Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of different cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) acquisition protocols on reducing the effective radiation dose while maintaining image quality. Materials and Methods: The effective dose emitted by a CBCT device was calculated using thermoluminescent dosimeters placed in a Rando Alderson phantom. Image quality was assessed by 3 experienced evaluators. The relationship between image quality and confidence was evaluated using the Fisher exact test, and the agreement among raters was assessed using the kappa test. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed to investigate whether the technical parameters could predict the effective dose. P-values<0.05 were considered to indicate statistical significance. Results: The optimized protocol (3 mA, 99 kVp, and 450 projection images) demonstrated good image quality and a lower effective dose for radiation-sensitive organs. Image quality and confidence had consistent values for all structures (P<0.05). Multiple linear regression analysis resulted in a statistically significant model. The milliamperage (b=0.504; t=3.406; P=0.027), kilovoltage peak (b=0.589; t=3.979; P=0.016) and number of projection images (b=0.557; t=3.762; P=0.020) were predictors of the effective dose. Conclusion: Optimized CBCT acquisition protocols can significantly reduce the effective radiation dose while maintaining acceptable image quality by adjusting the milliamperage and projection images.
The purpose of this study was to compare the risk-adjusted in-hospital mortality for craniotomies between logistic regression and multilevel analysis. By using patient sample data from the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service, in-patients with a craniotomy were selected as the survey target. The sample data were collected from a total number of 2,335 patients from 90 hospitals. The sample data were analyzed with SAS 9.3. From the results of the existing logistic regression analysis and multilevel analysis, the values from the multilevel analysis represented a better model than that of logistic regression. The intra-class correlation (ICC) was 18.0%. It was found that risk-adjusted in-hospital mortality for craniotomies may vary in every hospital. The agreement by kappa coefficient between the two methods was good for the risk-adjusted in-hospital mortality for craniotomies, but the factors influencing the outcome for that were different.
Water body extraction is significant for flood disaster monitoring using satellite imagery. Conventional methods have focused on finding an index, which highlights water body and suppresses non-water body such as vegetation or soil area. The Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) is typically used to extract water body from satellite images. The drawback of NDWI, however, is that some man-made objects in built-up areas have NDWI values similar to water body. The objective of this paper is to propose a new method that could extract correctly water body with built-up areas in before and after images of flood. We first create a two-element feature vector consisting of NDWI and a Near InfRared band (NIR) and then select a training site on water body area. After computing the mean vector and the covariance matrix of the training site, we classify each pixel into water body based on Mahalanobis distance. We also register before and after images of flood using outlier removal and triangulation-based local transformation. We finally create a change map by combining the before-flooding water body and after-flooding water body. The experimental results show that the overall accuracy and Kappa coefficient of the proposed method were 97.25% and 94.14%, respectively, while those of the NDWI method were 89.5% and 69.6%, respectively.

The virus neutralization (VN) test was used to determine potency of the infectious bronchitis (IB) vaccine. The results of VN, hemagglutination inhibition (HI), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) were compared with those of the IBV M41. The $r^2$ values between VN and HI titers and the ELISA antibody titer were 0.8782 and 0.0336, respectively, indicating a high correlation between VN and HI, but not VN and ELISA. The Cohen's kappa coefficient between the VN titer of 2 $log_{10}$ and HI titer of 5 $log_2$ was 0.909. Our results showed that VN could be replaced with HI for testing the potency of IBV M41.
The Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have several advantages over conventional RS techniques. They can acquire high-resolution images quickly and repeatedly. And with a comparatively lower flight altitude i.e. 80~400 m, they can obtain good quality images even in cloudy weather. Therefore, they are ideal for acquiring spatial data in cases of small agricultural field with mixed crop, abundant in South Korea. This paper discuss the use of low cost UAV based remote sensing for classifying crops. The study area, Gochang is produced by several crops such as red pepper, radish, Chinese cabbage, rubus coreanus, welsh onion, bean in South Korea. This study acquired images using fixed wing UAV on September 23, 2014. An object-based technique is used for classification of crops. The results showed that scale 250, shape 0.1, color 0.9, compactness 0.5 and smoothness 0.5 were the optimum parameter values in image segmentation. As a result, the kappa coefficient was 0.82 and the overall accuracy of classification was 85.0 %. The result of the present study validate our attempts for crop classification using high resolution UAV image as well as established the possibility of using such remote sensing techniques widely to resolve the difficulty of remote sensing data acquisition in agricultural sector.
This study was performed to prove if the high resolution satellite imagery of IKONOS is suitable for preparing digital vegetation map which is becoming increasingly important in ecological science. Seven classes for forest area and five classes for non-forest area were taken for classification. Three methods, such as the pixel based classification, the segment based classification with majority principle, and the segment based classification with maximum likelihood, were applied to classify IKONOS imagery taken in April 2000. As a whole, the segment based classification shows better performance in classifying the high resolution satellite imagery of IKONOS. Through the comparison of accuracies and kappa values of the above 3 classification methods, the segment based classification with maximum likelihood was proved to be the best suitable for preparing the vegetation map with the help of IKONOS imagery. This is true not only from the viewpoint of accuracy, but also for the purpose of preparing a polygon based vegetation map. On the basis of the segment based classification with the maximum likelihood, a digital vegetation map in which each vegetation class is delimitated in the form of a polygon could be prepared.

In this report, we investigated the antioxidant (peroxyl radical-scavenging and reducing capacities) and anti-osteoporotic activities of extracts and isolated constituents (1 - 16) from the rhizomes of Kaempferia parviflora Wall. ex Baker on pre-osteoclastic RAW 264.7 cells. Compound 5 exhibited significant peroxyl radical-scavenging capacity, with TE value of $8.47{\pm}0.52{\mu}M$, while compound 13 showed significant reducing capacity, with CUPRAC value of $5.66{\pm}0.26{\mu}M$, at $10.0{\mu}M$. In addition, flavonoid compounds 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and terpene compound 15 showed significant inhibition of tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) in NF-${\kappa}B$ ligand-induced osteoclastic RAW 264.7 cells, with values ranging from $16.97{\pm}1.02$ to $64.67{\pm}2.76%$. These results indicated that K. parviflora could be excellent sources for the antioxidant and anti-osteoporotic traditional medicinal plants.
This study was performed to determine physicochemical and sensory quality of low-fat pork loaf containing silkworm powder and vegetable worm (Paecilomyces japonica). Total 2% of fat replacer (soy protein isolate:maltodextrin:$\kappa$-carrageenan:water=1:0.5:0.5:10, w/v) was added. The loaf was separated into CTL (control), T1 (0.2% silkworm powder), T2 (0.2% vegetable worm), T3 (0.4% silkworm powder), T4 (0.4% vegetable worm), T5 (0.1% silkworm powder+0.1% vegetable worm), and T6 (0.2% silkworm powder+0.2% vegetable worm). Pork loaf of T3 showed the highest pH value and cooking loss of pork loaves containing silkworm and vegetable worm was higher than control at day 5. 2-Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances of T2 and T5 showed significantly lower values than control and those additives may reduce lipid oxidation of meat. Overall acceptability was not adversely influenced by silkworm powder and vegetable worm at day 0 and 5. These results indicated that those silkworm powder and vegetable worm could be utilized for pork product industry.

Digital Image Correlation technique (DIC) is a non-contact optical method for rapid structural health monitoring of critical infrastructure. An innovative approach to DIC is presented using QR (Quick Response) code based random speckle pattern. Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) beams of size $1800mm{\times}150mm{\times}200mm$ are tested in flexure. DIC is used to extract Moment (M) - Curvature (${\kappa}$) relationships using random speckle patterns and QR code based random speckle patterns. The QR code based random speckle pattern is evaluated for 2D DIC measurements and the QR code speckle pattern performs satisfactorily in comparison with random speckle pattern when considered in the context of serving a dual purpose. Characteristics of QR code based random speckle pattern are quantified and its applicability to DIC is explored. The ultimate moment-curvature values computed from the QR code based random speckled pattern are found to be in good agreement with conventional measurements. QR code encrypts the structural information which enables integration with building information modelling (BIM).
Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the relationship between sleep bruxism(SB) and pulpal calcifications in young women. Materials and Methods: A total of 100 female participants between 20 and 31 years of age who were referred to our radiology clinic for a dental check-up, including 59 SB and 41 non-SB patients, were sampled for the analysis. SB was diagnosed based on the American Academy of Sleep Medicine criteria. All teeth were evaluated on digital panoramic radiographs to detect pulpal calcifications, except third molars, teeth with root canal treatment, and teeth with root resorption. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to determine the risk factors for pulpal calcifications. The Spearman correlation coefficient was applied and the Pearson chi-square test was used for categorical variables. To test intra-examiner reproducibility, Cohen kappa analysis was applied. P values <.05 were considered to indicate statistical significance. Results: A total of 2800 teeth were evaluated (1652 teeth from SB patients and 1148 from non-SB patients), and 61% of patients had at least 1 dental pulpal calcification. No statistically significant relationship was found between SB and pulpal calcifications (P>0.05). In SB patients, the total number of pulpal calcifications was 129, while in non-SB patients, it was 84. Binary logistic analysis showed that SB was not a risk factor for the presence of pulpal calcifications(odds ratio, 1.19; 95% CI, 0.52-2.69, P>.05). Conclusion: No relationship was found between SB and pulpal calcifications.
