Comparison of Treatment Outcome Assessment for Class I Malocclusion Patients: Peer Assessment Rating versus American Board of Orthodontics-Objective Grading System

  • Purpose: The purpose of this retrospective study is to investigate the degree of coincidence between the peer assessment rating (PAR) index and American Board of Orthodontics objective grading system (ABO-OGS) in the assessment of orthodontic treatment outcomes of Class I malocclusion cases. Materials and Methods: The sample consisted of 26 Class I patients. The PAR index was used for evaluation of pre-(T0) and posttreatment (T1) casts, and the ABO-OGS for assessment of T1 casts. If there was a reduction in PAR scores from T0 to T1 of more than 30%, the label 'PAR+' was given to the case, and if not, it was labeled 'PAR-'. If the ABO-OGS was less than 27, the label 'OGS+' was given to the case and if not, it was labeled 'OGS-'. 'A PAR-only qualified group' (PAR+), 'ABO-OGS-only qualified group' (OGS+), 'both indices qualified group' (PAR+/OGS+), and 'both indices disqualified group' (PAR-/OGS-) were compared with a Wilcoxon rank-sum test, sensitivity/specifi city test and Spearman's correlation test. Result: PAR scores for T0, T1, and percentage reduction were 21.1, 6.4, and 65.9%, respectively, and 35.4 for ABOOGS. The distribution of the 'PAR+/OGS+', 'PAR+', and 'PAR-/OGS-' group was 19.3%, 76.9%, and 3.8%, respectively. The T0-PAR, T1-PAR and PAR point reductions for the 'PAR+' group were significantly higher than those of 'PAR+/OGS+' groups (23.1 vs. 15.6; 6.7 vs. 4.6; and 16.5 vs. 11.0; all P<0.05). However, the PAR-percentage reduction and treatment duration between the two groups were not statistically different (70.0% vs. 67.0%, P=0.4325; 24.1 months vs. 25.0 months, P=0.4057). The T1-ABO-OGS score for 'PAR+' group was significantly higher than that of the 'PAR+/OGS+' groups (38.2 vs. 24.0, P<0.001). Conclusion: Since the fraction of the 'PAR+/OGS+' group was less than 20% and there was no significant correlation between PAR-percentage reduction and T1-ABO-OGS, development of a new index system for the accurate evaluation of treatment outcome is needed.

Effects of Wine Selection Attributes on Satisfaction and Repurchase Intention -Focused on the Moderating Effect of Wine Involvement- (와인 선택속성이 만족도 및 재구매의도에 미치는 영향 -와인 관여도의 조절효과를 중심으로-)

  • In this study, a survey was carried out on wine consumers over age 20 experienced in wine purchase and drinking from December 1 through December 31, 2011 with the object of figuring out the effects of wine selection attributes on satisfaction and repurchase intention, and making an empirical analysis of the difference depending on involvement in wine. The findings of this study are summarized as follows. The effect of wine selection attributes on satisfaction showed that price, label and wine characteristic had a significant positive effect on satisfaction. The effect of wine selection attributes on repurchase intention showed that locality, price, and wine characteristic had a significant positive effect on repurchase intention. For wine attributes affecting satisfaction, the wine involvement moderated the relationship between locality, price, and satisfaction of wine attributes. And for wine attributes affecting repurchase intention, the wine involvement moderated the relationship between label and repurchase intention of wine attributes. In other words, local characteristics and reasonable prices of the cultivation areas for wine, and indigenous characteristics of wine in quality itself supported the existing preceded findings. And these findings showed the characteristics in that the wine involvement moderates satisfaction and repurchase intention.

Development of the Dissolution Tests for Nafronyl Oxalate Capsules and Tramadol Hydrochloride Capsules (수산나프로닐 캡슐 및 염산트라마돌 캡슐의 용출시험에 관한 연구)

  • The dissolution test method and an analytical procedure by HPLC were developed and validated for nafronyl oxalate capsules and tramadol hydrochloride capsules. These drugs were not yet characterized by the dissolution specifications in the Korean Pharmaceutical Codex. So, with each reference and test drugs, we did the preliminary and standard experiments based on the Korean Pharmacopeia Guideline of dissolution testing for solid oral dosage forms. The dissolution test for nafronyl oxalate capsules was carried out under sink conditions as follows: dissolution medium phosphate buffer pH 6.8, paddle rotation speed 100 rpm and vessel volume 900 ml. More than 80% of its label amount was released within 30 min in this method. Also the dissolution test for tramadol hydrochloride capsules was carried out under sink conditions as follows: dissolution medium water, paddle rotation speed 50 rpm and vessel volume 900 ml. More than 90% of its label amount was released within 15 min in this method. The dissolution samples were analyzed with a validated HPLC analytical procedure. The analytical methodology showed acceptable values in terms of specificity, linearity, precision and accuracy. The dissolution test methods described above were adequate for the purpose and may be proposed as a pharmacopeial standard to assess the performance of nafronyl oxalate capsules and tramadol hydrochloride capsules. Furthermore, the outcomes of this study were expected to help create an environment where safe and high quality drugs would be distributed on the domestic market making contributions to advancing public health.

Model-Based Plane Detection in Disparity Space Using Surface Partitioning (표면분할을 이용한 시차공간상에서의 모델 기반 평면검출)

  • We propose a novel plane detection in disparity space and evaluate its performance. Our method simplifies and makes scenes in disparity space easily dealt with by approximating various surfaces as planes. Moreover, the approximated planes can be represented in the same size as in the real world, and can be employed for obstacle detection and camera pose estimation. Using a stereo matching technique, our method first creates a disparity image which consists of binocular disparity values at xy-coordinates in the image. Slants of disparity values are estimated by exploiting a line simplification algorithm which allows our method to reflect global changes against x or y axis. According to pairs of x and y slants, we label the disparity image. 4-connected disparities with the same label are grouped, on which least squared model estimates plane parameters. N plane models with the largest group of disparity values which satisfy their plane parameters are chosen. We quantitatively and qualitatively evaluate our plane detection. The result shows 97.9%와 86.6% of quality in our experiment respectively on cones and cylinders. Proposed method excellently extracts planes from Middlebury and KITTI dataset which are typically used for evaluation of stereo matching algorithms.

A Study on the Awareness of Female-Consumers for Nutrition Labeling System (영양표시 제도에 대한 여성소비자 인식에 관한 연구)

  • This study had carried out to investigate the usage status of customer, the positive effects and problems, and the most important items of the nutrition labeling at purchasing the food etc. on the current nutrition labeling system in order to establish the customer-centric nutrition labeling system. Survey was carried out by questionnaire method that is targeted on adult female above 20 years old in Seoul and Kyeongnam area from May to June, 2004. For the experience of checking the nutrition label of the processed domestic and imported processed food, 82% and 75.4% of the respondents were replied 'have checked' respectively. For the positive effects due to enforcement of the nutrition labeling system, the respondents agreed highly with 'easy to compare with other products' and 'improve the products quality'. For the problems of the nutrition labeling system, the respondents agreed highly with 'different criteria for each product' and 'incendiary purchasing due to false or exaggerated labeling', and gave the higher scale for the positive effects than the problems relatively. For the necessity of the nutrition labeling system, 96.2% of the respondents were replied 'necessary', and it was indicated a significant difference on age and marital status(p<.01). For the price rising due to enforcement of the nutrition labeling system, 55.2% of respondents agreed, and it was indicated a very significant difference on age and monthly income(p<.001). For the most important nutrition labeling items at purchasing the food, the respondents were replied 'total calorie' on most of the food, and in addition, they checked carefully the lipid, cholesterol, protein, Ca, and Fe.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand women's wear manufacturing industries. First, the study was to investigate the present production systems and how much the automatic facility are by comparing them. This study enhanced more efficient, stable, and suitable work line. This intern will direct the way in which automatic facilities will be created. Second, through this study on the general character of the inspectors, the ratio of impaired goods, and the reasons for unsatisfactory goods, I intended to find out a way to decrease the impaired goods and to produce competitive and high quality goods. The results of the survey can be summarized as follows; 1. The result of the research on the automatic industrial facilities shows that the majority of the factories (77.4%) are 40% below the automatic facility rate. The reasons for this according to order are that was a deficit in money, no reason for expensive machines, and lack of the technique and the number of workers required to handle the machines. 2. At this time, the most required equipments are shown according to its importance; automatic sewing machine, automatic cutting machine, automatic spreading machine, and finishing & pressing machine. So in the women's wear manufacturing industries, they think that they need more automatic cutting machine, automatic spreading machine in the cutting field rather than high price automatic machine in the sewing field such as pattern former, pocket welting, automatic sleeve connecting machine and automatic label connecting machine. 3. The result of the research in the goods quality shows that the average impaired rate is 12.7% at the first inspection. In addition the average rate for complete impaired rate is 1.52%. The line system shows that it has a impaired rate that is double the rate of the pair system. Because of this, the industries plan to combine the line system and pair system to create an improved and suitable production system which can boost the quality and productivity of the goods. 4. The fabric is the main point of the impaired goods. The factors of the impaired goods in manufacturing are the lack of mental abilities of the worker, impaired fabrics and a lack of cooperation in the working system. Furthermore, there is a lack of technique for new material. 5. To prohibit impaired goods in manufacturing, there need to be a way to educate the workers and to enhance the workers' mind on the productive goods. Also there need to increase in the investments of automatic production machines. Finally there need to be a standardized working line. Therefore, there need to be an improvement on the management of the production of goods, the development of technique and an increase in the education for the workers, with this there will be a decrease in impaired goods, and an increase in better quality of goods to enforce the domestic apparel industries.

Consumer Perception, Purchase Behavior and Demand on Ham and Sausage Products (햄.소시지제품에 대한 소비자 의식 및 구매 실태)

  • Consumer survey(n=1,343) was carried out to investigate the consumer's perception, purchase behavior and demand on the processed meat products. Most consumers purchased the ham and sausage products once a month (40.73%). Consumers(47.19%) didn’t distinguish between ham and sausage products due to the similarity of meat contents and additives in products. Consumers(72.75%) considered the product label when they purchased whereas 27.25% of consumers were not interested in the product label. Consumers(47.65%) were not satisfied with ham and sausage products because there were too much additives other than meat, there were many similar processed products in kinds and appearance(27.70%) and they could hardly detect meat taste(11.62%). Consumers demanded to produce the ham and sausage products which contain high meat contents(64.04%). Consumers were favored with establishment of the price differential system depending on the quality based on meat contents in the product(83.54%). In conclusion, the establishment of the price differential system depending on quality as well as the quality grading system for processed meat products is needed not only to increase the processed meat market but also increase the pork consumption especially for non-preferred pork portions.

The Effects of the Food Labeling Home Economics Instruction applying ARCS Motivation Teaching Strategy on Middle School Students' Learning Motivation, Recognition and Use of Food Labels (ARCS 동기유발 전략을 적용한 가정과 식품표시 수업이 중학생의 학습동기와 식품표시에 대한 인식 및 활용도에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of home economics instruction in food labeling using a motivational(ARCS-Attention, Relevance, Confidence, and Satisfaction) strategy to increase middle school students' learning motivation, recognition and use of food labels. To achieve this purpose, teaching-learning plans of food label instruction using a motivation(ARCS) strategy were developed over four class periods using a pretest-posttest experimental design. The experiment was conducted across two groups as follows: 4 experimental groups that received the motivation(ARCS) strategy instruction, and 3 comparative groups that received lecture type instruction. The pretest-posttest scores of the experimental and comparative groups were compared. The 203 data of questionnaires for the experiment were analyzed and evaluated by Analysis of Covariance(ANCOVA) using SPSS Win 12,0. The results of this study were as follows: First, teaching-learning plans, learning materials, and teacher reference materials for the home economics food label instruction that applied the motivation(ARCS) strategy were developed in five subject areas: nutrition labels, food additives, genetically modified food, irradiated food, and food quality verification labels. Second, students' learning motivation of the two groups showed statistically meaningful differences. Home economics instruction using a motivation(ARCS) strategy was more effective in increasing students' learning motivation than lecture type instruction. Third, as a result of ANCOVA which regulated the recognition of food labels in the pre-experimental design, the recognition of food labels in the post-experimental design showed the meaningful differences depending on the instruction style(motivation strategy and lecture type instruction). In addition, comprehensibility, practical use and educational necessity of food label details showed statistically meaningful differences. Home economics instruction using motivation(ARCS) strategy was more effective than lecture type instruction in improving students' recognition of food labeling. Fourth, as a result of ANCOVA which regulated the use of food labels in the pre-experimental stage, the use of food labels in the post-experimental stage showed meaningful differences between experimental and comparative groups depending on the instruction style. Therefore, home economics instruction in food labeling using motivation(ARCS) strategy was more effective than lecture type instruction in increasing students' use of food labels.

Parental Perception and Dietary Behaviors of Preschool Children with Environment-friendly Food Service in Kindergarten (유치원 친환경급식 실시에 따른 학부모의 인식도 및 유아의 식행동)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the differences in households, parental perception, and dietary behaviors of preschool children from kindergartens with environment-friendly food service (environment-friendly food service group; EFG) versus children from kindergartens with general food service (general food service group; GFG). We sought this basic information to examine the impact of environment-friendly agricultural products in preschool food services. Age, education level, and monthly family income of the EFG were significantly higher than the GFG. The frequency of purchasing environment-friendly agricultural products was significantly higher in the EFG than the GFG, with the most frequently purchased items in both groups being vegetables. The GFG had a significantly higher perception than the EFG in the superior quality of environment-friendly agricultural products; however, a greater proportion of the GFG than the EFG thought environment-friendly products were too expensive. The most frequent reason for purchasing environment-friendly agricultural products in both groups was safety. When purchasing environment-friendly agricultural products, the most important selection factor for the majority of both groups was the label certifying quality assurance. Both groups also considered price reduction as essential for promoting environment-friendly agricultural products. In regard to parental perceptions on food service in kindergarten, the EFG had a significantly higher satisfaction with the nutritional adequacy of the menu compared to the GFG. Both groups considered food safety and health as primary reasons for using environment-friendly foods in the preschool food service, with a greater proportion of the EFG than the GFG responding this way. There were significant differences between the EFG and GFG, as the main satisfaction from using environment-friendly foods in the EFG was safety, freshness, and good hygiene, whereas the main satisfaction in the GFG was a good food service menu, freshness and good hygiene. Dietary behaviors of preschool children in the EFG were also significantly superior to the GFG. Thus, environment-friendly agricultural products have positive effects on the dietary behaviors of preschool children and should be increased in the preschool food service. Lowering prices and a strict supervision of quality assurance is also necessary to promote consumption of environment-friendly food materials.

Change of Quality of Life in Children with ADHD after 12 Weeks OROS-Methylphenidate Treatment (12주 OROS-Methylphenidate 약물 치료 후 ADHD 아동의 삶의 질 변화)

  • Objectives : The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of treatment with osmotic-release oral system methylphenidate (OROS-MPH) on quality of life (QOL) in children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Another aim is to assess the relationship between change in QOL and other factors including children's symptoms and academic performance or parents' depression and parenting stress. Methods : A total of 111 medication-naive children with ADHD in a multicenter, open-label, 12-week trial of OROS-MPH completed an evaluation using diverse rating scales at two time points; at baseline and after 12 weeks of treatment. Scales for investigation of children included the Parent Report Form-Children's Health and Illness Profile-Children's Edition (PRF-CHIP-CE) on QOL, the ADHD Rating Scale-IV on symptoms, and the Academic Performance Rating Scale (APRS). The Beck Depression Inventory and Parenting Stress Index were used for assessment of their parents. Results : Total scores for mean PRF-CHIP-CE increased from $207.9{\pm}26.7$ at baseline to $226.3{\pm}25.9$ after 12 weeks of treatment (p<.001). The change of APRS showed the strongest correlation with the increment of PRF-CHIP-CE scores (Pearson coefficient=0.561, p<.001), even after controlling for other factors (partial correlation coefficient=0.420, p<.001). Conclusion : Treatment with MPH-OROS results in improvement of QOL in children with ADHD in Korea. The advance in academic performance plays a key role in this change of QOL.
