  • This paper provides the results from evaluating the stiffness of Hi-Form joint by an experiment and the system identification method using the dynamic modal data, and the reasonable modeling method of Hi-Form joint which is proposed for improved stair construction recently. Based on the crack pattern and load-displacement relationship and the damage distribution, it can be judged that Hi-Form joint can't fully transfer the forces between the elements linked, and we propose that the joint is modeled as a element which have a stiffness with 50% decrease.

  • To investigate the partial discharge and electric field distribution in cable joint parts, we measured the partial discharge and electric field in specimen. The specimens which cross-linked polyethylene(XLPE) and ethylene propylene diene ethylene(EPDM) are used to insulating material for underground cable md cable jointing parts. The polymers are used to insulating material in switchgear which is a kind of transformer equipment and in ultra-high voltage cable. Its using is increasing gradually, the electrical insulation properties are not only excellent but also mechanical property is excellent. And because it is possible to be made void of several type in insulator while it is produced, which the electrical field distribution is changed by void, it has a critical influence to insulator performance. The underground cable is connecting by the jointing material, insulating breakdown and the electric ageing which are caused by several mixing impurity and the damage of cable insulator layer, which reduced the life of cable while intermediate joint kit is connected. Therefore, the computer simulation is used to estimating insulator performance, XLPE is used to the insulating material of ultra-high voltage cable and EPDM is used to insulator layer in joint material kit, and which are produced as specimen. And it is analyzed the electric field concentrating distribution and partial discharge by modeling of computer simulation in void and cable joint kit.

  • The probabilistic characterization of wind field characteristics is a significant task for fatigue reliability assessment of long-span railway bridges in wind-prone regions. In consideration of the effect of wind direction, the stochastic properties of wind field should be represented by a bivariate statistical model of wind speed and direction. This paper presents the construction of the bivariate model of wind speed and direction at the site of a railway arch bridge by use of the long-term structural health monitoring (SHM) data. The wind characteristics are derived by analyzing the real-time wind monitoring data, such as the mean wind speed and direction, turbulence intensity, turbulence integral scale, and power spectral density. A sequential quadratic programming (SQP) algorithm-based finite mixture modeling method is proposed to formulate the joint distribution model of wind speed and direction. For the probability density function (PDF) of wind speed, a double-parameter Weibull distribution function is utilized, and a von Mises distribution function is applied to represent the PDF of wind direction. The SQP algorithm with multi-start points is used to estimate the parameters in the bivariate model, namely Weibull-von Mises mixture model. One-year wind monitoring data are selected to validate the effectiveness of the proposed modeling method. The optimal model is jointly evaluated by the Bayesian information criterion (BIC) and coefficient of determination, $R^2$. The obtained results indicate that the proposed SQP algorithm-based finite mixture modeling method can effectively establish the bivariate model of wind speed and direction. The established bivariate model of wind speed and direction will facilitate the wind-induced fatigue reliability assessment of long-span bridges.

  • This paper presents the kinematic and dynamic analysis of parallel manipulators with redundant joints, obtained by putting additional active joints to an existing parallel manipulator. We develop the kinematic and dynamic models of a parallel manipulator with redundant joints. The redundancy in serial chain, due to the increased number of joints per limb, is considered in the modeling. Based oh the derived models, we define the kinematic and dynamic manipulabilities of a parallel manipulator with redundant joints. The effect of the redundant joints on the performance of parallel manipulators is analyzed in terms of kinematic and dynamic manipulabilities.

  • It has to secure the reliability for the propagation performance in the physical layer of the products for comprising system in order to satisfy the service quality. The radiowave environment under the actual service circumstance is measured. By using the channel model which models and which it obtains, the performance about the access device tries to be tested under the laboratory environment and there is the object of channel modeling.

  • This paper proposes a new topology optimization scheme to determine optimized joints for multi-component models. The joints are modeled as zero-length high-stiffness spring elements. The spring joints are considered as mesh-independent springs based on a joint-element interpolation scheme. This enables the changing of the location of the joints regardless of the connected nodes during optimization. Because the joints are movable, the locations of the optimized joints should be aggregated at several points. In this paper, the novel joint dispersal (JD) constraint to prevent joint clustering is proposed. With the joint dispersal constraint, it is possible to determine the optimized joint location as well as optimized topologies while maintaining the minimum distance between each joint. The mechanical compliance value is considered as the objective function. Several topology optimization examples are solved to demonstrate the effect of the joint dispersal constraint.

  • In this paper, nonlinear finite element analysis is performed to ensure structural safety and to suggest the design improvement of wing-to-fuselage joint of the KSR-III rocket. In the joint, wings are attached to fuselage by fitting wing attachment part into the groove on the fuselage frame, and load transfer between wing and fuselage frame is accomplished mainly throug the contact of two members as well as fastening bolts. The careful finite element modeling has been proposed for the purpose of analyzing problems with relatively complicated load path. The detailed bolt modeling is conducted and GAP elemets are used to simulate contact problem between joined members and bolts. The suggested design improvement is verified by structural testing and the analysis results are compared with test results.

  • In this study, the femur, the tibia, the articular cartilage and the menisci are three dimensionally reconstructed using MR images of healthy knee joint in full extension of 26-year-old male. Three dimensional finite element model of the knee joint is fabricated on the reconstructed model. Also, the FE models of ligaments and tendons are attached on the biologically suitable position of the FE model. Bones, articular cartilages and menisci are considered as homogeneous, isotropic and linear elastic materials, and ligaments and tendons are modeled as truss element and nonlinear elastic springs. The numerical results show the contact pressure and the von Mises stress distribution in the soft tissues such as articular cartilages and menisci which can be regarded as important parameters to estimate the failure of the tissues and the pain of the patients.

  • In engineering problems, many random variables have correlation, and the correlation of input random variables has a great influence on reliability analysis results of the mechanical systems. However, correlated variables are often treated as independent variables or modeled by specific parametric joint distributions due to difficulty in modeling joint distributions. Especially, when there are insufficient correlated data, it becomes more difficult to correctly model the joint distribution. In this study, multivariate kernel density estimation with bounded data is proposed to estimate various types of joint distributions with highly nonlinearity. Since it combines given data with bounded data, which are generated from confidence intervals of uniform distribution parameters for given data, it is less sensitive to data quality and number of data. Thus, it yields conservative statistical modeling and reliability analysis results, and its performance is verified through statistical simulation and engineering examples.

  • This paper presents spatial relationshaps and engineering features for the feature based modeling of Sheet Metal Weld Assemblies (SMWA) that are made of sheet metal components through are welding processes. Spatial relationships in ProMod-S, a sheet metal product modeler, are further extended for the SMWA modeling. Some spatial relationships for special weld joint types are newly introduced. The geometrical and topological relations between spatial reationship, mating features, and assembly features are defined. Finally, assembly data stucturess for the product modeling of SMWA are proposed. They are an engineering relation to represent the constraints between component features, and a mating bond to integrate component design information.
