  • Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) have been employed to systematically manage and design land use in urban areas. This has increased the need for more accurate vector and raster data. In Korea, l/l,000-scale digital maps are used as vector data for the facility management in urban areas. This has increased the need for large scale orthoimages. Orthoimages generated from aerial imagery can provide accurate information, making possible the more effective city management. However, there is a large problem in using the orthoimages, i.e., currently available conventional orthoimages have not been generated based on Digital Elevation Model (DEM) that takes into account the building heights. So this causes the displacements of building image in large scale orthoimages. The present study is an attempt to generate the large scale orthoimages based on building DEM. The semiautomatic building extraction method can detect building outlines by mouse clicking on either building roofs or corners. Building DEM, based on the outline and calculated building height, was used to produce the large scale orthoimages with the corrected building occlusion.

  • Water supply and sewerage systems are the large-scale urban infrastructure ejecting large amount of environmental load over the life-cycle. Therefore, it is important not only to optimize in the aspect of economical superiority and process efficiency but also to consider earth scale environmental impact. This study aimed to suggest the establishment of life cycle management(LCM) system as an integrated management solution in urban water supply and sewerage systems. As a result, the methodology for LCM system consisting of life cycle assessment(LCA), life cycle cost(LCC), life cycle $CO_{2}(LCCO_{2})$ and life cycle energy(LCE) was developed. Also, several case studies using the latest statistics data of water supply and sewerage systems were carried out to investigate the field applicability of LCM.

  • A Korea next-generation high-speed rail system represents a typical example of large- scale multi-disciplinary systems, consisting of subsystems such as train, electrical hardware, electronics, control, Information, communication, civil technology etc. The system design and acquisition data of the large-scale system must be the subject under strict configuration control and management. The system therefore, must be developed using systems engineering that is a efficient and effective methodology to design such a complex system and manage its development. This paper presents the results from a computer-aided systems engineering application to the Korea next generation high-speed railway project. Especially, the focus of the study was on requirement management and PBS management.

  • This paper presents a fast and effective methodology for service restoration in large-scale distribution systems. The service restoration problem is formulated as a constrained optimization problem and requires the fast computation time and superior solution because the more unfaulted out-of-service area should be restored as soon as possible. The proposed methodology is designed to consider the fast computation time and priority service restoration by dijkstra algorithm and fuzzy theory in large-scale distribution systems. Simulation results demonstrate the validity and effectiveness of the proposed on a 26-bus and 140-bus system.

  • This paper presents the design, development and performance of a 250kW power conditioning system(PCS) for large scale photovoltaic power plant. The PV inverter consists of a three phase IGBT stack, L-C filter, transformer and HMI unit for monitoring. To verify the performance of the PV inverter a testing facility was designed and constructed to simulate the characteristics of the solar cell and grid.

  • Planning occurs from day-to-day, small-scale decisions to large-scale infrastructure investment decisions. For that reason, various attempts have been made to appropriately assist decision-making process and its optimization. Lately, initiation of a large amount of data, also known as big data has received great attention from diverse disciplines because of versatility and adoptability in its use and possibility to generate new information. Accordingly, implementation of big data and other information management systems, such as geographic information systems (GIS) and building information modeling (BIM) have received enough attention to establish each of its own profession and other associated activities. In this extent, this study illustrates a series of big data implementation cases that can provide a lesson to urban planning domain. In specific, case studies analyze how data was used to extract the most optimized solution and what aspects could be helpful in relation to planning decisions. Also, important notions about GIS and its application in various urban cases are examined.

  • In the realm of large-scale identification deployments, the EPCglobal Class-1 Generation-2 (Gen2) standard serves as a cornerstone, facilitating rapid processing of numerous passive RFID tags. The Q-Algorithm has garnered considerable attention for its potential to markedly enhance the efficiency of Gen2-based RFID systems with minimal adjustments. This paper introduces a groundbreaking iteration of the Q-Algorithm, termed Time-Efficient Q-Algorithm (SwiftQ), specifically designed to push the boundaries of time efficiency within Gen2-based RFID systems. Through exhaustive simulations, our study substantiates that SwiftQ outperforms existing algorithms by a significant margin, demonstrating exceptional expediency that positions it as a formidable contender in the landscape of large-scale identification environments. By prioritizing time efficiency, SwiftQ offers a promising solution to meet the escalating demands of contemporary Internet of Things applications, underscoring its potential to catalyze advancements in RFID technology for diverse industrial and logistical contexts.

  • In support vector machine, the values of parameters included in kernels affect strongly generalization ability. It is often difficult to determine appropriate values of those parameters in advance. It has been observed through our studies that the burden for deciding the values of those parameters in support vector regression can be reduced by utilizing ensemble learning. However, the straightforward application of the method to large scale problems is too time consuming. In this paper, we propose a method in which the original data set is decomposed into a certain number of sub data set in order to reduce the burden for parameter tuning in support vector regression with large scale data sets and imbalanced data set, particularly.

  • Recently, we have witnessed the definitely negative impacts of large-scale accidents happened in such areas as atomic power plants and high-speed train systems, which result in increased fear for the potential danger. The problems appear to arise due to the deficiency in the design of large-scale complex systems. One of the causes can be attributed to the design process that does not fully reflect the safety requirements in the early stage of the system development because of the substantially increased complexity. In this paper, to enhance the systems safety an integrated process is studied, which considers simultaneously both the system design process and system safety process from the beginning of the system development. In the conceptual system design phase an integrated process model is constructed by analyzing the activities of both the system design and safety processes. As a case study example, an inner city train system is described with the application of the developed process. The computer simulation of the example case is followed by the result discussed. The results obtained in the paper are expected to be the basis for the future study where a detailed process and its associated activities can be developed.

  • As the amount of data increases explosively, a large scale database system is emerged to store, retrieve and manipulate it. There are several issues in this environments such as, consistency, availability and fault tolerance. In this paper, we address a efficient range-query method where data management services are separated from transaction management services in large-scale database systems. A study had been proposed using partitions to protect independence of two modules and to resolve the phantom problem, but this method was efficient only when range-query is specified by a key. So, we present a new method that can improve the efficiency when range-query is specified by a key attribute as well as other attributes. The presented method can guarantee the independence of separated modules and alleviate overheads for range-query using partial index.
