This study aims to analyze the mixing characteristics of hydrogen considered as a new fuel for internal combustion engines. As the physical property of helium gas is similar to that of hydrogen, helium gas was used in this study. To analyze the steady and unsteady behavior of jet, helium gas was injected into the stationary atmosphere at the normal temperature and pressure. Concentration of helium gas in the center of jet flow is in inverse proportion with axial distance from the nozzle tip. This agrees with the free jet theory of Schlichting. The relative equation for dimensionless concentration to radial/axial distance the axial distance of potential core region, the cone angle a of the jet flow and the relative equation for arriving distance of the front of jet flow to the lapse of time are obtained. But free jet theory of Schlichting in the dimensionless concentration is not in agreement with the present experimental results of the distance of the radial direction. It needs more study. When the arrival frequency of jet flow is used as a parameter, the transition area changing from unsteady flow area into steady flow area becomes gradually wider downstream, but its ratio for the whole unsteady flow area gradually decreases.
The jet pump can be used in a test device of a nuclear reactor for high flow amplification as it reduces inlet flow requirement and thereby size of the process components. In the present work, a miniature jet pump was designed to meet high flow amplification greater than 3. Subsequently, experiments were carried out using a test setup for design validation and performance evaluation of the jet pump for different parameters. It was observed that a minimum pressure of 0.6 bar (g) was required for the secondary fluid inside the jet pump to ensure cavitation free performance at high amplification. Spacing between the nozzle tip and the mixing chamber entry point had significant effect on the performance of the jet pump. Variation in primary flow, temperature and area ratio also affected the performance. It was observed that at high flow amplification, the analytical solution differed significantly from experimental results due to very large velocities encountered in the miniature size jet pump.

In the fully developed internal flow fields, there are complex transition flows caused by interaction of the cross flow and jet when jet is Injected Into the flow. These interactions are studied by means of the flow visualization methods. An instantaneous laser tomographic method is used to reveal the physical mechanism and the structure of vortices formation in the branch pipe flow. The velocity range of cross flow of the pipe is 0.7m/s and the corresponding Reynolds number $R_{cf}$, based on the duct height is $5.6{\times}10^3$, diameter/height ratios(d/H) 0.14 and velocity ratios 3.0. Oil mist with the size of $10{\mu}m$ diameter is used for the scattering particle. The instantaneous topological features of the vortex ring roll-up of the jet shear layer and characteristics of this flow are studied in detail by performing flow visualization in rectangular duct flow. It is found that the formation and roll-up of ring vortices is a periodic phenomenon. The detailed topology of the vortices in the near field of a cross -flow jet and the mechanism associated with them give enforced hints of vortex breakdown within the vortex system due to the interaction of the jet and the cross-flow.
The flow field in road tunnel is influenced by some facts such as piston effect of vehicle's move, operation of ventilation facilities, natural wind and buoyancy effect of fire plume. Among those, jet fan is one of main ventilation facilities especially in longitudinal ventilation system of tunnel. In this study to analyze tunnel flow induced by operation of jet fan, numerical simulation has been carried out. The velocity distributions and streamlines in tunnel are examined to consider the three-dimensional characteristics of tunnel flow caused by jet fan.

In order to reduce the download around the Smart UAV(SUAV) at hovering, flow control using synthetic jet has been performed. Many of the complex tilt rotor flow features are captured including the leading and trailing edge separation, and the large region of separated flow beneath the wing. In order to control the leading edge and trailing edge separation, synthetic jet is located at 0.01c, $0.3c_{flap}$, $0.95c_{flap}$. As non-dimensional frequency, the flow pattern is altered and the rate of drag reduction is changed. The results show that synthetic jets shorten the vortex period and decrease the vortex size by changing local flow structure. By using leading edge jet and trailing edge jet, download is efficiently reduced compared to no control case at hovering mode.
Y-jet nozzle has a wide fuel flow rate range and turn-down ratio, thus, it is used in industrial boilers, furnace and agricultural atomizer. However, it has asymmetrical spray characteristics due to the nozzle design factors. Therefore, in this study, asymmetric spraying characteristics of the elliptical Y-jet nozzle was studied by using the lab-scale spray apparatus. As a result, the elliptical Y-jet nozzle had lower gas mass flow rate than circular Y-jet nozzle at same gas pressure, because of bigger shear stress due to the wider inner surface at the elliptical Y-jet nozzle. Larger SMD was measured on the elliptical Y-jet nozzle than the circular Y-jet nozzle. When SMD was measured in the X_Axis direction at the same gas mass flow rate, the elliptical Y-jet nozzle with an aspect ratio of 2:1 showed greater asymmetry than the others.

A calibration jet system using separate blower is developed to calibrate a flow sensor effectively. Designed open circuit type mini calibration jet system, which has the dimension of $0.5m(W){\times}1.17m(H)$ is small compared with conventional calibration jet systems. The exit of nozzle has exchangeable contractions with a cross section area of $38.5cm^2$ , and a cross section area of $113.1cm^2$, respectively. The ranges of wind speed at exit of exchangeable nozzles are $7.5{\sim}42\;m/s$ and $1.8{\sim}16.5\;m/s$, respectively. The input power for the high pressure blower is 1.18kW. The turning vanes for corner was rolled flat plate parallel to the flow direction. The flow conditioning screen was located immediately downstream of the wide-angle diffuser. The honeycomb and two flow conditioning screens were located in the stagnation chamber. From the economical point of view and the simplicity of the calibration jet system set up and handling, it can be said that the developed calibration jet system is an effective calibration jet system. This system can also be used to calibrate the flow sensor with high resolution.

A numerical study was conducted to investigate the effects of flow parameters in a entrained flow combustor on the flow characteristics. The computational model was based on the gas phase Eulerian equations of mass, momentum and energy. The code was formulated with RNG k-$\varepsilon$ model for turbulent flow. The calculation parameters were the magnitude of primary and secondary jet velocity and the height difference between primary and secondary jet. As the secondary jet velocity increased, the upper recirculation zone of the primary jet was strengthened. It was found that as the primary jet velocity increased, there was a critical jet velocity at which the size of upper and lower recirculation zone was changed.

The transient incompressible flow behind the widely-spaced co-axial jet is numerically simulated using the random vortex method(RVM). This numerical approach is based on the Lagrangian approach for the vorticity formulation of the unsteady Navier-Stokes equations, utilizing vortex elements to account for the convection and diffusion processes. The effects of the mass flow rate of an annular air jet and a central fuel jet on the co-axial jet flow dynamics is investigated. To validate the present procedure, the numerical results are compared with the available experimental data the present procedure, the numerical results are compared with the available experimental data in terms of the centerline and off-centerline profiles of the mean axial velocity. Discrepancies between the RVM results and the measurements are discussed in detail.

The problem of the impingement of a sonic or a supersonic jet on a flat surface has not only wide applications but has also interesting and very complex flow phenomena. The main applications of this impinging jet include prediction of solid surface erosion, design of launcher systems, stage separation of multi-stage rocket system, V/STOL operations, thermal spray system, and manufacturing technologies of materials. Much have been learned about the supersonic impinging jet flow field but many fundamental questions have not been answered satisfactorily. The problem encompasses many facets of fluid dynamics which, in combination, present the compressibility effect and the viscous-inviscid interaction, coupled with flow separation and reattachment. What is more, there are many flow parameters that have on the impinging jet flow field, for example, Mach number, Reynolds number, pressure ratio, distance between the nozzle exit and flat plate, jet shock structure, nozzle diameter and etc. Thus the existing data on the supersonic impinging jet flow present considerable disagreement in which quantitative comparison between one result and another is often impossible.
