In this article, a comparative study has been made to investigate the scattering behaviour of three layered structure model on torsional surface wave. For such model intermediate layer is taken as fiber reinforced composite, resting over a dry sandy Gibson substratum and underlying by different anelastic media. We consider two distinct mediums for topmost layer. In the first case, topmost layer has been taken as fluid saturated homogeneous porous layer, while in the second case the fluid saturated porous layer has been replaced by a transversely isotropic layer. Simple form expression for the secular equation of torsional surface wave has been worked out in both the cases by executing specific boundary conditions, which comprises Whittaker's function and its derivative, for imminent result that have been elaborated asymptotically. Some special cases have been constituted which are in excellent compliance with recorded literatures. For the sake of comparative study, numerical estimation and graphical illustration have been accomplished to identify the effects of the width ratio of the layers, Biot's gravity parameter, sandy parameter, porosity parameter and other heterogeneity parameters corresponding to the layers and half spaces, horizontal compressive and tensile initial stress on the phase velocity of torsional surface wave.
This paper proposes a new haptic device using a parallel mechanism with gimbal type actuators. This device has three legs actuated by 2-DOF gimbal mechanisms, which make the device simple and light by fixing all the actuators to the base. Three extra sensors are placed at passive joints to obtain a unique solution of the forward kinematics problem. The proposed haptic device is developed for an operator to use it on a desktop in due consideration of the size of an average Korean. The proposed haptic device has a small workspace for on operator to use it on a desktop and more sensitivity than a serial type haptic device. Therefore, the motors of the proposed haptic device are fixed at the base plate so that the proposed haptic device has a better dynamic bandwidth due to a low moving inertia. With this conceptual design, optimization of the design parameters is carried out. The objective function is defined by the fuzzy minimum of the global design indices, global force/moment isotropy index, global force/moment payload index, and workspace. Each global index is calculated by a SVD (singular value decomposition) of the force and moment parts of the jacobian matrix. Division of the jacobian matrix assures a consistency of the units in the matrix. Due to the nonlinearity of this objective function, Genetic algorithms are adopted for a global optimization.

This paper describes a new concept of finite element analysis, which is based on neural network based material models (NNCMs) without invoking any pre-chosen mathematical framework. NNCMs have several advantages over conventional constitutive models (CCMs) and once plugged in a finite element (FE) engine, can be used for FE analysis in a manner similar to CCMs. The paper demonstrates a FE framework in which NNCMs are incorporated and also proposes a strategy for data enhancement by invoking the assumption of isotropy of the material. It is shown through some illustrative examples that this provides a better training environment for a generalized NNCM in which stress and strain components are used as effects and cause. Form this study, it appears that there is a prima facia case for developing NNCMs for materials for which mathematical theories become too complex and a large number of material parameters and constants have to be identified or determined.

Pyrolysis and surface recession of charring composites are progressed primarily in the thickness direction. The unmixing-mixing scheme is applied to describe the in-plane and through-thickness behaviors of porous composites. The extended unmixing-mixing equations are based on transverse isotropy of unidirectionally fiber-reinforced composites. The strain components of gas pressure in pores, thermal expansion, and chemical shrinkage are included in the constitutive model. By analyzing micromechanical representative volume elements of porous composites, the validity of the derived equations are examined.

This paper predicts the material properties of spatially reinforced composites (SRC) and analyzes the thermo-elastic behavior of a kick motor nozzle manufactured from that material. To find the appropriate SRC structure for the nozzle throat that satisfies given design conditions, the equivalent material properties of the SRC are predicted using the superposition method for those of rod and matrix. Studied are the elastic behavior, temperature distribution, and thermo-elastic behavior of a kick motor nozzle composed of carbon/carbon SRC as a throat part. The elastic deformation of the nozzle composed of 3D carbon/carbon SRC shows asymmetry in a circumferential direction. However, 4D carbon/carbon SRC nozzle shows uniform deformation in the circumferential direction. Stress concentration in connecting parts of the kick motor nozzle is ultimately high due to the high temperature gradient in each connecting part. The thermo-elastic deformations of both the 3D and the 4D SRC nozzles are uniform in the circumferential direction due to the isotropy of CTE of each SRC. The deformation of the 3D SRC nozzle is a slightly smaller than that of the 4D SRC nozzle in the nozzle throat, which is favorably effective on rocket thrust. The circumferential stress is the most critical component of the kick motor nozzle. The 4D SRC nozzle having 1,1,1,1.7 diameters in each direction has the smallest circumferential stress among several SRC nozzles.

Theoretical mechanics analysis and finite element simulation were performed to investigate creep deformation behavior at the crack tip of transversely isotropic materials under small scale creep (SCC) conditions. Mechanical behavior of material was assumed as an elastic-$2^{nd}$ creep, which elastic modulus ( E ), Poisson's ratio ( ${\nu}$ ) and creep stress exponent ( n ) were isotropic and creep coefficient was only transversely isotropic. Based on the mechanics analysis for material behavior, a constitutive equation for transversely isotropic creep behavior was formulated and an equivalent creep coefficient was proposed under plain strain conditions. Creep deformation behavior at the crack tip was investigated through the finite element analysis. The results of the finite element analysis showed that creep deformation in transversely isotropic materials is dominant at the rear of the crack-tip. This result was more obvious when a load was applied to principal axis of anisotropy. Based on the results of the mechanics analysis and the finite element simulation, a corrected estimation scheme of the creep zone size was proposed in order to evaluate the creep deformation behavior at the crack tip of transversely isotropic creeping materials.

The main emphasis of this study was to utilize thixoextrusion process for improving extrudability of 7075, 7003 Al wrought alloys and AZ31 Mg wrought alloy. The results of thixbextrusion experiments about microstructures and extrusion pressures were compared with conventional hot extrusion results. The maximum extrusion pressure of thixoextrusion was greatly decreased compared with that of conventional hot extrusion. It was pointed out that the extrusion temperature dependence of the maximum extrusion pressure was large and the influence of extrusion temperature on the improvement of extrudability was remarkable in thixoextrusion. This will contribute to extrudability in terms of extrusion pressure, which in turn means that shorter process time is required and smaller extrusion machine can be applied for the same operation. The elongated grains to extrusion direction were generally observed during conventional hot extrusion, while the thixoextruded microstructures were isotropic.

In this paper is presented the solution method for three-dimensional problem of transversely isotropic body's elastoplastic deformation by the finite element method (FEM). The process of problem solution consists of: determining the effective parameters of a transversely isotropic medium; construction of the finite element mesh of the body configuration, including the determination of the local minimum value of the tape width of non-zero coefficients of equation systems by using of front method; constructing of the stiffness matrix coefficients and load vector node components of the equation for an individual finite element's state according to the theory of small elastoplastic deformations for a transversely isotropic medium; the formation of a resolving symmetric-tape system of equations by summing of all state equations coefficients summing of all finite elements; solution of the system of symmetric-tape equations systems by means of the square root method; calculation of the body's elastoplastic stress-strain state by performing the iterative process of the initial stress method. For each problem solution stage, effective computational algorithms have been developed that reduce computational operations number by modifying existing solution methods and taking into account the matrix coefficients structure. As an example it is given, the problem solution of fibrous composite straining in the form of a rectangle with a system of circular holes.
The wood pellet, which is one of the woody biomass energy, has very high economic efficiency and combustion efficiency during their combustion. The existing pellet burner have many problems such as low combustion efficiency, flame stabilization, ash problem and ignition time etc. We developed cyclonic wood pellet burner aim to 20,000kcal/hr boiler and measured temperature profiles and exhaust gases in order to investigate the flame stability and optimum combustion condition at any air flow conditions. As results, we confirmed the reappearance and the isotropy of the experimental results in the burner. At the first air flow inlet condition of excess air ratio ${\alpha}=0.02$, second air flow $490{\ell}/min$ had the best combustion condition when pellet supplied 30g. This result means that we need much air supply only for the swirling of second air flow. So we tested various second air flux at first air excess air ratio ${\alpha}=0.7$ condition. At this condition, we could find out that we don't need much second air and total air flux compared to the former condition. We will continuously test this work of air flow distribution, and swirl effect of first air flow, and ash elimination.
Isotropic synthetic graphite scrap and phenolic resin were mixed, and the mixed powder was formed at 300 MPa to produce a green body. New bulk graphite was produced by carbonizing the green body at $700^{\circ}C$, and the bulk graphite thus produced was impregnated with resin and re-carbonized at $700^{\circ}C$. The bulk density of the bulk graphite was $1.29g/cm^3$, and the porosity of the open pores was 29.8%. After one impregnation, the density increased to $1.44g/cm^3$ while the porosity decreased to 25.2%. Differences in the pore distribution before and after impregnation were easily confirmed by observing the microstructure. In addition, by using an X-ray diffractometer, the degrees-of-alignment (Da) were obtained for one side perpendicular to the direction of compression molding of the bulk graphite (the "top-face"), and one side parallel to the direction of compression molding (the "side-face"). The anisotropy ratio calculated from the Da-values obtained was 1.13, which indicates comparatively good isotropy.
