May 2007. The methodology involved in the study included the Coloring Analysis Program of the Brain Quotient Test. As the brain waves are adjusted by timeseries linear analysis. the brain function quotients can reflect the functional states of the brain. Through the test, three parameters relaxation, attention and concentration-were initially measured for one minute each and the lowest parameter out of the three was selected as the training mode or improvement target. The training took place two or three times a week. for about 40 to 60 minutes per session. Because the clients have come to the training center at different times. the researcher sampled the results of only those who had attended more than 30 training sessions. The tool used to measure the psychological reaction was POMS (Profile of Mood State). while the tool used to measure the emotional and attention-deficit characteristics was the Amen Clinic ADD Type questionnaire. Hypothesis testing included t-test. The result of the study showed the Theta: SMR ratio of (left)p = .013. (right) p = .019. The result also confirmed the differences of both ATQ(left) p = .011. (right)p = .030 and SQ(left) p = .017. (right) p = .022. The result confirmed of emotional p = .000. attention-deficit characteristics p = .000. The result of the study suggest Neuro Feedback technique's possibility in positively affecting the subjects' mental state and attention-deficit characteristics.

  • Objectives : Assuming that the characteristic of meridian system has been similar to this of electric potentials in human body and that measurements of electric potential at well(井穴) and sea(合穴) points in branches of the twelve meridians will be representative of measurements of the twelve meridians, to measure the electric potentials in three patient groups with arrhythmia(AP group), with arrhythmia and cerebral infarction(CI group), and with arrhythmia and hemorrhage(CH group), and then to find out the characteristic of meridian system among 3 groups. Methods : Thirty arrhythmic patients diagnosed by EKG, CT, and deficiency of the heart blood(心血虛症) were divided into 3 groups(AP, CI, CH group). Their electric potential of well and sea points in the meridians were measured 3 times by physiograph. Results : Measurements were analyzed by statistical factor analysis, we obtained that the left side electric potential of well and sea points in branches of the twelves meridians in AP group was divided into two factors, which were the hand meridian without the lung meridian, the foot meridian and the lung meridian, but the right side electric potential was divided into the hand and the foot meridian. In CH group both the left and the right side electric potential was divided into three factors. In CI group the left side electric potential was divided into three factors, but the right side electric potential was divided into two factors. Conclusions : In conclusion, their electrical potentials were different each other among 3 groups. Thus electrical potentials of well and sea points might be the representative meridian to show their characteristics.

  • The block theory with stereographic projection was applied and analyzed on the tunnel section of Samcheok Coal Mine. The results were as follows ; 1) Prevail orientations of discontinuity of sandstone around the main driftway of Samcheok Coal Mine were $(327^{\circ},\;44^{\circ}),\;(13^{\circ},\;24^{\circ}),\;(204^{\circ},\;65^{\circ})$ and $(225^{\circ},\;77^{\circ})$ in dip and dip direction, respectively. 2) Movable blocks of the site were 0110, 0111, 1110(roof), 0100, 0110, 1110(right wall) and 0001, 1001, 1011(left wall). Because of the direction of tunnel, blocks of the left wall was safe. thus key blocks were those of the roof and the right wall. Maximum height of key block was larger than the width of the tunnel but 2m of the yielded zone is expected in general for 5m width tunnel. 3) It is shown that block theory is applicable to large cavern in hard rock analysis.

  • This study was conducted to ascertain whether a didactic mode of instruction, favored students who indicated a preference for left hemispheric information processing. The subjects were 50 fifth grade students whose California Achievement Test score percentile ranks were between 50 - 80. They were randomly selected from one elementary school in Chapel Hill, NC, USA. All Ss completed the Form CC of "Your Style of Learning and Thinking" (Torrance and McCarthy, 1980) which is a paper/pencil inventory designed to categorize the subjects according to their hemispheric preference for processing information; right hemisphere, left hemisphere, and integrated. Then all Ss received a didactic mode of instruction, a verbal question/answer followed by teacher's reading of a fictional animal story, "The Chinese Bee-eater". After completion of instruction, the Ss were asked to respond to eighteen open-ended questions about the animal. Eight of the 50 subjects were found to fall into the right hemisphere style of information processing group; fourteen into left; and fourteen into integrated. The remaining fourteen could not be assigned to either of these three categories and were not included in the analysis of the results. the mean scores of the comprehensive test among hemispheric groups and among sex groups. A two way analysis of variance also presented no significant differences among the hemispheric preference combined by sex groups. These results failed to prove the research hypothesis that students who indicate a preference for left hemispheric information processing will have higher scores on a comprehensive test after receiving a didactic mode of instruction, the so-called left style of instruction. Some limits in research process and conceptual confusion about hemisphericity were discussed. Finally, it was suggested that educators need to be more careful in drawing educational implications from neurological hemispheric research.

  • A hundred and eleven patients of mitral valvular heart disease, who were operated at Seoul National University Hospital, were analysed with echocardiogram before and after operation during the period from November 1979 to February 1982. Twenty-eight patients had mitral stenosis and eighty-three mitral regurgitation. In patients with mitral stenosis, right ventricular end-diastolic volume was in normal range at preoperative and postoperative period. But the left ventricular end-systolic volume was slightly increased preoperatively to 35.4mm and decreased to 33.5mm on immediate postoperative period and 32.5mm after a year later. The left ventricular end-diastolic volume was 50.5mm preoperatively and fell to 46.8mm postoperatively. Ejection fraction was normal preoperatively and postoperatively without changes. Left atrial size fell significantly from 50ram to 37.6mm at the time of late follow-up study. With mitral regurgitation, right ventricular end-diastolic volume was also normal preoperatively and postoperatively. The left ventricular end-systolic volume was increased to 41.9mm and decreased to 31.6mm postoperatively with statistic significance. Left ventricular end-diastolic volume fell from 58.5mm to 45.7mm significantly at the time of late follow-up period. Ejection fraction was also within normal range and had no changes postoperatively. Left atrial size fell from 54.8mm to 45.5mm on a year later [ p value less than 0.01 ]. When atrial fibrillation, the left atrial dimension was increased as 54.9mm compared with 46.8mm of no atrial fibrillation patients.

  • The SymMerge algorithm is an efficient merging algorithm for input sequences u and v of sizes $\left|u \right|=m$ and $\left|v \right|=n$, $m{\leq}n$. We consider complexity analysis for SymMerge algorithm regarding to the required number of comparisons. The focus of the previous complexity analysis was on finding the values of upper bounds, i.e. showing the asymptotical optimality. In this paper, in a different way from the previous complexity analysis, we show that the overall required number of comparisons for two representative special cases "symmetric case" and "maximum spanning case" can be calculated exactly i.e. the least upper bounds regarding to the required number of comparisons are calculated. Symmerge requires exactly $m\;log\frac{n}{m}+4m-logm-3$ comparisons for symmetric case of sizes $m=2^k,\;n=2^l,l{\geq}k$ of input sequences and exactly $\frac{1}{2}m^2+(m+1)logm-\frac{3}{2}m+2$ comparisons for maximum spanning case of sizes $m=2^k,n=2^m-m$ of input sequences. Additionally we show that the complexity of the Symmerge algorithm regarding to the overall required number of comparisons for these special cases can be defined by recurrence relations.
