  • Purpose: This study examines the role of leaders of sport organizations from the perspectives of rank-and-file volunteers. Specifically, the study explores which factors are important in leading volunteers and how rank-and-filers interact with their leaders. Research design, data, and methodology: This study reviews a comprehensive literature on volunteer and leadership theories which are trait theory, behavior theory, and contingency theory. Given the comprehension of prior structure of knowledge on leadership, the study provides a structure of knowledge on volunteer and leadership in sport context and discusses managerial implications for leaders in sport organization. Results: With an exploration of sport leadership, this study proposes a volunteer classification model which presents four-volunteer types: professional volunteer, company volunteer, general volunteer, and school volunteer. Furthermore, this study discussed managerial implications for sport organization leaders. Conclusions: Paid employees may be prepared to accept a job and its requirements mainly due to economic benefits. Volunteers, however, do not pursue economic benefits through their activity. Different types of motivation between paid employees and volunteers bring to surface how a leader influences volunteer effectively. A conceptual volunteer clarification model could be examined in real world situations. Insights for future studies were discussed.

  • As the sharing economic market grows, the subject of sharing is expanding to intangible resources such as time, experience, and expertise. The phenomenon that an individual temporarily participates in the platform by utilizing own intangible resources is defined as a 'gig economy'. The gig economy has a positive expectation that can create new jobs, but also has negative warnings that it is only a temporary job based on low wages. The gig economy market is growing rapidly in Korea, however there are very few academic discussions. This study examines the experiences of resource providers in the Korean gig economic platform, and then explores future job changes based on the perception of resource providers. This study selected the subject of research as a talent sharing platform and conducted in-depth interviews with 16 resource providers. The results of the research were presented through content analysis, and their experiences and perceptions were classified into six themes. This study implies academic and practical significance in exploring in depth the overall experience of resource suppliers and in suggesting proposals for desirable successful market growth.

  • This study recruited adults aged 35 to 64 living in Daegu and Gyeongsang buk-do to analyze the images of the elderly perceived by the mid and older- aged adults and their preparation for later life. The results of this study are as follows: First, as for the images of elderly people recognized by the research subjects, psychological images were the most positive, followed by physical and social images. Those with a higher education level, full-time job, and parents alive had more positive images of the elderly. The psychological images were better in those married compared to singles or divorcees, and the higher the age considered as elderly, the better the psychological and social images of the elderly. Second, preparation for later life in the mid and older-aged adults was better in order of emotional and physical preparation, whereas economic and leisure and social preparation were not enough. Those who are female, those with a higher education level, higher average monthly household income, professional job, and full-time job, and those who have an older age in mind as a definition of elderly have been better prepared for later life. Third, it was found that the sub-factors of their images of elderly people and preparation for later life affected each other, and the more positive their images of elderly people, the better they had been prepared for later in life. The results of this research suggests a desirable direction for improving the images of the elderly, implicating the necessity of exploring measures to provide individual and social support and developing educational programs for successful life after retirement.

  • Human networks can be an important means of solving various information problems including tacit knowledge, as an essential channel of knowledge sharing. Particularly, in the case of a teacher librarian(or librarian) of a school library composed of one person in the organization, the human networks for work can be more effective with people outside the organization who are in charge of the same duties than with members inside the organization. Thus, this study aims at exploring the characteristics of the personal networks related to the work of teacher librarians and understanding the effect of these network characteristics on job satisfaction and role ambiguity resolution. A survey was conducted on one of the teacher librarian associations in Seoul, and the collected data were analyzed using social network analysis(SNA) method. As a result, it was found that personal networking of teacher librarians is active in experienced teacher librarians, while those with shorter career have fewer channels of help-seeking. Also, the characteristics of personal networking do not affect job satisfaction and the resolution of role ambiguity. Based on these results, this study proposes the expansion of collaborating and networking among teacher librarians to solve information problems in a single-person workplace.

The purpose of this study was to examine the possibility of introducing a librarian learning community as an training program at a professional education and training institution and to suggest an appropriate operation method. To this end, research was conducted using the following contents and methods: 1) theoretical discussion on program operation such as the concept, operation stages, and types of a librarian learning community through a review of related literature; 2) exploring the possibility of operating a librarian learning community through pilot operation and derivation of implications, 3) proposal of a librarian learning community operation model. This study reviewed the librarian learning community operating model through participant observation and participant opinion collection during the pilot operation process to minimize confusion in the early stages of implementation, and also presented an operational roadmap and support system for the successful establishment of the program in the future. There is a need to further develop the librarian learning community operating model presented in this study through implementation and empirical analysis over the next several years. However, the results of this study will also be useful as an initial operating model for a learning community for professional education and training in other fields.

  • There has been a dramatic increase in the proportion of temporary employees in LIS fields, due to current trends of restructuring, automation, complete personnel systems, and complete wage systems. This research, therefore, conducted a survey exploring the current status and working environment of the temporary posts in LIS fields, in order to understand and direct the employment prospects of potential librarians. Results show that the average working period of more than half of temporary librarians are between 1-3 years. The total working period as a temporary librarian, including former experiences in their career, were evenly distributed between 1-5 years. Among those, being temporary often persisted, as 32% of temporary librarians stayed in their temporary status for more than 5 years. Second, temporary librarians perceived themselves as working the same hours as regular librarians, having independent or assistant tasks to regular librarians, and having a neutral or larger amount of tasks than regular librarians. Third, temporary librarians are employed and contracted from the work place, generally having contracts of less than 2 years or an open contract, which shows a serious level of job instability. Therefore, we should consider the following: proper remuneration for work of equal value, professional contractors, the supplementation of the total wage system and the number of public employees in the system as well as changing temporary positions to permanent positions and so on.

The research procedure was as follows; 1) inform study objectives and interview questions to participants, 2) in-depth interview with semi-structured questions, and 3) post-confirmation and verification. The interview was recorded and transcripted. In-depth interview was composed of 6 subsections: 1) Introducing participants and share purpose of interview, 2) Confirmation of the job status and difficulty of public health centre, 3) Reflecting and sharing experiences of public health clinic job performance cases, 4) Current status and improvement needs of TKM-HPP, 5) Discussions on improvement of TKM-HPP in public health center, 6) Sharing and reconfirmation of interview results. Thematic analysis was conducted from the narratives. Results : The study showed that; 1) the support from the local government was critical for the successful TKM-HPP and participation of the PH-TKMs; 2) the major problems experienced by PH-TKMs were lack of training for TKM-HPP in the field and lack of knowledge at local government level; 3) the suggestions to provide PH-TKMs with manual to educate residents effectively and redefine roles of PH-TKMs in the project. It also suggests that TKM-HPP model should be developed by the district in a way of reflecting regional characteristics. Conclusions : Firstly, more efforts should be made on the projects rather than medical treatment in public health centers, except for areas where medical institutions are scarce. Secondly, in order to facilitate participation of PH-TKM doctors, each local office should reduce medical care and increase efforts related with projects. Thirdly, the institution has to develop feasible TKM-HPP plans that can be carried out by PH-TKMs by the manual. Lastly, pre-training should be provided to PH-TKMs to understand contents of TKM-HPP related to public health centre work before the placement.

  • This study investigated pre-service science teachers' motivation for career choice and their self-image as a science teacher. Although their motivations for becoming science teachers were very personal, three major characteristics emerged. First, during the process of their growth, their interest in education and science existed separately, and later the two interest were naturally focused on the job of a science teacher. When they find out that teaching science is right for them, they developed their inner motivation. Second, teaching opportunities to teach science subjects, including classroom observations, TA, tutor, and teacher-aid, played an essential role for them in finding their aptitude for science teaching. Third, their teaching-related experiences were very effective in building up their self-image as a science teacher and in preparing for the job. It also reinforced their inner motivation, which was important in finding their direction in life as a science teacher. Fourth, there were two categories for the self-image as a science teacher. One was teaching-oriented and the other was science subject-oriented. These images for the science teacher were closely connected with their inner motivation for science teaching.
