  • We propose a pilot hopping scheme that improves the limited system capacity due to pilot contamination in multi-cell environment with large-scale antenna arrays at a base station, assuming the infinite number of antennas. In the conventional fixed pilot scheme, each user obtains the same signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) over a long period of time. Therefore, a user with strong interference has continuously low SIR which degrades its service quality. In the proposed pilot hopping scheme, different pilot signals are used for each time slot, and different amounts of interference are received every time. When such a pilot hopping technique is applied, the SIR fluctuates at every time slot. When the Hybrid Automatic Repeat & reQuest (HARQ) technique is applied in such a channel, the outage probability and transmission rate are improved. We show that there is the performance gain of the proposed scheme over the conventional scheme through computer simulations.

  • We propose a highly directional waveguide grating antenna for an optical phased array, achieving high directionality of more than 97% by interleaving the trenches with different etching depths in the silicon nitride layer, and adopting a multilayered structure. Meanwhile, the multilayered structure reduces the perturbation strength, which enables a centimeter-scale radiation length. The beam-steering range is 13.2°, with a wavelength bandwidth of 100 nm. The 1-dB bandwidth of the grating is 305 nm. The multilayered grating structure has a large tolerance to the fabrication variation and is compatible with CMOS fabrication techniques.

  • This paper proposes a high-gain phased array antenna that can provide private network communication services for large office spaces, factories, and other large-scale facilities, specifically designed for millimeter-wave band 5G (5th generation) networks. The proposed antenna features a 4×4 array structure with eight sub-arrays, each consisting of a 1×2 series array. To achieve high side-lobe characteristics, an offset array structure is applied by shifting even-numbered rows by one unit, combined with power tapering to adjust the size of individual radiating elements. This design achieves a high side-lobe level (SLL) of 22.3 dB and a high gain of 18.1 dBi. Additionally, the antenna provides gain characteristics of at least 15.2 dBi and 17.4 dBi within the intended beam steering range of ±45° in the azimuth direction and ±10° in the elevation direction, ensuring smooth communication services over a wide service area.
