The meshless adaptive method based on multiple scale analysis is developed to simulate large deformation problems. In the procedure, new particles are simply added to the orginal particle distribution because meshless methods do not require mesh structures in the formulations. The high scale component of the approximated solution detects the localized region where a refinement is needed. The high scale component of the second invariant od Green-Lagrangian strain tensor is suggested as the new high gradient detector for adaptive procedures. The feasibility of the proposed theory is demonstrated by a numerical experiment for the large deformation of hyperelastic materials.
This paper presents an approximate reanalysis methods of structures based on substructuring for an effective optimization of large-scale structural systems. In most optimal design procedures the analysis of the structure must be repeated many times. In particular, one of the main obstacles in the optimization of structural systems are involved high computational cost and expended long time in the optimization of large-scale structures. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate efficiently the structural behavior of new designs using information from previous ones, without solving basic equations for successive modification in the optimal design. The proposed reanalysis procedure is combined Taylor series expansions which is a local approximation and reduced basis method which is a global approximation based on substructuring. This technique is to choose each of the terms of Taylor series expansions as the basis vector of reduced basis method in substructuring system which is one of the most effective analysis of large -scale structures. Several numerical examples illustrate the effectiveness of the solution process.
In this paper, we introduce an efficient new model reduction method, named the automated static condensation method, which is developed for the local analysis of large finite element models. The algebraic multilevel substructuring procedure is modified appropriately, and then applied to the original static condensation method. The retained substructure, which is the local finite element model to be analyzed, is defined, and then the remaining part of the global model is automatically partitioned into many omitted substructures in an algebraic perspective. For an efficient condensation procedure, a substructural tree diagram and substructural sets are established. Using these, the omitted substructures are sequentially condensed into the retained substructure to construct the reduced model. Using several large practical engineering problems, the performance of the proposed method is demonstrated in terms of its solution accuracy and computational efficiency, compared to the original static condensation method and the superelement technique.
A probability density function (PDF) approach to account for turbulence-chemistry interaction in the context of large eddy simulation (LES) based simulation of scramjets is developed. To solve the high-dimensional joint-composition PDF transport equation robustly, the semi-discrete quadrature method of moments (SeQMOM) is recently proposed [1]. The SeQMOM approach addresses key numerical issues in LES related to the inaccuracies in computing filter-scale gradients, enabling an efficient and numerically consistent solution of the PDF transport equation. The computational tool is used to simulate a cavity-stabilized Mach 2.2 supersonic combustor.

The re-bar work in the construction of nuclear power plants is difficult, due to the large diameter and the congestion of reinforcements. The mechanical anchorage offers a potential solution for this problem. However, the requirements or the standards for the shape of anchor plate of mechanical anchor has not been clearly established up to now. In this paper, the required performance of the mechanical anchorage for large diameter reinforcements in nuclear power plants are proposed, and the anchor plates are designed through nonlinear finite element analysis. The diameters of anchor plate are determined to be $\sqrt{5}$ times of reinforcement diameter for longitudinal reinforcements and $\sqrt{10}$ for shear reinforcements. The thickness of anchor plates is optimized as 0.3-0.35 times of reinforcement diameter for longitudinal reinforcements and 0.5~0.56 times for shear reinforcements.

We revisit the arrested Ekman boundary layer problem, using a fully non-linear numerical model with the subgrid dissipation modeled by the large eddy simulation method (LES). The main objective of this study is to find out whether the dynamic balance of the arrested Ekman boundary layer explained by MacCready and Rhines (1991) is valid for high Reynolds number. The model solution indicates that for high Reynolds number and low Richardson number flows, the density anomaly diffusion by near-wall turbulent action may become intense enough to homogenize completely the density structure within the boundary layer, in the direction perpendicular to the sloping wall. Then the buoyancy effect becomes negligible allowing a near-equilibrium Ekman boundary layer flow to persist for a long period.
The process and results of computer simulation using bond graphs for a hydraulic system driving large rotational inertia are presented in this paper. As the large rotational inertia and its application characteristics, control criteria of this system is not position-control nor velocity-control but appropriate acceleration, deceleration and inching ability. All the components' nonlinear characteristics are modelled using bond graphs. The equationing and solution process is carried out by a package. Finally it is concluded that modelling of this kind of system by bond graphs and using a software as its solver shows good approximated results to actual experimental data, and that the proposed modelling may be useful to actual design process for this kind of hydraulic system.

In this paper, we consider the problem of designing decentralized sliding mode static output feedback control laws for a class of large scale systems with mismatched uncertainties. We derive a sufficient condition for the existence of a linear switching surface in terms of constrained linear matrix inequalities(LMIs), and we parameterize the linear switching surfaces in terms of the solution matrices to the given constrained LMI existence conditions. We also give an LMI-based algorithm for designing decentralized switching feedback control laws. Finally, we give a design example in order to show the effectiveness of our method.

A finite element anlaysis is performed for large deformations of a felxible beam. The total Lagrangian formulation for a general large deformation, which involves finite rotations, is chosen and the exponential map is used to treat finite rotations from the Eulerian point of view. The finite elements results are confirmed for several cases of deformations through comparison to a first order elasticity solution obtained by numerical integration, and the agreement between the two is found to be excellent. For lateral buckling, the point of vanishing determinant of the resulting unsymmetric tangent stiffness is traced to examine its relationship to bifurcation points. It is found that the points of vanishing determinant is not corresponding to bifurcation points for large deformation in general, which suggests that the present unsymmetric tangent stiffness is not an exact first derivative of internal forces with respect to displacement.

In this study, a large deflection analysis of a plane frame composed of a thin-walled tube in investigated. When bent, a thin-walled tube is usually controlled by local buckling and subsequent bending collapse of the section. So load resistance reaches the yield level in a thin-walled rectangular tube. This relationship can be divided into three regimes : elastic, post-buckling and crippling. In this paper, this relationship is theoretically presented to be capable of describing nonlinearities and a stiffness matrix is derived by introducing a compound beam-spring element. A numerical analysis uses a constant incremental energy method and the solution is obtained by modifying stiffness matrix at elastic/inelastic stage. This analytical results, load-deflection paths show a good agreement with the test results.
