Construction of Knowledge-based Simulation Environment Using Expert System and Database (전문가 시스템과 데이터 베이스를 사용한 지식 기반 시뮬레이션 환경 구축)

  • As the application domains of rule-based systems become larger and more complicated, the integration of rule-based systems within the database systems has become the topic of many research works. This paper suggests a simulation modeling using expert system and database. The integration methods employed in this research are as follows. First, we defined new states and state transition functions to interrelate simulation model and expert system. Second, we designed and implemented FCL(Fact Class Library) as a interface of expert system and database. FCL has facilities of filtering data from database, and assigning a meaning to the filtered data. Also, FCL detects the violation of the integrity rules in database, as the result of inference is reflected. Some implementation problems are pointed out and the methods to solve these problems are discussed in this paper, We developed a simulation model of the grating production line and executed it to validate the functions of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, the cooperative retrieval system to interface between users and DB, image data and knowledge-based database(KDB), being formed in a linguistic knowledge expression, of system is presented. Conventional database retrieval systems provide the data only in case that the data exactly corresponding with users' requirements exist in these systems, but don't in other cases. In order to resolve this problem, if the data users require are not in existence, this system shows the data and image information which are approximate with knowledge-based database materialized by fuzzy clustering and allocation of linguistic label.

Currently Provided Database Management System of Traditional Korean Medical Knowledge (한의학 전통 지식 데이터베이스 관리 시스템 현황)

  • Objectives: The objective of this study is to investigate and valuate currently provided database management systems (DBMS) of traditional Korean medical knowledge. Methods: We searched DBMS on the web and smart device application markets (Apple App Store and Google Play Store). Key words for searching were 'traditional medicine', 'acupuncture', 'moxibustion', 'herbal medicine', and '한의학'. We looked into each DBMS to find out its scopes and limits, and each was valuated according to its functionality, accessibility, and utility. Results: 186 DBMS of traditional Korean medical knowledge were investigated and 91% of them were applications for smart devices. Almost all DBMS provided acupuncture and herb information, and a small amount of DMBS provided prescription and research paper information. Functionality, accessibility, and utility valuation were performed by using scoring system from 0 to 2. Mean values of functionality, accessibility, and utility were 0.86, 1.29, and 1.09. Conclusions: On the whole, high accessibility and low functionality were found, and various data-calculating functions were not implemented. Further researches and developments about traditional Korean medical knowledge DBMS are necessary to provide correct traditional Korean medical information and to support the studies about Korean medicine.

  • Traditional Knowledge[TK] is a concept which summings up all the knowledge of traditionally inherited, includes traditional medicine, therapy, food and environments. Such traditional knowledge has been perished and neglected through industrial development. We, Korean Institute of Oriental Medicine, promotes digitalization of this traditional knowledge to support and maximize its application, principally in Traditional korean medicine. We can get opportunity of reorganize the traditional knowledge to more practical and available form by this project. And also we introduce briefly its meaning and worth, and seek for application to the study of medical history.

  • The proposal of this paper is the constructing of knowledge database with manufacturing information. This database contains characteristics of workpiece materials, cutting tools, NC machines, manufacturing processes, and work conditions. And all shape in the system are feature models such base plate, step, hole, pocket, boss, and slot. These information generate a final decision for machining process by the expert system.

  • The linear programming model is a special form of useful knowledge that is embedded in a database. Since formulating models from scratch requires knowledge-intensive efforts, knowledge-based formulation support systems have been proposed in the Decision Support Systems area. However, they rely on the assumption that sufficient domain knowledge should already be captured as a specific knowledge representation form. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to propose a methodology that finds useful knowledge on building linear programming models from a database. The methodology consists of two parts. The first part is to find s first-cut model based on a data dictionary. To do so, we applied the General Problem Solver(GPS) algorithm. The second part is to discover a second-cut model by applying neural network technique. An illustrative example is described to show the feasibility of the proposed methodology.

  • The production technology is the basic of manufacturing for various materials and components. This technology can influence the quality and productivity of leading export products such as automobile, ship, and electronic device. Besides, the production technology is very useful to apply to other manufacturing fields and has a great ripple effect. However, it is very difficult to make the production technology into standardization and knowledge-based database because the production technology is dependent in hands-on experience. In this study, the knowledge-sharing platform for the molding & forming technology which is a branch of the production technology is introduced. This platform is web-based system and has the knowledge authoring tool technologies storage, semantic database, and web portal service. Therefore, the molding & forming technology can be shared and spread easily by the knowledge-sharing platform.

  • The objective of manufacturing knowledge sharing platform is to convert the production experience like a worker's know-how into quantitative values, to construct database of the process technologies and to share the technologies systematically via web portal service. In addition, the knowledge sharing platform contains the total production processes of automobile and mobile products such as information of experts, facilities, and cutting-edge R&D outputs. Automobile, telecommunication mobile, and semiconductors account for a large amount of Korea's export industry rate. These industries need production technology which is a result of converting worker's know-how and R&D. Manufacturing knowledge portal aims to enable transforming production experience such as worker's know-how into standardized form for constructing database and sharing technologies systematically. Manufacturing knowledge portal can contribute to small and mid-sized manufacturing companies with further improvements.

  • Grinding operation has difficulty in satisfying the qualitative knowledge based on the skilful expert as well as the quantitative data for all user. Design of grinding database based on the frame-based model is more effective method for utilizing the empirical and qualitative knowledge. In this paper. basic strategy to develop the grinding database by taking frame-based model, which is strongly dependent upon experience and intuition, is described. Grinding database based on the frame based model for designing the interaction and inference among the slots is accomplised by the object-oriented paradigm system.

  • Objectives : In the WIPO conference about the protection of intellectual property for traditional knowledge (TK) and genetic resources (GR), there was a demand concerning the necessity of recognizing the invention of TK and GR and the foundation of a related database. Methods : In the standard of the foundation of a database, the content and resource identification standards, the technological standards and the security and transmission standards were discussed. In a decision on intellectual property, it means the protection and recognition as a technology precedent of the materials of the database. Results : Massive material on traditional medical care technology in Korea has existed in many areas. However, it is hard to make a database because it is difficult to organize and find the data. In addition, a database demanded by WIPO is not only the material of images or texts of simple technology information, but also the use of patent decisions about traditional knowledge technology and the public sharing of information in related areas. A traditional medical care database would consist of the core of a subject and the related areas. The core part is the medical herb resource and Oriental clinical technology. Conclusions : These are necessary to detail the kind of medicines and prescriptions, their use, and their processing. In the related areas, it needs to detail PIAS and clinical data in regarding the industrialization. These DB have to protect the TK and the GR of Korea.
