버어리종, 황색종, 양건종, 담배의 유전분석에 관한 연구 I. $F_1$의 잡종강세, 상관 및 조합능력 (STUDIES ON THE GENETIC ANALYSIS AMONG BURLEY, FLUE-CURED AND SUN-CURED TYPE TOBACCO 1. HETEROSIS, CORRELATION AND COMBINING ABILITY OF $F_1$ HYBRID)

  • The present studies were carried out to obtain some basic informations of the breeding of tobacco varieties. Genetically divergent 8 varieties, 3 flue-cured, 2 burley and 3 sun-cured tobaccos, were used in half diallel cross. In order to analyze the heterosis, combining abilities, modes of inheritance and correlations for some agronomic and chemical characters, 8 parents and 28 $F_1$ were tested. The results obtained were summarized as follows: The percentages of heterosis for stem diameter, internode length and total sugar content in $F_1$ hybrid were 3.6%, 3.1% and 10.6%, whereas these for days to flower, total alkaloids and leaves per plant were -6.3%, -6.9% and -5.0%, respectively. Yield had significant positive genotypic correlations with plant height, days to flower and leaf length, but negative with internode length and total sugar content. It also had significant prositive phenotypic correlations with plant height, days to flower, leaves per plant, leaf length, leaf width and leaf shape index (Leaf length/leaf width). General (GCA) and specific combining abilities (SCA) for all characters of $F_1$ hybrid were significant. The effects of GCA were positive on yield, plant height, stem diameter, leaves per plant and days to flower of Burley 21. And those were positive on yield, leaf shape index and plant height, but negative on leaves per plant and total nitrogen of Hicks. The effects of SCA for yield and leaves per plant were greater than those of others on the combinations of Coker 139 and Burley type, respectively.

담배 엽 중 칼륨 분석법의 평가 (Evaluation of Analytical Method for Determination of Potassium in Tobacco Leaf)

  • This study was carried out to improve and evaluate the analytical method for determination of potassium in tobacco leaf by various pre-treatment techniques. The time requirment of various pre-treatments was about 10 hour for dry ashing and 6 hour for microwave digestion and 3 hour for sonication. The results of recover in both pre-treatment techniques, microwave digestion and sonication, is greater than 85 % stably with reproducibility(RSD %) on replicates of less than 3 %. However the mean values for microwave digestion were lower than certified standard value of NlST SRM. Compared to the other pre-treatment techniques, analytical results for sonication technique strictly improved the accuracy and precision. In conclusion, the use of the simple sonication technique seems to be efficient for the determination of potassium in tobacco leaf in consideration for both the accuracy and reproducibility.

연초 버어리종 웅성불임 일대잡종 KB 111의 육성경과 및 농경적 특성

  • The vein necrotic strain of Potato Virus Y (PVY - VN) and black shank (Phyto-phthora parasitica var. nicotianae) are the two major diseases causing severe damages especially in burley tobacco (N. tabacum L.) area in Korea. A new tobacco variety, KB 111, resistant to PVY and black shank disease, was developed by Korea Ginseng & Tobacco Research Institute in 1997. It is a male sterile(MS) F$_1$ hybrid of the cross between MS TC 613 and KB 108. KB 111 was compared to Burley 21 on the agronomic characteristics and disease resistances in performance tests: It possessed upright growth habit and flowered two days later than Burley 21. It was resistant to both PVY and black shank and yielded about 3% more cured leaf than Burley 21, but other characteristics are very simiar to those of Burley 21. The chemical composition and physical properties of the cured leaf of KB 111 were as much acceptable as those of Burley 21 while it produced average yield of good quality leaf and appeared to resistant to PVY and black shank disease on regional farm test in 1998.

연초 엽의 색 특성과 원격탐사 반사율지표의 상호관계 (Relationship Between Color Characteristic and Reflectance Index by Ground-based Remote Sensor for Tobacco Leaves)

  • 지상원격탐사 센서를 이용한 황색종의 적숙엽 판단기준을 평가하기 위하여 성숙기에 중엽과 상엽부위에 대하여 수확엽의 녹색도를 5개 수준으로 구분하여 여러 가지 센서지표들의 상호관계를 평가하였다. 건조엽의 색 특성은 색차계(Colorimeter, CR-300)를 이용하여 L, a, b값을 측정하였고 건조엽의 청색도는 육안관찰에 의한 분포정도를 수치화하여 비교 검토하였다. 수확엽의 녹색도에 따른 반사율은 550nm와 675nm에서 녹색도가 증가할수록 감소되는 특성을 보였다. 건조엽의 반사율은 미숙된 엽이 건조된 후 녹색이 잔류되었기 때문에 미숙엽의 675nm 반사율이 더 낮아졌다. 그 결과 동일한 엽위에서 생엽과 건조엽의 반사율지표는 직선적인 정의 상관을 보였다. 또한 건조엽의 청색도는 모든 센서지표들과 유의성 있는 정의 상관을 보였고 명도를 나타내는 색차계 L값은 센서지표들과 유의성 있는 부의 상관을 보였다. 따라서 건조엽의 청색도로 평가된 센서 종류별 적숙엽의 기준은 엽록소 측정치 SPAD 값은 22 이하, 엽록소 측정치 CM-1000 값은 135 이하, 그리고 원격탐사센서 Crop Circle의 gNDVI 값은 0.43 이하로 평가되었다.

The Trend of Cigarette Design and Tobacco Flavor System Development

  • In light of addressing consumer health concern, coping with anti-tobacco movement, and promoting new product, tobacco industry is actively pursuing to make a new generation of cigarettes with low tar and nicotine deliveries, and less harmful substances. Low tar and low nicotine cigarettes increases their market shares dramatically world wide, especially in KT&G, multinational tobacco companies, EU countries, even in China regulated by CNTC to set up yearly target to lower tar and nicotine deliveries. On the other hand, to design a new cigarette with reduced harmful substances begins to gain speed. The "modified Hoffmann list" publishes thirty plus substances in tobacco leaf and main smoke stream, which is the prime suspect causing health problems. Various ways and means are developed to reduce such components including new tobacco breeds, new curing method, tobacco leaf treatment before processing, selected filtration system, innovated casing system to reduce free radicals, as well as some non conventional cigarette products. In TSRC held this year, the main topic is related to reduce tobacco specific nitrosamines in tobacco leaf. The new generation of cigarette is in the horizon. It still needs a lot help to produce commercial products with satisfied taste and aroma characters. The flavor industry is not regulated by many governments demanding which ingredients might or might not be for tobacco use. However, most of the cigarette companies self impose a list of ingredients to guide flavor suppliers to design flavors. Unfortunately, the number of ingredients in those lists is getting shorter every year. It is understandable that the health is not the only reason. Some cigarette companies are playing safe to protect the company from potential lawsuit, while others are just copying from their competitors. Moreover, it is obvious that it needs more assistance from casings and flavors to design new generation of cigarettes with missing certain flavor components in tobacco leaf and main smoke stream. These flavor components are either non-existed or at lower level at new form of cured tobacco leaf or filtered in the main smoke stream along with reduced harmful substances. The use of carbon filters and other selected filtration system poses another tough task for flavor system design. Specific flavor components are missing from the smoke analysis data, which brings a notion of "carbon taste" and "dryness" of mouth feel. It is ever more demanded by cigarette industry to flavor suppliers to produce flavors as body enhancer, tobacco notes, salivating agents, harshness reducer, and various of aromatic notes provided they are safe to use. Another trend is that water based flavor or flavor with reduced ethanol as solvent is gaining popularity. It is preferred by some cigarette companies that the flavor is compounded with all natural ingredients or all ingredients should he GMO free. The new generation of cigarettes demands many ways of new thinking process. It is also vital for tobacco industry. It reflects the real needs for the consumers that the cigarette product should be safe to use as well as bearing the taste and aroma characters smokers always enjoyed. An effective tobacco flavor system is definitely a part of the equation. The global trend of tobacco industry is like trends of any other industries lead by consumer needs, benefited with new technology availability, affected by the global economy, and subjected for various rules and regulations. Anti-tobacco organizations and media exceptionally scrutinize cigarette, as a legal commercial product. Cigarette is probably the most studied commercial product for its composition, structure, deliveries, effects, as well as its new developmental trend. Therefore, any new trend of cigarette development would be within these boundaries. This paper is trying to point out what it would be like for tobacco industry in the next few yews and what concerns the tobacco industry. It focuses mostly on the efforts to produce safer cigarettes. It is such a vital task for the tobacco industry and its affiliate industries such as cigarette papers, filters, flavors, and other materials. The facts and knowledge presented in this paper might be well known for the public. Some of the comments and predictions are very much personal opinion for a further discussion.

Statistical approach for development of objective evaluation method on tobacco smoke

  • This study was conducted to develop the objective evaluation method for tobacco smoke. The evaluation was carried out by using the data of cut or blended tobacco components, smoke components, electric nose system (ENS), and sensory test. By using the statistical methods, such as cluster analysis, discriminant analysis, factor analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis, the relationship among the data of tobacco, smoke, ENS, and sensory evaluation was studied. By the results of cluster analysis, the data from smoke analysis by GC and ENS were able to select the difference of tobacco leaf characteristics. As the results of discriminant analysis, grouping by the components of tobacco leaves and smoke was possible and the results of GC analysis of smoke could be used for discrimination of tobacco leaves. In the results of factor analysis, nicotine, tar, CO, puff No and pH in the smoke were the factors effecting on the tobacco leaf characteristics. From the correlation analysis, aroma, taste, irritation, and smoke volume of sensory test had high relation to tar, p-cresol threonolatone, levoglucosane, and quinic acid- ${\gamma}$ -lactone of smoke. The ENS data showed high efficiency for discriminant analysis and cluster analysis, but it was not good for factor analysis, and correlation analysis. It was possible to estimate tobacco leaves and their blending characteristics by the analytical data of tobacco leaves, smoke, ENS, and sensory test results. By the multiple regression analysis, some correlation among selected chemical components and sensory evaluation were found. This study strongly indicated that the some chemical analysis data was available for the objective evaluation of tobacco sensory attributes.

연초 재배를 위한 개간지 토양의 비옥도 증진에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Enhancement of Soil Fertility in the Reclaimed Land for Growing Tobacco)

  • 신개간지 토양에 대한 인산시용 수준별 석회, 퇴비증시, 퇴비와 붕소의 혼합시용에 따른 비옥도 증진의 효과가 연초의 수량 및 품질에 미치는 영향을 2년간에 걸쳐 시험한 결과를요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 개량제 처리의 효과는 1차년도에서 보다 2차년도에 담배 생육과 엽면적지수와 단위엽 면적중을 월등하게 증가시켰다. 3. 개량제의 시용으로 초년도의 pH, 치환성염기등이 숙전과 같은 수준으로 개선되었으며, 처리별 비옥도 증진효과는 퇴비증시구가 컸다. 3. 2차년도 시험결과에서 수량은 대조구에 비하여 15∼25% 증수되었고, 품질은 처리간에 큰 차 없으나, 개량제 시용으로 대조구에 비하여 3 - 7% 향상되었다. 수익 (10a당 수납대금)은 인산흡수계수에 대한 3 %조절량+퇴비증시구가 가장 높아 대조구보다 34%의 증가를 가져왔다.

  • 배추 및 고추재배지에 NC2326 품종을 공시하여 적정시비양 및 적심정도를 구명코자 본 시험을 발행하였던 바 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 배추 및 고추재배지 토양은 휴경지에 비하여유기물, 전질소, 질소함양이 높게 나타났다. 2. 전작물의 종류에 따라서 수량은 배추>고추 순이었고 증비할수록 증수효과가 컸으며 적심정도에 따라서는 꽃망울제법>치엽2매>치엽4매 적심구 순이었다. 3. 품질은 배추재배지에서 연초용 복합비료를 10a당 50kg, 고추재배지에서 75 시용할 때 가장 양호하였으며 적심정도에서는 치엽2매 적심에서 가장 양호하였 다. 4. 수확건조엽중 Nicotine 및 전질소함양은 배추재배지>고추재배지 순이었으며 증비할수록 증가하는 경향이였고 염소의 함양변화도 같은 경향이었다. 환원당은 고추재배지보다 배추재배지에서 낮았으며 증비할수록 감소하였다. 5. 연초재배는 배추재배지에서 연초용 복합비료를 10a당 50-75kg, 고추재배지에서는 75kg 절위가 좋고 토성 및 비첨도 등에 따라 적절히 가감 시용할 것이며 적심은 치엽 2매를 붙여서 하는 것이 양질엽 생산을 위하여 가장 이상적일 것으로 생각된다.

한국산 잎담배의 역학적 특성 (Mechanical properties of Korea Tobacco)

  • The tensile strength (Pm) . elongation percentage ($\varepsilon$) , elastic modulus (I) , and specific volume (Sv) were calculated from the data of tensile characteristics of By 104 .and Burley 21 tobacco leaves, which were measured over a relative humidity from 60 to 80% at $20\pm2^{\circ}C$.The important results obtained were as follows.(1) Tensile strength(Pm) The "Pm"of By 104 was greater than that of Burley at. The "Pm"in both varieties were increased toward the upper stalk position and according to the decrease of relative humidity. The "Pm" of parallel piece to tile vein in a leaf were greater than that of right angle piece to the vein. (2) Elongation percentage ($\varepsilon$). The "s" of By 104 was higher than that of Burley 21. The "s" in both varieties were increased toward the upper stalk position and according to the increase of relative humidity. The "s" of parallel Piece to the vein in a Burley leaf was greater than that of right angle piece to the vein. (3) Elastic modulus (E) The "E" of Burley 21 leaf was higher than that of By 104. The "E" in both varieties were increased toward the lower stalk position and according to decrease of relative humidity. The "E"of parallel piece to the vein in both varieties leaves were greater than that of right angle piece to tile vein. (4) Specific volume (Sv) The "Sv" of Burley 21 leaf was increased than that of By 104. 버어리종 잎담배의 주맥비율과 형질 상호간의 관련성 (Relationships of Midrib Ratio to Some Agronomic Characters in Burley Tobacco(N.tabacum L.))

  • This study was conducted to find out the relationship among agronomic characteristics including midrib ratio in Burley tobacco(N.tabacum L.) Four cultrivars, Burley 21, KB108, KB111 and KB301, were grown at Suwon Experimental Station in 2001. Several agronomic characteristics of these cultivars were measured for the analysis of correlations among agronomic characteristics. Midrib ratio of KB301 was somewhat higher than those of the other cultivars, but there is no significant differences among cultivars at $5\%$ probability level. Among four stalk positions, midrib ratio of cutters was the highest. Midrib ratio was correlated positively with length of leaf at $1\%$ level and negatively with weight of lamina at $5\%$ level, respectively.
