In this study, both experimental and analytical study for behavior of the existing composite steel box girder bridges, constructed along with the procedure of continuous placing slab, are conducted to establish the validity of the proposed model. The layer approach is adopted to determine the equilibrium condition in a section to consider the different material properties and concrete cracking across the sectional depth, and the beam element stiffness is constructed on the basis of the assumed displacement field formulation and the 3-points Gaussian Integration. In addition, the effects of creep and shrinkage of concrete for time-dependent behavior of the bridge are taken into consideration. Finally, both analytical and experimental results are compared.

This paper deals with the prediction of behavior of composite girder bridges according to the placing sequences of concrete deck. Based on a degenerate kernel of compliance function in the form of Dirichlet series, the time-dependent behaviors of bridges are simulated, and the layer approach is adopted to determine the equilibrium condition in a section. The variation of bending moments along the bridge length caused by the slab casting sequence is reviewed and correlation studies between section types and placing sequences are conducted with the objective to establish the validity of the continuous placing of concrete deck on the closed steel box-girder which is broadly used in practice.

HTTP-based adaptive streaming (HAS) has recently been widely deployed on the Internet. In the HAS system, a video content is encoded at multiple bitrates and the encoded video content is segmented into small parts of fixed durations. The HAS client requests a video segment and stores it in the playout buffer. The rate adaptation algorithm employed in HAS clients dynamically determines the video bitrate depending on the time-varying bandwidth. Many studies have shown that an efficient rate adaptation algorithm is critical to ensuring quality-of-experience in HAS systems. However, existing algorithms have problems estimating the network bandwidth because bandwidth estimation is performed on the client-side application stack. Without the help of transport layer protocols, it is difficult to achieve accurate bandwidth estimation due to the inherent segment-based transmission of the HAS. In this paper, we propose an alternative approach that utilizes the playout buffer occupancy rather than using bandwidth estimates obtained from the application layer. We start with a queueing analysis of the playout buffer. Then, we present a buffer-aware rate adaptation algorithm that is solely based on the mean buffer occupancy. Our simulation results show that compared to conventional algorithms, the proposed algorithm achieves very smooth video quality while delivering a similar average video bitrate.

This paper describes a two-step approach for the electrochemical deposition of CdZnS thin films on the polycrystalline Au electrode. Initially, an Au substrate is electrochemically modified with a sulfur layer. In the second step, the layer is electroreduced to $S^{2-}$ in the electrolyte dosed with the requisite amount of $Cd^{2+}$ and $Zn^{2+}$ ions to generate CdZnS films in situ. This approach was validated using a combination of linear sweep voltammetry and electrochemical quartz crystal microgravimetry. Thus synthesized CdZnS thin films have different composition depending on the composition of electrolytes. CdZnS thin films are characterized by energy-dispersive X-ray analysis and Raman spectroscopy.
This paper deals with the development of simplified methods to predict the creep deformation of reinforced concrete beams. The layer approach based on a degenerate kernel of compliance function in form of Dirichlet series is mentioned and a simplified analytical method derived from the equilibrium equations and compatibility conditions is proposed to overcome the sophisticated calculation procedures in the classical creep analysis. Correlation studies between analytical and experimental results and design codes are conducted with the objective to establish the validity of the proposed methods. Besides, various parameter studies are conducted with the objective to identify the effects of cracking, steel ratio and sectional shape in the creep deformation and the obtained results are discussed.

Typical base isolated buildings are designed so that the superstructure remains elastic in design-level earthquakes, though the isolation layer is often quite nonlinear using, e.g., hysteretic elements such as lead-rubber bearings and friction pendulum bearings. Similarly, other well-performing structural control systems keep the structure within the linear range except during the most extreme of excitations. Design optimization of these isolators or other structural control systems requires computationally-expensive response simulations of the (mostly or fully) linear structural system with the nonlinear structural control devices. Standard nonlinear structural analysis algorithms ignore the localized nature of these nonlinearities when computing responses. This paper proposes an approach for the computationally-efficient optimal design of passive isolators by extending a methodology previously developed by the authors for accelerating the response calculation of mostly linear systems with local features (linear or nonlinear, deterministic or random). The methodology is explained and applied to a numerical example of a base isolated building with a hysteretic isolation layer. The computational efficiency of the proposed approach is shown to be significant for this simple problem, and is expected to be even more dramatic for more complex systems.

This study analyzes the relative importance of the introducing factors for the critical success factors in the implementation stage of the lifecycle of ERP system using Delphi technique and Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP). In the 1st layer of the hierarchy, technical factor is evaluated as the most important factor among organizational, technical, and supplier factors. In the 2nd layer, choosing a proper ERP package is evaluated as the most important factor within 15 factors followed by process-oriented approach, technical suitability, minimized customization, integration and association of system with trading parter, association with legacy systems, and support and involvement of top management. As a result of this analysis enterprise should choose an ERP package that is suitable to its business environment, and make the best use of(take full advantage of) best practice that ERP package provides to optimize the existing business procedure or process(to approach the existing business procedure or process). This study also shows the range of customization of the features provided by the ERP package should be minimized.
The relationships among multi-dimensional data (such as medical examination data) with ambiguity and variation are difficult to explore. The traditional approach to building a data classification system requires the formulation of rules by which the input data can be analyzed. The formulation of such rules is very difficult with large sets of input data. This paper first describes two classification approaches using back-propagation (BP) neural network and Mahalanobis distance (MD) classifier, and then proposes two classification approaches for multi-dimensional feature selection. The first one proposed is a feature selection procedure from the trained back-propagation (BP) neural network. The basic idea of this procedure is to compare the multiplication weights between input and hidden layer and hidden and output layer. In order to simplify the structure, only the multiplication weights of large absolute values are used. The second approach is Mahalanobis-Taguchi system (MTS) originally suggested by Dr. Taguchi. The MTS performs Taguchi's fractional factorial design based on the Mahalanobis distance as a performance metric. We combine the automatic thresholding with MD: it can deal with a reduced model, which is the focus of this paper In this work, two case studies will be used as examples to compare and discuss the complete and reduced models employing BP neural network and MD classifier. The implementation results show that proposed approaches are effective and powerful for the classification.

In this paper, the problem of interfacial stresses in steel beams strengthened with a fiber reinforced polymer plates is analyzed using linear elastic theory. The analysis is based on the deformation compatibility approach developed by Tounsi (2006) where both the shear and normal stresses are assumed to be invariant across the adhesive layer thickness. The analysis provides efficient calculations for both shear and normal interfacial stresses in steel beams strengthened with composite plates, and accounts for various effects of Poisson's ratio and Young's modulus of adhesive. Such interfacial stresses play a fundamental role in the mechanics of plated beams, because they can produce a sudden and premature failure. The analysis is based on equilibrium and deformations compatibility approach developed by Tounsi (2006). In the present theoretical analysis, the adherend shear deformations are taken into account by assuming a parabolic shear stress through the thickness of both the steel beam and bonded plate. The paper is concluded with a summary and recommendations for the design of the strengthened beam.

This paper addresses the efficiency of thermal insulation layers applied to protect structural elements strengthened by fiber-reinforced polymers (FRP) in the case of fire event. The paper presents numerical modeling and nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete (RC) columns externally strengthened by FRP and protected by thermal insulation layers when subjected to elevated temperature specified by standard fire tests, in order to predict their residual capacity and fire endurance. The adopted numerical approach uses commercial software includes heat transfer, variation of thermal and mechanical properties of concrete, steel reinforcement, FRP and insulation material with elevated temperature. The numerical results show good agreement with published results of full-scale fire tests. A parametric study was conducted to investigate the influence of several variables on the structural response and residual capacity of insulated FRP-confined columns loaded by service loads when exposed to fire. The residual capacity of FRP-confined RC column was affected by concrete grade and insulation material and was shown to improve substantially by increasing the concrete cover and insulation layer thickness. By increasing the VG insulation layer thickness 15, 32, 44, 57 mm, the loss in column capacity after 5 hours of fire was 30%, 13%, 7% and 5%, respectively. The obtained results demonstrate the validity of the presented approach for estimation of fire endurance and residual strength, as an alternative for fire testing, and for design of fire protection layers for FRP-confined RC columns.
