Shield tunnels are widely used throughout the world. However, their seismic performance has not been well studied. This paper focuses on the seismic response of a large scale model tunnel in compacted sand. A 9.3 m long, 3.7 m wide and 2.5 m high rigid box was filled with sand so as to simulate the sandy soil surrounding the tunnel. The setup was excited on a large-scale shake table. The model tunnel used was a 1:8 scaled model with a cross-sectional diameter of 900 mm. The effective shock absorbing layer (SAL) on the seismic response of the model tunnel was also investigated. The thickness of the tunnel lining is 60 mm. The earthquake motion recorded from the Kobe earthquake waves was used. The ground motions were scaled to have the same peak accelerations. A total of three peak accelerations were considered (i.e., 0.1 g, 0.2 g and 0.4 g). During the tests, the strain, acceleration and soil pressure on the surface of the tunnel were measured. In order to investigate the effect of shock absorbing layer on the dynamic response of the sand- tunnel system, two tunnel models were set up, one with and one without the shock absorbing layer of foam board were used. The results shows the longitudinal direction acceleration of the model tunnel with a shock absorbing layer were lower than those of model tunnel without the shock absorbing layer, Which indicates that the shock absorbing layer has a beneficial effect on the acceleration reduction. In addition, the shock absorbing layer has influence on the hoop strain and earth pressure of the model tunnel, this the effect of shock absorbing layer to the model tunnel will be discussed in the paper.
Open-mode cracks could be commonly observed in layered rocks. A concept model is firstly used to explore the mechanism of the vertical cracks (VCs) in the top layer. Then the crack behaviour of the two-layer model is simulated based on a cohesive zone model (CZM) for layer interfaces and a plastic-damage model for rocks. The model indicates that the tensile stress normal to the VCs changes to compression if the crack spacing to layer thickness ratio is lower than a threshold. The results indicate that there is a threshold for interfacial shear strength that controls the crack patterns of the layered system. If the shear strength is lower than the threshold, the top layer is meshed by the VCs and interfacial cracks (ICs). When the shear strength is higher than the threshold, the top layer is meshed by the VCs and parallel cracks (PCs). If the shear strength is comparative to the threshold, a combining pattern of VCs, PCs and ICs for the top layer can be formed. The evolutions of stress distribution in the crack-bound block indicate that the ICs and PCs can reduce the load transferred for the substrate layer, and thus leads to a crack saturation state.
This article investigates the problem of distributed channel selection in opportunistic spectrum access networks from a perspective of interference minimization. The traditional physical (PHY)-layer interference model is for information theoretic analysis. When practical multiple access mechanisms are considered, the recently developed binary medium access control (MAC)-layer interference model in the previous work is more useful, in which the experienced interference of a user is defined as the number of competing users. However, the binary model is not accurate in mathematics analysis with poor achievable performance. Therefore, we propose a real-valued one called stochastic MAC-layer interference model, where the utility of a player is defined as a function of the aggregate weight of the stochastic interference of competing neighbors. Then, the distributed channel selection problem in the stochastic MAC-layer interference model is formulated as a weighted stochastic MAC-layer interference minimization game and we proved that the game is an exact potential game which exists one pure strategy Nash equilibrium point at least. By using the proposed stochastic learning-automata based uncoupled algorithm with heterogeneous learning parameter (SLA-H), we can achieve suboptimal convergence averagely and this result can be verified in the simulation. Moreover, the simulated results also prove that the proposed stochastic model can achieve higher throughput performance and faster convergence behavior than the binary one.

In this paper, a model for two-layered video traffic is proposed. The performance analysis of the proposed model and the effects of two-layer coding scehemes in ATM networks are also studied. ATM-based networks give the possibility to support image codingat variable bit rate(VBR). Two layer coding is one of the very promising methods among many proposed methods to compensate the cell loss, the major drawback in ATM networks. From the experimental data of the 2-layer coded video traffics, it is observed that traffic patterns of base layer and enhanced layer are highly correlate to each other, when constant image quality is kept. With this observation, coded two layered video traffic can be modeled as 2-dimensional Markov chain. The model well fit the real experimental data. The model was used for the analysis of the performance of statistical multiplexer with priorites in ATM networks.
This study presents a rockfall impact analysis of a typical roadway. Dynamic finite element analyses using ANSYS AUTODYN are conducted to determine the effect of the drop heights (5 m, 10 m) on the damage to a roadway model. The Rockfall is modeled as a spherical shape with a weight of 400 kg, and each drop height is converted to a corresponding impact velocity to save computational time. The roadway model is comprised of an asphalt layer, base layer, sub-base layer, and sub-grade layer. In this paper, the asphalt is modeled using a linear elastic model. The base layer, sub-base layer, and sub-grade layer are modeled using a Mohr-Coulomb model. From the analyses, the effects of the drop height on the damages and stresses are examined and discussed.
As further Studies on 4th generation mobile telecommunication are progressed, the importance of a Cross-Layer is being increased. However, it has focused on coordination model only between MAC layer and PHY layer. It is necessary to expand into II' layer and upper layers. In this paper, we introduce a Cross-layer optimization which can be used to transmit video data with effect by managing resources among layers. It can gives further more adaptive method to solve QoS model problem than single layer.

This paper proposes a routing model based on the HVHD for four-layer routing problems. Differing from the HVHV and HVHH models, the proposed HVHD model permits diagonal routing on the fourth laye rwith a grid of 45.deg., 90.deg. and 135.deg. directions. The developed algorithm which uses a channel-graph including weights routes a layer using diagonal model and the othe rthree layers using HVH model. Applications to several benchmark examples verify that approximately 10~25 percent reduction of channel density can be achieved compared to the conventional four-layer channel routing algorithms.

In this paper, we present the simulation of the heterojunction bipolar transistor with different Emitter-Base junction structures. Our simulation results include effect of setback and graded layer. We prove the emitter efficiency's improvement through setback and graded layer. In 1995, the analytical equations of electric field, electrostatic potential, and junction capacitance for abrupt and linearly graded heterojunctions with or without a setback layer was derived. But setback layer and linearly graded layer's recombination current was considered numerically. Later, recombination current model included setback layer and graded layer will be proposed. New recombination current model also wile include abrupt heterojunction's recombination current model. In this paper, the material parameters of the heterojunction bipolar transistor with different Emitter-Base junction structures is introduced.
The settlement, bearing capacity, axial force, and skin friction responses of pervious and impervious concrete piles in silty and sandy underlying layer foundations and of pervious concrete piles in model tests were determined. The results showed that pervious concrete piles can exhibit high strengths, provide drainage paths and thus reduce foundation consolidation time. Increasing the soil layer thickness and pile length could eliminate the bearing capacity difference of pervious piles in a foundation with a silty underlying layer. The pervious concrete piles in the sandy underlying layer were more efficacious than those in the silty underlying layer because the sandy underlying layer can provide more bearing capacity than the silty underlying layer. The results indicated that the performances of the pervious concrete piles in the sand and silt foundations differed. The pervious concrete piles functioned as floating piles in the underlying layer with a lower bearing capacity and as end-bearing piles in the underlying layer with a higher bearing capacity.
