Analysis and Response of SSH Brute Force Attacks in Multi-User Computing Environment (다중 사용자 컴퓨팅 환경에서 SSH 무작위 공격 분석 및 대응)

  • SSH provides a secure, encrypted communication channel between two end point systems using public key encryption. But SSH brute force attack is one of the most significant attacks. This kind of attack aims to login to the SSH server by continually guessing a large number of user account and password combinations. In this paper, we analyze logs of SSH brute force attacks in 2014 and propose a failed-log based detection mechanism in high performance computing service environment.

A novel grey TMD control for structures subjected to earthquakes

  • A model for calculating structure interacted mechanics is proposed. A structural interaction model and controller design based on tuned mass damping (TMD) was developed to control the induced vibration. A key point is to introduce a new analytical model to evaluate the properties of the TMD that recognizes the motion-dependent nonlinear response observed in the simulations. Aiming at the problem of increased current harmonics and low efficiency of permanent magnet synchronous motors for electric vehicles due to dead time effect, a dead time compensation method based on neural network filter and current polarity detection is proposed. Firstly, the DC components and the higher harmonic components of the motor currents are obtained by virtue of what the neural network filters and the extracted harmonic currents are adjusted to the required compensation voltages by virtue of what the neural network filters. Then, the extracted DC components are used for current polarity dead time compensation control to avert the false compensation when currents approach zero. The neural network filter method extracts the required compensation voltages from the speed component and the current polarity detection compensation method obtains the required compensation voltages by discriminating the current polarity. The combination of the two methods can more precisely compensate the dead time effect of the control system to improve the control performance. Furthermore, based on the relaxed method, the intelligent approach of stability criterion can be regulated appropriately and the artificial TMD was found to be effective in reducing cross-wind vibrations.

Feasibility study of a resistive-type sodium aerosol detector with ZnO nanowires for sodium-cooled fast reactors

  • In sodium systems, leakage is one of the safety concerns; it can cause chemical reactions, which may result in fires. There are contact and non-contact types of leak detectors, and the conventional method of non-contact type detection is by gas sampling. Because of the complexity of this method, there has always been a need for a simple gas sensor, and the resistive-type nanostructure ZnO sensor is a promising option with various advantages. In this study, a ZnO sensor was fabricated, and the concept was tested as a leak detector using a dedicated experiment facility. The experiment results showed distinctive changes in resistance with the presence of sodium aerosol under various conditions. Replacing the conventional gas sampling with the ZnO sensors is expected to enable identification of the leakage location if used as a point-wise instrumentation and to greatly reduce the total cost, making the system simple, light, and effective. For further study, more tests will be performed to evaluate the sensitivity of key parameters under various conditions.

Underdetermined Blind Source Separation from Time-delayed Mixtures Based on Prior Information Exploitation

  • Recently, many researches have been done to solve the challenging problem of Blind Source Separation (BSS) problems in the underdetermined cases, and the “Two-step” method is widely used, which estimates the mixing matrix first and then extracts the sources. To estimate the mixing matrix, conventional algorithms such as Single-Source-Points (SSPs) detection only exploits the sparsity of original signals. This paper proposes a new underdetermined mixing matrix estimation method for time-delayed mixtures based on the receiver prior exploitation. The prior information is extracted from the specific structure of the complex-valued mixing matrix, which is used to derive a special criterion to determine the SSPs. Moreover, after selecting the SSPs, Agglomerative Hierarchical Clustering (AHC) is used to automaticly cluster, suppress, and estimate all the elements of mixing matrix. Finally, a convex-model based subspace method is applied for signal separation. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can estimate the mixing matrix and extract the original source signals with higher accuracy especially in low SNR environments, and does not need the number of sources before hand, which is more reliable in the real non-cooperative environment.

Damage detection for beam structures using an angle-between-string-and-horizon flexibility matrix

  • The classical flexibility difference method detects damage by observing the difference of conventional deflection flexibility matrices between pre- and post-damaged states of a structure. This method is not able to identify multiple damage scenarios, and its criteria to identify damage depend upon the boundary conditions of structures. The key point behind the inability and dependence is revealed in this study. A more feasible flexibility for damage detection, the Angle-between-String-and-Horizon (ASH) flexibility, is proposed. The physical meaning of the new flexibility is given, and synthesis of the new flexibility matrix by modal frequencies and translational mode shapes is formulated. The damage indicators are extracted from the difference of ASH flexibility matrices between the pre- and post-damaged structures. One feature of the ASH flexibility is that the components in the ASH flexibility matrix are associated with elements instead of Nodes or DOFs. Therefore, the damage indicators based on the ASH flexibility are mapped to structural elements directly, and thus they can pinpoint the damaged elements, which is appealing to damage detection for complex structures. In addition, the change in the ASH flexibility caused by damage is not affected by boundary conditions, which simplifies the criteria to identify damage. Moreover, the proposed method can determine relatively the damage severity. Because the proposed damage indicator of an element mainly reflects the deflection change within the element itself, which significantly reduces the influence of the damage in one element on the damage indicators of other damaged elements, the proposed method can identify multiple damage locations. The viability of the proposed approach has been demonstrated by numerical examples and experimental tests on a cantilever beam and a simply supported beam.

Detection of Nearest Points without Obstacle Segmentation using Active Min-Depth Filter (Active Min-Depth Filter를 이용한 비분할 장애물 최근접 점 검출)

  • In autonomous robots, obstacle avoidance is a key feature. Potential Field is the most widely used method in this field. Such method requires real-time calculation of the nearest point of the obstacle from the robot, which involves difficulty of reliably segmenting the obstacle region from the distance sensor data profile. In this paper, Active Min-Depth Filter is introduced to obtain the nearest point of each obstacle using real-time calculation but without segmentation. Through simulations on various sensor noise environments, the robustness of the Active Min-Depth Filter could be confirmed, and successful results were obtained by applying real-world moving robots.

  • In the case of personal information files containing personal information, there is insufficient awareness of personal information protection in end-point areas such as personal computers, smart terminals, and personal storage devices. In this study, we use Diffie-Hellman method to securely retrieve personal information files generated by web crawler. We designed SEED and ARIA using hybrid slicing to protect against attack on personal information file. The encryption performance of the personal information file collected by the Web crawling method is compared with the encryption decryption rate according to the key generation and the encryption decryption sharing according to the user key level. The simulation was performed on the personal information file delivered to the external agency transmission process. As a result, we compared the performance of existing methods and found that the detection rate is improved by 4.64 times and the information protection rate is improved by 18.3%.

  • Recently, automated solutions using collaborative robots have been emerging in various industries. Their primary functions include Pick & Place, Peg in the Hole, fastening and assembly, welding, and more, which are being utilized and researched in various fields. The application of these robots varies depending on the characteristics of the grippers attached to the end of the collaborative robots. To grasp a variety of objects, a gripper with a high degree of freedom is required. In this paper, we propose a service automation system using a multi-degree-of-freedom gripper, collaborative robots, and vision sensors. Assuming various products are placed at a checkout counter, we use three cameras to recognize the objects, estimate their pose, and create grasping points for grasping. The grasping points are grasped by the multi-degree-of-freedom gripper, and experiments are conducted to recognize barcodes, a key task in service automation. To recognize objects, we used a CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) based algorithm and point cloud to estimate the object's 6D pose. Using the recognized object's 6d pose information, we create grasping points for the multi-degree-of-freedom gripper and perform re-grasping in a direction that facilitates barcode scanning. The experiment was conducted with four selected objects, progressing through identification, 6D pose estimation, and grasping, recording the success and failure of barcode recognition to prove the effectiveness of the proposed system.

Feedback Active Noise Control Based Voice Enhancing Ear-Protection System

  • This paper proposes a voice enhancing ear-protection system which is based on feedback active noise control(FBANC). The proposed system selectively suppresses the background noise and preserves the talking voice by controlling the adaptive algorithm with the voice activity period detection module. The noise reduction performance of the proposed noise canceling algorithm is analytically derived for the two key performance affecting parameters, i.e., electro-acoustic coupling distance and noise bandwidth. The proposed system is also implemented with a floating-point DSP system and its performance is experimentally tested to compare with the analytically derived results. The achieved levels of noise reduction for the three different noise bandwidths cases, i.e., 10Hz, 50Hz, and 90Hz, are high to show 17.05dB, 10.54dB and 8.99dB, respectively. The feasibility of the proposed system is also shown by the peak noise reduction achieved more than 25dB while preserving the voice component in the frequency range between 200-800Hz.

Economic Appraisal of Telemedicine (원격진료시스템의 경제성 분석)

  • Telemedicine can increase accessibility to advance medical technology at the university hospital for community residents living in a remote area. This paper focused on the economic evaluation of telemedicine to identify important factors influencing costs and benefits and to understand how these factors can be changed to improve economic performance of the telemedicine. When the telemedicine project currently operating in Korea was evaluated based on the traditional cost-benefit analysis, the results showed a heavy net loss wiht a B/C ration of 0.56. As several values were added to the analysis based on the Information Economics approach, B/C ratios steadly increased. When the saving of medical expenses from the early detection of diseases was taken into a consideration, the ration exceeded the break-even point. >From the sensitivity analysis, a number of patients and the cost for equipment and communication were found to be the key factors for influencing economic performance of telemedicine.
