Wall flush mounted injector with various orifice shape and injection conditions, were examined to enhance jet penetration and mixing in supersonic cross flow, in view of application to air-breathing accelerator vehicle. Orifice shapes with high aspect ratio were found to preferable for better penetration in the cold flow, and in the reacting flow for scramjet-mode combustion conditions. However, the effectiveness of the high aspect ratio was diminished in the dual-mode combustion conditions. Supersonic injection was applied to the high aspect ratio orifice, and further increase in penetration was observed in the cold and reactive flow for scramjet-mode combustion conditions, however, mixing enhancement due to mixing layer / pseudo-shock wave system interaction was dominant in the dual-mode combustion conditions. Difficulty in attaining ignition in the case with the high aspect ratio orifice was encountered during the combustion tests.

Recently, the thrust vector control using a secondary flow injection which is accomplished by injecting a secondary flow into the supersonic exhaust flow through hole in the wall of the propulsion nozzle has been attention in the applications of the rocket propulsion system. In the present study, 3-dimensional compressible, Navier-Stokes equation to understand the SITVC(Secondary Injection Thrust Vector Control) flow field. The computational results are validated with previous experimental data available. The computational results are visualized detailed structure of shock wave induced by secondary flow and deflected supersonic jets.
A needle-free injector is one of the new non-invasive players in impregnating the biological barriers. It is considered as the next phase in drug delivery and therapeutic applications. One of the major fields of application is in skin remodeling procedures. Although many studies were carried out in understanding the principle in the needle-free injection procedure, fewer studies were done with the aim of therapeutic applications. In the present study, we tried to identify key parameters that affect the jet divergence and peak stagnation pressure on the skin surface in a conventional needle-free injector for skin treatment. A summary of the working principle and effect of the key parameters are presented.

In the present study, the IDI-type constant volume chamber, which utilizes the indirect injection stratified charge method, is used to solve several problems including misfires and cycle-variations caused by unstable initial ignitions. A subchamber has been used to make an ignitable mixture under the low mean equivalence ratio. After burned in the subchamber, the flame jet getting through the passage hode enters the main chamber and burns the lean charge. There are many factors which affect the combustion characteristics of the indirect injection stratified engine. The passage hole angle is the most important since it determines the direction of flame flows into the main chamber. In the present study, we measured the combustion pressure, and the wall temperature, and computed the heat flux through the cylinder wall in order to understand the combustion characteristics depending on passage hole angle and the equivalence ratio.
Breakup characteristics of liquid sheets formed by the impingement of two water jets, such as a breakup length and a breakup wavelength of sheet, were investigated as increasing the injection velocity up to 30m/s and the ambient gas pressure up to 4.0MPa. While round edged orifices formed a laminar sheet which has no waves on the sheet when the injection velocity is low, sharp edged orifices formed a turbulent sheet which has impact waves irrespective of the injection velocity. Thus we compared the differences of breakup characteristics between them. The results showed that the aerodynamic force significantly affects the breakup of laminar sheet when the gas based Weber number is higher than unity, It was also found that the turbulent sheets have three breakup regimes, i.e. expansion regime, wave breakup regime and catastrophic breakup regime according to the gas based Weber number.

Managing pain and anxiety in patients has always been an essential part of dentistry. To prevent pain, dentists administer local anaesthesia (LA) via a needle injection. Unfortunately, anxiety and fear that arise prior to and/or during injection remains a barrier for many children and adults from receiving dental treatment. There is a constant search for techniques to alleviate the invasive and painful nature of the needle injection. In recent years, researchers have developed alternative methods which enable dental anaesthesia to be less invasive and more patient-friendly. The aim of this review is to highlight the procedures and devices available which may replace the conventional needle-administered local anaesthesia. The most known alternative methods in providing anaesthesia in dentistry are: topical anaesthesia, electronic dental anaesthesia, jet-injectors, iontophoresis, and computerized control local anaesthesia delivery systems. Even though these procedures are well accepted by patients to date, it is the authors' opinion that the effectiveness practicality of such techniques in general dentistry is not without limitations.

A computation using the mass-averaged implicit Wavier-Stokes equations has been applied to solve the flow fields of the supersonic jets normally injected into supersonic freestreams and several types of turbulence model has been employed to close the governing equations. The ratio of the freestream to injection flow total pressures has been varied to elucidate the major characteristics of the mixing flow of the two streams. The freestream Mach number has been varied to investigate some change in the injection flow field. The results show that the positions of the separation and reattachment, locating upstream and downstream of the injection hole respectively, are strongly dependent on the ratio of total pressures and the freestream Mach number.

In this research, we focused on the effects of the orifice internal flow such as cavitation and hydraulic flip. The breakup characteristics such as the breakup length and trajectory were measured by changing the orifice diameter (d), the orifice length/orifice diameter (L/d), the injection pressure and the shapes (sharp and round) of orifice entrance to provide a lot of conditions of the orifice internal flow. It is found that cavitation bubbles that occur inside the sharp-edged orifice make the liquid jet ejecting from the orifice turbulent. In the orifices (L/d = 5), the hydraulic flip phenomenon is shown when the injection pressure is high. In case cavitation occurs it breaks up more earlier than that in case of non-cavitation. In case hydraulic flip occurs, since the area of the liquid jet becomes small, the breakup length is also small as that in case of cavitation. But the liquid column trajectories have a similar tendency irrespective of cavitation.
Experimental study on comparison of diffusive-thermal self-excitation with buoyancy-driven one due to accumulation of partially premixed, preheated mixture in front of edge flame was conducted in horizontally and vertically injected laminar free-jet flames with an applied DC electric field of -10 kV. The application of horizontal injection method with the DC electric field to jet flames was experimentally designed to suppress heat-loss-induced self-excitation and thereby to highlight the definite difference between both diffusive-thermal and buoyancy-driven self-excitations with the same order of O(1.0 Hz), in that diffusive-thermal self-excitation has not been so far found experimentally in laminar jet flames. Flame stability maps in vertically and horizontally injected jet flames are presented. The distinct modes of individual self-excitation are shown to be well described by their own phase diagrams. The results show that buoyancy-driven self-excitation due to the accumulation of partially premixed, preheated mixtures in front of edge flame is branched from the buoyancy-induced self-excitation with O(10 Hz) due to a flame flicker. Once the buoyancy-driven self-excitation appears, it suppresses buoyancy-induced as well as diffusive-thermal self-excitation. The key characteristics for individual self-excitation are discussed and their functional dependencies of Strouhal number upon related physical parameters are also presented.
