The aim of this study was to analyze the characteristics of ground subsidence and land-creeping in four mining areas in Korea. Land creeping were occurred by large-scale sinkholes and tensile cracks in the mining areas. This ares showed the shape as large-scale landslides by the collapsed stone debris pushed in the direction of gravity. The rock type in the No. 4 survey area was sandstone and shale, whereas that of other three areas was limestone. The limestone was generally vulnerable to land creeping. The ground subsidence and land creeping in four mining areas were located near the ridge of the mountain. The land creeping by ground subsidence in the mining areas showed complex shapes due to the cavity of underground tunnel and the colluvial debris by gravity in the mountain area, whereas the land creeping in Korea are in the shape of landslide. The average slope of the mining area was ranged from $30.4^{\circ}$ to $33.7^{\circ}$. The values were higher ($1.5^{\circ}{\sim}4.8^{\circ}$) than the average slopes for landslide areas.

With the development of autonomous vehicle, there has been active research on advanced driver assistance system for road marking detection using vision sensor and 3D Laser scanner. However, vision sensor has the weak points that detection is difficult in situations involving severe illumination variance, such as at night, inside a tunnel or in a shaded area; and that processing time is long because of a large amount of data from both vision sensor and 3D Laser scanner. Accordingly, this paper proposes a road marking detection and classification method using single 2D Laser scanner. This method road marking detection and classification based on accumulation distance data and intensity data acquired through 2D Laser scanner. Experiments using a real autonomous vehicle in a real environment showed that calculation time decreased in comparison with 3D Laser scanner-based method, thus demonstrating the possibility of road marking type classification using single 2D Laser scanner.

This paper presents the dimensionless wall distance, y+ effect on SST turbulent model for wind turbine blade. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Phase VI wind turbine was used for the study, which the wind tunnel and structural test data has publicly available. The near wall treatment and turbulent characteristics have important role for proper CFD simulation. Most of the CFD development in this area is focused on advanced turbulence model closures including second moment closure models, and so called Low-Reynolds (low-Re) number and two-layer turbulence models. However, in many cases CFD aerodynamic predictions based on these standard models still show a large degree of uncertainty, which can be attributed to the use of the $\epsilon$-equation as the turbulence scale equation and the associated limitations of the near wall treatment. The present paper demonstrates the y+ definition effect on SST (Shear Stress Transport) turbulent model with advanced automatic near wall treatment model and Gamma theta transitional model for transition from lamina to turbulent flow using commercial ANSYS-CFX. In all cases the SST model shows to be superior, as it gives more accurate predictions and is less sensitive to grid variations.
The aerodynamic effects of leading-edge accretion can raise important safety concerns since the formulation of ice causes severe degradation in aerodynamic performance as compared with the clean airfoil. The objective of this study is to develop a numerical simulation strategy for predicting the particle trajectory around an MS-0317 airfoil in the test section of the NASA Glenn Icing Research Tunnel and to investigate the impingement characteristics of droplets on the airfoil surface. In particular, predictions of the mean velocity and turbulence diffusion using turbulent flow solver and Continuous Random Walk method were desired throughout this flow domain in order to investigate droplet dispersion. The collection efficiency distributions over the airfoil surface in simulations with different numbers of droplets, various integration time-steps and particle sizes were compared with experimental data. The large droplet impingement data indicated the trends in impingement characteristics with respect to particle size ; the maximum collection efficiency located at the upper surface near the leading edge, and the maximum value and total collection efficiency were increased as the particle size was increased. The extent of the area impinged on by particles also increased with the increment of the particle size, which is similar as compared with experimental data.

Most of the major aspects of the high speed rail tunnels in Korea, including such items as the tunnel geometry, excavation methods, primary support, final lining, drainage and waterproofing, are similar to the practices followed in other countries. The tunnels in Korea provide the largest net internal area $(107\;m^2)$ as compared to the other counties addressed in this paper. The effective adaptation and modification of international practices and designs, combined with the integration of domestic practices, has resulted in the successful construction of these large tunnels. The experience gained from the completed work to date on the high speed line in Korea, combined with international technology input, will help to ensure future tunnels are constructed in an efficient manner with adequate design measures implemented for the long-term operational life of the tunnels. As has occurred in these other countries, further improvements and modifications to the Korea high-speed railway tunnels will occur as experience is gained and new technology develops.

There is increasing interest in using structural monitoring as a cost effective way of managing risks once an area of concern has been identified. However, it is challenging to deploy an effective, reliable, large-scale, long-term and real-time monitoring system in an underground railway environment (subway / metro). The use of wireless sensor technology allows for rapid deployment of a monitoring scheme and thus has significant potential benefits as the time available for access is often severely limited. This paper identifies the critical factors that should be considered in the design of a wireless sensor network, including the availability of electrical power and communications networks. Various issues facing underground deployment of wireless sensor networks will also be discussed, in particular for two field case studies involving networks deployed for structural monitoring in the Prague Metro and the London Underground. The paper describes the network design, the radio propagation, the network topology as well as the practical issues involved in deploying a wireless sensor network in these two tunnels.

As the scale factor of model propellers utilized in cavitation test is about 40, it is difficult to find out practical countermeasures against the small area erosions on the blade tip region throughout model erosion tests. In this study, a partial propeller blade model was used for the observation of cavitation pattern for the eroded propeller. A partial propeller blade model was manufactured from 0.7R to tip with expanded profile and with adjustable device of angle of attack. Reynold's number of a partial propeller blade model is 7 times larger than that of a model propeller. Also, anti-singing edge and application of countermeasures to partial propeller blade model which produced in large scale can be more practical than a model propeller. For the observation of cavitation at high Reynold's number, high speed cavitation tunnel was used. To find out the most severe erosive blade position during a revolution, cavitation observation tests were carried out at 5 blade angle positions.

Flow characteristics in a liquid fuel ramjet combustor were investigated using the PIV method. The combustor has two rectangular inlets that form a $90^{\circ}$ angle each other. Three cases of test combustors are made in which those inlet angles are $30^{\circ},\;45^{\circ}\;and\;60^{\circ}$. The experiments were performed in a water tunnel test with the same Reynolds number as Mach 0.3 at the inlet. PIV software was developed to measure the characteristics of the flow field in the combustor. A large and complex recirculating flow was measured in the dome area with 4 different dome size. Experimental results shows that 1/3 dome size of combustor diameter is suitable and smaller inlet angle provide large recirculation flow at the dome of combustor as a frame holder in this experimental ranges but need to consider secondary recirculation flow in a junction region to optimize the configuration of ramjet combustor.
This study performed an on-site demonstration of the topographic surveying technique at a large-scale open-pit limestone mine in Korea using a fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV, Drone, SenseFly eBee). 288 sheets of aerial photos were taken by an automatic flight for 30 minutes under conditions of 300 m altitude and 12 m/s speed. Except for 37 aerial photos in which no keypoint was detected, 251 aerial photos were utilized for data processing including correction and matching, then an orthomosaic image and digital surface model with 7 cm grid spacing could be generated. A comparison of the X, Y, Z-coordinates of 4 ground control points measured by differential global positioning system and those determined by fixed-wing UAV photogrammetry revealed that the root mean squared errors were around 15 cm. Because the fixed-wing UAV has relatively longer flight time and larger coverage area than rotary-wing UAVs, it can be effectively utilized in large-scale open-pit mines as a topographic surveying tool.
In the desert and Gobi regions with strong wind and large sediment discharge, sand transporting engineering is more effective than sand blocking and sand fixing measures in sand prevention. This study uses the discrete phase model of 3D numerical simulation to study the motion trail, motion state and distribution rule of sand particles with different grain diameters when the included angle between the main shaft of the feather-row lateral transportation sand barrier and the wind direction changes, and conducts a comparison in combination with the wind tunnel test and the flow field rule of common sand barrier. According to the comparison, when wind-sand incoming flow passes through a feather-row sand barrier, sand particles slow down and deposit within the deceleration area under the resistance of the feather-row sand barrier, move along the transportation area formed by the transportation force, and accumulate as a ridge at the tail of the engineering. With increasing wind speed, the eolian erosion of the sand particles to the ground and the feather-row sand barrier is enhanced, and the sand transporting quantity and throw-over quantity of the feather-row sand barrier are both increased. When sand particles with different grain diameters bypass the feather-row sand barrier, the particle size of the infiltrating sands will increase with the included angle between the main shaft of the feather-row sand barrier and the wind direction. The obtained result demonstrates that, at a constant wind speed, the flow field formed is most suitable for the lateral transportation of the wind-drift flow when the included angle between the main shaft of the feather-row sand barrier lateral transportation engineering and the wind speed is less than or equal to $30^{\circ}$.
