  • In order to establish the optimum drying temperature of the heated air blast-grain circulation dryer, a 2 ton scale of paddy was used in this experiment. The temperatures of heated air used were 45, 50, 55, 60, 65 and $70^{\circ}C$. Moisture content of the paddy was reduced to 15% from 24% by drying. The higher air temperature, the shorter drying time and the less fuel consumed. The portion of cracked kernels was found to be low as $3{\sim}10%\;at\;40{\sim}55^{\circ}C$, but was very high to $28{\sim}30%\;at\;60{\sim}70^{\circ}C$. The germination percent was very high as 98 and 93% at 40 and $45^{\circ}C$, but it was decreased to 86 and 30% at 50 and $70^{\circ}C$, respectively. The recovery yield of milled rice from paddy was decreased by 1.76, 2.63 and 7.52% at 60, 65 and $70^{\circ}C$, respectively, compared with 75.86% as drying at $40^{\circ}C$. The higher heated air temperature, the less head rice of milled rice was recovered, and the decreased ratio was increased $60^{\circ}C$. The higher heated air temperature, the less alkali disintergation value and gel consistency of milled rice and the more water up take, expanded vlume, total solid in residual liquid and intensity of starch iodine blue value of residual liquid, and those tendency was found clear from $60^{\circ}C$ temperature of heated air.

  • This paper presents a unified framework to efficiently and realistically simulate surface and wave foams. The framework is designed to first project 3D water particles from an underlying water solver onto 2D screen space in order to reduce the computational complexity of determining where foam particles should be generated. Because foam effects are often created primarily in fast and complicated water flows, we analyze the acceleration and curvature values to identify the areas exhibiting such flow patterns. Foam particles are emitted from the identified areas in 3D space, and each foam particle is advected according to its type, which is classified on the basis of velocity, thereby capturing the essential characteristics of foam wave motions. We improve the realism of the resulting foam by classifying it into two types: surface foam and wave foam. Wave foam is characterized by the sharp wave patterns of torrential flow s, and surface foam is characterized by a cloudy foam shape even in water with reduced motion. Based on these features, we propose a technique to correct the velocity and position of a foam particle. In addition, we propose a kernel technique using the screen space density to efficiently reduce redundant foam particles, resulting in improved overall memory efficiency without loss of visual detail in terms of foam effects. Experiments convincingly demonstrate that the proposed approach is efficient and easy to use while delivering high-quality results.

  • A single cross hybrid, Heukjinjuchal, is a black color waxy corn (Zea mays L.) developed by the maize breeding team at NICS in 2008. Heukjinjuchal was produced by crossing two inbred lines, KBW24 as seed parent and KBW2 as pollen parent. Ear length and ear diameter of Heukjinjuchal was 16.0 cm and 4.4 cm, respectively. The ratio of kernel set length/ear length was 89%, similar with that of a check hybrid, Chalok1. It is resistant to Northern corn leaf blight disease and also lodging tolerant. Fresh ear yield of Heukjinjuchal comparable with those of a check hybrid, Chalok1 in regional yield trials for three years. Seed production of this hybrid is relatively easy because of well overlapping period of silking and pollen dispersal between the two parents. This cultivar would be well adaptable to the whole country.

  • Extracting ground points is the kernel of DTM generation being considered as one of the most popular LIDAR applications. The previous extraction approaches can be mostly characterized as a point based approach, which sequentially examines every individual point to determine whether it is measured from ground surfaces. The number of examinations to be performed is then equivalent to the number of points. Particularly in a large set, the heavy computational requirement associated with the examinations is obviously an obstacle to employing more sophisticated criteria for the examination. To reduce the number of entities to be examined and produce more robust results, we developed an approach based on features rather than points, where a feature indicates an entity constructed by grouping some points. In the proposed approach, we first generate a set of features by organizing points into surface patches and grouping the patches into surface clusters. Among these features, we then attempt to identify the ground features with the criteria based on the attributes of the features. The points grouped into these identified features are labeled ground points, being used for DTM generation afterward. The Proposed approach was applied to many real airborne LIDAR data sets. The analysis on the results strongly supports the prominent performance of the proposed approach in terms of not only the computational requirement but also the quality of the DTM.

  • These studies were conducted to find out the polishing methods that improve yield and quality of the polished barley. Four varieties of hulled barley, Dongbori 1. Bunong, Kangbori and Suwon 182 which were produced in Suwon, Korea in 1979, were subjected to this experiment. The polishing machine, manufactured by Satake Co, was used as test mill. Increasing the roller speed of polishing machine causes more polished barley in a unit period. The speed influenced more in length than thickness or width of grain. Therefore the shape of grain became bold type as the speed increased. The optimum roller speed was 1,300rpm in ideal shape of polished barley. The lowest hardness was observed in the husk layer and the hardness was found in the decreasing order of the aleurone, testa, peri carp and the endosperm layer. The thickness of bran layer, weight of 1,000 kernel and hardness of polished barley were greatly different according to barley varieties. Also the length, thickness, width and the ratio of length to width of barley grain were significantly different in barley varieties. The ratio of length to width of the polished barley was 1.59 in Suwon 182, 1.53 in Bunong, 1.51 in Kangbori and 1.26 in Dongbori 1.

  • A new rice variety 'Haeoreumi' is a japonica rice (Oryza sativa L.) with lodging tolerance, resistance to rice stripe virus (RSV) and bacterial leaf blight (BLB), and high grain quality. It was developed by the rice breeding team of Yeongdeog Substation, National Institute of Crop Science (NICS), RDA in 2008. This variety was derived from a cross between 'Milyang165' with good grain quality and lodging resistance, and 'Haepyeongbyeo' with wind tolerance in winter season of 2000/2001. A promising line, YR22375-B-B-1, selected by pedigree breeding method, was designated as the name of 'Yeongdeog46' in 2005. 'Yeongdeog46' was released as the name of 'Haeoreumi' in 2008 after the local adaptability test that was carried out at nine locations from 2006 to 2008. 'Haeoreumi' has 74 cm short culm length as and medium maturating growth duration. This variety showed resistance to $K_1,\;K_2$, and $K_3$ races of bacterial blight, and stripe virus and moderate resistant to leaf blast disease with durable resistance, and also has tolerance to unfavorable environment such as cold, dry and cold salty wind. 'Haeoreumi' has translucent and clear milled rice kernel without white core and white belly rice, and good eating quality as a result of panel test. The yield potential of 'Haeoreumi' in milled rice is about 5.58MT/ha at ordinary fertilizer level of local adaptability test. This cultivar would be adaptable to Middle plain, mid-west costal area, and east-south coastal area.

  • In general radiotherapy, mega-voltage (MV) x-ray images are widely used as the unique method to verify radio-therapeutic fields. But, the image quality of MV images is much lower than that of kilo-voltage x-ray images due to scatter interactions. Since 1990s, studies for the scatter correction have performed with digital-based MV imaging systems. In this study, a novel method for the scatter correction is suggested using scatter to primary ratio (SPR), instead of conventional methods such as digital image processing or scatter kernel calculations. We measured two MV images with and without a solid water phantom describing a patient body with given imaging conditions, and calculated un-attenuated ratios. Then, we obtained SPR distributions for the scatter correction. For experimental validation, a line-pair (LP) phantom using several Al bars and a clinical pelvis MV image was used. As the result, scatter signals of the LP phantom image were successfully reduced so that original density distribution of the phantom was restored. Moreover, image contrast values increased after SPR correction at all ROIs of the clinical image. The mean value of increases was 48%. The SPR correction method suggested in this study has high reliability because it is based on actually measured data. Also, this method can be easily adopted in clinics without additional cost. We expected that the SPR correction can be an effective method to improve the quality of MV image guided radiotherapy.

  • Rough rice samples of Chucheongbyeo, Bongkwangbyeo and Hwaseongbyeo were collected by the National Agricultural Products Inspection Office. Drying methods of rough rice were sun drying and forced ventilation drying by an oven dryer and temperature of the oven dryer was set to 43, 60, 70, or 8$0^{\circ}C$. Moisture content of samples was reduced from ca. 20% to 15% at the end of drying, and additionally to 12.5 % for the drying at 8$0^{\circ}C$. Characteristics related to rice grain quality, milling recovery, ratio of broken and cracked rices, percentage of germination, and sensory scores of the cooked rices were evaluated. Yielding percentage of brown rice and polished rice remarkably decreased by drying at 8$0^{\circ}C$. Percentages of cracked rice and broken rice were within the criterion of the second grade government brown rice (20%) only in the sun dried and the rices dried at 43$^{\circ}C$, on the basis of damaged rice, opaque kernel rice and colored rice. Broken rice percentage of the polished rice was within the criterion for the standard of government rice (5%) in the sun dried and the rices dried at 43$^{\circ}C$. Germination percentage of rough rice was higher than 80% in sun drying and drying at 43$^{\circ}C$, but remarkably decreased by drying rice at 6$0^{\circ}C$ and over. Sensory palatability of the cooked rice decreased with increase in drying temperature. The present governmental method of judging rough rice on the basis of moisture content and appearance of the rough rice appears to be improved to include the ratio of broken and cracked rices.
