In order to elucidate the leaching behaviour of the herbicide bentazon in soil, soil columns(5cm ID ${\times}$ 34 cm L) were packed with three different soils up to 30 cm height, followed by the treatment of [$^{14}C$]bentazon, and rice plants(Oryza sativa L.) were grown for 9 weeks on these columns, with the columns without growing rice plants as the control for comparison. The amounts of $^{14}C$ activities percolated were about 92% of the originally applied $^{14}C$ irrespective of the physicochemical properties of the soils in the absence of rice plants, whereas $21{\sim}50%$ of the originally applied $^{14}C$ was percolated in the presence of rice plants, suggesting that the amounts of $^{14}C$ leached decreased remarkably in rice-cultivating soils. Bentazon leached faster in soil with higher pH and with lower organic matter content in the presence of growing rice plants. The amounts of $^{14}CO_{2}$ evolved from the soil columns were less than 0.2% of the originally applied $^{14}C$. Smaller amounts of $^{14}C$ were translocated into shoots via roots in soils with higher organic matter content. $^{14}C$ activities distributed into the aqueous phase of the leachate collected from the soil columns increased with leaching period and by rice cultivation, whereas the physico-chemical properties of soils did not exhibit any effect. The amounts of soil-bound residues increased remarkably by cultivating rice plants.
Sulphuric acid (H2SO4) leaching and hydrolysis were experimented for the recovery of titanum dioxide (TiO2) from the water-leached residue followed by soda-roasting spent SCR catalysts. Sulphuric acid leaching of Ti was carried out with leachate concentration (4~8 M) and the others were fixed (temp.: 70 ℃, leaching time: 3 hrs, slurry density: 100 g/L, stirring speed: 500 rpm). For recovering of Ti from the leaching solution, hydrolysis precipitation was conducted at 100 ℃ for 2 hours in various mixing ratio (leached solution:distilled water) of 1:9 to 5:5. The maximum leachability was reached to 95.2 % in 6 M H2SO4 leachate. on the other hand, the leachability of Si decreased dramatically 91.7 to 3.0 % with an increase of H2SO4 concentration. Hydrolysis precipitation of Ti was proceeded with leaching solution of 8 M H2SO4 with the lowest content of Si. The yield of precipitation increased proportionally with a dilution ratio of leaching solution. Moreover, it increased generally by adding 0.2 g TiO2 as a precipitation seed to the diluted leaching solution. Ultimately, 99.8 % of TiO2 can be recovered with the purity of 99.46 % from the 1:9 diluted solution.
The purpose of this study was simply to obtain gold through a microwave-nitric acid experiment of invisible gold concentrate with the use of filter paper. For the purpose, this study conducted a microwave-nitric acid leaching experiment and examined nitric acid concentration. As a result of the experiment, this study discovered that Fe, Te and Ag were completely leached in the leaching solution whereas Au was not determined in all of the nitric acid conditions. The leaching solution was filtered with three filter papers and then these filter papers were analyzed with SEM/EDS. As a result of the EDS analysis, Au was detected in all of the surface and cross-section of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd filter papers. As the three filter papers containing solid-residue were analysed in the lead-fire assay, gold particles were found in all of the nitric acid conditions. In the lead-fire assay, maximum gold(452.50g/t) was recovered when nitric acid concentration was 6M and microwave leaching time was 12mins.
This study was carried out to test the possibility of using an environmentally friendly method of leaching silver concentrate from the Samjo mine. The Samjo mine ore contained minerals such as pyrite, chalcopyrite, galena, arsenopyrite, and sphalerite. The concentrate samples tested with the thiourea solution were roasted at $750^{\circ}C$. The results of different experimental conditions showed that the highest silver leaching rate was obtained when the concentration of thiourea was at 0.8 g with ferric sulfate at 0.425 g and the leaching temperature at $60^{\circ}C$. The Ag leaching rate obtained was 91.5% at a pulp density of 10%. However, in the XRD analysis, peaks of pyrite, galena, and hematite were still found in the leached solid residues in which the Ag leaching rate was the highest. it is expected that the unrecovered silver in the solid residue can be lost.
Domestic gold mine tailings, generally, contain a lot of non-metallic silica and clay minerals. These minerals can be separated from the tailings by various physical separation methods and used as raw materials for cements and ceramic products. In these physical separation procedures, metallic complex sulfides, in which Au and metallic constituents such as Pb, As and Fe were concentrated, were obtained as a by-product. These metallic constituents should be removed or separated from the by-product to extract Au efficiently. In this work, removal and separation processes of Pb, As, and Fe from the by-product were investigated. Pb was removed to under 3% by using alkaline oxidative leaching at the leaching condition of $120^{\circ}C$, 2M NaOH, 100psi $Po_2$, 250r.p.m., 4 wt.% solid and 30 min. leaching time. The leached residue was roasted and separated magnetically to obtain a non-magnetic product contained <0.2% As, <3% Fe and high concentrated Au more than 8,000 ppm.
This paper discusses the development of mixtures for silica fume as a stabilization/solidification agent and a binder for industrial wastewater residue containing organic and heavy metal contaminants. The UCS (unconfined compressive strength) gradually increased to 66.7% as the silica fume content increased to 15%. The leaching of TOC (total organic carbon) and chromium decreased as more OPC (Ordinary Portland Cement) was substituted with the silica fume. When a mixture had 5% silica fume, it retained about 85% TOC, and chromium leached out 0.76 mg-Cr/g-Cr in acidic solution. Also, microstructural studies of the solidified analysis showed that the silica fume caused an inhibition to the ettringite formation which did not contrilbute to setting but coated the cement particles and retarded the setting reactions. The results indicated that the incorporation of silica fume into the cement matrix minimized the detrimental effects of organic materials on the cement hydration reaction and the contaminant leachability.

In this study, the optimal nitration process for selective lithium leaching from powder of a spent battery cell (LiNixCoyMnzO2, LiCoO2) was studied using Taguchi method. The nitration process is a method of selective lithium leaching that involves converting non-lithium nitric compounds into oxides via nitric acid leaching and roasting. The influence of pretreatment temperature, nitric acid concentration, amount of nitric acid, and roasting temperature were evaluated. The signal-to-noise ratio and analysis of variance of the results were determined using L16(44) orthogonal arrays. The findings indicated that the roasting temperature followed by the nitric acid concentration, pretreatment temperature, and amount of nitric acid used had the greatest impact on the lithium leaching ratio. Following detailed experiments, the optimal conditions were found to be 10 h of pretreatment at 700℃ with 2 ml/g of 10 M nitric acid leaching followed by 10 h of roasting at 275℃. Under these conditions, the overall recovery of lithium exceeded 80%. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis of the leaching residue in deionized water after roasting of lithium nitrate and other nitrate compounds was performed. This was done to determine the cause of rapid decrease in lithium leaching rate above a roasting temperature of 400℃. The results confirmed that lithium manganese oxide was formed from lithium nitrate and manganese nitrate at these temperatures, and that it did not leach in deionized water. XRD analysis was also used to confirm the recovery of pure LiNO3 from the solution that was leached during the nitration process. This was carried out by evaporating and concentrating the leached solution through solid-liquid separation.
A study was conducted in Korea on the leaching behavior and possibility of recovery of vanadium and other valuable metals from domestic vanadium titanomagnetite (VTM) by direct acid leaching. In this study, a VTM concentrate containing 0.8% V2O5 was used, and the ratio of magnetite to ilmenite was calculated as 1.9:1 by using the HSC program. The leaching behavior of vanadium from the VTM was similar to that of iron, and it was affected by the concentration of sulfuric acid and temperature. Further, titanium could be leached in the form of TiOSO4 at a temperature higher than 75℃. To improve the leaching efficiency of V, Fe, and Ti in VTM, reductive sulfuric acid and oxidative sulfuric acid leaching were performed. When Na2SO3 was used as a reducing agent, the leaching rate of vanadium was 80% of that in that case of leaching by sulfuric acid. Similarly, the leaching rate of titanium increased from 20% to 50%. When Na2S2O8 was used as an oxidation agent, most of the vanadium was leached, and the main residue found by XRD analysis was ilmenite. In studies on the possibility of recovering valuable metals, the selective extraction of metals is hardly achieved by solvent extraction from oxidation leaching solutions; however, in this study, Cyanex 923, a solvation extractant from reductive leaching solutions, could selectively extract Ti.
The adsorption and leaching of organophosphorus pesticide, EPN (O-ethyl-O-4 -nitrophenyl phenyl phosphonothioate) were investigated in Namwon soil(black volcanic soil), Aewol soil(very dark brown volcanic soil) and Mureung soil(dark brown nonvolcanic soil) in Cheju Island. The residue of EPN was surveyed on coastal environment of Cheju in Aug. 1996. The organic matter of Namwon soil, Aewol soil and Mureung soil was 19.8, 6.2 and 2.4%, respectively. The cation exchange capacity of Namwon soil, Aewol soil and Mureung soil was 24.8, 13.0 and 9.5 meq/100 g, respectively. The Freundlich constant, k value, was 89.4, 26.9 and 9.25 for Namwon soil, Aewol soil and Mureung soil, respectively. The k value of Namwon soil with very high organic matter content and cation exchange capacity was the highest for Aewol soil and Mureung soil. The Freundlich constant, 1/n, show a high correlation with organic matter content, i.e. it is less than unity for organic matter rich soil of Namwon soil and greater than unity for organic matter poor soil of Mureung soil. The leaching of EPN was slower for Namwon soil with high k values, and faster for Mureung soil with low k values. The results of the study was demonstrated the potential of pollution for EPN have little leached into soil environment. EPN was not detected in seawater and sediment in the coastal environment in Cheju Island. EPN used in the farm on tile Cheju island were not residued in the coastal environment.
A recovery process of Ruthenium from waste electronic scrap has been investigated by means of nitric acid leaching as a part of development for scrap pretreatment process to obtaining an optimum conditions for removal of removing various impurities such as Pb, Bi, Zn, Al, Bi, Ag Fe, Co, Zr, Si. From the experiments, 90% of Pb leached with 250 g/l pulp density in 10-15% nitric acid. Leaching behavior of Ba was also similar to that of the Pb, but those of other metal impurities, such as Zn, Al, Bi, Ag, Fe, Co, Zr, showed different behavior, in which the dissolution rate increased as the concentration of nitric acid in solution is increased up to the 10% $HNO_3$ in solution and then it was constant above 10% $HNO_3$ concentrations. Meanwhile, the dissolution of Ru in $HNO_3$ solution was less then 100ppm, and that the total content of Ru in undissolved residue scrap was resulted in an increment of 50%.
