  • The design of distrbuted systems is difficult to achieve as the execution patterns of distrbuted systems are typically more complex than those of non- distributed systems. Thus, research toward the development of design methods for distributed systems is quitely needed. As object-oriented systems and distrbuted systems share similar properties, the combination of these two is somehow natural. In this work, a design of distributed systems is introduced. The goal of the method in this paper is to provide assistance to the process of specifying a formal object- oriented specification from graphical representation specification inputs such as data flow diagrams, state transition diagrams and Petri nets. It addresses the extraction of objects, operations and reationshipsfrom the problem domain with emphasis on the specification of the characteristics of distributed systems. This object identification method is supported by a knowledge base that provides for the automated analysis and reasoning about objects and their relationsships. The final object model is represented in a format which provides a formal mechanism for reprsenting the object information.

  • Cost planning practices in the construction industry worldwide has gained much popularity in recent times due to economic recession and stringent measures that various procurement laws prescribe in most developed and developing countries. Nevertheless, these practices in developing countries such as Ghana are constrained with the existence of critical barriers that render them non-effective and hence, accounting for the numerous abandonment of both private and public projects. Consequently, this study was enunciated with the aim to examine the critical barriers to the practice of effective cost planning in the Ghanaian construction industry. Through an in-depth literature review and a pilot survey, questionnaires were designed and administered to quantity surveyors. Data generated from the field survey was subjected to principal component analysis. The findings of the study revealed weak cost planning knowledge base, poor cost databases and understanding, inadequate designs and planning and external conditions are the major barriers to cost planning practices in the Ghanaian construction industry. The need for this study cannot be doubted since it provides an insight for experts in the construction industry on the barriers of the practice of cost planning in the industry. The awareness of these barriers will therefore facilitate efficient and effective efforts to resolve them. A future study is thereby proposed by this study to explore effective cost planning practices in the Ghanaian construction industry that will ensure private and public stakeholders get value for their money invested.

  • Eui Bang Shin Gam("醫方新鑑") is a classic on oriental medicines written by Shin Oh (新塢) Han Byung Lyun (韓秉璉) in 1913. It was written under the base of the writer's own experience as well as in the light of 36 other classics on oriental medicines such as Dong Eui Bo Gam ("東醫寶監"), Eui Hak Yip Mun ("醫學入門"), and Kyung Ak Jeon Seo ("景岳全書"). In an attempt to avoid difficult theories and list only the essential informations and formulas for clinical purposes, it attained its own characteristics of not only reorganizing Dong Eui Bo Gam in a pragmatic way but also explaining diseases classified in western medicines in oriental medicines' point of view as well as suggesting medicine formulas regarding such explanations. As a result, it is a complete and efficient medical classic through which one can gain knowledge in both classic oriental medicines and combination of western and oriental medicines. Its special features are making a separate chapter for cholera and Lao Zhai (勞瘵), which is also a contagious disease, and trying in the chapter to explain the diseases in words of oriental medicines; listing details of nine major epidemic and matching them with the diseases known in oriental medicines; and recording a case of enforcing sterilization and preventive injection against contagious diseases. The basic medical theory in Eui Bang Shin Gam are the yin-yang theory, the thesis of fire and water, the thesis of the exterior and the interior, Yun Qi Lun (運氣論), and four institutions of human body. In explaining the basic theories, the writer emphasized strengthening the yang of the body, under the influence of the thoughts of Zhang Ga Bin (張介賓). Since he put the importance of diagnosis first, the first chapter is about diagnosis. There are five different ways of diagnosing a patient mentioned in the book, and acupuncture, pulse, and medicines was considered crucial.

  • A Cucumber mosaic virus (named CMV-Tr1) isolated from the white clover (Trifolium repens) showing mosaic and malformation that found in a pepper field. Cucumber mosaic virus was identified through confirmation with PT-PCR, PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism, and sequence analysis of coat protein (CP) gene. CMV-Tr1 mosaic symptom on the upper leaves of five tobacco species including Nicotiana benthamiana, Cucumis sativus, Physalis angulata, and Solanum lycopersicon. In Chenopodium quinoa and Vigna unguiculata the isolate showed local lesions in inoculated leaves. CMV-Tr1 compared with CMV-As in the sequence identity of CP gene. CMV-Tr1 showed 98.9% and 99.5% homologies at nucleotide and amino acid levels, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis of the CP gene indicated that CMV-Tr1 belongs to the CMV subgroup IB base on the CP. To our knowledge, this is the first report of CMV in T. repens in Korea.

  • It has been understood that Confucian culture only blocks creative problem solving(CPS). However, it is claimed that Confucian culture exerts positive and negative influence on nurturing CPS. Confucian culture fosters CPS by urging strong motivation for learning, and building rich base of knowledge and skills in general and in specific domains through teaching joy of learning and hardworking fueled by parents' education fever. Confucian culture has negative influence on CPS with emphasis on obedience and conformity. Keju system, as a part of Confucian culture, resulted in excessive private tutoring to prepare for the high-stakes test, delimitation of students' experiences to matters to be tested, and students' weak interest, self-concept, and self-directed learning. Negative influence from Confucian culture on CPS is analyzed and some suggestions are provided for revising educational policies and educational practices in order to maximize the creative problem solving in Confucian countries.

  • The current autonomous vehicle competitions are dominated by a few leading research institutions and universities. Since the leading research groups have been able to accumulate their knowledge and to develop their own algorithms for autonomous vehicle for many years, the technology gap seems too big for other followers to catch up with. On the other hand, recent researches predict that there would be a sharp rise in demand for engineers with background in autonomous vehicle technology. Therefore, it would be warranted to further expand the base of the academia and autonomous vehicle industry. In an effort to achieve this goal, it would be beneficial to hold a new format of autonomous vehicle competition event where undergraduate students can play a leading role. So, this study is to analyze the current autonomous vehicle competitions and thus to establish a strategic plan to develop a unique and improved competition event. This study investigates the pros and cons of the domestic and international autonomous vehicle competitions. Based on the analysis for the current autonomous vehicle competitions, the authors suggest a strategic plan to initiate an autonomous vehicle competition. To implement the aforementioned strategic plan, it is necessary to develop a systematic environment where the education and communication are actively available. Through the strategic plan the authors propose, the newly launching autonomous vehicle competition will able to encourage the undergraduate students and professors to dive in the cutting-edge technology thereby increasing technology competitiveness.

  • Trichomes are specialized epidermal structure having the functions of physical and chemical block against biotic and abiotic stresses. Several studies on $Capsicum$ species revealed that virus and herbivore resistance is associated with trichome-formation. However, there is no research on the structural characterization of trichomes developed on the epidermis of $Capsicum$ spp. Thus, this study attempts to charaterize the trichome morphologies in 5 species of $Capsicum$ using a Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM). Six main trichome types were identified by their morphology under FESEM. Both glandular and non-glandular types of trichomes were developed on the epidermal tissues of $Capsicum$ spp. The glandular trichome were further classified into type I, IV and VII according to their base, stalk length, and stalk. Non-glandular trichomes were also classified into type II, III, and V based on stalk cell number and norphology. Almost all the species in $C.$ $chinense$ and $C.$ $pubescens$ had glandular trichomes. To our knowledge, this is the first study on classification of trichomes in the genus $Capsicum$ and, our results could provide basic informations for understanding the structure and function of trichomes on the epidermal differentiation and association with biotic stress tolerance.

  • The objective of present research works is to investigate the effects of process parameters, including the power of laser, cutting speed, material thickness, and the edge angle, on the melted area in the sharp edge of the cut material fur the case of cutting of a low carbon steel sheet using high-power CW Nd:YAG laser. In order to investigate the influence of edge angle and size of loop on the melted area in the sharp edge, angular cutting tests and loop cutting tests have been carried out. From the results of angular cutting tests, the relationship between the edge angle and the melted area has been obtained. The results of the experiments have been shown that the melted area is rapidly reduced from $120^{\circ}$ of the edge angle and the melted area is nearly zero at $150^{\circ}$ of the edge angle. Through the results of loop cutting experiments, the relationship between the cutting angle on the melted area in the edge according to the size of loop have been obtained. In addition, it has been shown that a proper size of loop is nearly 3 mm as the corner angle is greater than $90^{\circ}$ and 5 mm as the comer angle is less than $90^{\circ}$. The results of above experiments will be reflected on the knowledge base to generate optimal cutting path of the laser.
