  • Corrosion of steel reinforcement is the most significant factor of deterioration in reinforced concrete structures. It breaks down the passive film and allows the steel to be corroded severely at a high rate. The main object of this study is to determine the critical chloride ion concentrations in the pore solutions and chloride binding effect of cement pastes. It is found that binding chloride ion ratio of cement is between 0.04% and 0.3% and Cl/OH in pore solution under 0.3.

  • Kinetic energy release in the fragmentation of tert-butylbenzene molecular ion was investigated using mass-analyzed ion kinetic energy spectrometry. Method to estimate kinetic energy release distribution (KERD) from experimental peak shape has been explained. Experimental KERD was in good agreement with the calculated result using phase space theory. Effect of dynamical constraint was found to be important.

  • In this paper, the effect of the secondary electron emission coefficient of Xe ion on glow discharge was examined by ID numerical simulation. The simulation was performed for two distinct structures, short and long gaps. The features of the glow discharges in the both structures, firing and sustain voltages, luminance, and efficiency, were analyzed at various secondary electron emission coefficient of Xe ion.

  • Dynamics of contact ion-pair between 1, 2, 4, 5-tetracyanobenzene anion and cation of biphenyl derivatives was investigated on the picosecond time scale. Solvent effect on the electron transfer was observed and electron transfer rates were examined using Marcus equation which contains distance dependence of the electron transfer rate in the frequency factor, along with the consideration of molecular shape. From the discussion based on disk model for molecular shape, contribution of interring torsional motion of biphenyl to the inner-sphere reorganization energy is strongly suggested, which leads to the physical explanation for the observed solvent effect on the rate of electron transfer.

  • The optogalvanic effect is proposed and demonstrated as a technique for Penning ionization in a discharge of mixtures of metal vapors and rare gases. The gadolinium and argon mixture is used as a prototype. The lowest metastable of argon, 3P$_2$ (ls$\_$5/ in Paschen notation) at 93144 cm$\^$-1/, is within kT from the excited states of Gd ion. Thus Penning ionization occurs to an excited states of the ion. This process strongly alters the optogalvanic signal and has its own signatures.

  • To prevent weakly flocculating characters of bottom brewing yeast during first fermentation, various technical investigations were carried out using strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. It appeared that the propagation at $10^{\circ}C$ promoted the molecular structure and biochemical composition of cell wall in favor of flocculation. The yeast grown at $20^{\circ}C$ by addition of zinc ion also had a stimulating effect on flocculation behavior during first fermentation cycle. The zinc ion did not influence directly on the changes of cell wall in favor of stronger flocculence. The increased fermentation activity of yeast due to addition zinc ion was rather responsible for the intensified flocculation capacity. It was concluded that the weakly flocculating characters of bottom brewing yeast during first fermentation can be solved by using yeast propagated at $10^{\circ}C$ or by means of yeast by addition of zinc ion during propagation.

  • The multiconfiguration second-order perturbation theory (CASPT2) and complete active space self-consistent field (CASSCF) methods were employed to calculate the geometries and energy levels for the low-lying electronic states of 1,3,5-$C_6H_3Cl{_3}^+$ ion. The CASPT2 values for the 1,3,5-$C_6H_3Cl{_3}^+$ ion were in reasonable agreement with the available experimental values. The current calculations augmented previous theoretical investigations on the ground state and assigned the low-lying excited electronic states of the 1,3,5-$C_6H_3Cl{_3}^+$ ion. The Jahn-Teller distortion in the excited electronic state for the 1,3,5-$C_6H_3Cl{_3}^+$ ion were reported for the first time.

  • The behavior of optical properties of ion exchanged glasses was investigated inthis study. The used glasses were soda-lime-silica glasses that were produced by float process. The coloring effect by Ag colloids is measrued by spectral transmittance, color coordinates, dominant wavelength and excitation purity resulting from silver ions exchange of glasses immersed into the mixed molten salt with AgNO3. Ion exchange coloring of glasses made it possible to obtain glasses with a range from yellow to brown, and transmittance was decreased with increasing the amount of Ag colloids which reduced from Ag+ions. Also, obtain from yellow to reddish brown with increasing purity by reheating treatment in air for ion exchanged glasses. The size of Ag colloids are 0.02~0.1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ with ion exchange conditions.
