  • In this work, the emulsified asphalt with high phase stability and storage stability was prepared by using phase inversion emulsification and the surfactant mixed with cationic and nonionic surfactants. It was found that the asphalt together with Span 20, nonionic surfactant and DDA (Dimethyl Dodecyl Amine), cationic surfactant showed the most stable phase. The phase stability of the emulsified asphalt, therefore, was investigated through the particle size with mixed surfactant content, rheology behavior and Zeta potential value; the particle size decreased with the increase of the mixed surfactant content but the viscosity increased. The shear thinning behaviors and the Zeta potential value with 50 mV~60 mV were shown, which was found to be considered stable. In addition, SBR latex(Styrene-butadiene-rubber) and water dispersed Epoxy (EPD) were used to enhance the physical properties of the emulsified asphalt. The swelling and adhesion features of the emulsified asphalt were also studied with $CaCO_3$, Silica, and Montmorillonite (MMT). It was shown that the addition of SBR latex and MMT can be another way to improve the physical properties of the emulsified asphalt in that the lowest swelling feature was found.

  • The vulcanized NR and blend films were prepared with mixing of natural rubber latex (NRL) and methyl methacrylated grafted latex(MGL) with various additives by dipping process. It was investigated the basic properties of vulcanized NR films that is optimum condition of the mature time, swelling degree, cure time at $110^{\circ}C$, and measured the mechanical properties of tensile strength and elongation of its condition. In order to identify the surface structure and the slip properties of blend films contact angles and static and kinetic friction coefficient were measured. Contact angles were decreased with increment of blend ratio of MGL, and static and kinetic friction coefficient were decreased rapidly for the NR/MG and NR-d-MG films than for the NR films. From the results, NR/MG and NR-d-MG films has slip's reinforcement in skin contact surface with increased of blend ratio of MGL.

  • The various types of PBA/PMMA composite latexes were prepared by $2.1\;{\mu}m$ PBA seeded batch and seeded semi-continuous dispersion polymerization. The morphology of the PBA/PMMA composite latexes by seeded batch process was found to be closely dependant on the weight ratios of methanol/water in polymerization medium and of PBA seed/MMA at the second stage. In general, egg, snowman, confetti, peanut-like nonspherical composite latex particles were formed with increasing amount of water and MMA as a result of the occurrence of the phase separation between PBA seed and PMMA. The morphology of the PBA/PMMA composite latexes by seeded semi-continuous process was controlled by the addition time of MMA, especially, spherical shaped core(PBA)/shell(PMMA) composite latex particles were prepared under the monomer-starved condition at the second stage.

  • The heterocoagulation of latex is a simple and useful method to fabricate various polymer nanocomposites in which a precise control of the colloid stability is essential. In this work, a multi-layered graphenes (MLGs)/poly(styrene-co-butyl acrylate) (P(S-co-BA)) nanocomposite having an excellent dispersion of MLGs was prepared via the sudden heating heterocoagulation process. The P(S-co-BA) component was obtained by emulsion polymerization. This process can effectively shorten the process and particles growth steps. The colloid stability of these dispersions was controlled by factors such as ionic charge, temperature, and reaction times. The influence of these factors on heterocoagulation was evaluated and the properties of the nanocomposites were investigated. The conductivity of the MLGs/P(S-co-BA) nanocomposites increased from -11.53 to -5.70 S/cm for an increase in MLG content from 0.01 to 5 wt%. Moreover, percolation threshold was observed in the case of 0.01 wt% MLGs.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of different yarn twisting methods on physical properties. Plain single jersey structured fabrics were knitted from Kevlar yarn, and from Kevlar/HPPE, and from Kevlar/Basalt fiber, and from Kevlar/Glass fiber and Kevlar/Stainless steel fiber blended and core-spun yarns. and then, The fabrics were coated NBR Latex. The physical properties, including tear strength, modulus, degree of penetration, heat resistance, and cut resistance of the knitted fabrics were investigated and compared. Kevlar/HPPE blended yarn fabrics recorded the highest heat resistance (13 Sec.). and Kevlar/HPPE blended yarn fabrics had good cut resistance (Cut Level 4).

  • SBR, polyurethane, acryl and epoxy latex were seperately mixed with ethylene-vinylacetate emulsion(EVA) in the range of $0{\sim}50%$ (wt.% ). For the mixtures, the various physical properties were examined. The viscosity of mixtures was mainly influenced by compatability with EVA emulsion, was decreased within 20% (wt.% ) of latex content, and showed the similar values over 20% (wt.% ) of latex content. The workable time of cement mixtures was mainly depended on the reactivity with cement. The formation of film could be only within $30{\sim}40$ minutes from mixing cement. The tack-free time of mixtures was influenced by the sorts of resin and the quantity of cement. The slow order of tack-free time was epoxy mixtures>SBR mixtures>urethane mixtures>acryl mixtures. The pencil hardness of mixtures was $4B{\sim}2H$, represented higher value in cement mixtures than in emulsion state.

  • The flexural and compressive strengths of polymer-modified mortars containing FRP wastes were investigated. The specimens of polymer-modified mortars containing FRP mortat were perpared by using styrene-butadiene rubber(SBR) latex, ethylene-vinyl acetate(EVA) emulsion and polyacrylic ester(PAE) emulsion with various FRP-sand ratios(10, 20, 30, 40, 50wt%). The compressive and flexural strengths of polymer-mokified mortars containing FRP wastes were decreased with an increase of FRP-sand ratio. But the compressive and flexural strengths of PAE polymer-modified mortar were more improved than OPC, whereas those of SBR and EVA polymer-modified mortars containing FRP wastes were decreased than OPC.

  • Poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET) tire cord has relatively lower adhesion properties caused by limited reacting sites. In order to improve the adhesion force between PET tire cord and rubber, an additional process to activate surface of PET has been employed. Atmospheric plasma was used to substitute the chemical finishing process of PET tire cord as a green dipping process. Contact angle was measured to confirm surface change of PET after plasma treatment. The treated PET tire cords with/without resorcinol-formaldehyde-latex(RFL) and unvulcanized rubber were vulcanized in a testing mold at $160^{\circ}C$. After atmospheric plasma treatment of PET tire cord, adhesion force was somewhat increased under some conditions.

  • This paper is on for a material to replace the petroleum-based resins used as adhesives for the fiber in rubber composite materials. The study limited to the reaction properties of tannin with formaldehyde. Tannin-formaldehyde(TF) reactions were carried out in aqueous media. Rates of reaction were strongly dependent on concentration, temperature, pH, and the mole ratio of tannin to formaldehyde. Viscosities of reaction mixtures were followed up to gelation. The reactivity of tannin-formaldehyde resins was greater than that of resorcinol-formaldehyde resins. To formulate an adhesive, a styrene-butadiene-vinyl pyridine terpolymer latex(L) was added to the TF. This preliminary results suggest that the condensed tannins have considerable promise as substitutes for resorcinol used in resin formulation for bonding of fiber to rubber.
