This paper investigates the effects of changes in household structure on service demand. The structure of households in Korea has been quickly changed due to low birth rate and population aging as well as increasing women's participation in the workforce. Their consumption patterns may have been altered by the structural changes. This paper focuses on the additional demand for market services replacing household activities such as household chores and care services. First, using a 3-sector time allocation model, we theoretically analyze the mechanism that marketization of household production can lead to the expansion of service industries. Next, in order to analyze the effects of changes in household structure on consumption demand, we estimate the Engel curves according to the QUAIDS model. For empirical work, the Survey of Household Finances was used. According to the results, structural changes in Korean households, such as an increase in single-person households, a decrease in families with a spouse or children under 6 years old, and an increase in dual-earner households, have caused an increase in medical expenses, education and training costs, and expenses for household services, which are typically substitutes for household production services.
PURPOSES: This study is to suggest the Contribution of Road Capital in Industry and Optimal Level of Road Investment in South Korea METHODS: Based on the literature review, This research is empirically estimated using disaggregate and disaggregated data composed of 10-sectors covering the entire korea economy for the period 1970~2000. The relevant policy questions addressed in this report are : cost reduction and Scale elasticities of road, effect of road capital stock on demand for labor, capital and materials, marginal effect of road, industry TFP growth decomposition, Net Social Rates of Returns, optimal of road capital. RESULTS : The marginal benefits of the road capital at the industry level were calculated using the estimated cost elasticities. Demand for the road capital services varies across industries as do the marginal effects. The marginal benefits are positive for the principal industries. This suggests that for these industries the existing stock of road capital may be under supplied. CONCLUSIONS: This results emerges is that the ratio of the optimum to actual road capital, measured by road, was high at beginning of the period 1970s and declined 1990s. There appears to be evidence of under-investment in road capital. That is continuous and premeditated investment for road which lead to saving time and finance.
There are a lot of raw materials, work-in-processes and finished goods in manufacturing industry. Here, the less stock of materials and work-in-processes manufacturing industry has, the worse the rate of the production is. Inversely, the more manufacturing industry has, the more expensive the cost to support them is. Thus, it is important for us to balance them efficiently. In general, inventory problems are to decide appropriate times to produce goods and to determine appropriate quantities of goods. Therefore, inventory problems require as more useful information as possible. For example, there are demand, lead time, ordering point and so on. In this paper, we deal with an optimal ordering policy on both way substitutable two-commodity inventory control system. That is, there is a problem of how to allocate the produced two kinds of goods in a factory to m areas so as to minimize the total expected inventory cost. The demand of each area is probabilistic, and we adopt the exponential distribution as a probability density function of demand. Moreover, we provide numerical examples of the problem.

Congestion occurs whenever users interfere with each other, while competing for scarce resources. In a congested market, such as a telecommunication service market, users of telecommunication services incur costs in using the service in addition to the price. The user's own time costs involved in learning to use the service, waiting for the service, and making use of the service are typically greater than the price of telecommunication services. A market equilibrium analysis is performed in which a method for user demand aggregation is developed. The effects of price changes on user demands and market demands for congested services are examined. It is found that total market demands may increase as the price for less-congested services increase under certain demand conditions. This suggests that a nonuniform pricing scheme for a congested service may improve the utilization of the congested system. The sign of price cross-elasticity for congested services is show to vary with demand conditions. A possible complementary property of congested services is found and the implication of such a property is discussed. It is argued that such a complementary property may lead to a cross subsidy in a market with congestion. Finally, comparisons between uniform pricing and nonuniform pricing policies are made. A specific numerical example is given to show that a nonuniform pricing policy may be Pareto superior to a uniform pricing policy.
In this paper, I scrutinize what Korea has achieved from the KTX(Korea Train Express) project for the past one year of operation since it was open to public in April 2004 while looking into some improvement measures for better services in the future. I tried to compare the clements with those of the Tokaido Shinkasen in Japan. As things may turn at its premier operation, the KTX has been suffering from a small number of passengers, low in demand. However, when I compared the previous year with the post KTX operation of one year, demand of the passenger has increased $40\%$ on Kyong-bu line. I figured the first one year of the KTX operation pretty much followed in the footstep of the Tokaido Shinkansen's. For example, the rate of the each train to be on time as the timetable was equivalent while KTX went through less technical problems than the Tokaido Shinkansen. I have come up with some ideas for improvement, which I believe will lead to the development growth of KTX. First, I suggest that we complete the construction of laying new rails on Kyong-bu line at the earliest possible time. Second, we need to extend the high speed network as well as the rail modernization. Last, I have no doubt that we should secure high technology before we forge in the overseas markets.

Recently, life cycle and lead-time of products have been shortened with the demand of customers. Therefore, it is important to reduce time and cost at the step of manufacturing trial molds. In order to realize three dimensional shape on CAD, the machining process has been widely used because it offers practical advantages such as precision and versatility. However, traditional machining process spends a lot of time in cutting product and the remained material causes trouble such as inconvenience for clean. In this work, a new machining process using the hot tool has been proposed to overcome those limitations. In the process, the hot tool moves the predetermined path and the heat of the tool decomposes the remained material. In order to set up the process, the hot tool to satisfy requirements is designed and the material thermal properties are obtained using the DSC and TGA machine. The relationships between process parameters and thermal radius of the tool are obtained through experiment.
This study is to investigate global logistics strategies of Korean electronics companies. in terms of service parts. According to the survey, Korean electronics companies were pursuing multi-level global logistics network such as global, continental, national, regional and service center echelon for improving the efficiency of service parts global logistics. Especially there was a tendency of developing new continental distribution centers. And the companies were exploiting efficiency through inventory control by multi-level echelon, demand forecasting by the product life cycle and supply and service lead time management. But there were some insufficient factors for the efficiency of global logistics operation at the construction of worldwide real time logistics information system and pursuit of the efficiency on the whole network including subcontractors. For the future competitive advantage of the Korean electronics companies, the following are suggested: 1) the establishment of arranged logistics channel adjusting each company's global strategy, 2) the construction of worldwide real time logistics information system, 3) the reengineering of all logistics procedures such as order processing, shipping, inventory control, etc., 4) the enhancement of the ratio of the supply from the external companies and the internal manufacturing subsidiaries at each continent, 5) and the pursuit of operational internalization of external subcontractors.
In this article, a simulation model of a microwave oven assembly line is developed to identify system parameters to improve the system performances such as work-in-process inventories, production lead time, mean earliness, mean tardiness and in-time completion rate. System parameters investigated include dispatching rules, lot sizing, setup time reduction, demand increase, productivity improvement, production scheduling, hardware characteristics, etc. The model has been developed using SIMAN simulation language which has been demonstrated to be a powerful tool to simulate complex manufacturing systems. We have suggested the results obtained to improve the system performances of an existing production line.

Recently, the lead-time of a product is to be shortened in order to satisfy consumer's demand. It is thus important to reduce the manufacturing time and the cost of 3D-shaped microstructures. Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) and devices are usually fabricated by lithography-based methods. Above method is not flexible for the rapid manufacture of 3D-shaped microstructures because it depends on work's experiences and requires excessive cost and time for making many masks. In this paper, the effective laser micrornachining is developed to fabricate UV sensitive polymer microstructures using laser ablation. The proposed process, named by laser microRP, is a very useful method on rapid manufacturing for 3D-shaped microstructures.

There has been an increasing trend toward the use of pushover analysis as a tool for evaluating the seismic resistant and safety of a building structure in the performance based earthquake engineering field. The ATC-40 document proposed a nonlinear static procedure based on the Capacity Spectrum Method to determine earthquake-induced demand given the structure pushover curve, which a curve representing base shear versus roof displacement. However, the procedure is conceptually simple, iterative and time consuming method and may sometimes lead to no solution or multiple solutions. A new improved method of seismic performance evaluation for moment frame building, which take into account the previously mentioned deficiencies of currently used elastic design procedures, is presented in this paper. The results of nonlinear static and nonlinear time history analysis of an example high-rise steel moment frame designed by the proposed method are presented and discussed.
