Literature Review: Pedagogical Content Knowledge as Specialized Knowledge for Teaching

  • During the last two decades, many researchers have attempted to understand pedagogical content knowledge (PCK). Now it is time to think about how to apply the theoretical aspects of PCK to practice. In an attempt to address this issue, it is indispensable to review the existing literature on teachers' knowledge bases and PCK. Therefore, the purposes of this paper are to look at how the concept of PCK has been developed and extended over the past two decades as well as to provide a shared understanding of PCK for the practical use of this concept in teacher education programs. The paper begins with a discussion of various models of teachers' knowledge as conceptualized by several renowned researchers, moves on to a review of existing research focusing on the knowledge of science teachers, then examines the literature on PCK as a critical part of teachers' professional knowledge, and finally concludes with an integrated operational definition of PCK that can be employed into designing teacher education programs.

  • The verification phase of knowledge base is an important part for developing reliable expert systems, especially in nuclear industry. Although several strategies or tools have been developed to perform potential ewer checking, they often neglect the reliability of verification methods. Because a Petri net provides a uniform mathematical formalization of knowledge base, it has been employed for knowledge base verification. In this work, we devise and suggest an automated tool, called COKEP (Checker Of Knowledge base using Extended Petri net), for detecting incorrectness, inconsistency, and incompleteness in a knowledge base. The scope of the verification problem is expanded to chained errors, unlike previous studies that assumed error incidence to be limited to rule pairs only. In addition, we consider certainty factor in checking, because most of knowledge bases have certainty factors.

  • This paper describes an effective knowledge acquisition method in the fault diagnosis expert system for the electronic switching system TDX-1A. The knowledge acquisition procedure consists of the knowledge collection, the fault diagnosis modeling and the knowledge representation. Furthermore, to improve the performance of the knowledge bases with rule and frame representation, we showed the knowledge base checking methodlogy by using redundancy and inconsistency check algorithm.

  • The adoption of expert systems mainly as operator supporting systems is becoming increasingly popular as the control algorithms of system become more and more sophisticated and complicated.   • Selection procedures of earth retention systems are increasingly complex and directly related to the serviceability of the retaining structure selection systems since significant changes in earth retention technology motivates the review of design, and selection processes of earth retaining structures. Collection and classification of retaining structure selection knowledge are key issues because two expert groups, geotechnical and structural engineers, are mainly involved in the retaining structure selection. The course of natural tendency of expert knowledge are investigated considering the decision factors. The decision factors for selecting retaining structures are divided into four categories: application of the structure, and spatial, behavior, and economic constraints.

  • 과학-기술-사회에서의 창의력 교육은 창의적 사고의 과정과 과학적 지식 발달 이론에 근거하여 기존의 창의력 개발 교육보다 진일보한 방식으로 이루어져야 할 것이며 영재아를 위한 창의력 개발 교육의 구체적인 방안과 실천이 요구되고 있다. Wallas, Weisberg 등의 의해 창의적 사고 과정에 대한 논의가 이루어져 왔으나 최근 Finke 등에 의해 창의적 사고과정으로서 ‘생성단계’와 ‘탐구단계’로 구성된 GENEPLORE 사고 과정이 제안되었다. 또한, 창의력은 기반 지식의 영향으로 발휘된다는 연구들이 대두되어 왔음에도 불구하고, 지식발달론에 근거한 창의력 교육 문제는 논의 수준에 그치고 있다. Piaget(1977), Gallagher(1981) 등은 지식발달이 경험적 추상과 반성적 추상의 과정에 기초하여 이루어지고 있음을 이론적 및 실증적으로 규명해 낸 바 있으며 최근 인지과학 분야의 연구성과는 지식발달의 과정을 다루는데 초점 맞추어지고 있다. 이 연구에서는 컴퓨터, 네트웍, 바이오텍, 로봇, E-비즈니스, E-교육, E-건강, 나노텍, 오락 등의 과학-기술-사회 주제를 중심으로 영재아를 위한 ‘개인과 창의적 사고 방법 및 사횔 및 과학기술을 통합적으로 다루는 창의적 사고 모형을 개발’하였으며, 구체적인 프로그램 내용구성을 소개하였다.

신경 텐서망을 이용한 컨셉넷 자동 확장 (Automatic Expansion of ConceptNet by Using Neural Tensor Networks)

  • 컨셉넷은 일반상식을 노드(개념)와 에지(관계)로 표현해 놓은 그래프 형태의 지식 베이스이다. 완전한 지식 베이스를 구축하는 것은 매우 어려운 문제이기 때문에 지식 베이스는 미완결된 형태의 데이터를 담고 있는 경우가 많다. 불완전한 지식을 담고 있는 지식 베이스로부터의 추론 결과는 신뢰하기 어렵기 때문에 지식의 완결성을 높이기 위한 방법이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 신경 텐서망을 이용하여 컨셉넷의 지식 미완결성 문제를 완화해 보고자 한다. 컨셉넷에서 추출한 사실주장(assertion)을 이용하여 신경 텐서망을 학습시킨다. 학습된 신경 텐서망은 두 개의 개념 정보를 입력으로 받고, 그 두 개념이 특정 관계로 연결될 수 있는지를 나타내는 점수값을 출력한다. 이와 같이 신경 텐서망은 노드들의 연결 차수(degree)를 높여, 컨셉넷의 완결성을 증대시킬 수 있다. 본 연구에서 학습시킨 신경 텐서망은 평가데이터에 대해서 약 87.7%의 정확도를 보였다. 또한 컨셉넷에 연결이 없는 노드 쌍에 대하여 85.01%의 정확도로 새로운 관계를 예측할 수 있었다.

Efficient Knowledge Base Construction Mechanism Based on Knowledge Map and Database Metaphor

  • Developing an efficient knowledge base construction mechanism as an input method for expert systems (ES) development is of extreme importance due to the fact that an input process takes a lot of time and cost in constructing an ES. Most ES require experts to explicit their tacit knowledge into a form of explicit knowledge base with a full sentence. In addition, the explicit knowledge bases were composed of strict grammar and keywords. To overcome these limitations, this paper proposes a knowledge conceptualization and construction mechanism for automated knowledge acquisition, allowing an efficient decision. To this purpose, we extended traditional knowledge map (KM) construction process to dynamic knowledge map (DKM) and combined this algorithm with relational database (RDB). In the experiment section, we used medical data to show the efficiency of our proposed mechanism. Each rule in the DKM was characterized by the name of disease, clinical attributes and their treatments. Experimental results with various disease show that the proposed system is superior in terms of understanding and convenience of use.

The Effect of Interactivity between KIBS Firms and Customers on Innovations in KIBS Firms

  • In today's dynamic and hypercompetitive business environment, knowledge and innovation have emerged as bases for sustained competitive advantage. This paper addresses two specific research questions. First, we ask, "What is the effect that firm interactivity has on various types of innovation?" As we address this question, we explain that interactivity helps firms create knowledge, which then promotes and enables innovation. Second, we ask, "How do the various types of innovation impact firm performance?" We develop a research model and a set of hypotheses from the basis of organizational knowledge creation theory and the knowledge-based view of the firm. We test this model using survey data, and find that interactivity is positively associated with innovation. We also find that several types of innovation, including service innovation, process innovation, and organizational innovation have a positive impact on firm performance.

  • The construction of the students knowledge in e-Learning systems, namely the student modeling, is a core component used to develop e-Learning systems. However, existing e-Learning systems have many problems to share the knowledge in a heterogeneous student model and a distributed knowledge base. Because the methods of the knowledge representation are different in each e-Learning systems, the accumulated knowledge cannot be used or shared without a great deal of difficulty. In order to share this knowledge, existing systems must reconstruct the knowledge bases. Consequently, we propose a new a Case Markup Language based on XML in order to overcome these problems. A distributed e-Learning systems fan have the advantage of easily sharing and managing the heterogeneous knowledge base proposed by CaseML. Moreover students can generate and share a case knowledge to use the communication protocol of agents. In this paper, we have designed and developed a CaseML by using a knowledge markup language. Furthermore, in order to construct an intelligent e-Learning systems, we have done our research based on the design and development of the intelligent agent system by using CaseML.
