There are many methods to reduce the weight and the cost of the automobile body, among them, Tailor Welded Blank (TWB) is new welding method applied to body structure. It is necessary to evaluate mechanical properties of TWB structures or sheets for the application to automobile body parts. In this study, the stiffness of T-type and L-type joint structures, composite of TWB panel, which simplified two portions of side structure in automobile body were investigated. Additionally, the fatigue properties of TWB panels were obtained. Two types of welding technologies, laser and mash seam welding, were used to join mild panels with different thickness. This results are compared with conventional structures. The results are as follows: 1) The stiffness of joint structures, composite of TWB panel, is approximately 17% higher than that of conventional ones. 2) The location of welding line in TWB had a effect on the in plane bending stiffness, but not on the out of plane bending stiffness. 3) In terms of welding technology type, the mash seam welding show higher stiffness than the laser welding for in plane bending stiffness. But minimal differences in both types are revealed for out of plane bending stiffness. 4) The fatigue strength, composite of TWB panel, is lower than that of base steel. It is thought that defects in the welding zone had the action of notch in the fatigue test.
The corrosion behaviors of laser-welded super duplex stainless steel tubes with post-weld heat treatment(PWHT) conditions(950, 1000, 1050, 1100 ℃ for 5 and 30 min) were evaluated by electrochemical potentiodynamic polarization and critical pitting temperature measurements. This study showed that the critical metallurgical factors affecting the degradation of corrosion resistance of a steel tube in as-welded condition were the unbalanced phase fraction(ferrite:austenite = 94:4), Cr2N precipitation, and phase transformation from the austenite phase to ɛ-martensite(via stress-induced phase transformation). The improvement in the corrosion resistance of the welded specimen depends greatly on the PWHT conditions. The specimens after PWHT conducted below 1000 ℃ showed inferior corrosion resistance, caused by precipitation of the sigma phase enriched with Cr and Mo. At 1100 ℃ for a longer duration in PWHT, the ferrite phase grows, and its fraction increases, leading to an unbalanced phase fraction in the microstructure. As a result, pitting can be initiated primarily at the interface between the ferrite/austenite phase, particularly in base metal.
By means of flexible forming processes in sheet metal manufacturing it is possible to produce parts of complex geometry within short manufacturing time. These procedures are suitable especially for prototyping or adjustment of deformation. Here formative procedures like laser forming are increasingly important, because they make the large-scale-like production of the prototypes with the required materials possible. High accuracy and reproducibility of the products is the precondition of the production. Due to the lack of a forming tool, complex geometries can hardly be manufactured within tolerances. To overcome this problem an automatic closed loop control system for the adjustment of deformations has been developed. An important element of the closed loop control system is the definition of a suitable irradiation strategy for laser forming. For the determination of the irradiation strategy a lot of influences must be taken into consideration from the field of material, geometry and laser. In this paper the improved closed loop control system and the development of an irradiation strategy for 4 mm deep buckles in an ALMgSi1 sheet will be represented. This system can be used e.g. in the automated adjustment of hail damage in car bodies or deformation by heat treatment.
Laser surface hardening is one of core technologies to enhance various characteristics such as the strength, hardness, toughness, abrasion resistance, and fatigue resistance for the mold material. This paper focuses on testing characteristics of the laser heat treatment according to the preheating parameters in case of the SM45C medium carbon steel. In this paper, we assume that the power and travel speed of the laser are 1,800W and 0.5m/min, respectively, and the range of the preheating temperature is $50^{\circ}C{\sim}300^{\circ}C$. From the result of the test, we observed that the hardness width and depth are enhanced as the temperature is increased. Also, the best average hardness was 751.7Hv for the temperature of $100^{\circ}C$.
Accurate tissue temperature monitoring during clinical procedures, such as laser therapy or surgery, is crucial for ensuring patient safety and treatment efficacy. Noninvasive techniques are essential to prevent tissue disturbance while providing real-time temperature data. However, current methods often struggle to accurately measure temperature at various depths within the skin, which is essential to avoid damage to surrounding healthy tissues due to excessive heat. In response to this challenge, we developed a confocal imaging system that utilizes the laser speckle imaging (LSI) technique for precise depthwise temperature monitoring. LSI uses laser light scattering to capture subtle changes in speckle patterns on the skin's surface due to temperature fluctuations within the tissue. By analyzing these changes, LSI enables accurate depth-resolved temperature measurements. This technique enhances the precision and safety of medical procedures, offering significant potential for broader clinical applications, improved patient outcomes, and better thermal management during interventions.
Objectives : Carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) laser, a high power laser has been used for pain management, dermatology, and surgery and laser acupuncture and moxibustion as well, since it had been oscillated in 1964 at Bell Telephone Laboratories in the US. The purpose of this study is to investigate the history of $CO_2$ laser acupuncture through reviewing studies published in early stage of laser medicine. Methods : To investigate the early history of $CO_2$ laser acupuncture, studies were searched in the electronic databases, including PubMed, ScienceDirect, CNKI, Wanfang, J-STAGE, CiNii, KTNP, and OASIS, since 1964. Articles in English, Chinese, Japanese and Korean were included, and there were no limitations in literature types such as reviews, essays, clinical trials, animal experiments and veterinary research. Results : We found that the first $CO_2$ laser application to acupoints was done by a research team in Shanghai in 1976. They used $CO_2$ laser for acupuncture treatment and it was also the first laser acupuncture treatment in China. Since the first case report of $CO_2$ laser for leukopenia, it has been applied to various diseases in China, Korea, Japan and other western countries. It has been widely applied in the fields of dentistry and veterinary medicine, as well as clinical applications. Conclusions : Not only $CO_2$ laser can be used as laser acupuncture by stimulating the acupoints and meridians, but also can produce moxibustion effect by using heat stimulus. Therefore, it is expected that it will be used in various clinical fields in the future.
In this study, AISI M2 powder was selected primarily through various pieces of literature in order to improve the hardness and wear resistance. Among the laser metal deposition parameters, laser power was studied to improve the deposition efficiency in the laser metal deposition using a diode-pumped disk laser. An SKD61 hot work steel plate and AISI M2 powder were used as a substrate and powder for laser metal deposition, respectively. Experiments for the laser metal deposition were carried out by changing the laser power and track layer. The quality of the track surface and cross-section after applying the single-layer method was better than that obtained from applying the multi-layer method. As the laser power increased, the track thickness was increased, and the surface roughness deviation was decreased. In laser power condition of 1.6kW, the maximum hardness of the deposition track was 790Hv. This value was 40% better than the hardness of the SKD61 after heat treatment.
In this case report, I discussed the diagnosis and treatment of two pregnant women with temporomandibular disorders(TMD) who visited the Department of Oral Medicine, PNUH. Also, I reviewed some investigations of diagnosis and treatment of TMD in pregnant women. The obtained results were as follows; 1. No single X-ray diagnostic procedure for TMD results in radiation dose that threatens the well-being of the developing embryo and fetus. 2. Most non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAIDs) have commonly used because these drugs are considered to be nonteratogenic, but these agents are not recommended for routine use after 3rd trimester. 3. Electro-acupuncture stimulation therapy(EAST) is contraindicated for 1st trimester, and ultrasonic deep heat therapy, microwave deep heat therapy, low level laser therapy, myo-monitor are not contraindicated for pregnant women but clinician must consider some risk of adverse fetal effects. 4. The occlusal stabilization splint may be used for pregnant women, if it is fabricated indirectly. 5. Surgical treatment is contraindicated for pregnant women.
The high dimensional accuracy of the cold forged part could be acquired by the accurate dimensional modification for the die, which is, the dimensional changes from the die through forged part to final part after heat treatment were considered. The experimental and FEM analysis are performed to investigate the dimensional changes from the die to final part on cold forged part, comparing with the machined gear. The dimension of forged part is compared with the die dimension at each stage, such as, machined die, cold forged part, and heat-treated-part. The elastic characteristics and thermal influences on forging stage are analyzed numerically by the $DEFORM-3D^{TM}$. The analyzed residual stress of forged part is considered into the FE-analysis for heat treatment using the $DEFORM-HT^{TM}$. The effects of residual stress affected into the dimensional changes could be investigated by the FEA. Each residual stress of gears was measured practically by laser beam type measurement.
