A Study on Injection Moldability of a Ceramic Material (세라믹재료의 사출성형성에 대한 연구)

  • The fabrication of ceramic machine components by injection molding(CIM : Ceramic Injection Molding) is critically dependent on the shaping and binder extraction techniques. Injection molding is of keen interest to ceramic industries because CIM is suitable for making an intricate shape and manufacturing cost is lower than other process when production scale is large. The success of the molding process is dependent on the correct formulation of the organic vehicle and the achievement of optimum filler loading. Fine alumina powders and polyethylene binder systems were employed to prepare moldable blend then produce a simple specimen by compression molding. Flow characteristics of the mixture was evaluated by viscosity measurement. Optimum binder system and ceramic volume loading for injection molding were determind. A good debinding technique was utilized to improve the quality of debinded parts and save the debinding time. The simple ceramic part was successfully sintered after debinding and its microstructure examined with SEM revealed good consolidation.

GEOMETRY OF SATELLITE IMAGES - CALIBRATION AND MATHEMATICAL MODELS

  • Satellite cameras are calibrated before launch in detail and in general, but it cannot be guaranteed that the geometry is not changing during launch and caused by thermal influence of the sun in the orbit. Modem satellite imaging systems are based on CCD-line sensors. Because of the required high sampling rate the length of used CCD-lines is limited. For reaching a sufficient swath width, some CCD-lines are combined to a longer virtual CCD-line. The images generated by the individual CCD-lines do overlap slightly and so they can be shifted in x- and y-direction in relation to a chosen reference image just based on tie points. For the alignment and difference in scale, control points are required. The resulting virtual image has only negligible errors in areas with very large difference in height caused by the difference in the location of the projection centers. Color images can be related to the joint panchromatic scenes just based on tie points. Pan-sharpened images may show only small color shifts in very mountainous areas and for moving objects. The direct sensor orientation has to be calibrated based on control points. Discrepancies in horizontal shift can only be separated from attitude discrepancies with a good three-dimensional control point distribution. For such a calibration a program based on geometric reconstruction of the sensor orientation is required. The approximations by 3D-affine transformation or direct linear transformation (DL n cannot be used. These methods do have also disadvantages for standard sensor orientation. The image orientation by geometric reconstruction can be improved by self calibration with additional parameters for the analysis and compensation of remaining systematic effects for example caused by a not linear CCD-line. The determined sensor geometry can be used for the generation? of rational polynomial coefficients, describing the sensor geometry by relations of polynomials of the ground coordinates X, Y and Z.

Application of reinforcement learning to hyper-redundant system Acquisition of locomotion pattern of snake like robot

  • We consider a hyper-redundant system that consists of many uniform units. The hyper-redundant system has many degrees of freedom and it can accomplish various tasks. Applysing the reinforcement learning to the hyper-redundant system is very attractive because it is possible to acquire various behaviors for various tasks automatically. In this paper we present a new reinforcement learning algorithm "Q-learning with propagation of motion". The algorithm is designed for the multi-agent systems that have strong connections. The proposed algorithm needs only one small Q-table even for a large scale system. So using the proposed algorithm, it is possible for the hyper-redundant system to learn the effective behavior. In this algorithm, only one leader agent learns the own behavior using its local information and the motion of the leader is propagated to another agents with time delay. The reward of the leader agent is given by using the whole system information. And the effective behavior of the leader is learned and the effective behavior of the system is acquired. We apply the proposed algorithm to a snake-like hyper-redundant robot. The necessary condition of the system to be Markov decision process is discussed. And the computer simulation of learning the locomotion is demonstrated. From the simulation results we find that the task of the locomotion of the robot to the desired point is learned and the winding motion is acquired. We can conclude that our proposed system and our analysis of the condition, that the system is Markov decision process, is valid.

  • Computer Aided Engineering(CAE) technology as well as Design(CAD) and Manufacturing(CAM) have been widely adopted in the aerospace industry in order to develop the structure of airplanes, satellites and launch vehicles. Among them, CAE softwares based on finite element methods such as NASTRAN, ABAQUS and ANSYS have gained many engineers' interest in various industries such as automobiles, civils, aircraft and spacecraft. The softwares usually consist of several modules: Static, Dynamic, Vibration, Impact etc. that make analysis specific to meet the design goals of the structure systems. Recent enhancement in the computer hardwares and numerical algorithms enables us to perform complex analysis like multi-physics, optimum design. Also, they make it possible to deal with a large scale problem easily. This paper reviews structural analysis softwares in aerospace industry and gives a summary on its recent development.

Status of Marine Sand Mining and Assessment System in Korea (우리나라 바다골재채취 및 협의제도 현황 평가)

  • This study evaluated current status of marine sand mining and related assessment systems in Korea for supporting effective policy development. The estimated total deposit of sand was ca. 10 billion $m^3$, while the estimated minable amount was ca. 5.5 billion $m^3$, in which marine sand accounted for 21%. The proportion of marine sand to the total mined aggregates has steadily increased by 15% in 1992 to 28% in 2002, but recently slightly decreased. Marine sand mining is regulated under a consultation system on the coastal development according to the "Marine Environmental Management Act". During 2002-2009, a total of 184 million $m^3$ of marine sand was mined, and the annual amount ranged from 17,440,000-33,698,000 $m^3$ the coastal area accounted for 64.5% and the Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs) 35.5%. In the coastal area, the major area supplying the marine sand was Gyeonggi Bay (>62%) followed by some southwestern coastal areas. The South and the West EEZ explained 23.9% and 11.6% of the total mined sand. The extent of marine sand mining in Korea was evaluated to be greater compared with other countries. Large-scale concentrated and repeated sand mining can damage environmental changes and ecology with long-term accumulated impacts.

Assessment of Global Air Quality Reanalysis and Its Impact as Chemical Boundary Conditions for a Local PM Modeling System (전지구 대기질 재분석 자료의 평가와 국지규모 미세먼지 예보모델에 미치는 영향)

  • The initial and boundary conditions are important factors in regional chemical transport modeling systems. The method of generating the chemical boundary conditions for regional air quality models tends to be different from the dynamically varying boundary conditions in global chemical transport models. In this study, the impact of real time Copernicus atmosphere monitoring service (CAMS) re-analysis data from the modeling atmospheric composition and climate project interim implementation (MACC) on the regional air quality in the Korean Peninsula was carried out using the community multi-scale air quality modeling system (CMAQ). A comparison between conventional global data and CAMS for numerical assessments was also conducted. Although the horizontal resolution of the CAMS re-analysis data is not higher than the conventionally provided data, the simulated particulate matter (PM) concentrations with boundary conditions for CAMS re-analysis is more reasonable than any other data, and the estimation accuracy over the entire Korean peninsula, including the Seoul and Daegu metropolitan areas, was improved. Although an inland area such as the Daegu metropolitan area often has large uncertainty in PM prediction, the level of improvement in the prediction for the Daegu metropolitan area is higher than in the coastal area of the western part of the Korean peninsula.

  • With fast deployment of high-speed networks and various online services, the demand for massive content distribution is also growing fast. An approach that is increasingly visible in communication research community and in industry domain is peer-to-peer (P2P) networks. The P2P swarming technique enables a content distribution system to achieve higher throughput, avoid server or network overload, and be more resilient to failure and traffic fluctuation. Moreover, as a P2P-based architecture pushed the computing and bandwidth cost toward the network edge, it allows scalability to support a large number of subscribers on a global scale, while imposing little demand for equipment on the content providers. However, the P2P swarming burdens message exchange overheads on the system. In this paper, we propose a new protocol which provides confidentiality, authentication, integrity, and access control to P2P swarming. We implemented a prototype of our protocol on Android smart phone platform. We believe our approach can be straightforwardly adapted to existing commercial P2P content distribution systems with modest modifications to current implementations.

Performance Improvement of Speaker Recognition Using Enhanced Feature Extraction in Glottal Flow Signals and Multiple Feature Parameter Combination (Glottal flow 신호에서의 향상된 특징추출 및 다중 특징파라미터 결합을 통한 화자인식 성능 향상)

  • In this paper, we utilize source mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (SMFCCs), skewness, and kurtosis extracted in glottal flow signals to improve speaker recognition performance. Generally, because the high band magnitude response of glottal flow signals is somewhat flat, the SMFCCs are extracted using the response below the predefined cutoff frequency. The extracted SMFCC, skewness, and kurtosis are concatenated with conventional feature parameters. Then, dimensional reduction by the principal component analysis (PCA) and the linear discriminat analysis (LDA) is followed to compare performances with conventional systems under equivalent conditions. The proposed recognition system outperformed the conventional system for large scale speaker recognition experiments. Especially, the performance improvement was more noticeable for small Gaussan mixtures.

  • The radical development of recent network technology provides the basic foundation which can establish a high speed and cheap cluster system. It is a general trend that conventional cluster systems are built as the system over a fixed level based on stabilized and high speed local networks. A multi-distributed web cluster group is a web cluster model which can obtain high performance, high efficiency and high availability through mutual cooperative works between effective job division and system nodes through parallel performance of a given work and shared memory of SC-Server with low price and low speed system nodes on networks. For this, multi-distributed web cluster group builds a sub-cluster group bound with single imaginary networks of multiple system nodes and uses the web distributed shared memory of system nodes for the effective data transmission within sub-cluster groups. Since the presented model uses a load balancing and parallel computing method of large-scale work required from users, it can maximize the processing efficiency.

  • Metabolic engineering has become a new paradigm for the more efficient production of desired bioproducts. Metabolic engineering can be defined as directed modification of cellular metabolism and properties through the introduction, deletion, and modification of metabolic pathways by using recombinant DNA and other molecular biological tools. During the last decade, metabolic flux analysis(MFA) has become an essential tool fur metabolic engineering. By MFA, the intracellular metabolic fluxes can be quantified by the measurement of extracellular metabolite concentrations in combination with the stoichiometry of intracellular reactions and mass balances. The usefulness and functionality of MFA are demonstrated by applying to metabolic pathways in E. coli. First, a large-scale in silico E. coli model is constructed, and then the effects of carbon sources on intracellular flux distributions and succinic acid production were investigated on the basis of the uptake and secretion rates of the relevant metabolites. The results indicated that succinic acid yields increased in order of gluconate, glucose and sorbitol. Acetic acid and lactic acid were produced as major products rather than when gluconate and glucose were used carbon sources. The results indicated that among three carbon sources available, the most reduced substrate is sorbitol which yields efficient succinic acid production.
