The jet pump is being used in many fields for several purposes because of its simple construction and easy operation. The characteristics of the geometrical variables, pressure gradient and velocity distribution of the jet pump are studied using the CFD technique. The flow calculations through a bended nozzle. a mixing chamber and a venturi are presented and phenomenological aspects are discussed. This study solve 3-D steady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations using the Iterative time marching scheme. The governing equations are differenced with 1st-order accurate backward difference scheme for the time derivatives and 3rd-order accurate QUICK scheme for the convective terms. The Mark-and-cell concept was applied efficiently to solve continuity equation, which is differenced 2nd-order accurate central differenced scheme. The 4th-order artificial damping is added to the continuity equation for numerical stability. A O-type of grid system is generated inside a nozzle and venturi of the jet pump. It has concluded that the results of present study properly agree with physical flow phenomena.

This paper demonstrates an explicit-implicit, finite element analysis for linear as well as nonlinear hygrothermal stress problems. Additional features, such as moisture diffusion equation, crack element and virtual crack extension(VCE) method for evaluating J-integral are implemented in this program. The Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics(LEFM) Theory is employed to estimate the crack driving force under the transient condition for an existing crack. Pores in materials are assumed to be saturated with moisture in the liquid form at the room temperature, which may vaporize as the temperature increases. The vaporization effects on the crack driving force are also studied. The ideal gas equation is employed to estimate the thermodynamic pressure due to vaporization at each time step after solving basic nodal values. A set of field equations governing the time dependent response of porous media are derived from balance laws based on the mixture theory. Darcy's law is assumed for the fluid flow through the porous media. Perzyna's viscoplastic model incorporating the Von-Mises yield criterion are implemented. The Green-Naghdi stress rate is used for the invariant of stress tensor under superposed rigid body motion. Isotropic elements are used for the spatial discretization and an iterative scheme based on the full Newton-Raphson method is used for solving the nonlinear governing equations.

The reactive flowfield of the transverse injecting combustor has been studied using Euler-Lagrange method in order to develop an efficient solution procedure for the understanding of liquid spray combustion in the transverse injecting combustor which has been widely used in ramjets and turbojet afterburners. The unsteady two-dimensional gas-phase equations have been represented in Eulerian coordinates and the liquid-phase equations have been formulated in Lagrangian coordinates. The gas-phase equations based on the conservation of mass, momentum, and energy have been supplemented by combustion. The vaporization model takes into account the transient effects associated with the droplet heating and the liquid-phase internal circulation. The droplet trajectories have been determined by the integration of the Lagrangian equation in the flow field obtained from the separate calculation without considering the iterative effect between liquid and gas phases. The reported droplet trajectories had been found to deviate from the initial conical path toward the flow direction in the very end of its lifetime when the droplet size had become small due to evaporation. The integration scheme has been based on the TEACH algorithm for gas-phase equation, the second order Runge-Kutta method for liquid-phase equations and the linear interpolation between the two coordinate systems. The calculation results has shown that the characteristics of the droplet penetration and recirculation have been strongly influenced by the interaction between gas and liquid phases in such a way that most of the vaporization process has been confined to the wake region of the injector, thereby improving the flame stabilization properties of the flowfield.
This paper proposes a method that can be used for the resistance estimation of a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation)-driven solenoid. By using estimated solenoid resistance, the PWM duty ratio was compensated to be proportional to the solenoid current. The proposed method was developed for use with EHB (Electro-Hydraulic Braking) systems, which are essential features of the regenerative braking system of many electric vehicles. Because the HU (Hydraulic Unit) of most EHB systems performs not only ABS/TCS/ESP (Electronic Stability Program) functions but also service braking function, the possible duration of continuous solenoid driving is so long that the generated heat can drastically change the level of solenoid resistance. The current model of the PWM-driven solenoid is further developed in this paper; from this a new resistance equation is derived. This resistance equation is solved by using an iterative method known as the FPT (fixed point theorem). Furthermore, by taking the average of the resistance estimates, it was possible to successfully eliminate the effect of measurement noise factors. Simulation results showed that the proposed method contained a sufficient pass-band in the frequency response. Experimental results also showed that adaptive solenoid driving which incorporates resistance estimations is able to maintain a linear relationship between the PWM duty ratio and the solenoid current in spite of a wide variety of ambient temperatures and continuous driving.

An IE-FFT algorithm is implemented and applied to the electromagnetic (EM) solution of perfect electric conducting (PEC) scattering problems. The solution of the method of moments (MoM), based on the magnetic field integral equation (MFIE), is obtained for PEC objects with closed surfaces. The IE-FFT algorithm uses a uniform Cartesian grid to apply a global fast Fourier transform (FFT), which leads to significantly reduce memory requirement and speed up CPU with an iterative solver. The IE-FFT algorithm utilizes two discretizations, one for the unknown induced surface current on the planar triangular patches of 3D arbitrary geometries and the other on a uniform Cartesian grid for interpolating the free-space Green's function. The uniform interpolation of the Green's functions allows for a global FFT for far-field interaction terms, and the near-field interaction terms should be adequately corrected. A 3D block-Toeplitz structure for the Lagrangian interpolation of the Green's function is proposed. The MFIE formulation with the IE-FFT algorithm, without the help of a preconditioner, is converged in certain iterations with a generalized minimal residual (GMRES) method. The complexity of the IE-FFT is found to be approximately $O(N^{1.5})$and $O(N^{1.5}logN)$ for memory requirements and CPU time, respectively.

Conformal mapping is useful to solve problems in physics, engineering and so on. This paper is to discuss the numerical conformal mapping from the unit disk onto Jordan region, which can be solved by Theodorsen equation. Wegmann's method has been known as the most efficient one for the Theodorsen equation. However, we found divergence through numerical experiments by the iterative method of Wegmann. The divergence occurs especially when some degree of difficulty is high. We analyze the cause of divergence and propose an improved method by applying a low frequency pass filter to Wegmann's method. By this proposed method we can get a stable convergence for all the problems which was unstable with the Wegmann's method.

The horizontal porous baffle and its effect as an anti-slosh device have been investigated intensively in a swaying and rolling rectangular tank. To accurately assess the level at which porous baffles reduce liquid sloshing, the Matched Eigenfunction Expansion Method (MEEM) has been utilized as an analytical tool. The velocity potentials in the horizontal baffle-covered fluid region are expressed by the sum of the homogeneous and particular solutions to avoid solving the complex dispersion equation. By applying an equivalent linearized quadratic loss model, the nonlinear algebraic equation is derived and solved by implementing the Newton-Raphson iterative scheme. To prove the validity of the present theoretical model, a series of experiments have been conducted with different centered horizontal porous baffles with varying porosities and submerged depths in a swaying and rolling rectangular tank. Reasonably good agreements are obtained regarding the analytical solutions and the experiment's findings. The influence of porosity, submerged depth, and length of a centered horizontal porous baffle on anti-slosh performance have been analyzed, especially at resonance modes. The developed predictive tool can potentially provide guidelines for optimal design of the horizontal porous baffle.
Impact event is the key factor influencing the operational state of the mechanical equipment. Additionally, nonlinear factors existing in the complex mechanical equipment which are currently attracting more and more attention. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel hybrid-separate identification strategy to solve the force identification problem of the nonlinear structure under impact excitation. The 'hybrid' means that the identification strategy contains both l1-norm (sparse) and l2-norm regularization methods. The 'separate' means that the nonlinear response part only generated by nonlinear force needs to be separated from measured response. First, the state-of-the-art two-step iterative shrinkage/thresholding (TwIST) algorithm and sparse representation with the cubic B-spline function are developed to solve established normalized sparse regularization model to identify the accurate impact force and accurate peak value of the nonlinear force. Then, the identified impact force is substituted into the nonlinear response separation equation to obtain the nonlinear response part. Finally, a reduced transfer equation is established and solved by the classical Tikhonove regularization method to obtain the wave profile (variation trend) of the nonlinear force. Numerical and experimental identification results demonstrate that the novel hybrid-separate strategy can accurately and efficiently obtain the nonlinear force and impact force for the nonlinear structure.
Considerable attention has been given to processing graph data in recent years. An efficient method for computing the node proximity is one of the most challenging problems for many applications such as recommendation systems and social networks. Regarding large-scale, mutable datasets and user queries, top-k query processing has gained significant interest. This paper presents a novel method to find top-k answers in a node proximity search based on the well-known measure, Personalized PageRank (PPR). First, we introduce a distribution state transition graph (DSTG) to depict iterative steps for solving the PPR equation. Second, we propose a weight distribution model of a DSTG to capture the states of intermediate PPR scores and their distribution. Using a DSTG, we can selectively follow and compare multiple random paths with different lengths to find the most promising nodes. Moreover, we prove that the results of our method are equivalent to the PPR results. Comparative performance studies using two real datasets clearly show that our method is practical and accurate.

For the linearized differential algebraic equation of the nonlinear constrained system, exact initial values of the acceleration are needed to solve itself. It may be very troublesome to perform the inverse operation for obtaining the incremental quantities since the mass matrix contains the zero element in the diagonal. This fact makes the mass matrix impossible to be positive definite. To overcome this singularity phenomenon the mass matrix needs to be modified to allow the feasible application of predictor and corrector in the iterative computation. In this paper the proposed numerical algorithm based on the modified mass matrix combines the conventional implicit algorithm, Newton-Raphson method and Newmark method. The numerical example presents reliabilities for the proposed algorithm via comparisons of the 4th order Runge-kutta method. The proposed algorithm seems to be satisfactory even though the acceleration, Lagrange multiplier, and energy show unstable behaviour. Correspondingly, it provides one important clue to another algorithm for the enhancement of the numerical results.
