  • Specialized large-scale computational finite-element and molecular dynamic models have been used in order to understand and predict how dislocation density emission and contact stress field due to nanoindentation affect inelastic deformation evolution scales that span the molecular to the continuum level in ductile crystalline systems. Dislocation density distributions and local stress fields have been obtained for different crystalline slip-system and grain-boundary orientations. The interrelated effects of grain-boundary interfaces and orientations, dislocation density evolution and crystalline structure on indentation inelastic regions have been investigated.

  • The present paper focuses on size optimization of double layer barrel vaults considering nonlinear behavior. In order to tackle the optimization problem an improved colliding bodies optimization (ICBO) algorithm is proposed. The important task that should be achieved before optimization of structural systems is to determine the best form having the least cost. In this study, an attempt is done to find the best form then it is optimized considering linear and non-linear behaviors. In the optimization process based on nonlinear behavior, the geometrical and material nonlinearity effects are included. A large-scale double layer barrel vault is presented as the numerical example of this study and the obtained results indicate that the proposed ICBO has better computational performance compared with other algorithms.

  • This paper proposes the battery-less ultra-low-power self-powered cooperating artificial neural networks device for embedded and IoT systems. This device can work without extraneous power supplying and can cooperate with other neuromorphic devices to build large-scale neural networks. This device has energy harvesting modules, so that can build a self-powered system and be used everywhere without space constraints for power supplying.

  • Mathematical modeling is majorly divided into three parts: the derivation of models, the fitting of models to data, and the simulation of data from models. This paper focuses on the parameter optimization which is necessary for the fitting of models to data. The method of simulated annealing(SA) is a technique that has recently attracted significant attention as suitable for optimization problem of very large scale. If the temperature is too high, then some of the structure created by the heuristic will be destroyed and unnecessary extra work will be done. If it is too low then solution is lost, similar to the case of a quenching cooling schedule in the SA phase. In this study, therfore, we propose a technique of determination of the starting temperature and cooling schedule for SA phase.

  • In recent years, the research of an efficient transmission method is going to meet a demand for high speed and large capacity radio communication. These systems make use of ultra-short duration pulses which yield UWB(Ultra Wide Band) signals characterized by low power spectral densities. The wavelet synthesis wave is able to set up the scale freely. So it is possible to use as the transmission wave of UWB by compressing time. In this paper, we present a general analytical expression for the average BER(Bit Error Rate) performance of UWB data transmission using wavelet system as a function of the cross-correlation between the users' signatures in an additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN) channel.

  • Job Shop Problem which consists of the m different machines and n jobs is a NP-hard problem of the combinatorial optimization. Each job consists of a chain of operations, each of which needs to be processed during an uninterrupted time period of a given length on a given machine. Each machine can process at most one operation at a time. The purpose of this paper is to develop the heuristic method to solve large scale scheduling problem using Constraint Satisfaction Problem method and Simulated Annealing. The proposed heuristic method consists of the search algorithm and optimization algorithm. The search algorithm is to find the solution in the solution space using CSP concept such as backtracking and domain reduction. The optimization algorithm is to search the optimal solution using SA. This method is applied to MT06, MT10 and MT20 Job Shop Problem, and compared with other heuristic method.

  • The reduction of power consumption in large-scale datacenters is highly-dependent on the use of virtualization to consolidate multiple workloads. However, these consolidation strategies must also take into account additional important parameters such as performance, reliability, and profitability. Resolving these conflicting goals is often the major challenge encountered in the design of optimization strategies for cloud data centers. In this paper, we put forward a data center monitoring strategy which dynamically alters its approach depending on the cloud system's current state. Results show that our proposed scheme outperformed strategies which only focus on a single metric such as SLA-Awareness and Energy Efficiency.

  • IT is the key enabler of digital economy. Appropriate usage of IT can provide a strategic competitive advantage to a firm in a dynamic competitive environment. However, there has been a continuing debate on whether IT can actually enhance the productivity of firms. This concept is called IT productivity paradox. In this study, we analyzed the causality among appropriate indicators to demonstrate the real impact of IT on productivity. The 12,100 sample data from 2011 were used for analysis. As expected, the results indicated that mobile device usage, website adoption, e-commerce, open source, cloud computing, and green computing positively influence IT productivity. This unprecedented large-scale analysis can provide clarification regarding the ambiguous causal mechanism between IT usage and productivity.

  • High-Speed vehicles can be considered as multiple mobile nodes that move together in a large-scale mobile network. High-speed makes the time allowed for a mobile node to complete a handover procedure shorter and more frequently. Hence, several protocols are used to manage the mobility of mobile nodes such as Network Mobility (NEMO). However, there are still some problems such as high handover latency and packet loss. So efficient handover management is needed to meet Quality of Service (QoS) requirements for real-time applications. This paper utilizes the cross-layer seamless handover technique for network mobility presented in cellular networks. It extends this technique to propose QoS-aware NEMO protocol which considers QoS requirements for real-time applications. A novel analytical framework is developed to compare the performance of the proposed protocol with basic NEMO using cost functions for realistic city mobility model. The numerical results show that QoS-aware NEMO protocol improves the performance in terms of handover latency, packet delivery cost, location update cost, and total cost.

  • Nowadays, base isolation systems such as lead-rubber bearing, elastomer bearing and sliding bearing have been installed to the various structures to prevent the disaster from seismic. The performance of base isolation system have been well proved by model-scale experiments and numerical analysis. However. the seismic response data measured at real large base-isolated structures is still insufficient. This paper presents a seismic monitoring system, acquiring real-time acceleration signals up to 32 channels, displaying time history and spectrum of the signals, storing the acquired data at a PC hard disk, and replaying the saved data. Moreover, the system can be operated without any limitation for monitoring period by automatic management of stored data file. The developed system has been installed at a real base-isolated building using lead-rubber bearings and we expect its seismic response data with ground motion signal can be well licquired in case of earthquake occurrence.
