Commercially pure titanium (CP Ti) and Ti-6Al-4V alloys have been widely used for biomedical applications. However, the use of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy in biomaterial is then a subject of controversy because aluminum ions and vanadium oxide have potential detrimental influence on the human body due to vanadium and aluminum. Hence, recent works showed that the synthesis of new Ti-based alloys for implant application involves more biocompatible metallic alloying element, such as, Nb, Hf, Zr and Mo. In particular, Nb and Hf are one of the most effective Ti ${\beta}-stabilizer$ and reducing the elastic modulus. Plasma electrolyte oxidation (PEO) is known as excellent method in the biocompatibility of biomaterial due to quickly coating time and controlled coating condition. The anodized oxide layer and diameter modulation of Ti alloys can be obtained function of improvement of cell adhesion. Manganese(Mn) plays very important roles in essential for normal growth and metabolism of skeletal tissue in vertebrates and can be detected as minor constituents in teeth and bone. Radio frequency(RF) magnetron sputtering in the various PVD methods has high deposition rates, high-purity films, extremely high adhesion of films, and excellent uniform layers for depositing a wide range of materials, including metals, alloys and ceramics like a hydroxyapatite. The aim of this study is to research the Mn coatings on the micro-pore formed Ti-29Nb-xHf alloys by RF-magnetron sputtering for dental applications. Ti-29Nb-xHf (x= 0, 3, 7 and 15wt%, mass fraction) alloys were prepared Ti-29Nb-xHf alloys of containing Hf up from 0 wt% to 15 wt% were melted by using a vacuum furnace. Ti-29Nb-xHf alloys were homogenized for 2 hr at $1050^{\circ}C$. Each alloy was anodized in solution containing typically 0.15 M calcium acetate monohydrate + 0.02 M calcium glycerophosphate at room temperature. A direct current power source was used for the process of anodization. Anodized alloys was prepared using 270V~300V anodization voltage at room. Mn coatings was produced by RF-magnetron sputtering system. RF power of 100W was applied to the target for 1h at room temperature. The microstructure, phase and composition of Mn coated oxide surface of Ti-29Nb-xHf alloys were examined by FE-SEM, EDS, and XRD.

Recently efforts are underway to analyze the impacts of anthropogenic $CO_2$ on the global environments and the amount of oceanic uptake increase. The East Sea is now viewed as a miniature ocean because its circulation pattern is similar to the ocean conveyer belt. The biological pump of the East Sea is a vital component to understand the carbon cycle quantitatively. In this paper, the biological pump is estimated utilizing the stoichiometric ratio between carbon and phosphorus. A simple phosphate budget model is constructed based on the seawater and dissolved oxygen box model that can simulate the recent structural change in deep water circulation of the East Sea. A model run from you 1952 to 2040 shows the steadily intensifying biological pump. Currently it exports about 0.016 Pg C yr$^{-1}$ , which corresponds to 35% of the carbon introduced into the seawater by the air-sea exchange. An increased oxygen supply to the central water mass as a result of from the transition in the ventilation system might enhance the remineralization of sinking biogenic particles. This should strengthen the upward nutrient flux into the surface layer. Consequently, the biological sequestration of anthropogenic carbon is expected to increase with time. The estimated biological uptake of the anthropogenic carbon in the East Sea since the Industrial Revolution is estimated as 0.025 Pg C.

In an attempt to develop a biological control agent against mycotoxigenic Fusarium species, we isolated Bacillus amyloliquefaciens strain DA12 from soil and explored its antimicrobial activities. DA12 was active against the growth of mycotoxigenic F. asiaticum, F. graminearum, F. proliferatum, and F. verticillioides both in vitro and in planta (maize). Further screening using dual culture extended the activity range of strain DA12 against other fungal pathogens including Botrytis cinerea, Colletotrichum coccodes, Endothia parasitica, Fusarium oxysporum, Raffaelea quercus-mongolicae, and Rhizoctonia solani. The butanol extract of the culture filtrate of B. amyloliquefaciens DA12 highly inhibited the germination of F. graminearum macroconidia with inhibition rate 83% at a concentration of $31.3{\mu}g/ml$ and 100% at a concentration of $250{\mu}g/ml$. The antifungal metabolite from the butanol extract was identified as iturin A by thin layer chromatography-bioautography. In addition, volatile organic compounds produced by DA12 were able to inhibit mycelial growth of various phytopathogenic fungi. The volatile compounds were identified as 2-heptanone, 5-methyl heptanone and 6-methyl heptanone by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. These results indicate that the antagonistic activity of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens DA12 was attributable to iturin A and volatile heptanones, and the strain could be used as a biocontrol agent to reduce the development of Fusarium diseases and mycotoxin contamination of crops.
This research was carried out to get the basic information on the current situation of personal computer utilization for poultry farm management, and the results obtained could be used in developing of the software system for the poultry farm management. Survey method by interview and mail was adopted to carry out the research, and the total number of data used to statistical analyses was k6 poultry farmers. 1. The ratio of the poultry farmers who had the personal computer(P/C) was about 25%, and the most of the layer farmers from age 30 to 40 who manage the flock size 20,000 or above had the P/C. 2. About 70% of the farmers who had P/C have bought the system after 1993, and 83% of those farmers had the P/C-486 or above level system. They bought the P/C with intent to apply it to farm management(39%) and education for children(31%). 3. About 50% of the farmers who had P/C obtained the relevant knowledge for operating computer system by themselves, and the 33% of the P/C-possessed farmers used P/C for word-processor. 4. About 35% of the farmers who had P/C applied their system to analyse the management analyses, and the sarne ratio of the farmers answered that they didn't apply the system to their farm management. 5. About 25% of the farmers who had P/C used package software, and the company which installed the automated cage system offered the software. 6. Most of the farmers considered the computerization of the farm management positively, and they answered that they will apply P/C to their management actively from now on. 7. About 56% of the farmers didn't think that they had sufficient knowledge for operating computer system, and a quarter of them pointed that the difficulty of the buying software for poultry farm management was the most biggest problem to spread out the computerization in the poultry farm. 8. Most of the poultry farmers didn't buy P/C because they didn't have the relevant knowledge for computer system, but they wanted to learn basic knowledge for computer, and they had the intention to apply computer to their management positively. In order to expand the computerization for poultry farm management, appropriate education system for the farmers from age 30 to 40 who manage the flock size 20,000 or above and the development of the software that could be applied to poultry farm management on the spot efficiently should be made.
Gill epithelia of normal rainbow trout fingerlings and abnormal ones suffering bacterial gill disease by experimental infection were examined by transmitting electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). TEM observations revealed that Flavobacterium branchiophila consisted of slender rods measuring 0.5 by 5 to $8{\mu}m$, and they had which were long, thin, flexible filaments measuring approximately 4 nm by $1{\mu}m$, and packed together to organize into bundles. Morphological alterations of the diseased epithelia started at hypertrophy of the lamellar epithelium. F branchiophila attached to the gill surface of infected fish through pili with a regular distance, and did not invade into gill tissue. In SEM observations, normal surface ultrastructure of epithelial cell in the outermost layer were characterized by a typical labyrinth-like structure branching and anastomosing microridges on the cell surface. Hyperplastic lesions in experimentally infected gill were most serious at near the tips. Each filament exhibited a club-like, and fusion between the filaments was sometimes observed at their tips. On the surface of gill filaments, thread-like bacterial cells attached and were entangled. The bacterial cells almost covered the surface. After immersion in 5 % NaCl, the cell of F branchiophila, however, appeared to be indeterminate shape.
A study was conducted to evaluate the weed population as affected by repeated application of fertilizers for 15 years (nonfertilized, PK, NK, NPK, NPK+Compost, NPK+Straw and NPK+lime). Alopecurus aequalis authority did not grow at all without P application and lime reduced the population of A. aequalis. Total number of weeds were the largest at 5-10cm soil layer and increased by application of compost and straw. Monochoria vaginalis dominated in NPK+compost and NP plot. Scirpus hotarui dominated in NPK+straw. Both Eleocharis kuroguwai and Potamogeton distinctus dominated in nonfertilized plot. Numbers of M. vaginalis and S. hotarui were larger low pH 6 while that of E. kuroguwai and P. distinctus at pH 6 to pH 7. Incidence of M. vaginalis and S. hotorui was great at pH's lower than 6, while E. kuroguwai and P. distinctus favored pH's ranging from 6 to 7.
This study was carried out to exploit and utilize American sycamore (Platanus occidentalis) and poplar grown in Korea as veneer species for plywood manufacture. At this study to save the imported lauan logs and dollars, the effects affecting to the properties of plywood constructed by sycamore, poplar and lauan veneers were studied. Important items dealt with this study were dry and wet shear strength, moisture content, and specific gravities By the results and discussion it may be summarized as followings. 1) Sycamore core lauan plywood (A-II type) was shown best dry shear strength, and the next were all lauan veneer plywood (A-I type), poplar core lauan plywood (B-I type), lauan core sycamore plywood (A-III type) in order. There are no differences between dry shear strength of A-II type and A-I type, A-II type and B-I type plywood. 2) Wet shear strength showed the same order with dry shear strength. A-II type plywood showed best wet shear strength and it showed more difference than other plwoods. A-I type, B-I type and A-III type plywood were all very good without significant difference in wet shear strength. 3) B-I type plywood showed highest moisture content of all type plywood and the next were all sycamore(A-IV type) all poplar plywood (B-III type), A-III type, B-II type, A-II type pllywood in order. Generally high moisture content showed when two or three veneers were same species in the three layer plywood. 4) A-III type plywood showed highest specific gravity of all and the next was A-IV type plywood without a difference to A-I type plywood on the whole. plywoods constructed by lauan and sycamore were shown high specific gravities and the next was lauan, sycamore and poplar, lauan and poplar. It seemed to be that connected wi th the specific gravity of veneer itself in different species. 5) The plywood manufactured by extension of potato flour is not only superior but also profitable in the price aspect than the plywood manufactured by extension of wheat flour.
This paper investigates the dependence of a-Si:H/c-Si passivation and heterojunction solar cell performances on various cleaning processes of silicon wafers. It is observed that the passivation quality of a-Si:H thin-films on c-Si wafers depends highly on the initial H-termination properties of the wafer surface. The effective minority carrier lifetime (MCLT) of highly H-terminated wafer is beneficial for obtaining high quality passivation of a-Si:H/c-Si. The wafers passivated by p(n)-doped a-Si:H layers have low MCLT regardless of the initial H-termination quality. On the other hand, the MCLT of wafers incorporating intrinsic (i) a-Si:H as a passivation layer shows sensitive variation with initial cleaning and H-termination schemes. By applying the improved cleaning processes, we can obtain an MCLT of $100{\mu}sec$ after H-termination and above $600{\mu}sec$ after i a-Si:H thin film deposition. By adapting improved cleaning processes and by improving passivation and doped layers, we can fabricate a-Si:H/c-Si heterojunction solar cells with an active area conversion efficiency of 18.42%, which cells have an open circuit voltage of 0.670V, short circuit current of $37.31\;mA/cm^2$ and fill factor of 0.7374. These cells show more than 20% pseudo efficiency measured by Suns-$V_{oc}$ with an elimination of series resistance.
Microstructures and chemical compositions of 24 bronze mirrors recovered from the Korean peninsula were examined using the scanning electron microscope equipped with the energy dispersive spectrometer in an effort to characterize the treatments applied on their surface. Their provenance and chronology are mostly unspecified except for two objects from a Koryo burial site. In antiquity the surface of bronze mirrors was frequently finished by mere polishing when their tin content was high enough to guarantee the required reflectivity. In many cases, however, their surface was given a special treatment. The most typical treatment was to coat the surface with tin in two different processes referred to as wipe-tinning and amalgam-tinning. In wipe-tinning only tin was used, but in amalgam-tinning tin and mercury were used together. The surface was often coated with mercury in a process known as mercury-polishing. The present mirrors showed that all these techniques were in fact practiced, not only on the reflective surface but, in some cases, on the decorative surface. The detection of mercury played a crucial role in the assessment of a specific technique applied in each mirror. Mercury often remained in the substrate in the form of sulfide and thereby allowed the method of surface treatment to be estimated even when the coated layer was completely lost. The future study is expected to uncover the regional and temporal variation of the surface treatments to the better understanding of bronze mirrors with respect to provenance and chronology.

This research was aimed at evaluating the effects of natural antioxidants on lipid oxidation and sensory quality in cooked, chill- stored and reheated Wanjajun prepared with pork meat (short shank). Sage (SA) and combinations of herbs; basil/mints (BM), rosemary/parsley/thyme (RPT) were used as sources of antioxidants. The products were pan-fried in a medium layer of soybean oil and then stored in a refrigerator at 3$^{\circ}C$ for 8 days after rapid chilling. The process of heat treatment of Wanjajun caused changes in the chemical composition of products and simultaneously, thermal oxidative reaction was initiated. During storage of products in a refrigerator, further hydrolytic and oxidative processes in the lipid extraction were progressed. Acid value was increased, peroxides and malonaldehyde formation gradually were increased during cool storage. Addition of garlic, sage and combinations of herbs retarded the process of oxidation. Wanjajun made with addition of SA and RPT showed good quality in antioxidative potential after 8 days of storage. The sensory effect of herbs on undesirable warmed-over flavor was in order of : SA>RPT>BM.
