  • This paper presents an operation sequence-based approach for determining machine cell layout in a cellular manufacturing environment. The proposed model considers the sequence of operations in evaluating the intercell and intracell movements. In this paper, design of cellular layout has an objective of minimization of total material flow among facilities, where the total material flow is defined as a weighted sum of both intercell and intracell part movements. The proposed algorithm is developed by using genetic algorithm and can be used to design an optimal cellular layout which can cope with changes of shop floor situation by considering constraints such as the number of machine cells and the number of machines in a machine cell.

  • This paper is motivated by the problem of fitting a group of cuboids into a simplified rotating vessel of the artificial satellite. Here we introduce a combinatorial optimization model which reduces the three-dimensional layout problem with behavioral constraints to a finite enumeration scheme. Moreover, a global combinatorial optimization algorithm is described in detail, which is an improved graph-theoretic heuristic.

  • Variance components models incorporate various random factors in the form of linear models. There are two experimental Layouts for the classification of factors under variance components models: nested classification and crossed classification. We consider two-way variance components models and investigate the effect of experimental Layout on the performance of model selection criteria AIC and BIC. The effect of experimental Layout is studied through a simulation study with various combinations of parameters in a systematic fashion. The simulation study shows differences in performance of model selection methods between the two classification. There is a particular tendency to prefer the smaller model than the true model when the variance component of a nested factor becomes relatively larger than a nesting factor that is persistent even when the sample size is not small.

  • When a comparison is made with respect to the unknown best treatment, Hsu (1984, 1985) proposed the so called multiple comparisons procedures with the best in the analysis of variance model. Applying Hsu's results to the analysis of covariance model, simultaneous confidence intervals for multiple comparisons with the best in a balanced one-way layout with a random covariate are developed and are applied to a real data example.

  • A random effects model of a one-way layout contingency table is developed using a Dirichlet-multinomial distribution. A test statistic, say $T_k$, is suggested for detecting Dirichlet-multinomial departure from a multinomial distribution. It is shown that the $T_k$ test is asymptotically superior to the classical chi-square test based on the asymptotic relative efficiency. This superiority is further evidenced by a Monte Carlo simulation.

  • This paper proposes a method for detecting interactions in a two-way layout with one observation per cell. The identification of interactions in the model is not clear for they are confounding with error terms. The $L_1$-Estimation is robust with respect to a y-direction outlier in linear model so we are able to estimate main effects without affection of interactions, If an observation is classified as an outlier we conclude it contains an interaction. An empirical study compared with a classical method is performed.

  • Usually, domestic training ship's bridge was designed for safe navigation and efficient navigation training. In this paper, we grouped domestic training ship's bridge layouts into three classes such as "the front and the rear-type bridge layout", "the twin deck-type bridge layout", and "the single-type bridge layout" by layout type between main bridge and training bridge. Furthermore, we investigated how to operate navigation training according to the type of bridge layout through the questionnaire, and extracted merits and demerits of each bridge layout in combination of normal operation with navigation training at the same time. We presented new type of training ship's bridge model to improve demerits and to elevate merits.

  • This paper deals with a detailed analysis of CMOS latch up dependancies on the layout and geo-metrical demensions on the mask using same materials and same processes. For this purpose, six different layout models depending upon the N+ / P+ spacing and three different guard ring models have been gesigned, fabricated, and tested. As a result, common emitter current gain, shunt resistance, and holeing current versus N+/P+ spacing have been measured and analyzed experimentally. Also the fact that guard ring is sffective in reducing the latchup possibility has been verified through this study.
