  • The primary function of the Internet routers is to forward incoming packets toward their final destinations. IP address lookup is one of the most important functions in evaluating router performance since IP address lookup should be performed in wire-speed for the hundred-millions of incoming packets per second. With CIDR, the IP prefixes of routing table have arbitrary lengths, and hence address lookup by exact match is no longer valid. As a result, when packets arrive, routers compare the destination IP addresses of input packets with all prefixes in its routing table and determine the most specific entry among matching entries, and this is called the longest prefix matching. In this paper, based on parallel multiple hashing and prefix grouping, we have proposed a hardware architecture which performs an address lookup with a single memory access.

  • Interferon-${\gamma}$-inducible protein 10 (IP-10), also known as chemokine C-X-C motif ligand (CXCL) 10, is closely associated with antiviral immunity and the progression of chronic hepatitis B (CHB). However, the value of baseline serological and histological IP-10 expression levels in predicting the efficacy of the antiviral response to nucleoside/nucleotide analogues (NAs) is still unknown. In our research, intrahepatic and peripheral IP-10 expression levels were systemically examined before and after treatment with entecavir (ETV). Baseline serological and histological IP-10 expression levels were significantly increased in patients with CHB, particularly in patients with higher degrees of liver inflammation and liver fibrosis. Moreover, higher baseline intrahepatic IP-10 levels indicated better prognoses in patients with CHB after entecavir therapy. The baseline IP-10 level was also positively associated with several clinical parameters, including baseline levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA, and hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), and with the decrease in HBsAg levels after treatment. In addition, monocyte-derived IP-10 was expressed at higher levels in patients with CHB than in patients with liver cirrhosis (LC) and healthy controls (HC). According to the results of our in vitro experiments, IP-10 directly promoted hepatocyte apoptosis. Based on these findings, baseline serological and histological IP-10 levels might predict CHB severity and the decrease in HBsAg levels after entecavir therapy.

  • VoIP service provides various functions that PSTN phone service hasn't been able to provide. Since it also has superiority in service charge, the number of user is increasing these days. When we think of the other side in cost aspect, the spam caller can also send his/her commercial message over phone line using more economic way. This paper presents the characteristics that should be considered to detect the spam call using greylisting method. We have explored static and dynamic characteristics in VoIP calls, and analyzed the relation among them. Especially, we have surveyed the authentication and charging method of Korean VoIP service provider. We have analyzed each charging method using our spam call simulation result, and derived the charging method that can be favored by spam caller. The contribution of the work is in analysis result of static aspect for SPIT Level calculation in greylisting method.

  • Increased access to broadband networks has led to a fast-growing demand for voice and video over IP(VVoIP) applications such as Internet telephony(VoIP), videoconferencing, and IP television(IPTV). For pro-active troubleshooting of VVoIP performance bottlenecks that manifest to end-users as performance impairments such as video frame freezing and voice dropouts, network operators cannot rely on actual end-users to report their subjective quality of experience(QoE). Hence, automated and objective techniques that provide real-time or online VVoIP QoE estimates are vital. Objective techniques developed to-date estimate VVoIP QoE by performing frame-to-frame peak-signal-to-noise ratio(PSNR) comparisons of the original video sequence and the reconstructed video sequence obtained from the sender-side and receiver-side, respectively. Since processing such video sequences is time consuming and computationally intensive, existing objective techniques cannot provide online VVoIP QoE. In this paper, we present a novel framework that can provide online estimates of VVoIP QoE on network paths without end-user involvement and without requiring any video sequences. The framework features the "GAP-model", which is an offline model of QoE expressed as a function of measurable network factors such as bandwidth, delay, jitter, and loss. Using the GAP-model, our online framework can produce VVoIP QoE estimates in terms of "Good", "Acceptable", or "Poor"(GAP) grades of perceptual quality solely from the online measured network conditions.

  • A mobile device accesses large-sized data in object-based IP storage as an object unit over IP network. It relies heavily on a WLAN device, which has been known as one of the major power consumers. This paper designs and implements low-power object-based IP storage for mobile devices using an efficient WLAN power control. The proposed WLAN power control exploits prefetch buffer to maximize the idleness for incoming network traffic and controls available WLAN power modes to minimize the power consumption. Our experimental results reveal that the proposed WLAN control can save the total power consumption in a PXA270-based mobile device about 9% while playing the multimedia contents through an object-based IP storage device

  • Generally, in the Mobile IP technologies, the use of RSVP(Resource ReSerVation Protocol) is recommended in order to provide a mobile node real-time service. However, the handoff of a mobile node increases the registration delay, RSVP reservation delay and signalling overhead in the Mobile IP and RSVP interworking. Specially, the resource reservation on the path between a mobile node and a correspondent node is the duplicated reservation and then causes unnecessary creation of the signalling overhead and waste of the resource, since the majority of the path before handoff and after handoff is same. If the radius of a cell providing a wireless interface to a mobile node is small, the number of handoff will increase and also signalling overhead and duplicated resource reservation will increase. In this paper, we proposed the integration model of Cellular IP and RSVP with RSVP proxy scheme. Here, Cellular IP protocol minimizes registration delay, transfer delay, and loss by handoff in micro cell network, the RS VP proxy that minimizes the duplication of resource reservation prevents the path for RSVP session from change using the address for reservation of a mobile node. Proposed scheme was evaluated in comparison with the existing Mobile IP and RSVP interworking scheme using the probability of resource reservation fail to the radius of a cell and the handoff rate.

  • In this paper, we introduce the design and implementation of satellite IP modem. The designed satellite IP modem shows the performance of 0.2% overhead, BER=10-5 when Eb/No=6dB, frequency offset of 8KHz, data rate up to 1536Kbps, $F_{if}=140MHz$. The designed system is verified through software simulation and then implemented with MPC86x communication processor, TMS320C6416 DSP, and Altera FPGA. Since each hardware unit is implemented in daughter board for modularity, we can reduce the development time and easily improve the performance with using better processor. Linux is used for embedded OS because it shows better performance in IP manipulation multitask processing, and hardware control through device driver. The implemented system is tested and verified with channel simulator. Since the proposed IP modem shows small size and light weight, that can be used anywhere with easy if you need IP environment.

  • Frame erasure is one of the most difficult problems in voice over IP (VoIP) networks and is a major source of speech quality degradation. In this paper, a frame erasure concealment algorithm based on nonlinear regression analysis is presented to minimize speech quality deterioration in code-excited linear prediction (CELP) based coders. We applied the proposed scheme to the ITU-T G.729 standard and obtained improved perceptual evaluation of speech quality (PESQ) scores compared to the conventional methods.

  • Along the advancement of mobile networks, fixed telephone networks are gradually advancing from legacy networks based on copper and circuit-switches to optical cables and packet-switched IP networks. Incumbent fixed-line telephone operators are facilitating the introduction of IP networks and are gradually converting to IP-based facilities according to the investment plans for each operator. As the PSTN's IP conversion exceeds a certain level and VoIP; (an alternative service); is activated, some countries; such as Europe; are considering terminating the PSTN service, centering on operators. In this paper, trends in the procedure, timing, and major issues related to the termination of an overseas PSTN are examined. The domestic status is also examined.
