In this study, water treatment sludge carbonized with $400^{\circ}C$ was tested as an adsorbent for the removal of Pb and Cd in water. The carbonized sludge was characterized by thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF), and surface area analysis. Carbonized sludge exhibited much higher specific surface area and total pore volume than water treatment sludge itself. In batch-type adsorption process, carbonized sludge represented better adsorption performance for Pb than Cd, achieving 90~98% at the concentrations conducted in the experiments. Equilibrium data of adsorption were analyzed using the Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models. It was seen that both Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms have correlation coefficient $R^2$ value larger than 0.95. The results of studies indicated that carbonized water treatment sludge by heat treatment could be used as an efficient adsorbent for the removal of Pb and Cd from water.

The effects of various factors such as adsorption temperature, interstitial velocity, species and concentration of adsorbates(benzene and toluene) and aspect ratio(L/D) on adsorption characteristics were investigated in a fixed bed with activated carbon. The breakthrough time in a fixed bed was decreased with the increasing of adsorption temperature, interstitial velocity and concentration of adsorbates. The interstitial velocity, concentration of adsorbates and adsorption temperature had influenced considerably upon the MTZ(mass transfer zone) and LUB(length of unused bed) obtained through the breakthrough curves, while aspect ratio(L/D) had smaller effect than former factors. Especially, the concentration of adsorbates among factors have the largest effect on MTZ and LUB. From comparison with the model isotherms, such as the Langmuir, Freundlich and Langmuir-Freundlich, the experimental isotherm data of benzene and toluene agreed farily well to three adsorption isotherm models.
The effects of activated-carbon (AC) packing length on the Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) performance was investigated for the hydrogen separation from the multicomponent mixture gas. Linear driving force model was used to describe mass transfer between two phase and coupled Langmuir isotherm was used for each component as a nonlinear adsorption isotherm. When two adsorbents with a different adsorption capacity were packed consecutively in one bed, it is very important to determine the packing ratio of zeolite to activated carbon affecting the purity and recovery of the product. The activated carbon packing length in adsorption tower of 120 cm was determinated by the ending point of $CO_2$ contration. The optimum length of an activated carbon layer was 65 cm for production of high-purity hydrogen.
The layered double hydroxide with the insertion of chloride ions (LDH-Cl), which was synthesized by the co-precipitation method, was applied to investigate the fundamental aspects of the absorptive agent for phosphate removal from wastewater. The adsorption capacity was best described by the Langmuir-FreundIich isotherm, and the estimated isotherm parameters indicate that the LDH-CI capacity for the phosphate removal is much higher than that observed using a natural adsorbent material such iron oxide tailing. The kinetic experiment also showed that the LDH-Cl adsorption reaction rapidly at the adsorptive rate of 0.55 mg-P/g-LDH/min, implying that this adsorbent can be of use in the full-scale applications. The pH had a minimal effect on the LDH adsorption capacity in the range of 5 to 11, although the capacity dropped at the low pHs because of the change in LDH surface properties. Furthermore, other anions such as $Cl^-$ and $NO_3{^-}$ commonly found in the wastewater streams insignificantly affected the phosphate removal efficiencies, while $HCO_3{^-}$ ions had a negative effect on the LDH adsorption capacity due to its high selectivity. The phosphate removal experiment using the actual secondary effluent from a wastewater treatment plant showed the similar decrease in adsorption capacity, indicating that the bicarbonate ions in the wastewater were competing with phosphate for the adsorptive site in the surface of the LDH-Cl. Overall, the synthetic adsorbent material, LDH-Cl, can be a feasible alternative over other conventional chemical agents, since the LDH-Cl exhibits the high phosphate removal capacity with the low sensitivity to other environmental conditions.
The adsorption characteristics of coffee were mvestigated at $5, 15, 25, and 35^{\circ}C$ under various water activities such as 11, 32, 57, 75 and 90% and prediction models were developed by optimization program. The moisture adsorption isotherm curves were similar to the typical sigmoid type. The values of equilibrium moisture content and the monolayer moisture content were highest in the Freeze Dried, which was due to porous structure by the drying method. In the result of adjusting the isotherm models in this paper, Halsey model generally gave the best fit for isotherms of coffee. Prediction model for equilibrium moisture content was established with water activity and temperature. Adsorption prediction models were also developed with water activity, with water activity and time, and with water activity, time and temperature, respectively.

In this work, α-Fe2O3 nanocrystals are synthesized by co-precipitation method and used as adsorbent to remove Cr6+, Cd2+, and Pb2+ from wastewater at room temperature. The prepared sample is evaluated by XRD, BET surface area, and FESEM for structural and morphological characteristics. XRD patterns confirm the formation of a pure hematite structure of average particle size of ~ 40 nm, which is further supported by the FESEM images of the nanocrystals. The nanocrystals are found to have BET specific surface area of ~ 39.18 m2 g-1. Adsorption experiments are carried out for the different values of pH of the solutions, contact time, and initial concentration of metal ions. High efficiency Cr6+, Cd2+, and Pb2+ removal occur at pH 3, 7, and 5.5, respectively. Equilibrium study reveals that the heavy metal ion adsorption of the α-Fe2O3 nanocrystals followed Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The Cr6+, Cd2+, and Pb2+ adsorption equilibrium data are best fitted to the Langmuir model. The maximum adsorption capacities of α-Fe2O3 nanocrystals related to Cr6+, Cd2+, and Pb2+ are found to be 15.15, 11.63, and 20 mg g-1, respectively. These results clearly suggest that the synthesized α-Fe2O3 nanocrystals can be considered as potential nano-adsorbents for future environmental and health related applications.
It is of importance to separate Ni(II) and Co(II) from Mg(II) in solution which was leached from nickel laterite ore. In order to investigate the possibility of separating Ni(II) and Co(II) from Mg(II), adsorption behavior of the three metals from individual and mixed sulfate solutions was investigated by using Diphonix resin. The concentration of each metal in solution was fixed at 100 ppm and the pH of the sulfuric acid solution was changed from 5 to 7. At ambient temperature, the adsorption behavior of the three metal ions followed Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The loading capacity of Diphonix resin for the three metal ions was obtained from the Langmuir isotherm. Since adsorption behavior of the three metal ions from the mixed solution was similar to each other, it was found to be difficult to separate Ni(II) and Co(II) from Mg(II) by using Diphonix resin.

In this study, a electrostatic filter which could be applicable to road environment was developed and evaluated in adsorption capacity. The evaluation were performance for removal by particle size and adsorption amount by pressure using ASERAE 52.1 and 52.2. The range of size for removal test was $0.3{\mu}m{\sim}10.0{\mu}m$ which had 12 steps. The filter showed 91.3% removal efficiency from $2.5{\mu}m$ and under the size, average 53.5% proportional to decreasing size value. The weight removal was 96.7% from 22.6 mmaq, initial pressure to 35 mmaq, end pressure with $715.9g/m^2$, the adsorption amount. The shape of isotherm was expressed as Langmuir's one. After washing saturated filter with dust to end pressure, the initial pressure and adsorption amount of the filter showed a light drop with no removal efficiency decline.

Carbonaceous adsorbent (CA-WTP) was prepared by heat treatment at $400^{\circ}C$ for 2 h in N2 atmosphere using waste tire powder (WTP). WTP and CA-WTP were first characterized by thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), specific surface area analysis (BET) and FT-IR spectroscopy. Then, they were tested as adsorbents for removal of Cd in water. CA-WTP exhibited much higher specific surface area and total pore volume than WTP itself and showed higher adsorption capacity for Cd. Equilibrium data of adsorption were analyzed using Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models. It was seen that both Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms have correlation coefficient $R^2$ value larger than 0.95. The results of studies indicate that CA-WTP developed from WTP by heat treatment could be used as efficient adsorbent for the removal Cd from water.

One of the general properties of adsorption on multilayer is that the amount of adsorbing particles is not saturated. As another important property, in many cases, the amount of adsorbed particles is linearly proportional to the pressure of gases above the layers, at sufficiently low pressure, which is known to be Henry's experimental law. A purpose of this paper is to show qualitatively, in terms of a theory, that an adsorption on multilayer lbeys Henry's law at the region of low pressure. For this, we introduce a simple multilayer adsorption model and establish an adsorption isotherm for the given model, which is analyzed in the limit of low pressure.
