Effects of Fiber Contents and Loop Length of Weft Knit on Subjective Texture and Preference-Using SEM- (위편성물의 혼용률 및 편환장이 주관적 질감과 선호도에 미치는 영향 -구조방정식 이용-)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the relationship model among subjective texture and preference of weft knit according to fiber contents of wool/rayon and loop length by integrating previous research work. SPSS and SEM method using AMOS program were used to analyze data which used to correlation matrix to be standardized. The texture of weft knit were classified into 4 categories: irregularity, flexibility, bulkiness, extensibility. The fiber contents of wool/rayon had effect positively on irregularity, bulkiness and extensibility and that had little effect on preference. The loop length had effect positively on irregularity, flexibility and extensibility and that had effect negatively on preference. This measurement model will be input for testing causal research model that can explain how fiber contents of wool/rayon and loop length of weft knit influence on subjective texture.

  • Knit industry requires versatile knit designers who have to control whole process such as material select, color, type of machine, technique, structure and shape. In other words, knit designers urgently need to interplay between technology and design aesthetics. It becomes essential to learn and master basic principles of knitting in order to design and develop effectively for innovative knitwear design. The main purpose of this study is to show fresh methodology through examining the various applications of 'Stitch transfer knitting structure' used in women's knitwear design development. Stitch transfer knitting structure is one of the most popular techniques among various basic knitting methods. Eight knitwears were designed and produced with various types of formative applications which differ from existent stitch transfer knitwears of flat and simple style in the market. These are produced by computer knitting machine 'Shima Seiki 122S' and programmed by 'Knit CAD' software. Among various basic stitch transfer pattern, 'Leaf' pattern is selected as a most effective example for this study. This fabric applied to collar, sleeves, body pattern and accessories as formative decoration. It is expected that this study of methodology helps to get open mind and to indicate possibility to develop and show creative and innovative knitwear and knitted textile design.

Physical Properties of Various Structured Knitted Fabrics (니트의 편성조직에 따른 물성 평가)

  • This study analyzed the effects of the knit stitch type, fiber composition, and yarn thickness on the mechanical properties of knitted fabric. The results were as follows: The course density was the highest in the case of the rib stitch. On the other hand, the wale density was the highest in the case of the float stitch. The thickness was the highest in the case of the rib stitch. The same results were obtained even for different fiber compositions and yarn thicknesses considered in this study. The burst strength of wool knit fabric was higher than that of A/W knit fabric. The stiffness was the lowest in the case of the plain stitch. The same results were obtained even for different fiber compositions and yarn thicknesses. The pilling properties were excellent for all knit stitches, fiber composition, and yarn thicknesses as pilling degree : 5. The air permeability decreased in the following order : rib > plain > float stitch. The same results were obtained even for different fiber compositions and yarn thicknesses. The heat retention rate decreased in the following order : rib > float > plain stitch. The same results were obtained even for different fiber compositions and yarn thicknesses.

  • Viscose rayon is not a thermoplastic yarns, but it was deformed with the heat in this study. Therefore, bulky rayon yarn was developed by modifying the shrinkage for rayon and reviling the micro crimp of the rayon, and finally, span knit was developed with bulky rayon yarns.

  • For identifying how a sample knit fabric is woven a method to obtain positional information of each yarn of the sample from voxel data made out of its x-ray CT images is newly proposed in this paper. The positional information is obtained by tracing the each yarn. The each yarn is traced by estimating a direction of the yarn in a certain small region in which the yarn can be regarded as straight and moving the region slightly along the estimated direction alternately. The yarn direction is estimated by correlating the voxel data in the region with a three-dimensional yarn model. The effectiveness of this method is confirmed by applying the method to voxel data made out of CT images of a knit fabric experimentally.

The Effect of Chitosan Treatment on Cotton Knits Dyed with Bamboo Charcoal (대나무 숯 염색직물의 키토산 처리 효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of chitosan treatment on the bamboo charcoal dyed cotton knit. The K/S, CIE $L^*$, $a^*$, $b^*$ and Munsell values of dyed and chitosan treated samples were measured. As chitosan treatment concentration increased, dye uptake decreased progressively. The chitosan treated cotton knit showed a red tone and a yellow tone on the Munsell color system. The antibacterial property, deodorization performance, moisture regain, thermal transmittance property were improved by chitosan treatment. The bamboo charcoal dyed and chitosan treated cotton knit showed high colorfastness to dry cleaning and washing.

Studies on the Cylindrical Shell Buckling of Weft Knit (편성물의 원통형 좌굴에 관한 연구)

  • This is a study on the application of cylindrical shell buckling to weft plain stitch-knit fabrics made of cotton ems, which are related to bending deformations affecting textile products, especially hands and wrinkles of shell type apparel. Following conclusions were derived from the studies of cylindrical shell buckling under axial compressions and from the considerations of applicability of buckling theories to typical orthotropic knit fabric supposing as thin homogenous isotropic shell. 1. An apparatus for preparing and clamping specimens, and experimental methods were designed to be possible to measure cylindrical shell buckling properties under the action of uniform axial compression with a general strength tester. 2. Comparing the tendencies of critical buckling stresses to the various yarn numbers and cover factors of weft knit fabrics with the theoretical critical buckling stresses, the absolute values were found to be about 60℃ of theoretical values. 3. Bending stiffnesses calculated with the young's modulus obtained from buckling experiments were found to be fitted approximately with the results form pure bending tester.

A Study on the Slacks Materials for the Handicapped Children (지체장애아동의 하의소재에 관한연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the suitability of several knit fabrics for the hadicapped children's slacks. After the observation and wearing test abrasion resistance pilling liquid water transport properties and heat transport properties of the fabrics were tested. As specimens cotton/polypropylene interlock knits and sweat absorbent polyester knit fabric were selected and compared to the cotton denim and wool fabrics. As a result of observation test importance of extensibility durability and comfort related properties were recognized. Through the wearing test depending on the handicap type and orthoses different location and grade of pilling were observed. Knit fabrics used in this experiment were as durable as woven fabrics and showed excellent heat and liquid water transport properties. It was concluded therefore that cotton/polypropylene and sweat absorbent polyester knit fabrics are suitable materials for handicapped children's slacks.

  • A theoretical formula based on a newly established knit unit model of three dimensional structure has been derived in order to predict the stitch length of a sinker pile warp knit fabric. In this formula. stitch length of the fabric is expressed as the functions of wale and course spacing, yarn diameter and pile height which are usually used in the knitting mills for production and quality control. And the possibility of the modification of the existing formulas, proposed for ordinary warp knit fabrics was also discussed. Comparison of the existing theoretical values with the experimental ones revealed that the most satisfactory results were obtained from the new modified derived theoretical formula.
