한강하구 퇴적물의 생지화학적 반응에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Biogeochemistry of the Sediments in the Han River Estuary)

  • 이 연구는 담수 퇴적물에서 주되게 일어나는 탈질(denitrification), 철 환원(iron reduction), 메탄 환원(methanogenesis) 반응이 퇴적물 유기물 분해에서 차지하는 중요도를 파악하였다. 탈질률, 철환원률, 메탄환원률 모두 식물이 존재하지 않는 Site A, 새섬매자기 군락이 서식하는 Site B, 갈대 군락이 서식하는 Site C에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보였고(P < 0.05), 퇴적물 깊이에 따라서는 메탄환원률만이 유의한 차이를 보였다. 유기물 함량은 Site A, Site B, Site C 순으로 식물의 존재와 밀도 증가에 따라 증가하였다. Site A가 가장 낮은 유기물 함량을 나타냄에도 불구하고 가장 높은 탈질률과 철환원률을 나타내었고, 메탄환원률의 경우 Site C에서 가장 큰 값을 나타내었다. 유기물의 혐기성 분해가 주로 탈질, 철 환원, 메탄 환원에 의해 일어난다고 가정한다면, 한강하구의 경우 탈질이 유기물을 분해하는 가장 주된 반응임을 알 수 있었다.

식이내 단백질과 철분수준이 흰쥐의 Fe, Cu 및 Zn 대사에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Different Levels of Dietary Protein and Iron on the Fe, Cu and Zn Metabolism in Rats)

  • This study was performed to investigate the effect of different levels of protein and iron in the diet upon Fe, Cu and Zn metabolism in rat during four weeks of growing period. Forty-five male weanling rats of Sprague-Dawley strain weighing $68.5{\pm}1.1g$ were divided into 9 groups and each group was given with one of the 9 different kinds of diets for four weeks. The three dietary protein levels used were 5, 20 and 40% and Fe levels 0, 35, and 350 ppms. The results obtained were summarized as following ; 1) Food intake and body weight gain in 20%(SP) and 40%(HP) dietary protein groups tended to be significantly higher than 5%(LP) protein groups. Protein efficiency ratio (PER) was higher in LP groups than in HP and SP groups. With dietary Fe levels, there were no significant differences among groups in food intake, body weight gain, and PER. 2) In LP groups, the Fe concentrations in liver, kidney, and hind limb muscle were higher than in SP and HP groups. Regarding with dietary protein levels, the liver Cu concentrations in LP groups were slightly higher, but the liver Zn concentrations were lower in LP groups. The Fe concentrations in liver and kidney tended to decrease with decrease in dietary Fe levels, but Cu and Zn concentrations showed no consistent tendency with dietary Fe levels. 3) The Fe, Cu and Zn concentrations in serum were not different from dietary treatments except that the serum Fe concentrations increased slightly in LP groups. 4) The Fe and Cu concentrations in urine tended to be higher in HP groups. Fecal Cu and Zn concentrations showed no significant differences in dietary protein or Fe levels, but the Fe concentrations tended to increase with increase in dietary Fe levels.

Erythropoietin의 투여가 신생백서 저산소허혈뇌손상에 미치는 영향 (The effect of erythropoietin in neonatal rat model of hypoxic-ischemic brain injury)

  • 목적 : 신생 백서의 저산소 허혈 뇌손상에 있어서의 erythropietin (Epo) 투여의 손상 예방 효과와 보호 기전에 철 대사가 관여하는지를 조사하고자 하였다. 방 법 : 신생 백서를 암수 구별 없이 생후 7일째에 편측 온목동맥 결찰 후 산소 농도 8%인 환경에 2시간 노출시켜 저산소 허혈을 유도하였으며 저산소 노출 직후 Epo 5,000 u/kg를 복강내 투여하였다. 이들은 저산소 허혈 유도 전 투여한 생리식염수, 철, deferoxamine 등에 따라 Epo군, Iron+Epo군, Def+Epo군, Iron+ Def+Epo군, 대조군으로 나누어 저산소 허혈 유도 후 7일에 뇌손상 정도를 비교하였다. 결 과 : Epo 투여시 뇌손상의 빈도와 정도는 대조군에 비해 감소하였다. 뇌손상의 빈도와 손상 점수로 뇌손상 정도를 비교한 결과 철 투여는 Epo의 뇌손상 예방 효과를 감소시키지 않았다. Deferoxamine 투여는 Epo 단독 투여군에 비해 뇌손상의 빈도와 정도가 경감하였으나 통계적 유의성은 없었다. 결 론 : Epo는 저산소 허혈 뇌손상에 있어 뇌손상 보호 효과를 보인다. 철 투여는 뇌손상을 악화시키지 않았으나 deferoxamine 동시 투여는 Epo 단독 투여에 비해 뇌손상의 빈도와 손상 점수가 감소하여 뇌손상 보호 효과에 철 대사가 관여할 가능성을 제시하였다.

50세 이상 남성의 식품 및 영양소 섭취실태와 골밀도와의 관계 (Associations Between Daily Food and Nutrient Intake and Bone Mineral Density in Men Aged 50 Years and Older)

  • Osteoporosis is a rising problem, as the older age population is increasing due to prolongation of life. Genetic and environmental factors play key roles in bone metabolism, and diet is also an important factor. We investigated the relationship among factors affecting bone mineral density (BMD), including daily food intake and nutrient intake in men aged >50 years. Seventy-eight men, who visited the health promotion center at one of the university medical centers, were divided into normal and osteopenia groups according to their BMD. The body weight of the normal group was significantly higher than that of the osteopenia group. The osteopenia group showed significantly higher carbohydrate intake and lower calcium and vegetable calcium intake compared to those in the normal group. Lumbar spine BMD was negatively correlated with energy, fat, vitamin B1, and sodium intake in the normal group. Additionally, femoral neck BMD was negatively correlated with total animal protein, energy, protein, fat, phosphorous, iron, animal iron, potassium, vitamin B1, B2, B6, and niacin intake. Lumbar spine BMD was positively correlated with fruit, calcium, vegetable calcium, animal calcium, and vitamin C intake in the osteopenia group. Femoral neck BMD was negatively correlated with meat, dairy product, total animal protein, plant protein, animal protein, vitamin A, and cholesterol intake. A stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that several dietary factors affected BMD, including energy, fat, vitamin B1, B2, B6, niacin, sodium, protein, iron, animal iron, phosphorous, potassium, and animal protein in the normal group and zinc, calcium, vegetable calcium, animal calcium, vitamin C, fruit, protein, animal protein, meat, dairy product, carbohydrates, cholesterol, vegetables, mushrooms, and seasonings in the osteopenia group. These results indicate that adequate nutrient intake plays an important role maintaining optimum bone health in middle aged men.

아스파르트산 킬레이트 철분의 철분 결핍쥐에서의 생물학적 유용성 (Bioavailability of Aspartic Acid Chelated Iron on Iron-deficient Rats)

  • 본 연구에서는 아스파르트산, 탄산칼슘 및 황산철을 반응시켜 아스파르트산 킬레이트 철분(aspartic acid chelated iron, Asp-Fe)을 제조하고 Asp-Fe의 철분결핍 쥐(iron-deficient rat, ID)에서의 생물학적 유용성을 확인하였다. 시험군은 철분이 함유된 식이를 섭취한 정상군(NC), 철분 결핍식이를 1개월간 투여하여 철분 결핍 상태를 유도한 쥐(ID)에 생리식염수를 공급한 결핍 대조군(ID+C), 철분 결핍 쥐에 햄철(heme-Fe) 투여군(ID+heme-Fe) 및 Asp-Fe 투여군(ID+Asp-Fe)으로 나누어 실시하였다. 그 결과 식이섭취량, 장기무게, 체중증가 정도에서 각 군에 따른 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 7일간 투여 후 혈액 중 철분의 함량을 측정한 결과 결핍쥐에 Asp-Fe 투여군(175.2 ${\mu}g$/dL)과 heme-Fe 투여군(140.8 ${\mu}g$/dL)은 결핍 대조군(96.1 ${\mu}g$/dL)보다 유의적인 수준으로 증가하였다. 총 철분 결합능(total iron binding capacity, TIBC)를 측정한 결과 Asp-Fe 투여군(735.4 ${\mu}g$/dL)은 결핍 대조군(841.9 ${\mu}g$/dL)보다 유의적 수준으로 정상화되었다. 헤마토크리트(HCT) 수치를 측정한 결과에서 Asp-Fe 및 heme-Fe 모두 결핍 대조군보다 증가하는 경향은 보였지만 유의적인 차이는 없었다. 흡수율에서는 heme-Fe의 경우 21.3%인 반면에 Asp-Fe의 경우 50.2%로 약 2.3배 높은 것으로 나타났으며, 혈청에서의 철분농도 및 transferrin saturation(TS)는 heme-Fe 투여군 및 결핍 대조군에 비하여 Asp-Fe 투여군이 유의하게 높은 수준을 유지하였다. 이상의 결과로 미루어 볼 때 아미노산 킬레이트 철분은 heme-Fe과 유사한 수준의 생체 이용율을 가지고 있으며, 철분 결핍을 회복시키는데 매우 효과적인 보충제로서 이용될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

인삼사포닌 분획이 Escherichia coli K-12의 성장과 Siderophore 생성에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Ginseng Saponin Fraction on Growth and Siderophore Formation in Eseherichia coli K-12)

  • The effects of saponin, one of major components (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer), on the growth of E. coli K-12 and the formation of siderphore was observed The following results were obtained. 1. When E. coli was grown on medium containing 1${\times}$10-5%-11${\times}$10-1% of the saponin, the rate of growth was stimulated at 10-1% of the saponin significantly compared to that of control. 2. When E. coli K-12 was grown on medium containing 1${\times}$10-1% of the saponin, the amount of siderphore was two times as much as the control. 3. The growth of E. coli was observed to be dependent on the concentration of siderophore when siderophore was added to medium. 4. The effect of saponin on the formation of siderophore in vitro was observed to reach maximum at 1${\times}$10-3% of the saponin. Such results suggest that the growth rate of E. coli K-12 could be enhanced by ginseng saponin fraction through stimulation of siderphore formation. We have described the fast growth of E. coli, K-12 and B. subtilis, rapid uptake of 14C-glucose, and high level of other metabolites such as lipids and proteins of E. coli, and B. subtilis in medium containing saponing fraction compared to that of microorganisms without saponin fraction.1∼3Such differences were claimed to be due to rapid uptake of 14C-glucose by widened periplasmic region throught unknown mechanism in the prescence of saponin fraction in medium3 and have raised a question whether there is another possible factor, siderophore4(Greek for iron bears), since microorganisms must secure a sufficient amount of iron for normal growth. These are known to be synthesized by the cells under iron-deficient condition and in most case, excreted into the medium5, where they can complex and solubilize any iron present there. It is generally believed that these complexes are then taken into the cells presumably by specific transport systems, thus providing iron for cell metabolism. Within the group of enteric bacteria, only three species (E. coli, S. typhimurium, and A. aerogense) have, so far, been studied in a ny detail. The main iron-binding compound produced by these species is enterochelin, and its role in iron transport is now well established. And biosynthesis of enterochelin from 2, 3- dihydroxybenzoate and serine in the prescence of magnesium ions and ATP was reported6. 2, 3-dihydroxybenzoate was also shown to involve isochorismate and 2, 3-dihydro-2, 3-dihydroxybenzoate as intermediate.7∼11 The present paper deals with the effect of ginseng saponin fraction on growth, the level of enterochelin formation in vivo and the conversion of 2, 3-dihydroxybenzoate and serine into entrochelin in vitro, and entrochelin obtained on the growth in relation to possible explanation of ginseng saponin fraction on the rapid growth of E. coli, K-12.

Effect of Transinoculation of Goat Rumen Liquor on Degradation and Metabolism of Mimosine in Sheep Fed with Leucaena leucocephala Leaves

  • The effect of transinoculation of goat rumen liquor into sheep rumen on mimosine toxicity was studied. One adult Kutchi male goat having higher mimosine degradation capacity than sheep was gradually adapted to Leucaena leucocephala (Leucaena) leaves by feeding increasing level of eucaena leaves supplementation for 1 month. Six Bharat Merino rams (12-18 months of age) were divided into two equal groups with (group I) or without (group II) infusion of 200 ml of goat rumen liquor per animal. The mimosine degradation in groups I and II were 3.04 and 2.31; 3.90 and 3.73 mg per day per 10 ml rumen liquor respectively after 1 and 2 weeks of leucaena feeding leaves. Total rumen bacterial population in RGCA medium and in a selective medium containing iron showed an increasing trend in both groups, while the bacterial population growing in the presence of cellulose showed a decreasing trend. Animal performance data did not show any adverse effect. Results revealed that transinoculation of rumen liquor from leucaena leaves adapted goat to sheep rumen did not help to improve mimosine degradation in the sheep. The sheep transinoculated with goat rumen liquor displayed no in vivo improvements in nutrient utilization vis-a-vis mimosine metabolism.

농촌 중학생의 식사양식, 영양지식 및 식품기호도 (Meal pattern, Nutrition Knowledge and Food preference of Rural middle school students)

  • This study was undertaken to investigate meal pattern, nutrition knowledge and food preference of 438 rural middle school students living in ChunNam area. As far as nutrition knowledge is concerned, most subjects did not answer correctly on the items of basic five food groups, animal fat and vegetable oil, empty source of soft drink, nutrient requirement and water's role in energy metabolism. However they responded well on the item of iron deficiency and dietary source of Ca. Male students were significantly better in the answering the items of dietary source of energy and nutrient requirement than females, while female students were significantly better on the items of water's role in energy metabolism related to obesity. Generally the respondents did neither consume oil often nor consider consumption of salty food. Furthermore, only 38.6% of subjects drink milk daily in spite of understanding dietary source of Ca, which suggested that they should incorporate nutrition knowledge into dietary behavior. The preferred foods for most subjects were fruit, kimbab and ice cream. Contrastingly the food that they did not prefer was fermented vegetable probably due to strong flavor.

한국인(韓國人)의 식염(食鹽) 및 질소대사(窒素代謝)에 관(關)하여 (Studies on Sodium Chloride and Nitrogen Metabolism of the Korean)

  • In order to study the daily metabolism of sodium chloride and of nitrogen, 24 hour urine samples were collected from 298 normal Korean males whose ages varied Iron 26 to 80 years old. The volume and the concentration of chloride and the total nitrogen were determine, along with the resting pulse and the blood pressure. The daily urine volume was maintained at approximately $1,000\;ml/m^2$ in all age groups while the chloride concentration was at approximately 230 mEq/l. Hence the daily urinary output of sodium chloride was estimated to be approximately 21 gm. On the other hand, the daily urinary output of total nitrogen amounted to approximately 10 gm. Theses findings are similar to those obtained earlier by Yi et al. (1966) in Korean subjects younger than 25 fears old, indicating that average Koreans live on low protein and high salt diets throughout their life. Despite a known correlation between the incidence of hypertension and the high salt intake, none of the these subjects employed in the present investigation showed any sign of hypertension.
