Objectives: This study was performed to estimate the effectiveness of burning acupuncture therapy (Hwachim) and sweet bee venom pharmacopuncture (S-BV pharmacopuncture) in treating lateral epicondylitis of elbow. Methods: We selected 33 patients at first, but 13 patients were excluded due to unclear medical records. Finally, a total of 20 patients who had received treatment from January 2012 to December 2013 were included in this study; all 20 patients had undergone Hwachim for the treatment of lateral epicondylitis of elbow, and 19 of the 20 had been treated with S-BV pharmacopuncture (Korea Pharmacopuncture Institute, KPI) and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) as an ancillary treatment method. The degrees of pain of the 20 patients were evaluated by using the visual analogue scale (VAS) score at their first and final visits. The Wilcoxon signed rank test and the Kruskal-Wallis test were used to compare the VAS scores statistically. Results: The VAS score had decreased significantly from $10.00{\pm}0.00$ to $4.00{\pm}2.47$ (P = 0.000) by the end of the treatment. No significant changes were observed based on the number of treatments (P = 0.246), the age of the patients (P = 0.810), the duration of the illness (P = 0.705), and the location of the lesion (P = 0.076). Conclusion: This study suggests Hwachim and S-BV pharmacopuncture are very effective for treating lateral epicondylitis of the elbow.
The purpose of this study is to report the treatment effects of Korean medicine for patients with lateral epicondylitis. This study was done on 12 cases of patients with lateral epicondylitis who visited in Korean Medicine Clinic of Ganghwa-gun Public Health Care Center. We used muscle contraction/relaxation strengthen technique, Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM), acupuncture on patients and mesured numerical rating scale (NRS), pain disability index (PDI), and grip strength test to evaluate treatment effects. Among twelve patients, eleven cases showed decreasing in NRS and all cases showed decreasing in PDI. Ten cases showed increasing in grip strength test. Korean medical treatments including muscle contraction/relaxation strengthen technique and IASTM are thought to be one of the effective treatment for patients with lateral epicondylitis.

Purpose : The Purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of taping and AMCT(activator methods chiropractic technique) on the pain and grip strength in patients with lateral epicondylitis. Methods : To study divided of three groups. Taping groups were apply to taping was attached from wrist joint to elbow joint lateral epicondly after maximun flexion. AMCT application was contact the posterior aspect of the proximal head of the radius. The line of drive is anterior and inferior. Next, contact the anterior aspect of the lunate by positioning the instrument on the volar aspect of the wrist. The line of drive is straight posterior. combination groups was treated using the taping and AMCT application. Result : 1. The pain was decreased on taping groups, AMCT groups and combination groups of all(p<.05). 2. Power grip was enhanced in taping groups, AMCT and combination groups(p<.05). but taping, AMCT, combination groups was no difference compared with after 1 week therapy(p>.05). 3. Compared with AMCT and taping therapy about pain decreased was AMCT groups better than taping groups(p<.05). 4. Compared with AMCT and taping therapy about power grip was AMCT groups better than taping groups(p<.05). 5. AMCT and combination groups was no difference compared with pain release and power grip after therapy(p>.05). Conclusion : AMCT groups therapy are more effect able than taping therapy for grip strength and pain reduction. Hence, AMCT groups therapy is most effect able for pain reduction with lateral epicondylitis patients.

Arthroscopic ECRB release is a reliable procedure with a remarkable functional restoration and pain control. High incidence of intra-articular pathology such as chondromalacia and synovitis was noted in the lateral epicondylitis.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of taping method using elastic tape and non-elastic tape on pain, grip strength and muscle activity in middle-aged female patients with lateral epicondylitis. METHODS: The subjects were 40- to 50-year-old female patients with lateral epicondylitis. A total of 22 subjects were divided into two groups, and each group had 11 patients. The intervention was carried out three times a week for 4 weeks. One group applied tape using elastic tape (ETG) while the other group applied tape using non-elastic tape (NETG). The measurement factors were pain, grip strength, and muscle activity. Pain was measured using VAS. Grip strength was measured using a grip dynamometer, and muscle activity was measured using EMG in the affected extensor carpi radialis brevis. Changes in interventions were compared among the groups using a paired t-test. The comparison between groups compared delta values (Changed values) between pre- and post-intervention using an independent t-test. RESULTS: In both groups, there was a statistically significant decrease in VAS. However, there was no statistically significant decrease in the delta value of VAS between ETG and NETG. In both groups, grip strength and muscle activity increased after intervention. There were statistically significant differences in delta values between ETG and NETG. CONCLUSION: Taping is a good intervention method for patients with lateral epicondylitis. Both elastic tape and non-elastic tape were effective. In particular, taping using elastic tape is an effective method for improving muscle function with pain reduction.
Objectives : This study was performed to report the effect of oriental medical treatments on the 4 patients with lateral epicondylitis of the elbow. Methods : The 4 patients were treated by Bee Venom acupuncture, Dong-Qi acupuncture, acupuncture on tender points of the origin of the extensor carpi radialis and taping on the extensor carpi radialis. The state of patients was measured by visual analog scale(VAS), elbow range of motion(ROM) and patient's subjective symptom grade(PSSG). Results : After mean 9.5 times of treatments, the recovery of elbow ROM was measured and significant pain relief was seen as the average of VAS changed from 10 to 1.25 and average of PSSG changed from 2.75 to 0.5 grade. Conclusions : These results suggest that oriental medical treatments including Bee Venom acupuncture, Dong-Qi acupuncture, acupuncture, taping are effective to improve the lateral epicondylitis of the elbow.
Lateral epicondylitis is caused by repeated use of the wrist, which causes inflammation and pain in the wrist extensor and tendon of the humerus. Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) caused by repetitive resistance exercise affects the tendons connected in series with the muscle, leading to lateral epicondylitis. Although micro-current stimulation has been suggested as a possible treatment for tendinitis, there are insufficient studies on specific variables such as frequency. In this study, 15 healthy adult males and females developed DOMS in the wrist extensor and tendon in the humerus. The experimental group consisted of a low frequency group applying 20 Hz and a high frequency group applying 100 Hz according to the micro-current frequency. Each subject underwent an experiment for 5 days after DOMS, and the recovery rates were compared by measuring AROM, GPT, MST, PPT, and VAS. As a result, the 20 Hz group showed significant changes in AROM, MST, and VAS compared to the control group on the 4th day, and the recovery rate was also higher than that of the 100 Hz group. On the 5th day, recovery rate of 100 Hz group was higher than 20 Hz in AROM and PPT, and MST showed higher recovery rate than 20 Hz group, but there was no significant difference. These results indicate that microcurrent stimulation is effective for the treatment of delayed myalgia and tendon inflammation and that the 100 Hz group has faster recovery than the 20 Hz group.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this was to translate Patient-Rated Tennis Elbow Evaluation(PRTEE) into Korean and identify the reliability and validity of a Korean version of PRTEE. METHODS: The subjects of this study were 32 patients diagnosed with lateral epicondylitis. The subjects were surveyed using a Korean version of PRTEE three times: at the first visit, one week after, and two weeks after. This questionnaire consisted of 15 questions including 5 questions about pain and 10 questions about functions. Intraclass correlation coefficients were used to measure reliability and Cronbach's alpha coefficients were used to assess internal consistency. In addition, the validity of the survey results was examined by correlating a visual analogue scale with the outcome of holding without pain. RESULTS: Test-retest reliability of Korea version PRTEE was good total ICC= .962 (CI=.922-,982). Cronbach's alpha value for PRTEE was found to be .955 and it was statistically significant (p<.05). The positive correlation between PRTEE and VAS was moderate to high (r=.753, P=.00) and statistically significant. There was also a low significant negative correlation between PRTEE and PFG (r=-.362, P=.042). CONCLUSION: The Korean version of PRTEE had reliability and validity. Therefore, it is a useful measure to evaluate the conditions of patients with lateral epicondylitis.
