  • The facility layout problem has the goal of locating the different facilities in a floor to achieve the greatest efficiency in producing a product or service. This problem is usually formulated as the quadratic assignment problem(QAP). However, the problem of finding optimal layout is hard and traditional approaches are not computationally feasible. In this paper, a genetic algorithm is presented for obtaining efficient layouts. To test the effectiveness of the algorithm, a set of examples is solved and the results are compared to those from other Known algorithms. The comparison indicates that the proposed method performs well for the classical test problems.

  • Unlike other weapon systems, a naval vessel has unique characteristics in that the vessel itself is a naval unit. In limited space, compartments with various objectives and characteristics need to be arranged, so that vessel performance is maximized. This paper studied a compartment arrangement algorithm that considers activity relationships among compartments and survivability of a vessel. Based on the study, a compartment arrangement application is developed that can generate various layout alternatives swiftly. The application developed in this study aims at automating a two dimensional compartment layout problem. A combinatorial optimization is performed with the differential evolution algorithm to achieve the optimized layout.

어댑티드 회로 배치 유전자 알고리즘의 설계와 구현 (Design and Implementation of a Adapted Genetic Algorithm for Circuit Placement)

  • Placement is a very important step in the VLSI physical design process. It is the problem of placing circuit modules to optimize the circuit performance and reliability of the circuit. It is used at the layout level to find strongly connected components that can be placed together in order to minimize the layout area and propagation delay. The most popular algorithms for circuit placement include the cluster growth, simulated annealing, integer linear programming and genetic algorithm. In this paper we propose a adapted genetic algorithm searching solution space for the placement problem, and then compare it with simulated annealing and genetic algorithm by analyzing the results of each implementation. As a result, it was found that the adaptive genetic algorithm approaches the optimal solution more effectively than the simulated annealing and genetic algorithm.

  • CAD(Computer-Aided Design)에서의 분할(partitioning)은 기능의 최적화를 위해 대상의 그룹화(grouping)로 레이아웃(layout)에 면적과 전파지연 최소화를 위해 함께 위치할 소자를 결정하는 문제 또는 스케쥴링이나 유닛 선택을 위한 HLS(high level synthesis)에서의 변수나 연산에 대한 집단화 (clustering) 문제들을 포함하여 분할 문제에서 해를 얻기 위해 Kernighan-Lin 알고리즘 Fiduccia Mattheyses heuristic, 시뮬레이티드 어닐링(simulated annealing)등의 방식이 이용된다. 본 논문에서는 회로 분할 문제에 대하여 유전 알고리즘(GA; genetic algorithm)을 이용한 해 공간 탐색(soultion space search)방식을 제안하였으며, 제안한 방식을 시뮬레이티드 어닐링 방식과 비교, 분석하였다.

  • 최근 집적도의 증가와 더불어 집적회로 제작과 점검을 자동화하기 위하여 영상처리방법을 이용한 집적회로의 인식 알고리듬이 개발되고 있다. 집적회로를 인식하기 위해서는 프레임 영상으로 부터 특징을 얻고 이것으로써 칩내의 모든 프레임 영상을 정합하여야한다. 본 논문은 layout 정보를 나타내는 꼭지점들의 위치와 형태를 직선화 알고리듬을 이용하여 추출한다. 부분적으로 겹치는 이웃 프레임들을 얻어진 꼭지점의 위치와 형태를 특징으로 하여 정합함으로써 꼭지점의 전체적 좌표와 형태를 추출한다.

  • For performance and stability of a synchronized system, we need an efficient Clock Tree Synthesis(CTS) methodology to design clock distribution networks. In a system-on-a-chip(SOC) design environment, CTS effectively distributes clock signals from clock sources to synchronized points on layout design. In this paper, we suggest the pre-layout analysis of the clock network including gated clock, multiple clock, and test mode CTS optimization. This analysis can help to avoid design failure with potential CTS problems from logic designers and supply layout constraints so as to get an optimal clock distribution network. Our new design flow including pre-layout CTS analysis and structural violation checking also contributes to reduce design time significantly.

  • With the success of flexible manufacturing systems(FMSs), flexible assembly systems(FASs) have been developed to automatic factories further. As in a cellular FMS, a celluar FAS is considered as the most flexible and feasible assembly systems configuration. This paper presents a method for the integrated layout design in cellular FASs. Unlike the traditional paper, this paper deals with the formation of cells and the layout of cells for jobs with operation times on different machines. The procedure in this paper consists of two distinct phases. The first phase presents machine arrangement in a double rows flowline. cell formation not to allow intercellular movements, and integrated layout design in cellular FASs considering the characteristics of FAS, layout, and production factors This phase uses older optimal algorithm. The second phase proposes to balance the system with an objective of reducing the degree of workload deviation in the cells. Simulated annealing method is used to balance the system. This phase also shows the integrated layout design in cellular FASs with the cost less than total cost of the first phase.

Multi-station Fixture Layout Design Using Simulated Annealing

  • Automotive and aircraft assembly process rely on fixtures to support and coordinate parts and subassemblies. Fixture layout in multi-station panel assemblies has a direct dimensional effect on final products and thus presents a quality problem. This paper describes a methodology for fixture layout design in multi -station assembly processes. An optimal fixture layout improves the robustness of a fixture system against environmental noises, reduces product variability, and eventually leads to manufacturing cost reduction. One of the difficulties raised by multi-station fixture layout design is the overwhelmingly large number of design alternatives. This makes it difficult to find a global optimality and, if an inefficient algorithm is used, may require prohibitive computing time. In this paper, simulated annealing is adopted and appropriate parameters are selected to find good fixture layouts. A four-station assembly process for a sport utility vehicle (SUV) side frame is used throughout the paper to illustrate the efficiency and effectiveness of this methodology.

  • In the future, the sorting machines will be taken charge of the most part of the letter sorting operations. At present, in order to deliver the sorted letters by the next day, many labors are intensively committed in the letter sorting operations. This research analyzes the problem of the facilities layout in registry department of mail center. It presents an improved design of facilities layout in comparison with several alternatives including the current layout using AutoCAD and FactoryCAD. It presents the optimized facilities layout using the algorithm which is embedded in the FactoryOPT. By the result of this research, we expect that the productivity of sorting letter will be improved and the related total labor cost will be minimized.

  • A study on theergonomic design of the automated ship's bridge and console layout was carried out through this paper. The goal of this study is to find out the effective and ergonomic optimal design solutions of bridge layout hence to reduce the duty officier's workload and increase the safety of navigation. The conventional bridge layouts and modernized Integrated bridge layouts were compared using several factors. To use human factors, an ergonomic control panel layout system based on constraint satisfaction algorithm wa squoted. And the integrated ergonomic bridge layout was converged and applied to the redesign of the navigational console layout.
