  • It is well known that the hydrodynamic forces and moments induced by the proximity of bank in confined waters, such as in a harbour or narrow channel affect ship's maneuvering motion. In this paper, the calculation method based on the slender body theory for estimation of the hydrodynamic force between ship and breakwater is applied, and also, the characteristic features of hydrodynamic force acting on a large vessel in the proximity of a breakwater are described and illustrated. Furthermore, the effects of water depth and the lateral spacing between ship and breakwater are summarized and discussed.

  • The implementation and validation of multi-dimensional (multi-D) features in thermal-hydraulic system codes aims to extend the application of these codes towards multi-scale simulations. The main goal is the simulation of large-scale three-dimensional effects inside large volumes such as piping or vessel. This novel approach becomes especially relevant during the simulation of accidents with strongly asymmetric flow conditions entailing density gradients. Under such conditions, coolant mixing is a key phenomenon on the eventual variation of the coolant temperature and/or boron concentration at the core inlet and on the extent of a local re-criticality based on the reactivity feedback effects. This approach presents several advantages compared to CFD calculations, mainly concerning the model size and computational efforts. However, the range of applicability and accuracy of the newly implemented physical models at this point is still limited and needs to be further extended. This paper aims at contributing to the validation of the multi-D features of the system code ATHLET based on the simulation of the Tests 1.1 and 2.1, conducted at the test facility ROCOM. Overall, the multi-D features of ATHLET predict reasonably well the evolution from both experiments, despite an observed overprediction of coolant mixing at the vessel during both experiments.

The analysis of the correlation in BAZ measurement values and Group(Cerebral Vascular Attack)showed significant differences, the analysis on the correlation of BAZ measurement values and Type(SaSang Constitution Classfication) didn't show any significant differences. 7. In comparison with Actual measurement vales and Voll's measurement values, BAZ measurement values agree with Voll's measurement values but CMP measurement values lower than the Voll's measurement values. Later We have to research further about classifications of race, age, sex etc. The EAV measurement values have Group(Cerebrovascular accident) more correlative than Type(SaSang Constitution Classfication). The EAV may well be that it will be used as an accessory method in SaSang Constitution Classfication and as a diagnostic method in medicine too.

  • Model tests for a stern flap have been performed to decrease the resistance of a large warship and to optimize the flap. Stern flaps and wedges of fast crafts are studied to apply to a large vessel in terms of speed-length ratio. The model tests of the flap has been carried out to find the effects of the design parameters, i.e. length and angie on resistance decrease. This work concludes that the optimized stern flap reduced resistance not only at the high speed by 9% but also at the cruising speed.

  • Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) is a systemic necrotizing vasculitis that predominantly affects small vessels of the body. The two most common ANCAs are myeloperoxidase ANCA and proteinase 3 ANCA. Neurological manifestations are frequent in patients with AAV, including peripheral neuropathy, meningitis, and stroke. AAV-associated ischemic stroke usually affects small vessels supplying the white matter or brainstem. This case report details the presentation and treatment course of a 70-year-old man with rapidly progressive multiple intracranial large artery involvement attributed to myeloperoxidase ANCA-associated vasculitis. Despite treatment with high-dose steroids and a rituximab infusion, the patient developed new speech difficulties and respiratory distress, and brain imaging confirmed new stroke lesions with progressive multiple intracranial large cerebral artery involvement. The patient died from SARS-CoV-2 infection 4 months after the diagnosis. This case emphasized the rare presentation of rapidly progressive large vessel involvement in a patient with myeloperoxidase ANCA-associated vasculitis despite active immunotherapy.

  • The importance of shear thinning non-Newtonian blood rheology on the hemodynamic characteristics of idealized cerebral saccular aneurysms were investigated by carrying out CFD simulations assuming two different non-Newtonian rheology models (Carreau and Ballyk models). To explore effects of vessel curvature, a straight and a curved vessel geometry were considered. The wall shear stress(WSS), relative residence time(RRT) and velocity distribution were compared at the different phases of cardiac cycle. As expected, blood entered the aneurysm at the distal neck and created large vortex in both aneurysms, but with higher momentum on the curved vessel. Hemodynamic characteristics such as WSS, and RRT exhibited only minor effects by choice of different rheological models although Ballyk model produced relatively higher effects. We conclude that the assumption of Newtonian fluid is reasonable for studies aimed at quantifying the hemodynamic characteristics, in particular, WSS-based parameters, considering the current accuracy level of medical image of cerebral aneurysm.

  • We present a case of an acute psoas muscle hematoma following percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy. A 60-year-old female who presented with far lateral lumbar disc herniation underwent endoscopic discectomy on the right side at the L4-5 level. On the second postoperative day, the patient complained of severe right flank and leg pain and her blood pressure decreased. A computed tomography scan showed a large acute psoas muscle hematoma at right L4-5 level. The patient was transfused with packed red blood cells and placed at absolute bed rest. After observing the patient in intensive care, the severe flank and leg pain subsided, but the mild back pain persisted. Although percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy is an effective minimally invasive surgical technique for the treatment of lumbar disc herniation, this case highlights the inherent risks of acute lumbar segmental vessel injury.

  • LNG has significant advantages in regard to environmental aspects comparing with conventional fuel oil. In fact, it is estimated that NOx and SOx emission can be reduced by about 90% and 100%, respectively in case of using LNG as a fuel. LNG-fuelled ship has been considered to be the best option both from an environmental and an economic point of view. Along with these trends, some major shipyards and Classification Societies have started to carry out the risk-based system design for LNG-fuelled ship such as passenger ship, platform supply vessel and large container vessel etc. However, new conceptual gas fuelled ship has high risk level compared with vessel using traditional crude oil especially in view of gas explosion accident. Therefore safety area where installed fuel gas supply system is required risk based system design with special considerations. On this paper, the entire process necessary for the quantitative risk analysis was explained to meet the satisfactory safety level of gas fuelled ship.

  • King Sejong's Striking water-clock which brought in use on the first of July in 1434 was mainly composed of timekeeping and time announcing parts signalling twelve double-hours, and five night-watches and night-watch-divisions automatically by means of ball-operating jackworks. The clock was arranged with dual timekeeping system, the one for a full day(twelve double-hours) and the other for five night-watches achieving twelve double-hours and one-hundred interval horary systems. The vessels were arrayed in inflow-type water-clock, a large reservoir on the highest story, a constant-level tank for supplying water to the measuring vessel evenly in the middle, and the lowest tank to receive water from the above constant-level tank. An indicator-rod on the float was raised upwards depending on the water-level increase to show timing scales and also to release small bronze balls from the ball-rack mechanisms implanted on the measuring vessel to signal timing intervals.
