A Wide-range Tunable Wavelength-stabilization Technique for Semiconductor Lasers

  • This paper presents a wide-range tunable wavelength-locking technology based on optoelectronic oscillation (OEO) loops for optical fiber sensors and microwave photonics applications, explains the theoretical fundamentals of the design, and demonstrates a method for locking the relative wavelength differences between a leader semiconductor laser and its follower lasers. The input of the OEO loop in the proposed scheme (the relative wavelength difference) determines the radio-frequency (RF) signal frequency of the oscillation output, which is quantized into an injection current signal for feedback to control the wavelength drift of follower lasers so that they follow the wavelength change of the leader laser. The results from a 10-hour continuous experiment in a field environment show that the wavelength-locking accuracy reached ±0.38 GHz with an Allan deviation of 6.1 pm over 2 hours, and the wavelength jitter between the leader and follower lasers was suppressed within 0.01 nm, even though the test equipment was not isolated from vibrations and the temperature was not controlled. Moreover, the tunable range of wavelength locking was maintained from 10 to 17 nm for nonideal electrical devices with limited bandwidth.

  • In this paper, we propose the localization algorithm for the cooperative behavior of the swarm robots based on WSN (Wireless Sensor Network). The proposed method is as follows: First, we measure positions of the L-bot (Leader robot) and F-bots (Follower robots) by using the APIT (Approximate Point In Triangle) and the RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indication). Second, we measure relative positions of the F-bots against the pre-measured position of the L-bot by using trilateration. Then, to revise a position error caused by noise of the wireless signal, we use the particle filter. Finally, we show the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method though some simulations.

  • In this paper, we propose a formation control algorithm for multi-USVs according to COLREGs. First, we applied the Dynamic Window Approach algorithm that can reflect the kinematic characteristics for the path movement of USVs. Then, we propose a virtual structure-based virtual leader-follower method that applies the advantages of leader-follower and virtual structure methods among conventional formation control algorithms for stability. Next, we proposed a collision avoidance algorithm according to all COLREGs when encountering an opposing ship by adding COLREGs situational conditions to the virtual leader, and finally confirmed the feasibility of the proposed method through simulation.

Formation Control for Underactuated Autonomous Underwater Vehicles Using the Approach Angle

  • In this paper, we propose a formation control algorithm for underactuated autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) with parametric uncertainties using the approach angle. The approach angle is used to solve the underactuated problem for AUVs, and the leader-follower strategy is used for the formation control. The proposed controller considers the nonzero off-diagonal terms of the mass matrix of the AUV model and the associated parametric uncertainties. Using the state transformation, the mass matrix, which has nonzero off-diagonal terms, is transformed into a diagonal matrix to simplify designing the control. To deal with the parametric uncertainties of the AUV model, a self-recurrent wavelet neural network is used. The proposed formation controller is designed based on the dynamic surface control technique. Some simulation results are presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed control method.

Formation Flying of small Satellites Using Coulomb Force

  • The formation flying of satellites has been identified as an enabling technology for many future space missions. The application of conventional thrusters for formation flying usually results in high cost, limited life-time, and a large weight penalty. Various methods including the use of coulomb forces have been considered as an alternative to the conventional thrusters. In the present investigation, we investigate the feasibility of achieving the desired formation using Coulomb forces. This method has several advantages including low cost, light weight and no contamination. A simple controller based on the relative position and velocity errors between the leader and follower satellites is developed. The proposed controller is applied to circular formations considering the effects of disturbances in initial formation conditions as well as system nonlinearity. Results of the numerical simulation state that the proposed controller is successful in establishing circular formations of leader and follower satellites, for a formation size below 100 m.

  • For a class of nonlinear bilevel programming problems in which the follower's problem is linear, the paper develops a genetic algorithm based on the optimality conditions of linear programming. At first, we denote an individual by selecting a base of the follower's linear programming, and use the optimality conditions given in the simplex method to denote the follower's solution functions. Then, the follower's problem and variables are replaced by these optimality conditions and the solution functions, which makes the original bilevel programming become a single-level one only including the leader's variables. At last, the single-level problem is solved by using some classical optimization techniques, and its objective value is regarded as the fitness of the individual. The numerical results illustrate that the proposed algorithm is efficient and stable.

An Orbital Design Method for Satellite Formation Flying

  • An orbital design method of the formation initialization based on the relative orbital element method is presented. It firstly constructed the relative motion equation of the satellite formation flying in terms of the leader and followers' orbital elements. Then the equation was simplified when the orbit eccentricity of the leader satellite was small. And according to the satellites' mission, a general design method for the relative trajectory was proposed. The advantage of this method is that one can get a very simple analytical formula of each follower satellite's orbital elements when the orbital eccentricity of the leader satellite is zero. The simulation results show that the method is effective.

Reference State Tracking in Distributed Leader-Following Wireless Sensor Networks with Limited Errors

  • In this paper, the limited error tracking problem is investigated for distributed leader-following wireless sensor networks (LFWSNs), where all sensors share data by the local communications, follower sensors are influenced by leader sensors directly or indirectly, but not vice versa, all sensor nodes track a reference state that is determined by the states of all leader sensors, and tracking errors are limited. In a LFWSN, the communicating graph is mainly expressed by some complete subgraphs; if we fix subgraphs that are composed of all leaders while all nodes in complete subgraphs of followers run on the sleeping-awaking method, then the fixed leaders and varying followers topology is obtained, and the switching topology is expressed by a Markov chain. It is supposed that the measurements of all sensors are corrupted by additive noises. Accordingly, the limited error tracking protocol is proposed. Based on the theory of asymptotic boundedness in mean square, it is shown that LFWSN keeps the limited error tracking under the designed protocol.

편대 유도 법칙 및 초소형 비행체의 자동 편대 비행 구현 (Leader - Follower based Formation Guidance Law and Autonomous Formation Flight Test of Multiple MAVs)

  • 본 논문에서는 초소형 비행체의 자동 편대 비행을 위한 유도 법칙과 비행 시험 결과를 기술하였다. 초소형 비행체는 탑재 중량과 비행시간 등의 제한으로 인해 짧은 시간 안에 복수의 비행체가 임무를 분담하거나 협력하여 동시에 수행하는 것이 효율적이며 편대 비행은 이러한 임무 하중을 효과적으로 감소시킬 수 있다. 제안된 편대 유도 법칙은 Leader-Follower 편대 비행의 기하학적 관계 기반으로 비선형 모델 역변환 기법을 이용하여 설계하였다. 편대 유도 법칙에 필요한 비행체의 상태 정보는 비행체 간 고속의 데이터 통신 시스템을 구성하고 지상국을 통해 송수신하도록 하였다. 본 연구에서 제안된 비행체간 통신 기반의 편대 유도 기법은 센서의 측정 잡음에 대한 강건한 성능을 확인하기 위해 실제 비행 데이터 기반 시뮬레이션을 수행하였고 다수의 초소형 비행체를 이용한 편대 비행 시험을 통해 유도 법칙의 타당성을 검증하고 확인하였다.

선박 그룹항해시스템의 항법 알고리즘 개발 (Development of Sailing Algorithm for Ship Group Navigation System)

  • 자율운항선박 관련 기술개발이 전 세계적으로 활발히 진행되고 있다. 그러나, 통신, 사이버 보안, 긴급대처능력 등 기술적으로 해결되지 못한 문제들이 아직 많이 남아있기 때문에, 자율운항선박이 상용화되기까지는 많은 시간이 필요할 것으로 예상된다. 이 연구에서는 기술적으로 완전하지 않은 자율운항선박의 대체 방안으로 한 척의 리더 선박과 여러 척의 추종 선박을 하나의 그룹으로 묶어 항해하는 선박 그룹항해시스템을 제안한다. 이 시스템에서는 리더 선박이 항행을 개시하면 추종 선박은 리더 선박의 항행 경로를 자율적으로 추종하며, 경로 추종을 위해 PD 제어를 적용하였다. 또한, 각 선박들은 충돌방지를 위해 안전거리를 유지하면서 일직선 형태로 항해한다. 선박 간의 안전거리유지는 속력 제어를 통해 구현된다. 선박 그룹항해시스템의 유효성을 검증하기 위해 시뮬레이션을 수행하였다. 시뮬레이션에 사용된 선박은 관련 데이터가 공개되어 있는 KVLCC2의 L-7 모델이며, 선박조종운동에는 일본조선학회에서 제안한 MMG standard method를 사용하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과, 리더 선박은 미리 정해진 항로를 따라 항해하였으며, 추종 선박은 리더 선박의 경로를 따라 항해하였다. 세 척의 선박은 시뮬레이션 중 일직선 형태를 유지하였으며, 선박 간 안전거리를 유지하는 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구에서 제안하는 선박 그룹항해시스템은 자율운항선박의 문제점들을 해소하는 항행시스템으로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
