  • This paper presents a novel methodology for estimating vehicle ego-motion, i.e. tri-axis linear velocities and angular velocities by using stereo vision sensor and 2G1Y sensor (longitudinal acceleration, lateral acceleration, and yaw rate). The estimated ego-motion information can be utilized to predict future ego-path and improve the accuracy of 3D coordinate of obstacle by compensating for disturbance from vehicle movement representatively for collision avoidance system. For the purpose of incorporating vehicle dynamic characteristics into ego-motion estimation, the state evolution model of Kalman filter has been augmented with lateral vehicle dynamics and the vanishing point estimation has been also taken into account because the optical flow radiates from a vanishing point which might be varied due to vehicle pitch motion. Experimental results based on real-world data have shown the effectiveness of the proposed methodology in view of accuracy.

  • Numerical investigations were conducted to study the convective phenomena of an initially stably stratified salt water solution with lateral heating in a uniformly rotating annulus. The method of investigation is the finite difference analysis of the basic conservation equation for an axisymmetric, unsteady, double-diffusive convection and calculation is made for R $a_{\eta}$=2*10$^{5}$ and Ta=10$^{7}$ ~ 2.5*10$^{8}$ . Formation of layered flow structure, merging process of layers, the corresponding temperature and concentration distributions, Nu variation with time are examined. Numerical results show that in each layer, the temperature profile looks 'S'-shaped and the concentration profile is uniform due to the convective mixing. At the interface between adjacent layers, the temperature changes smoothly but the concentration changes rapidly. As the effect of the rotation increases, the generation of rolls at hot wall, the formation and merging of layers are delayed. The average Nu shows the trend of conduction heat transferees the effect of the rotation increases.n increases.

  • There appears lateral capillary force in a hydrophilic flat needle employed for the fabrication of fine organic thin-film stripes, bringing in an increase of the stripe width. It also causes the stripe thickness to increase with increasing coating speed, which is hardly observed in a normal coating process. Through computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations, we demonstrate that the lateral capillary flow can be substantially suppressed by increasing the contact angle of the needle end. Based on the simulation results, we have coated the outer surface of the flat needle with a hydrophobic material (polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) with the water contact angle of 104°). Using such a hydrophobic needle, we can suppress the lateral capillary flow of an aqueous poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): poly(4-styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) to a great extent, rendering the stripe narrow (63 ㎛ at 30 mm/s). Consequently, the stripe thickness is decreased as the coating speed increases. To demonstrate its applicability to solution-processable organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), we have also fabricated OLED with the fine PEDOT: PSS stripe and observed the strong light-emitting stripe with the width of about 68 ㎛.

  • In order to evaluate properly ship motion relating to the berthing maneuver, the hydrodynamic forces acting on ship hull in berthing maneuver need to be estimated rightly. CFD has been employed for time-domain simulation of transient flow induced by Wigley model moving laterally from rest in shallow water. The numerical solutions successfully captured not only the characteristics of the transitional hydrodynamic forces but also some interesting features of the flow field around a berthing ship according to the water depth. In this paper, the consideration is carried out on the approximate formula based on the CFD results, which can estimate hydrodynamic forces especially lateral drag coefficient starting from the rest to the uniform movement.

  • Facial expression was an important communication methods. In oriental medicine, according to the emotion the face has changed shape and difference occurs in physiology and pathology. To verify such a theory, we studied the correlation between emotional facial expressions and meridian and collateral flow. The facial region divided by meridian, outer brow was Gallbladder meridian, inner brow was Bladder meridian, medial canthus was Bladder meridian, lateral canthus was Gallbladder meridian, upper eyelid was Bladder meridian, lower eyelid was Stomach meridian, central cheeks was Stomach meridian, lateral cheeks was Small intestine meridian, upper and lower lips, lip corner, chin were Small and Large intestine meridian. Meridian and collateral associated with happiness was six. This proves happiness is a high importance on facial expression. Meridian and collateral associated with anger was five. Meridian and Collateral associated with fear and sadness was four. This shows fear and sadness are a low importance on facial expression than different emotion. Based on yang meridian which originally descending flow in the body, the ratio of anterograde and retrograde were happiness 3:4, angry 2:5, sadness 5:3, fear 4:1. Based on face of the meridian flow, the ratio of anterograde and retrograde were happiness 5:2, angry 3:4, sadness 3:5, fear 4:1. We found out that practical meridian and collateral flow change by emotion does not correspond to the expected meridian and collateral flow change by emotion.

  • Objectives: This study compared the flow and filling of several retrograde filling materials using new different test models. Materials and Methods: Glass plates were manufactured with a central cavity and 4 grooves in the horizontal and vertical directions. Grooves with the dimensions used in the previous study (1 × 1 × 2 mm; length, width, and height respectively) were compared with grooves measuring 1 × 1 × 1 and 1 × 2 × 1 mm. Biodentine, intermediate restorative material (IRM), and mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) were evaluated. Each material was placed in the central cavity, and then another glass plate and a metal weight were placed over the cement. The glass plate/material set was scanned using micro-computed tomography. Flow was calculated by linear measurements in the grooves. Central filling was calculated in the central cavity (㎣) and lateral filling was measured up to 2 mm from the central cavity. Results: Biodentine presented the least flow and better filling than IRM when evaluated in the 1 × 1 × 2 model. In a comparison of the test models, MTA had the most flow in the 1 × 1 × 2 model. All materials had lower lateral filling when the 1 × 1 × 2 model was used. Conclusions: Flow and filling were affected by the size of the test models. Higher grooves and materials with greater flow resulted in lower filling capacity. The test model measuring 1 × 1 × 2 mm showed a better ability to differentiate among the materials.

  • Introduction: To cover the exposed tendons and bones in the foot and hand which need coverage and abundant vascular flow, lateral arm flaps were transferred. Lateral arm flap is a thin and innervated fasciocutaneous flap with a lower lateral cutaneous nerve and posterior radial collateral artery. Materials and methods: From October 1992 through September 2003, we have performed 5 lateral arm flaps for reconstruction of the exposed achilles tendons in 2 cases and the exposed forearm extensors, 2nd to 5th metacarpal bones and scaphoid each 1 case. The causes were traffic accident in 2 cases and machinary injury in 3 cases. Age range was between 31 to 74 (average 50) and all male except 1. Posterior lateral collateral artery and venae comitantes were anastomosed by end to end in 3 cases and vena comitante in 2 cases. Lower lateral cutaneous nerve was anastomosed with a branch of superficial radial nerve in 2 cases. Results: The results were evaluated by survival of the flap, sensory discrimination, cosmesis and comfort in the activities of the daily living. All flaps were survived. Sensory recovery was graded as deep cutaneous pain sensibility in 2 cases. Cosmesis was moderately satisfied and comfort was good except 1 as moderate. Postoperative defatting procedure was done in 1 case and skin abrasion was occurred in 1 case. Conclusion: Lateral arm flap was suitable for coverage of the exposed achilles tendons and exposed forearm extensors, metacarpals and scaphoid in the wrist.

  • In this paper, using soil slope inclinometer observations of lateral flow is used as a traditional way, but there are some decisions. Inclinometers in the process of installing and monitoring is costly. Severe incline slope of the lateral flow is observed in the inefficient. As a solution for it using TDR sensors are used to. Metal conductors such as coaxial cable and general cable uses a measurement sensor can be installed on site at a lower cost and slope measurements are available for long-term monitoring. When TDR sensor is installed on the slopes, changes in the behavior of slopes causes the earth pressure. TDR sensors determine the change of earth pressure and tried to analyze the behavior of slopes.

  • A numerical analysis is carried out to study the effect of piston shape on the lubrication characteristics between the cylinder and piston in hydraulic piston pumps. The results showed that the shape of piston affect significantly the pressure distribution in the clearance, the lateral force acting on the piston and leakage flow through the clearance. Partially tapered piston is more effective than any other piston shapes because it reduces the possibility of hydraulic locking and improves the volumetric efficiency of the pump.
