  • The purpose of this study was to clarify spatial composition of the staffs at nursing homes for the elderly with dementia. For this, the data was taken from the staffs in 2 nursing homes in Tokyo by the questionnaire from December4 to 28 in 2004. Replicated MDS (Multi-dimensional Scaling) was employed for data analysis. The results of the study were following. Staffs perceived nursing home by four spatial compositions; facility spaces as like sanitation room, laundry, bathroom, washroom, washbowl, social interaction spaces as like training room, inner court/balcony, living room, staff related spaces as like room for staff, treatment room, fundamental living spaces as like bedroom, dining room. According to two-dimensional perceptual map, sanitation room was wanted near by laundry, treatment room was wanted near by room for staff, bedroom was wanted near by dining room, and training room, living room were wanted near by inner court/balcony. On the other hand, washbowl and washroom were desired somewhere near by every spaces. Therefore, simple shaped washbowls are desired to install in dining room, living room, hallways. And sanitation room and laundry were desired somewhere remote by dining room, bedroom, and living room. Responding upper results, it is recommended planning for visual and sense of smell isolation in case of having difficulty in floor structure and circulation.

  • In Korean apartment housing, balcony is semi-outdoor space for storage and drying laundry. Recently, this semi-outdoor balcony space has been merged into indoor living space with the legal permission of balcony extension. It results in disappearance of the original function of balcony in apartment housing. This study attempts to propose better utilization of balcony extension by analyzing how balcony has been extended and used, and what residents' needs are. This study asks 400 housewives living in apartment housing in Jangyu new urban area, Kyungnam. Findings are : 1) Balcony extensions are carried out in a living room, a large bedroom and a small bedroom. Most extensions are made for enlarging adjacent indoor living space; 2) Original balcony that is not extended is used for drying laundry, resting, flower pot, storing, and kid's playing; 3) The residents recognize that problems of balcony extension are the decreased heating efficiency, the reduced soundproofing effect, the loss of spare housework space, and the disappearance of buffer between indoor and outdoor space; 4) Many residents want to extend their balcony space of a small bedroom and a large bedroom and to keep the balcony space of a kitchen-dining room and a master bedroom as they are.

  • An Apartment Veranda is a transitive space which is being used for many different purpose. A Rear Veranda which is connected to the kitchen is an important space for the housekeeping work and it should be planned carefully to reflect the rational and functional designs. Therefore the objective of this research is to suggest a systematic basis for the practical space planning of the Rear veranda that meets the varied needs of consumers by examining its usage pattern through the analysis of the apartment occupant's behavior pattern stored item the degree of satisfaction and consumer requirements. The research was conducted mainly on apartments built after 1990. The following are the conclusions from the research : 1. Most of the research respondents were aware of the absolute need for the Rear veranda. But they expressed dissatisfaction with the space usage. This indicates that the Rear Veranda planning does not reflect the functionality of the space and concentrates on the idea of providing consumers a service space based on the size of the apartment instead. 2. Although the Rear veranda is used as the multipurpose housework space it is mainly used as the laundry and storage space. This shows a big deviation from the concept of the utility space. Because the behavior pattern associated with the Rear Veranda is largely influenced by the traditional life pattern the development of the Rear Veranda as an exclusive space for the housekeeping work. 3. According to a high frequency of the storage of the laundry related item in the Rear Veranda indicated by the research the Rear veranda is used as the laundry room as well as a auxiliary storage space by most people. The installation of gas range is expected to increase due to the expansion of the usage function of the Rear Veranda space. The installation of a specialized refrigerator to store the traditional food is demanded. 4. Consumers need more efficient and functional storage device because the temporary shelves are often being used as the storage device. The perception of the storage device is assumed to have been influence by the traditional life style.

The subjects were consisted of 29 patients with allergic rhinitis. Each patient of nasal symptom scores assessed and dust samples drowned from their bedrooms twice for 1 month interval. The data. 58 samples were analyzed by using ANOVA. t-test and stepwise multiple regression. The results were as follows 1. Out of a total 52 dust samples $(89.7\%)$ were isolated house mites. Total 815mites/0.5gm dust were collected and identified the most prevalent house mites was Pyroglypidae mite with $81.1\%$ 2. The amount of house dust mites in the group of bedding laundry with hot water was significantly lower than that those of with cold water. 3. The nasal symptoms of the patients in the group of bedding laundry with hot water was significantly less than that those of with cold water. and also those of using large size bedroom was significantly lower than that those of using small size one. • The study with the subjects of the female consumers of the fomentation rooms in their 20s, this research made an investigation of the fomentation wear. Also, dye-fastness experiments of the wear's colors against washing and sweating were held. The following are the conclusions; 1. Survey Results of the Present Situations of Fomentation Wear Designs of the fomentation wear, 88% belonged to a T-shirt (upper clothes) and knee pants. The primary colors of the wear were in the order of gray (37.5%), white (31.3%), orange (25%), indigo (18.8%), and yellowish (18.8%). 43% of the wear companies used the same color for two-piece clothes, and 57% employed different colors for upper and lower clothes. 2. Consumers' Attitude about Fomentation Wear The key problem in the attitude to the wear, 25.9% pointed out the worries about physical exposure (like breasts and legs) owing to the improperness in designs and sizes. 32.8% of the subjects were also worried about physical silhouette exposure following sweating. The need for design improvement was felt as the subjects expressed their intention to use better fomentation wear in design and materials if the fare is higher. 3. Experimental Results of the Dye fastness of the Fomentation Wear Dye-fastness experiments by sweating appeared in the order of gray > white > pink. The results by washing were gray & white > pink. As laundry grew in number, the grade of dye fastness fell a little bit. In the fomentation environment with more laundry and more perspiration, dye fastness of the wear's colors against washing and sweating should be fully considered.
