The purpose of this study was to analyze the level of the cognitive function and activities of daily living of the beneficiary older adults at home based on Korean Long-term Care Insurance System. A cross-sectional descriptive survey was conducted from November 2010 to May 2011, the final respondents were 1,026 beneficiary older adults taking home visit care covered in Korean long-term care insurance system. The questionnaire included general characteristics of subjects, cognitive function, ADL(Activity of daily living). The data was analyzed using the SPSS 20.0 version. There was significant difference in cognitive function and ADL between 1st Grade, 2nd Grade and 3rd Grade of long-term care classification. The correlated factors of cognitive function were ADL, long-term care grade, disability of arm and leg, limitation of joint, bed sore and tube feeding. The correlated factors of ADL were cognitive function, long-term care grade, disability of arm and leg, bed sore and tube feeding. This study suggests that cognitive functions have to be mainly considered in long-term care grade. It is necessary to make an effort to develop long-term care grade in Korean long-term care insurance system an cognitive function improvement program for the beneficiary older adults. Above all things government will be seriously contemplating of revise contents for long-term care grade to provide quality of care for the older adults.
The ultrasonic guided wave-based technique has become one of the most promising methods in non-destructive evaluation and structural health monitoring, because of its advantages of large area inspection, evaluating inaccessible areas on the structure and high sensitivity to small damage. To further advance the development of damage detection technologies using ultrasonic guided waves for the inspection of welded components in structures, the transmission characteristics of the ultrasonic guided waves propagating through welded joints with various types of defects or damage in steel plates are studied and presented in this paper. A three-dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) model considering the different material properties of the mild steel, high strength steel and austenitic stainless steel plates and their corresponding welded joints as well as the interaction condition of the steel plate and welded joint, is developed. The FE model is validated against analytical solutions and experimental results reported in the literature and is demonstrated to be capable of providing a reliable prediction on the features of ultrasonic guided wave propagating through steel plates with welded joints and interacting with defects. Mode conversion and scattering analysis of guided waves transmitted through the different types of weld defects in steel plates are performed by using the validated FE model. Parametric studies are undertaken to elucidate the effects of several basic parameters for various types of weld defects on the transmission performance of guided waves. The findings of this research can provide a better understanding of the transmission behaviour of ultrasonic guided waves propagating through welded joints with defects. The method could be used for improving the performance of guided wave damage detection methods.
Background: Despite the declining trend of workplace accidents in Republic of Korea, its level is still quite high compared with that in other developed countries. Factors that are responsible for high workplace accidents have not been well documented in Republic of Korea. The main purpose of this paper is to estimate the effects of unions and health and safety committees on workplace accidents in Korean manufacturing firms. We also allow for the interactions between unions and health and safety committees in the analysis. The results obtained in this paper will not only contribute to the literature in this field, but might also be useful for employers and worker representatives who are trying to find an effective way to reduce workplace accidents. Methods: This paper utilizes the 2012 Occupational Safety and Health Trend Survey data, which is a unique data set providing information on workplace injuries and illness as well as other characteristics of participatory firms, representative of the manufacturing industry in Republic of Korea. Results: In estimating the effects of unions and health and safety committees, we build a negative binomial regression model in which the interactions between unions and health and safety committees are permissible in reducing workplace accidents. Conclusion: Health and safety committees were found to reduce the incidence of accidents whereas unionized establishments have higher incidence of accidents than nonunionized establishments. We also found that health and safety committees can more effectively reduce accidents in nonunionized establishments. By contrast, nonexclusive joint committees can more effectively reduce accidents in unionized establishments.

Recently, the repair and recycling of damaged mechanical parts via metal additive manufacturing processes have been industrial points of interest. This is because the repair and recycling of damaged mechanical parts can reduce energy and resource consumption. The directed energy deposition(DED) process has various advantages such as the possibility of selective deposition, large building space, and a small heat-affected zone. Hence, it is a suitable process for repairing damaged mechanical parts. The shaft is a core component of various mechanical systems. Although there is a high demand for the repair of the shaft, it is difficult to repair with traditional welding processes because of the thermal deformation problem. The objective of this study is to propose a repair procedure for a damaged shaft using the DED process and discuss its applications. Three types of cases, including a small shaft with a damaged surface, a medium-size shaft with a worn bearing joint, and a large shaft with serious damage, were repaired using the proposed procedure. The microstructure and hardness were examined to discuss the characteristics of the repaired component. The efficiency of the repair of the damaged shaft is also discussed.
The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for confirming the convergence relationship between flexibility exercise on quality of life, oral condition, and oral health-related behavior. Data from the 2012 KNHNES were used, and complex sample linear regression analysis and logistic regression analysis were performed to confirm the effects of flexibility exercise on quality of life and oral health. As a result, those who controlled for demographic characteristics and did not exercise flexibility had .027 times worse exercise ability among the subcategories of quality of life, and .152 times higher number of carious permanent teeth. Among the symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorder, pain symptoms were 1.633 times higher in those who exercised flexibility (p<.05). Therefore, it is considered that flexibility exercise has value in that it has suggested a relationship not only with general health but also with oral health.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate which information of cancer patients should be collected for the Korean medicine cancer registry in order to assess the efficacy and safety of Korean medicine (KM) treatment and to identify Korean medical prognostic predictors. Methods: A total of fifteen Korean medical specialists completed an online survey questionnaire including items about general characteristics of cancer patients and clinical practice patterns. Results: The four main types of cancer at Korean medical hospitals were breast, lung, stomach, and colorectal cancer. The majority of patients with cancer at Korean medical hospitals were in the advanced or metastatic stage (50.0%). The prominent purposes of KM treatment were to alleviate cancer-related symptoms, reduce the side effects of conventional therapy, and improve quality of life. The major options for treatment were traditional herbal medicine (THM), acupuncture, moxibustion, thermotherapy, pharmacoacupuncture, and meditation, with THM being the most frequently used (35.7%). Almost all Korean medical specialists (93.9%) used syndrome differentiation in clinical practice and identified over half the cancer patients as deficiency syndrome (57.2%). Conclusion: Physicians considered the primary goal of KM treatment for cancer patients to be symptom management since advanced or metastatic stage patients were the majority at Korean medical hospitals. THM were the most common treatment option and syndrome differentiation was used by almost all physicians. Further research is needed to monitor and ensure optimal KM treatment for patients with cancer.
Motion Estimation(ME) has been developed to reduce the redundant data in digital video signal. ME is an important part of video encoding system, However, it requires huge computational complexity of the encoder part, and fast motion search methods have been proposed to reduce huge complexity. Multi- view video is obtained by capturing on a three-dimensional scene with many cameras at different positions and its complexity increases in proportion to the number of cameras. In this paper, we proposed an efficient motion method which chooses a search pattern adaptively by using the temporal-spatial correlation of the block and the characteristics of the block. Experiment results show that the computational complexity reduction of the proposed method over TZ search method and FS method can be up to 70~75% and 99% respectively while keeping similar image quality and bit rates.

The purpose of this study was to identify the current status of the new graduate nurses' education system, to establish guidelines for the education of new graduate nurses, and to provide dates for the improvement of the education system. Eighty-nine hospitals participated in the survey from July to August 2018. The questionnaires consisted of 24 items including general characteristics, new graduate nurses' education system, operation of nursing education teams, and preceptorship programs. The average duration of education/training for new graduate nurses was 57.3 days, and 26.6%-58.5% of general hospitals, hospitals, and long-term care hospitals had less than 30 days of new graduate nurses education/training, which is shorter than the education/training period of tertiary hospitals. There were new nursing education guidelines in 88.8% of all medical institutions and 58.6% of them had nursing education teams. Most of the personnel in charge of nursing education were not dedicated to education. A total of 87.6% of the all participating medical institutions had preceptorship programs, while 23.1%-33.3% of hospitals and long-term care hospitals did not. The breakdown of preceptorship programs showed 68.4% as "preceptor and preceptee are in charge of one team, and preceptor is teaching preceptee," and 19.7% were "preceptor and preceptee are in charge of each team, and preceptor is teaching preceptee at the same time." These results show that standardization and management of new graduate nurses' education programs is necessary. For the standardization and management of new graduate nurses' education programs, joint efforts of nurses' associations and support from the government should be encouraged.
The objective of this study is to analyze the mechanical splicing characteristic of the threaded bar according to the contact conditions of the transverse rib. In order to consider the contact conditions of the rib, selection of the main variables including the gap of the core diameter ($l_c$), rib angle (${\theta}$), and the number of contacts ($C_N$) of transverse rib was done. So as to analyze the splicing characteristic of the D51 threaded bar, a finite element (FE) simulation of the tensile test was conducted using the designed D51 threaded bar and coupler. Through FE simulation results, it was verified that the mechanical slicing characteristics varied based on the main design variables ($l_c$, ${\theta}$, and $C_N$). It was further confirmed that it was important to determine the $C_N$ in consideration of $l_c$. Additionally, the tensile test results of the D25 and D51 threaded bar combined with the couplers were similar to FE simulation results. Furthermore, to quantitatively evaluate FE simulation and test results, the calculation equation for the contacted projection area ratio (R) of the transverse rib was proposed. To secure a mechanical splicing joint of the threaded bar, it was established that the R calculated using the proposed equation had to be greater or equal to 40%.

Purpose: The introduction of community-based medical education would help improve the quality of primary care. This paper suggests learning objectives and an educational program for community-based medical education. Methods: The educational program was developed in a 1-day consensus workshop. Twenty experts, including faculty members from family medicine department of a college of medicine in Seoul and community-based preceptors, participated in the program. A needs-assessment survey was conducted among community-based preceptors before the workshop. Through this workshop, we derived learning objectives and a standardized curriculum for community-based medical education. Results: In the questionnaire before the workshop, community-based preceptors voiced concerns over the program's potential costs and the time required for teaching. The learning objectives and educational programs derived from the workshop's consensus were consistent with the characteristics of the primary care. Based on the results of this workshop, the joint expert team developed a standard educational program on two core topics: clinical teaching and mentoring. Conclusion: From this curriculum development process, participants could construct a more standardized curriculum for community-based medical education. Future studies are needed to evaluate the long-term outcomes of these educational programs, such as the learners' satisfaction and achievement.
