CHAINED COMPUTATIONS USING AN UNSTEADY 3D APPROACH FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THERMAL FATIGUE IN A T-JUNCTION OF A PWR NUCLEAR PLANT

  • Thermal fatigue of the coolant circuits of PWR plants is a major issue for nuclear safety. The problem is especially accute in mixing zones, like T-junctions, where large differences in water temperature between the two inlets and high levels of turbulence can lead to large temperature fluctuations at the wall. Until recently, studies on the matter had been tackled at EDF using steady methods: the fluid flow was solved with a CFD code using an averaged turbulence model, which led to the knowledge of the mean temperature and temperature variance at each point of the wall. But, being based on averaged quantities, this method could not reproduce the unsteady and 3D effects of the problem, like phase lag in temperature oscillations between two points, which can generate important stresses. Benefiting from advances in computer power and turbulence modelling, a new methodology is now applied, that allows to take these effects into account. The CFD tool Code_Saturne, developped at EDF, is used to solve the fluid flow using an unsteady L.E.S. approach. It is coupled with the thermal code Syrthes, which propagates the temperature fluctuations into the wall thickness. The instantaneous temperature field inside the wall can then be extracted and used for structure mechanics computations (mainly with EDF thermomechanics tool Code_Aster). The purpose of this paper is to present the application of this methodology to the simulation of a straight T-junction mock-up, similar to the Residual Heat Remover (RHR) junction found in N4 type PWR nuclear plants, and designed to study thermal striping and cracks propagation. The results are generally in good agreement with the measurements; yet, in certain areas of the flow, progress is still needed in L.E.S. modelling and in the treatment of instantaneous heat transfer at the wall.

마코프 체인 몬테카를로 및 앙상블 칼만필터와 연계된 추계학적 단순 수문분할모형 (Stochastic Simple Hydrologic Partitioning Model Associated with Markov Chain Monte Carlo and Ensemble Kalman Filter)

  • Hydrologic models can be classified into two types: those for understanding physical processes and those for predicting hydrologic quantities. This study deals with how to use the model to predict today's stream flow based on the system's knowledge of yesterday's state and the model parameters. In this regard, for the model to generate accurate predictions, the uncertainty of the parameters and appropriate estimates of the state variables are required. In this study, a relatively simple hydrologic partitioning model is proposed that can explicitly implement the hydrologic partitioning process, and the posterior distribution of the parameters of the proposed model is estimated using the Markov chain Monte Carlo approach. Further, the application method of the ensemble Kalman filter is proposed for updating the normalized soil moisture, which is the state variable of the model, by linking the information on the posterior distribution of the parameters and by assimilating the observed steam flow data. The stochastically and recursively estimated stream flows using the data assimilation technique revealed better representation of the observed data than the stream flows predicted using the deterministic model. Therefore, the ensemble Kalman filter in conjunction with the Markov chain Monte Carlo approach could be a reliable and effective method for forecasting daily stream flow, and it could also be a suitable method for routinely updating and monitoring the watershed-averaged soil moisture.

SSARR-8 모형을 이용한 낙동강 수계의 저수유출 해석 (Low Flow Analysis of the Nakdong River Basin by SSARR-8 Model)

  • 낙동강 유역의 저수유출 해석을 위해 IS(integrated snowband) 유역모형이 포함된 SSARR 모형을 적용하였다. IS유역모형은 증발산, 침투 및 장기회귀 지하수 추적기능이 추가된 최신 버전으로서 연물수지분석에 관한 정보가 출력되며 대화식 구동방식인 IA(interactive)방식도 내재되어 있다. 고수시와 저수시 민감한 매개변수를 민감도 분석결과 도출할 수 있었고, 이를 토대로 모형의 보정이 이루어졌다. 7개 제어지점에서 유량의 관측치와 계산치를 비교하여 고수시 상대오차와 저수시 절대오차를 통하여 모형의 검증을 수행하였다. IS 유역모형을 사용하여 월별 물수지 분석을 수행하였다.

  • A number of piping components in the secondary system of nuclear power plants (NPPs) are exposed to aging mechanisms, such as flow-accelerated corrosion (FAC), cavitation, flashing, solid particle erosion, and liquid droplet impingement erosion. Those mechanisms may lead to thinning, leaking, or rupture of the components. Due to the pipe ruptures caused by wall thinning in Surry unit 2 in the USA in 1986 and Mihama unit 3 in Japan in 1994, pipe wall thinning management has emerged as one of the most important issues in the nuclear industry. To manage pipe wall thinning, a foreign program has been utilized for NPPs in Korea since 1996. As our experience and knowledge of pipe wall thinning management have accumulated, our program needs to reflect our experience, requests from users, and the result of recent experiments using Flow Accelerated Corrosion Testing System (FACTS). FACTS is the empirical experimental facility developed by Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) for tests. Accordingly, KEPCO-E&C developed a 3D-based pipe wall thinning management program called ToSPACE in 2016. This paper describes a comparison between the FAC analysis results using ToSPACE and the experimental results using FACTS to verify their applicability to pipe wall thinning management in NPPs.

Strouhal number of bridge cables with ice accretion at low flow turbulence

  • The paper concerns with the method and results of wind tunnel investigations of the Strouhal number (St) of a stationary iced cable model of cable-supported bridges with respect to different angles of wind attack. The investigations were conducted in the Climatic Wind Tunnel Laboratory of the Czech Academy of Sciences in $Tel{\check{c}}$. The methodology leading to the experimental icing of the inclined cable model was prepared in a climatic section of the laboratory. The shape of the ice on the cable was registered by a photogrammetry method. A section of an iced cable model with a smaller scale was reproduced with a 3D printing procedure for subsequent aerodynamic investigations. The St values were determined within the range of the Reynolds number (Re) between $2.4{\cdot}10^4$ and $16.5{\cdot}10^4$, based on the dominant vortex shedding frequencies measured in the wake of the model. The model was oriented at three principal angles of wind attack for each of selected Re values. The flow regimes were distinguished for each model configuration. In order to recognize the tunnel blockage effect the St of a circular smooth cylinder was also tested. Good agreement with the reported values in the subcritical Re range of a circular cylinder was obtained. The knowledge of the flow regimes of the airflow around an iced cable and the associated St values could constitute a basis to formulate a mathematical description of the vortex-induced force acting on the iced cable of a cable-supported bridge and could allow predicting the cable response due to the vortex excitation phenomenon.

소결금속층(燒結金屬層)에서의 압력강화(壓力降下)에 관한 연구(硏究) (A Study on Pressure Drop Through The Porous Metal)

  • 공기(空氣)가 통과(通過)하는 소결금속(燒結金屬)에서의 압력손실(壓力損失)에 대한 기초(基礎) 지식(知識)을 얻기 위하여 실험적(實驗的)으로 연구(硏究)를 수행(遂行)하여, 소결금속(燒結金屬)의 공극율(空隙率)과 소결금속(燒結金屬)을 통과(通過)하는 공기(空氣)의 유속(流速)이 압력손실(壓力損失)에 미치는 영향(影響)을 고찰(考察)하고, 또 본(本) 실험(實驗) 결과(結果)를 비소결금속(非燒結金屬)에서의 압력손실(壓力損失)에 대한 대표적(代表的)인 Ergun의 식(式)과 마찰계수(摩擦係數)의 관점(觀點)에서 비교(比較)하였다. 본(本) 연구결과(硏究結果), 소결금속(燒結金屬)에서의 압력손실(壓力損失)은 유속(流速)이 증가(增加)할 수록 증대(增大)하며, 또 동일 유속(流速)에서는 공극율(空隙率)이 감소(減少)(입자직경(粒子直徑)이 감소(減少))할 수록 증대(增大)한다. 특히 본(本) 실험(實驗) 결과(結果)를 소결금속(燒結金屬)의 두께와 직경(直徑) 및 입자직경(粒子直徑)의 무차원수(無次元數)들로 표현되는 무차원(無次元) 실험식(實驗式)으로 유도(誘導)하였으며, 이 실험식(實驗式)은 본(本) 연구결과(硏究結果)와 ${\pm}15%$ 범위에서 일치하고 있다.

  • EU는 노동이동 자유화를 통해 일자리 창출과 성장을 추구해 왔다. 노동의 자유로운 이동은 노동자에게 새로운 고용기회의 창출과 기술습득의 기회를 제공하여 지속적인 성장을 이끈다. 그러나 경제요소가 불균등하게 분포되어 있는 지리적 공간에서 자유로운 노동이동은 지역간 노동이동의 차별성을 가져오며, 지역적 확대는 새로운 노동이동의 기회를 제공하여 노동이동의 지역적 재분배를 가져온다. EU의 노동이동은 남유럽 국가의 경제성장과 북유럽 국가의 서비스 및 첨단산업화로 남유럽 국가에서 북유럽 국가로의 이동에서 북유럽 국가에서 북유럽 국가로의 이동으로 변화되고 있다. 또한 미숙련 노동자의 이동성은 감소하고 고학력의 전문직 노동자의 이동성은 증가하고 있으며, 이들 고학력 이주자는 북유럽 국가에서 북유럽 국가로 이동하는 경향을 보인다. 반면에 일반 노동자는 남유럽 국가에서 북유럽 국가로, 북부 아프리카에서 남유럽 국가로 이동하는 계층구조를 형성하고 있다.

  • 최근 다양한 공학 응용 분야에 Micro Shock Tube의 중요성이 커지고 있다. Pharma Ballistic 기술은 기존의 약물주입방법과 달리 약물입자를 가속하여 피부로 침투시키기 위해 Micro Shock Tube를 적용하는 기술 중 하나이다. 그러나 이러한 장치의 효율적인 설계를 위해서는 Micro Shock Tube 내부유동과 충격특성에 대한 상세한 지식을 필요로 한다. 경계층과 같은 많은 요소들 때문에 Micro Shock Tube 내부의 낮은 Reynolds Number와 높은 Knudsen Number가 형성되며, 이 때의 충격파 전파는 기존의 Macro Shock Tube와 상이하게 나타난다. 본 연구에서는 Micro Shock Tube에서의 충격파 전파와 유동특성을 조사하기 위해 직경 3mm의 Micro Shock Tube를 이용하여 실험을 수행하였으며, 압력은 저압관의 세 지점에서 측정되었다. 충격파 속도와 같은 다른 변수들의 실험값으로부터 충격파 강도를 찾고 충격파 선도를 나타내었다.

  • In the modern industrial period, the introduction of mass production was most important progress in civilization. Die-casting process is one of main methods for mass production in the modern industry. The aluminum die-casting in the mold filling process is very complicated where flow momentum is the high velocity of the liquid metal. Actually, it is almost impossible in complex parts exactly to figure the mold filling performance out with the experimental knowledge. The aluminum die-castings are important processes in the automotive industry to produce the lightweight automobile bodies. Due to this condition, the simulation is going to be more critical role in the design procedure. Simulation can give the best solution of a casting system and also enhance the casting quality. The cost and time savings of the casting layout design are the most advantage of Computer Aided Engineering (CAE). Generally, the relations of casting conditions such as injection system, gate system, and cooling system should be considered when designing the casting layout. Due to the various relative matters of the above conditions, product defects such as defect extent and location are significantly difference. In this research by using the simulation software (AnyCasting), CAE simulation was conducted with three layout designs to find out the best alternative for the casting layout design of an automotive Oil Pan_BJ3E. In order to apply the simulation results into the production die-casting mold, they were analyzed and compared carefully. Internal porosities which are caused by air entrapments during the filling process were predicted and also the results of three models were compared with the modifications of the gate system and overflows. Internal porosities which are occurred during the solidification process are predicted with the solidification analysis. And also the results of the modified gate system are compared.

인용정보 데이터를 활용한 과학기술 학술정보서비스 개발 (Development of Science Technology Information Service using Citation Information Data)

  • 학술자원의 인용정보는 선행연구로부터 흘러온 지식의 흐름을 담고 있어 관계론적 측면에서 파편화된 연구를 연결할 수 있다. 인용관계 기반의 정보는 연구의 종합적인 흐름을 파악할 수 있어 기존 연구결과를 발전시키거나 관련된 연구 분야를 도출하여 융합연구를 촉진하는 등 연구논문의 새로운 가치를 발견할 수 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 기존 단순 공개수준으로 제공하던 학술문헌 인용정보 데이터를 인용관계를 통해 재생산하여 시계열 기반으로 인용, 피인용 분석을 실시하였다. 추가적으로 인용이 전파되는 과정에 단계를 설정하여 인용 범위를 넓히며 연구의 흐름을 분석 하였다. 이를 통해 인용, 피인용 문헌의 주요 연구 내용을 시계열기반으로 시각화하는 학술정보서비스인 논문타임라인 서비스를 개발하였다. 이는 인용정보가 담고 있는 의미를 전달할 수 있는 서비스로 학술자원을 접근하는 새로운 방법이 될 것이다.
