In this paper the dynamic characteristics of a Swing Motion Bogie, such as a critical speed and a carbody vibration, are investigated in reply to the request of the Meridian Rail Corporation in the United States. Also described are experimental results of the maximum speed, the derailment coefficient, the lateral force, the vertical force, the vibration acceleration and steady state lateral acceleration measured from main line tests.
The research was requested by Meridian Rail Corporation in United States. The Swing Motion Bogie can application by Korea style if synthesize study result of bogie strength evaluation, bogie dynamic characteristics analysis, actual test(maximum speed, derailment coefficient, lateral force, vertical force, vibration acceleration, steady state lateral acceleration) etc..
This study was performed for the purpose of evaluating the stress distributions around five different types of implants according to their structures. The stress distribution around the surrounding bone was analysed by two-dimensional photoelastic method. Five epoxy resin models were made, and vertical and lateral forces were applied to the models. A circular polariscope was used to record the isochromatic fringes. The results of this study were summerized as follows : 1. Threaded type implants showed more even stress distribution patterns than cylinderical type implants when vertical and lateral forces were applied. 2. The stress concentrated patterns were observed at the neck portion and middle portion of the cylindrical type implants comparing with threaded type implants when vertical force was applied. 3. Model 1 and model 4 which are tthreaded type implants showed similar stress distribution patterns at the middle and apical portions and more stress was concentrated at the neck porion of model 1 comparing with model 4 when vertical force was applied. The stresses around model 1 were more evenly distributed when lateral force was applied. 4. More stress was concentrated at the neck and middle portion of cylindrical type implants than threaded type implants when lateral force was applied. 5. Model 1 showed the most even stress distribution patterns when lateral force was applied and stress distribution did no occured at the apical portion of modedl 2 when lateral force was applied. 6. There were almost no differences in stress concentrated patterns with or without having hollow design. And the stress concentrated patterns were observed at the corner of apex in model 5 which has hollow design when vertical force was applied.
Four full-scaled partially confined and unconfined masonry panels were tested with monotonic lateral loads. To study the effects of vertical force and boundary columns, two specimens with no boundary columns were subjected to different vertical forces, while two wing-wall specimens had the column placed eccentrically and in the middle, respectively. The specimens with no boundary columns exhibited ductile rocking behavior, where the lateral strength increased with increasing vertical compression. The wing-wall specimens with columns behaved as strut-and-tie systems. The column-panel interaction resulted in greater strength, lower deformation capacity and differences in failure modes. A comparison with analytical models showed that rocking strength can be accurately estimated using vertical force and the panel aspect ratio for panels with no boundary columns. The estimation for lateral strength on the basis of a panel section area indicated scattered error for wing-wall specimens.
A numerical analysis and experimental study were performed to investigate the behavior and strength of tube-gusset connection subjected to axial and lateral forces. To investigate the behavior of the connections, experiment was conducted by applying three directional loads. Local buckling and local plastic bending deformation of the connection were observed from the test. Analytical results were compared with test results for the limited cases. Primary interests here are the effect of eccentricity on the strength of the connection. To suggest a formula for the strength of tube-gusset connection, lateral forces were replaced with equivalent wall moment and eccenrtric vertical component force of lateral force. Ultimate strength formula for the each force was proposed. Finally, nondimensionalized ultimate strength interaction relationships between the wall moment of tube($M_w$), vertical axial force($P_v$), and eccentric vertical component of lateral force($P_e$) were formulated through parametric study.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of type of magnet attachment and implant angulation in two implant overdenture models. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Magnet attachments used in this study were flat and dome types (MGT5515, MGT5520D, Dentium Co., Seoul, Korea). Two implants with keepers were inserted in the resin blocks at a distance of 24 mm. For the first model, the implants were parallel to the vertical and perpendicular to the horizontal; for the second model, both were angulated 5 degrees to the mesial; for the third model, both were angulated 10 degrees toward the mesial. The retentive force was measured in both vertical and lateral directions. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS software version 22.0 (α=.05). RESULTS. The flat type magnet attachment showed the highest lateral retentive force in the 20° divergent group (P<.05) and the dome type magnet attachment showed the highest lateral retentive force in the parallel group (P<.05). The vertical and lateral retentive force of the dome type magnet attachment was greater than that of the flat type magnet attachment in every direction (P<.05). CONCLUSION. Within the limitations of this study, the dome shape magnet attachment can resist vertical and lateral retentive force more superiorly than the flat type magnet attachment, regardless of angle, in the mandibular two implant model.
Base isolation technology has been accepted as a feasible and attractive way in improving seismic resistance of structures. The seismic design of new seismically isolated structures is mainly governed by the Uniform Building Code (UBC-97) published by the International Conference of Building Officials. In the UBC code, the distribution formula of the inertial (or lateral) forces leads to an inverted triangular shape in the vertical direction. It has been found to be too conservative for most isolated structures through experimental, computational and real earthquake examinations. In this paper, four simple and reasonable design formulae, based on the first mode of the base-isolated structures, for the lateral force distribution on isolated structures have been validated by a multiple-bay three-story base-isolated steel structure tested on the shaking table. Moreover, to obtain more accurate results for base-isolated structures in which higher mode contributions are more likely expected during earthquakes, another four inertial force distribution formulae are also proposed to include higher mode effects. Besides the experimental verification through shaking table tests, the vertical distributions of peak accelerations computed by the proposed design formulae are in good agreement with the recorded floor accelerations of the USC University Hospital during the Northridge earthquake.
The important factor to evaluate the running safety of a railway vehicle would be the interaction force between wheel and rail(derailment coefficient), for which is one of important factors to check the running safety of a railway vehicle that may cause a tragic accident. Element that analyze derailment coefficient is consisted of wheel load and lateral force. In this paper, studied about method that calculate vertical force(wheel load) by bending load of axle in rolling stocks.

Positional stability analysis based on aerodynamic forces and induced moments of formation flight using two small aircraft models is presented. The aerodynamic force and moments of the trailing aircraft are analyzed in the aspect of flight stability. The induced moments with the change of local flow direction by wing-tip vortex from the leading aircraft can affect the flight positional stability of aircraft in closed formation flight. Aerodynamic forces and moments of trailing aircraft model are measured by 6-component internal balance at the 49 locations with vertical and lateral space between two aircraft models. Results are shown that the positional stability of trailing aircraft in formation flight can be analyzed by positional stability derivatives with vertical and lateral space. It is concluded that flying positions can be important factors for aircraft position stability due to induced aerodynamic force and moments with vertical and lateral spacing by the variation of flow pattern from the leading aircraft in formation flight.

Full scale durability test in the laboratory is an essential of any fatigue life evaluation of components or structures of the automotive vehicle. Component testing is particularly important in today's highly competitive industries where the design to reduce weight and production costs must be balanced with the necessity to avoid expensive service failure. Generally, hydraulic road simulator is used to carry out the fatigue test and the vibration test. In this paper, the link unit which is able to realize the 3 element forces such as vertical force, lateral force, and longitudinal force that are applied to the road simulator is designed. Also, the designed link is verified with kinematics and inverse-kinematics. From this results, the designed factor satisfied the maximum stroke so that it satisfied the requirements for 3-axial road simulator.
